Great food, great drinks, great service, and awesome ambience. We had a great time at DoG Street Pub!

No dog bones about it, DoG Street Pub is a gastronomic haven! I know, the name stands for Duke of Gloucester Street, but doggone it, ya gotta love backcronyms! And as they have a cute dog as their logo, it's all good!! My friends and I came here after touring Colonial Williamsburg. They were from California so they loved the history Williamsburg had to offer. We did a lot of walking and our dogs were barking, so we wanted a relaxing lunch! We chose this pup-ular gastropub because we were hankering for some good craft beer in a casual atmosphere. The British vibe certainly won us over! After nestling in a booth, we thoroughly reveled in poring over the extensive beer menu! We loved the cobalt blue bottle filled with water that was left for our table. (They sell them online!) A couple of us got flights, sampling some IPA's, pilsners, lagers and stouts! If you're a beer lover, you've hit the jackpot here! This is what the brew haha is all about! Generous pours and great beer! Let's raise the woof!! For lunch I chose the sweet and spicy chicken wings served with celery, the chicken was tender and meaty and finger-licking good though nothing to howl about. My table mates: one got the grilled cheese which was thick and gooey, served on thick ploughmans bread and grilled to a golden brown. Served with chips. I had a taste... yummy but too bready! Another ordered the Rail Sandwich with juicy pulled pork in a light, tangy sauce with melted Swiss, red onion, leafy lettuce, with a black pepper Mayo that rocked served on sourdough with huge slices of crunchy pickles on the side... amazing! My last visitor picked the Fried eggplant sandwich with spinach, goat cheese, and hummus which she described as bland and just ok. Stick with the English fare...the fish & chips, the burgers, and the corned beef brisket looked tempting!! The Brit menu and the craft beers are the stars of this dog show, but they offer other libations and grub for variety! Our server was a tad slow, but she didn't "hound" us ... but to be fair, the place was hopping (pre-Covid). The prices are decent especially for this touristy restaurant!They also have lots of merch for sale, and a really chill bar scene which will be a cool hang once the world gets back to normal. In the meantime, for the ulti-mutt adventure in casual American dining with an accent on British fare, DoG Street pub is pawsome choice for an average meal! read more

Kids fish and chips is to die over! Light fresh batter with perfectly cooked fish inside. Caesar salad is simple as done just right, added a salmon filet that was stolen by my child and eaten to completion. Best hamburger around. A must go in DT Williamsburg, can not be beat. read more

I am only giving a 1 star because I have to.. I checked in and was told it would be a 30 minute wait for our party of five. 35 minutes later and nothing. I asked the hostess and she said they were waiting for two tables to open up so they could put them together. There were plenty of large tables but because they didn't have enough wait staff they couldn't serve us there. Three parties left which freed up five tables, which sat there to be cleaned. I asked the hostess again about the tables and she said they needed to be cleaned. Ten minutes (and approximately an hour since we had arrived), they were still cleaning the tables. No sense of urgency. Poor customer service. I left and went to another restaurant. I never heard from this restaurant to let me know the table was "ready". read more

VERY good food in a VERY convenient location!! Just right next to Colonial Williamsburg, it's a nice stop for lunch. Their menu has a nice variety of offerings, and their food and drinks were VERY good!! Even the food and drinks that other tables around us got looked really good. The ambiance is nice, though may easily get overcrowded and loud due to the establishment's popularity. The interior is very pretty. read more

Real pubs always proudly serve fish and chips, and say theirs is the best in the world. Alas, this one can't do that. The fish and chips here is the worst I can recall. The fish was absolutely tasteless. Not quite so bad were the too large mushy fried potato pieces. And one could just ignore the mashed peas. A very small tartar sauce serving ran out quickly, and vinegar and salt had to be requested, in our quest to provide some flavor to the fish. Didn't work. I've loved fish and chips all my long life, and eaten them in our USA, in Canada, and in Britain. I even worked in a fish and chips restaurant during high school. I know good fish and chips. Such a disappointment. Surely the word "Pub" must be removed from this restaurant's title, as they absolutely don't deserve it. read more

Food is bland and service was very inattentive. For the price, I would suggest adding salt and pepper with the fish and fries. Would not recommend the place. Just a side note, do not leave your pass in your table after your meal. We came back to look for my pass and it was already thrown in the trash! read more

