Honestly, I'm not much of a barbecue fan. But I have to say that I am in love with this place! The barbecue nachos are certainly my favorite. But everything I've had from there has been so good. I went to Docs for lunch. The place has a nice decor and smelled like a smokehouse should smell... Ordered the Docs signature sandwich with seasoned fries and a sweet tea. 10 something was the total. Even though the tea is located right behind the register I had to wait 5 minutes for it to be brought out. The signature sandwich consisted of 3 small slices of moist yet flavorless brisket. Some maybe boiled onions? Not sure they were grilled..and a piece of cheese. The bread was the best part of the sandwich. The seasoned fries were regular fries seasoned with....... Salt. I guess my expectations were expecting some type of creative smokehouse seasoning. They did a good job with tea refills.... I hope this place improves and succeeds, but this is not what I expect for a BBQ joint.. read more

My pulled pork sandwich was mediocre. I expected much better from a restaurant that specializes in barbeque. The sauce was delicious (without the sauce I would have given Doc's two stars). Some of the pork was good, but other pieces were mushy with the consistency of chewed up meat. The macaroni and cheese was inedible. It was gluey and did not taste of cheese. read more

The people working here are very nice, but the service was slow. The beauty of BBQ is that everything is bascially already cooked. We waited 20 minutes for our lunch and they were not crowded. We had the pulled pork and brisket sandwhiches. The meat was tender, but did not have a lot of flavor. The sides were good and prices were reasonable. Having someone come around and fill your drinks after you have paid was a bit akward because then you don't know if you should tip them or not. I think a "help yourself" soda fountain for refills would be better. read more

We are visiting from Seattle and decided to try Doc's on a whim. Walking up to it I wasn't expecting much, as it's a small place in a strip mall. However when we walked in, the place was packed and I was overwhelmed by the delicious smell of smoked meat. Our food came out and we were not disappointed. Excellent! Just excellent. The service was some of the best service I have ever had at a restaurant....and the location was extremely busy. The chicken nachos and wings were really good. Place is great. Never really a fan of brisket because it is so easy to mess up, but doc's has some off the best brisket I've ever eaten. I travel s lot for work and always find myself in bbq restaurants, especially in the south east. read more

Affordable and tasty BBQ for the Eastern St Louis area. Atmosphere is typical for fast casual: a little noisy, OK seating comfort. Prices are reasonable and service is very speedy. Delicious! Came in Saturday for lunch. The food was awesome. I am really picky when it comes to BBQ. I hate dried, overcooked meat. The meat here was juicy and flavorful, not dried out at all. I tried the pulled pork and a bite of my sister's chicken sandwich; both were awesome. Tried all three sauces, all were good, but the Memphis Red was my favorite. Both the sweet potato fries and the mac n cheese were good. The service was good. My only complaint is no beer, which is kind of weird in a college town. read more

Woohoo is right. I've told my wife time and time again, people will travel for good BBQ and travel we did. Doc's is about a 3 hour drive for us and in my opinion totally worth it. Doc definitely pays attention to details and that shows through in his meals. Most places that I have visited usually hit on one thing or another. This place nailed the prism of BBQ. From meat to sides to dessert. Plus it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. ($23 for an entree, drinks for two and 1/2 order of nachos). If ordering the nachos, order the 1/2 unless you plan on sharing. The brisket was right on the money for taste and tenderness. The sausage had probably the best flavor and snap that I have ever had. This is a big compliment, I guarantee I could not pull off a better sausage at home. The sides (corn casserole and cole slaw) are what you would expect to have served at a true BBQ restaurant. I only wish there was a vinegar based slaw on the menu. At the end of my meal, there wasn't a crumb left in my pan, nor was there a drop of sauce used. This food was worth the travel and will definitely be on my list to visit when we swing through again. read more

I have been to Doc's many times after my last review. After many visits and many different meals from the menu I can honestly say. Great food no matter what you order. This last time I had the pork steak again. Love that you have a choice of 4 different sauces to choose from. The sides are all good. The mac and cheese is the best I have ever tasted, corn casserole and baked beans are yummy. So many choices, I do recommend the nacho's and the peanut butter cheese cake. So, if you love bbq , you must try Doc's. I know one thing. We will be dinning their soon. read more

We tried this place for the first time. We ordered from the carry out menu and had the smoked sausage, brisket and turkey with the corn casserole. Everything was delicious. All the meat was juicy and really didn't need any sauce, but we liked the sweet sauce a lot. We will definitely be back for more. read more

Great brisket. very juicy , smoked turkey too. baked beans awesome, mac and cheese a bit dry and flavorless. only cost $20 for 2 to eat. yes you tip before but if you need a soda or whatnot but use your legs and get up. they wont bite. the sweet and spicy is one of the best sauces ever! we liked the "Subway" style of ordering before you sit, the "pre" tip is worth not having to wait around for someone to take your order then wait for the bill. going back monthly!!! read more

The only bad thing I have to say is the lady at the hotel I stayed at didn't direct me here when I asked her about a bbq place to eat at. I've read some of the bad reviews and I don't know what happen on the days they were there but I have nothing but GREAT things to say about this place. So good! Everything is sooo good! I'm a barbecue snob, I always sample the bbq in every new town that I visit, and I'm a tough critic, but EVERYTHING is on point at Doc's. I've had the Ribs, the Pork, the Brisket, the Chicken, the Burnt Ends, the Nachos, the Pie, the Sides (Baked Beans are my favorite) all so good. Not very good at all! Spare ribs tasted boiled and then baked, the pulled pork was fatty and everything lacked seasoning and tasted bland. Won't go back, not worth the money we paid. And presentation is everything, even with takeout! It's not very appealing when you ball everything up in foil and it's all greasy and nasty when you try to open it. Doc's Smokehouse is an outstanding place to eat, from the great help to the awesome owners and of course the fantastic bbq, and lets not forget Susans fantastic deserts. my family and i like it so much we drive 2 1/2 hours just to eat there. I'm not usually a fan of BBQ, but my husband is a big fan. The staff was so polite and helpful in choosing menu items and what options would be best sized for my family. The food was great! We had the brisket and the pulled pork with pulled pork nachos. The brisket was lean with great flavor and the nachos had a white cheese sauce that was a hit with our 2 yo.
