Amazing food! Always great service and eating outside during the coronavirus era is a welcome alternative to not going out at all

My family visited Doc's for dinner during our visit to Corpus Christi in late May. We had a short wait on a Sunday evening but the wait wasn't as bad as at other nearby restaurants. My son and I ordered the crab stuffed flounder. Both dishes were cooked well with flaky fish and flavorful crab stuffing. The amount of butter was a little excessive. My wife had a chicken and shrimp dish which she enjoyed. The seafood salad appetizer was excellent. The margaritas were good but seemed a little weak. The view of the water outside the restaurant was pleasant and the service was efficient. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Awesome place! It reminded me of a much more laid back version of The Coast Guard House in Narragansett, RI but with views and food that are just as good. First of all, the hostess was a very beautiful and charismatic young lady who had a killer smile. Always a plus when you make the customer feel welcome and special. Second, wicked fast service. We were in and out in 45 minutes with a 3 course meal. I like to take my time eating, but I am not going to complain about someone bringing my food TOO quickly. Third, good food. I am not a huge seafood fan but their chowder and grilled tuna is awesome. I don't recommend paying $3 for Doc's Island Sauce, because it isn't anything special: just clam chowder again. I will definitely eat here again next time I am in CC, even though that will probably be never. read more

This place is amazing! The staff is incredible and the food is the best around. Try the oysters rockafellar or the crab cake burger. But don't leave without a couple drinks ESPECIALLY noteworthy is the BLOODY MARY. It's piled with delicious little treats like bacon, shrimp and pickled okra! So after over an hour and a half wait we got seated. Was looking forward to having some good seafood before heading back home the next morning. Ordered food. Once food was brought to our table server never came over to check to see how it was till almost wife and son were done with their food. Not to mention the server who brought out the food never brought the sauce we asked for. Well plating is everything. For my sons stuffed flounder with rice and veg his flounder was over the rice. For mine it was over the green beans. Tried moving it but it was pointless as it was falling apart. Thanks for reminding us why we don't come to Corpus. Not worth the wait. The servers have gotten to where people will come cause it's got a great view. Ehh. Definitely won't be back. And because the server waited so long to come check didn't want to have the wife and son wait while they made another plate. Go to Snoopy's pier next door. Having just come back from the dinner from Hell, I feel I should chime in. Having been a server, I usually tip a lot. But waiting 15 minutes for a waiter to stop by and greet us should have been a tip off. 20 minutes later, we got our drinks. Three hours for dinner is okay some places but not at Doc's. We were advised we could sit downstairs only difference would be we'd get our food in styrofoam containers but we'd get served faster. There were 10 of us and we thought that would be a great idea to avoid the 50 min. wait that we were told we'd have otherwise. So we sat, then we waited 50 min. anyway, meanwhile about 5 other tables (2-4 people each) came, ate and left. Our waitress came out and advised us they were bagging our order. We waited 20 MORE min. finally received our food, and it was barely warm. The blackened tuna looked like a pork chop, my stuffed flounder was mediocre at best not even sure it was real crab because it was so shredded. The only reason we stayed is because we were exhausted and starving. The clam chowder soup had hard chunks. My green beans were chewy. The oysters were the only good item we received. Some of the fries were cold, the rest were barely warm. We spoke to the manager and he removed some items, but even with those items removed the food was not nearly worth the $300 price we paid. What a wonderful experience, we dined here last weekend and really enjoyed the views. Our server Lindsay was wonderful. We had the Crab Guacamole, Blakened Tuna Tacos, and the Bacon wrapped shrimp. First of all let me say this, I am from a desert area so seafood is not something I am fond of in any way. Having said that Doc's was the first restaurant we tried when my partner and I started to visit Corpus Christi. We both really enjoyed the food and the environment as well as our waitress. We came back a few months later and returned to Doc's, having the same experience that time. We fell in love with it on our first visit and have had no experience to disavow that feeling. We had the clam chowder which we simply loved, and the crab guacamole which we both devoured quite quickly. I typically abhor guacamole, have never been able to eat it at all actually, but theirs is amazingly good. I had the chicken fried steak that first time and found it quite good, with really creamy gravy, my partner had the mahi mahi and loved it, saying it was the best he had ever had. He lived in Key West for several years so that surprised me. On our second visit we both tried something different, I don't remember what he tried but I tried the Parmesan crusted flounder which found to be quite good. I tried flounder again at home and couldn't eat it. Something about the way they cooked it, or it being fresh, just really made the meal. Overall we love Doc's, we are moving to Corpus and will always love enjoying a meal there, watching the water in the bay and enjoying our time in a great atmosphere. read more