I like it here a lot. We typically come here on a weekday so we always find two seats together at the bar (our preference). The bartenders are wonderful; kind, personable, very welcoming. The have a decent selection of beer to choose from, and because I was indecisive I ordered a flight with 3 beers I wanted to try. The scotch eggs I ordered were fried and so heavenly, my only complaint is that it was a bit dry. Paired with the ground mustard, perfect flavor. Walking in colonial Williamsburg I just happened to come accross the DoG with it's cute little puppy mascot signage. I feel like cute pups get the best of all of us... anyways on to the review! Drink: The DoG has an impressive selection of draught and bottled beers. Unfortunately I didn't properly read the menu cause I'm a dumbass and they have a section of their upcoming draughts that aren't actually on tap yet. Sad panda. In my defense why would you tell me what you have next week??? I chose the Three Notc'd Passionfruit Gose (sour ale) in the end. I like sour ales, and I refuse to admit that they're piss water but instead a sophisticated fruitty, tarty blend of goodness. Food: I ordered their house burger and was presented with a mediocre burger although plus points for asking how I wanted it cooked and actually delivering on it. The burger wasn't super well seasoned, the salt from the Virginia ham overtaking without any complex flavour (literally just salty meat flavour). The saving grace of the burger was it's 5 star house sauce which I would either want bottled or the recipe to. The sauce is so good it elevated the okay burger to "good" burger status. Well done on that. We also ordered the fried codfish sandwich which was fried well, tender and super fresh. I cannot say the same about their measly, tiny and sandy mussels (don't order this, you're welcome). My girlfriend also got the turkey wrap which well it's a turkey wrap. It can only be so good. Overall I give this pub a three star only for the beer selection and burger sauce. You can probably find a better spot so keep on looking friend! read more

Serving pub far accompanied by an extensive beer selection (local and international) this historical building gives you a unique pub experience harkening back to days of eating and drinking in a low lit, yet festive environment, The food was just ok. Made up of a blend of Irish pub and classics, there is something for everyone, though the quality is so-so. The deviled eggs were s but bland until you tore apart the coin panting spiced bacon to add flavor. I had Bangers and Mash. The sausages were very good, but the mash was hurried under a mountain of bland, over onioned gravy. The highlight for me was the Welsh Rarebit cheese over bread as it is not only hard to find these days, but it was very tasty. Grabbed a late lunch here while visiting colonial Williamsburg with family in the area. Pretty average pub with the usual menu items and so-so service you would expect. I had the fish and chips, which were fresh but pretty bland. Malt vinegar and tartar were necessary, which is ok, but the batter could use some doctoring. Fries were hot and crispy but had a weird mushiness in the center. Wait times for a table, service, and getting a check were lengthy. Service was polite, but they were very busy so it was spotty. We sat at the bar myself my daughter and my grandson, service was great... And food was delicious, I had the shepherds pie and could not recommend it enough if you love mashed potatoes, gravy, and a very mild delicious ground lamb you can't go wrong everything about it was perfect full of flavor and super yummy. My daughter had the eggplant sandwich, which was also delicious and she would definitely order it again, my grandson had the bangers and mash. Typically this is his favorite food wherever we go unfortunately, the casing on the Bangerz was a little tough and very chewy I think perhaps we are used to them being browned a little more, can't say for sure, but it was enough to make it four stars instead of five. the potatoes and gravy were delicious on the Bangor sent mash. I would recommend this restaurant drinks were superb and I would definitely come back. read more

First, make sure you have reservations if you have a party of more than 4 people. This place is BUSY and the wait could be north of 45 minutes (especially on beautiful weekends!) Second, if you love beer this place has a lovely selection of sours, ciders, ales etc...so feel free to try a flight of beers if you can't choose which one you want! The ambiance here is pretty nice. Our server was prompt, knowledgeable and made sure our party had what we needed (water refilled, drinks, clearing off the table) The food was,for the most part, pretty good. Our table ordered the rail sandwich, the croquettes, lamb burger and corn beef brisket sandwich. Not a single person at our table was disappointed with their meal. The croquettes were cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious, the lamb burger was good but I suggest you ask to have the bun grilled (it's not good with an I toasted bun), the rail sandwich was fantastic but the brisket sandwich was okay. All-in-all this place is worth the wait...but I'd love to see the owner/manager get the chef's line to step it up a bit on the food. read more

We couldn't have picked a more perfect place to have lunch! While shopping we spotted this cool pub that had outdoor seating to enjoy the gorgeous weather! Do you want to know what sealed the deal? Dogs. Dogs were allowed on the patio. So, I got lunch and a show. We were seated at a dog free table, but everyone around us had dogs, it was wonderful. I've never seen so many people walking around with their dogs in a shopping center. The waitress brought a carafe of water to start, which was welcome since we were parched from spending money. We waited a little while on our waitress throughout the entire meal, which is why I had to knock off a star. We had to flag her down for drinks, checks, ketchup...you get the idea. It isn't relaxing to have to be alert to try to catch your server taking a step outside so you can get ketchup before your fries get cold. I will say that I was overjoyed at the amount of ice in my cup for my coke when I got it. We enjoyed fish and chips and the Rail sandwich. The fish and chips were cooked perfectly. The breading was crispy and thick and not one bit soggy! The fish was flaky white and the portion was huge! The fries (chips) were some of the best I've had, too. Very flavorful. The Rail sandwich has pulled pork with Swiss cheese, pickles and red onions. It was delicious and so big she could only eat half of it. I would highly recommend this great restaurant for a cool British experience during your Williamsburg visit! read more

Each time I have eaten here it has taken at least 30 minutes for someone to acknowledge the table and bring water, and it was not because it was a super busy time of day. The lamb burger was good and service was good once the table was finally acknowledged. read more

Preface: I have worked FOH in a variety of settings. Not just a cranky pants. Arrived around 2:30 with my husband and our dog for a "quick" beverage stop. Walked in and loved the vibe but obviously no dogs inside, so we were given a shady spot on the patio. We asked the hostess for a bowl of water for the dog, she said we would have to wait until the server arrived and they would get one. Reasonable. Except a sever never arrived. I thought hey maybe they're short staffed, maybe it's shift change. Why else would there be three unbussed tables left for that amount of time? Out of curiosity I set a timer on my phone once an unreasonable time had already passed, then finally went inside to order form the bar once the timer hit an additional 15 minutes. I mentioned the lack of service to the two FOH staff who were scrolling through their phones at the register and received no apology or effort to provide service or water. One star because the bartender was very nice and professional and that was the only redeeming quality. read more

The service here is truly abysmal. It is common to wait 1 hr or more to be seated. When you go to management to ask you'll get a passive "oh I'm so sorry I'll see if there's anything I can do for you" and then you'll wait another 30 minutes to hour. The food and beer is not nearly good enough to warrant such mismanagement. Do yourself a favor and go literally to any other restaurant nearby, the quality is so much better read more

My favorite place in the Merchant Square/ Historic Area of Williamsburg. Love that it was an old bank building converted into a pub. Large selection of local brews and plenty from the larger region too. Can get busy, hectic but while some Yelpers have noted inconsistencies in service, I have not during my yearly late February visit to the old colonial Capitol. Besides the beer on tap my recommendations include the DOG burger (thank God it's cooked to order not the dried out leather found elsewhere)--the ham just gives it a nice boost. The cod sandwich or fish and chips are solid. If you do the grilled chili dog, you should be hungry--it's a huge dish. Brunch on Sunday is fun too, especially their variation of a "full English". Good food, friendly service and a good selection of local beers and food. The inside was your typical upscale pub and outdoor they had patio seating (perfect for your dog). The pub overlooks Colonial Williamsburg, which is great for people watching. While a bit overpriced (seemed to attract a lot of tourists give its proximity), the food was good. We really enjoyed the tacos, croquettes, and cheese board (would pass on the fried green tomatoes). Good spot to take a break from Colonial Williamsburg and get a snack and beer. read more

I'm guessing because if their location they don't have to have great service or food to still have customers. It's really a shame they could have better service which is quite slow and make the menu a bit more appetizing and really knock it out of the park. Been coming here for years, and never an issue. Stopped by on my way back home from a work trip, and COVID rules were in full effect. Couldn't sit at the bar, so they sat me at the end of a high top which was cool. Came in to grab a few local beers, and the server was very attentive and gave good insights (didn't introduce himself though or I'd throw his name out there). Went through a good number of tasters and pints, and while I miss the bar environment being able to talk to people, it was a good experience overall. Got a DoG Street Burger to go, which that and the fries/pub sauce have been in my top ten best dishes I've ever had for years. Quality definitely hasn't gone down during COVID, and they've been adhering strictly to VA safety guidelines. Sitting close to the door, and as a small business owner, I overheard and felt bad at how much business they had to turn away due to the mandate (another reason we need to open fully). Always a good spot to eat when looking for more casual options in Merchant Square. It was really quiet on a Sunday night. They have an array of pubby brunch, lunch, dinner and beer options. The outside seating is dog friendly for those who want to bring a pet. Inside is bright and airy with tall communal tables for groups or individuals. The menu is a bit limited, with mostly British pub classics like shepherd's pie, rarebit, tikka masala, bangers and mash, etc. I wasn't too hungry so I had a simple salmon salad which came with a large, flaky salmon patty, tomatoes, cucumber and vinaigrette. It was tasty but nothing special. I tried rarebit for the first time, which had melted cheese and sauce on a crusty bread. Very rich and delicious! They have a large selection of local draft beers and ciders. My sour was really good. Would recommend overall for the atmosphere and if in the mood for British cuisine and beers. read more