I used to love this place. Definite changes have occurred. In what appears to be an attempt to streamline the menu, Doc's has lost the quality they once had. Their fried seafood is still pretty good, but their grilled options lack the quality to offset their prices, which is disappointing. Also, you'd think a restaurant with the appeal of bayside views would have consistently available outside seating! You can do better, Doc's. Also, bring back the stuffed chicken. It was delicious & one of your staples. Service is great though, need to shout out to the staff...not your fault the owners are trying to fix something that didn't appear to be broken. read more

Overpriced shit hole. Service took forever. Waiter kept apologizing for everything taking so long. Could have been worth it if the food was at least ok. Ribeye steak i ordered was over cooked and wasn't a ribeye. it was a tiny piece of rubber. Cost was $35 for the worst steak i ever had. If you're looking for a great casual dinner, with a super view and an all around fun evening, I recommend Doc's. The casual atmosphere is always fun and the food is excellent. I especially like they're Grilled Tuna, I think it's the best in town. Personally I like it rare, and it's great every time I order it. I've also become a fan of Doc's Free Fitness Boot Camp run each Saturday morning rain or shine at 8:30 AM, on their spacious lower deck. It's run by fitness expert Jeff Paluseo, owner of Sports Fitness Solutions. Jeff has years of fitness experience, and has experience as the the head strength and conditioning coach at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, as well as the head strength and conditioning coach with the Hooks. He played hockey for the Ice Rays, Corpus Christi's local hockey team, after graduating college; and today is also their head strength and conditioning coach. He has a ton of knowledge when it comes to fitness. The best part of the workout is it's free, fun and you meet some great people of all ages and abilities who participate. I recommend it. read more

The specials sounded amazing. On the Texas gulf coast, we rarely get grouper. I ordered the grouper with chimichurri sauce. I don't know what the sauce was, but it wasn't chimichurri at all. It detracted from the fish. The grouper was tasty. The other special was a Parmesan crusted flounder. I wish I could have gotten the grouper Parmesan crusted. The atmosphere is nice. The outside looked deceiving, this place was great! I had the burger which was really well cooked and the fries were to die for! We also had the hush puppies the dip that came with them was amazing! From what we could tell everything was made in house. The only reason I didnt give them 5 stars was because of the prices. I sure wish Yelp let you give half stars :-). This place would be a definite 3 1/2 stars. I went to Corpus for the first time this weekend, for a short trip. My friend has visited there a lot - we wanted seafood so she said we needed to either go to Doc's or the Oyster House. I picked Doc's. Overall the experience was good, and I'd definitely go back. The view is great, but it was hot as heck and this place is NOT air-conditioned, so be warned! They have a lot of fans, but not all were going. We asked a bus boy to turn on one near us, and he was nice enough to go track down a surge protector/extension cord so he could turn it on, and aimed it right at us, which made it much more pleasant! The single best thing about the meal was the fresh bread - it was absolutely out of this world! And according to my friend (who's been there before), that is typical. It was a hot crusty loaf of French bread that tasted like it had just been pulled out of the oven. Served with fresh butter. YUMMY! I had the catch of the day, which was blackened drum with a spicy cream sauce. The fish was delicious, cooked perfectly. The sauce was too heavy for my tastes. And I wish I had known that the sauce was "extra" and not included with the special - when the bill came it cost me an extra $2.99 which was disappointing as I would have preferred the fish without it. My friend had the blackened flounder, and it was a huge portion of fish, which she said was good. The only sides we were told about were new potatoes or rice. We both had the new potatoes - my friend liked hers but they were way too oily for my tastes (literally swimming in it!). Someone at another table had what looked like a beautiful side of sauteed veggies - maybe if we had asked? We shared a slice of key lime pie for dessert. The graham cracker crust left a lot to be desired, but the actual pie itself was nice and tart and not overly sweet, which was a nice finish to the meal. Next time (if there is one) I'll ask about veggies for a side, and get "plain" fish, and maybe just plan on taking most of it to go, so I can fill up on the yummy fresh bread and butter!!!! read more

We took a group of twenty or so dirty and sweaty hikers here on an afternoon during Labor Day Weekend 2012. I had the clam chowder in a bread bowl. It turned out to be a huge bowl. The soup was tasty. I couldn't discern much difference between the clam chowder here and that at the famous Pike Place Chowder in Seattle. The restaurant had lovely views of the highway, shore, and ocean. The atmosphere was cheerful and lively. There were lots of other people eating inside and the parking lot was pretty packed. There is also a separate bar inside near the entrance. We walked up a flight of stairs to the entrance. The waiters we had were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu offerings. This was a great surprise! Sadly late in life I developed shellfish allergies which is beyond cruel. My husband loves seafood so we chose Doc's on a whim. I told the waitress (great waitress) about my allergies and asked her if the yellow fin tuna tacos would be safe? Yes she said without hesitation. We got our food and omg my tacos were fabulous and the rice and sautéed green beans were equally as good almost. My husband's seafood platter was excellent also. I never relax till about 45 minutes after I eat at a seafood restaurant because I have had bad reactions in the past. Not from Doc's all great. So if you are unfortunately allergic to shellfish Doc's is a great place to go for great safe delicious food. read more

My family and I are staying in Port Aransas this week and the wait anywhere on the island was at least 45 minutes. We made it to Doc's and were seated before we even got a notification that our table was ready in Port A. Jus not impressed. Prices were very expensive Nd the food was really not that super. I had coconut shrimp and they used what appeared to be canned pineapple. Nothing we had was super amazing. Great view but that's about it. In addition, there is only a lunch menu in the winter. So prepare to pay a ton for lunch. Not worth it read more

We managed to get seats outside and there is no better place to be on a sunny day - that's assuming you sit with your back to the bridge which does ruin the view otherwise. We came at a weird time between lunch and dinner so I will cut them some slack but they still lose a star for service and another for food. Our waitress had just come on shift and it showed, it took a while for her to realize we were in her section so it took ages to order drinks. She didn't know what the specials were and then took way too long getting our drinks and just generally wasn't very attentive throughout although nice enough when we did get hold of her. Being landlocked in Austin I was looking forward to some fresh seafood but I was really disappointed in the crab cakes which tasted old and dry. I had to smother them in tartar sauce to lubricate them enough to get down my throat! We also had the fish sandwich at our table which again just didn't taste freshly caught as it should have. The other members of our group had some of the daily specials which did look and taste better - the scallops with shrimp over rice and the black rock fish. All in all I thought the menu was a bit uninspiring and very over priced, I would literally only come back here for the venue and views as the food and service were lacking read more

Was a little timid about taking the entire clan to this place based upon the mixed reviews but we I definitely was not disapointed. We arrived at 6:15 and were immediately seated at a great table overlooking the bay. Enyoyed the fresh gulf dhrimp appetizer and the warm bread and butter as well as our beers and the Mango sunset drinks. All four adults went with the crab stuffed flounder which was to die for. Our daughter had the chicken sandwich and our son had the kids burger. All were delicious and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, the size of the meal left nobody with room for dessert so we didnt get a chance to partake in some great sounding treats. All agreed that thus was our best meal while here in C.C. Don't waste your time or money visiting this restaurant. Once we finally were seated our table and seats still had food from the previous patrons. "Why clean what is going to get dirty?" I'm pretty sure is their moto there. Food and napkins can be seen about on the floor. The food was completely overpriced and lacked flavor. Just okay ... We had to wait an hour at 9pm. I guess that's because seafood selections in this area are limited. (we stopped at another place before this and was also an hour wait). The only reason we chose to stay here was because we didn't feel like driving all over the area looking for places to eat. The beer selection, at least for me, was a little thin. My girlfriend liked her Mango Margarita. For a beer and a Margarita, it was $12.50. Dinner was okay. I had the yellowfin tuna, but it was a bit over spiced, even for blackened Cajun style - too much salt. My girlfriend had the steak, with potatoes, and asparagus. She also felt hers was too salty as well. Our waitress was good. Manager was friendly, greeting customers. Overall, with plans to return to Corpus Christi area, we wouldn't plan to come back here. Too expensive for the wait and the quality. Make no mistake, for this area, the location can't be beat. Totally not worth going to. We had one of the worst waiters I've ever had--my water cup has a crack in it. We noticed after my purse got all wet. Finally got up to chase down our waiter. He grabbed our napkins to sort of clean it up and promised to bring another water...which he did thirty minutes later after I finished my food. Brought peel and eat shrimp with no extra plate, and since he used all of our napkins to clean up some of the water (he left the rest), there was nothing to do with the shells. He tried a sneaky upsell on the crab cakes, asking if we wanted rice or vegetables. My husband called him out on it, asking -- doesn't it come with fries? He said yes but people sometimes want the rice (for an extra $1.50, which he of course didn't mention). I ordered fish tacos. He brought me the upgraded tuna tacos, then stuck that on the bill. Our drinks were $9, which is stupidly expensive for a regular drink. The bathrooms needed attention. The food tasted acceptable, and the crab cakes were good.
