Over $1000 for a visit. Only came here because I was recommended by my optometrist. I asked the front desk to reassure my insurance is accepted and got the ok. Wait time is a while over 2 hours. They put two eye drops, spent 5 minutes just to confirm what my optometrist already knew. I was hit with the bill 2 months later with no sort of heads up, and that my insurance wouldn't cover it? Very unfair way to do business. I would have denied services if that was the case. I've been reading around and I'm assuming something went wrong with the procedure codes between the office and the insurance. read more

I would definitely recommend Dr Huang because he is highly qualified and a leader in his field. However, I had a 9am appointment and didn't see the Doctor until 10 am. Frustrating because I still had to get to work. Seems like others who came in after me we're seen and left before me. I think they forgot about me even though I checked in at 8:45. After having to go to Jules Stein at UCLA in 2015 and not being happy with the wait and below par equipment, I was happy to be referred to Doheny Eye Center instead of Jules Stein. I didn't have to wait long but once I was in an exam room, I realized that it doesn't matter the location, UCLA is UCLA whether it's in Westwood or Pasadena. First, they wouldn't accept my up to date visual field results and eye photos from my regular ophthalmologist. Telling me they want their own test results aka bill for everything possible. Second, and this is my BIGGEST PEEVE about UCLA eye centers. Their equipment is never up to date with the calibration schedule. All of the equipment is a year past due on service that means that the last time they were checked was in 2016. How can you get accurate readings and test results with equipment that isn't properly calibrated? My eye pressure registered a good 10 points higher than it normally does. Lastly, after speaking with my own doctor, we decided what the best procedures would be for me at this time. I used UCLA mychart to contact the doctor with being told it would take 2 business days to get a response. I sent that Monday morning. It's now Thursday and I have heard nothing back. Also, my chart has so much incorrect information on it, I don't know where to start to get these people to get even the basics correct. If it weren't for Dr. Francis being the only one certified for a specific procedure in the Los Angeles area, I would not be going back here. read more

Steer Clear!! Was referred to Dr Quiros by my opthalmologist. Called to schedule an appointment and spoke with Becky who informed me that I would have to submit my records for review before I would be permitted to schedule an appointment. I should note that I stressed that this was a medical emergency and time was of essence several times during our call. My Op's office submitted my records the same day. It has been 7 weeks and I have yet to hear from anyone in this practice. There's a reason such poor reviews. My Op referred me to another neuro op and I was seen within three days. It doesn't have to be this difficult Doheny/Becky. read more

I had blurry vision and I saw a retinal specialist when i was in Vegas. He advised finding a retinal specialist where I lived in LA. Doheny first of all lost the paperwork that the initial retinal specialist sent. Then when I got to office I asked for the cash discount bc I knew my insurance was not good. The front office just dismissed me and said they did not know. I saw Gad Heilweil..he said "why are you here?" I said "because I can't see out of my eye!!". He just performed eye test when I said the other retinal specialist advised for it. He just said "uh ok lets do it than". After the test, he just said "well u have scar tissue in there". Duh, I already know that why is my eye blind? All he said was "maybe its the scar tissue". That was it..fortunately month later i got my eyesight back so obviously it wasnt bc of the scar tissue. He did nothing and i got a $2,000 bill!!! read more

Horrible service. Don't waste your time. I'm not sure how they're still operating. It now makes sense why they have a poor rating. I would suggest that the staff learned the basics because they apparently don't know how to communicate with patients. Its been a few weeks that we were told that Victoria, the surgery coordinator would contact me and so far nothing. I got tired of calling and leaving voicemails. I left messages with the receptionist as well thinking that would help, but no. Not even a courtesy call. You're better off looking elsewhere if they don't contact you within a week or two. read more

She keeps patients waiting TWO hours regularly, doesn't listen to patients to get a good idea of their real concerns and does not follow up as promised. Trust me. You will be sorry. read more

I arrived at 2:30 for my 2:45 appointment with Dr. Ip. After sitting in the waiting room during the delta surge for 30 minutes, I asked the receptionist when would my turn come up. She said there was 5 people ahead of me and it would be at least another hour. I may be seen by the doctor at 4 pm for my 2:45 pm appointment. How unprofessional is that? Only in the medical offices do they think it is ok to keep your clients/patients waiting for an hour plus. Anywhere else won't even honor the appointment if you are an hour late. The office management is horrible here. They need to manage their scheduling in a way that is considerate of the patients that pay their bills. The patients' time is valuable too. read more

Haven't been seen yet after waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes..so far not impressed by the service. Shouldn't schedule appointments if patients are kept waiting this long..very, very disappointing! Just down graded the stars to one star. After waiting 1 hour and 20 min to see the doctor, he came in and did not even acknowledge that I waited so long. I went to see Dr Sadun, spent more time with the tech. Dr Sadun came for last 3 mins of my appointment, didn't really asked me what my symptoms were, he gave me a miss diagnosis. Costco ophthalmologist gave me better information than Dr Sadun "a specialist Neuro-ophto doctor " waste of time and money. Doctors need to listen to their patients complaints. read more

I had an eyelid surgery in 2012. It lasted until 2017 and it was redone. The second time around, the recovery was very protracted and lasted about a month. The problems were not solved. My wife said of that ophthalmologist, now retired, "I wouldn't let him operate on me because he has big hands." In 2019, Daniel Rootman, MD, operated. This was the third time. There were some unusual complications, but they were handled quickly. All of my eyelid issues are now fixed. Dr. Rootman has just about the most knowledge I have ever seen about eye surgeries. HIs assistant, Dr. Karlin, is also very helpful. I would recommend Dr. Rootman 100%! read more

My husband was referred to Dr Tan for his glaucoma. Dr Tan and everyone at Doheny Eye Center are very friendly and caring. Dr Tan also performs surgery at Arcadia Outpatient Surgical Center and my husband raved about his care there as well. We would highly recommend Dr Tan if you are in need of his specialty. read more

I would give Dr. Irvine 5 stars if I didn't have ridiculous wait times to see him. He is a fabulous eye doctor. I've visited him 2x. The first time I was kept in the waiting room for 45 minutes for an 8am appt. The second time they took me quickly, after the tech left it was again close to 45 minutes before doctor came in. What gives? If service isn't better for my Sept appt I will switch opthamologists. He diagnosed the issue and treatment worked. But if you have a schedule to maintain I would try another group. read more

My husband and I switched from our prior ophthalmologist to Dr. Vikas Chopra at Doheny Eye Center. The entire staff -- from appointments, to intake, to technicians and physicians, are top notch, professional and friendly. It matters a lot when your doctor and his staff know you, know your history, and are genuinely concerned about your eye health. As someone who has worn glasses since age one and has had a lifetime of serious eye issues, the excellent care here is priceless. I've read some complaints about the waiting time, but wouldn't you want your doctor to spend as much time as you needed with you? Or fit you in if it is an emergency? read more

While I would recommend Dr. Michael Ip for anyone in need of eye surgery, I have to advise you to be prepared for an extremely long wait before you see him. Bring a pillow, a blanket, a hot meal, maybe even a board game as the normal wait time, as explained by the front office staff, is usually 2 hours!! My husband was in need of urgent eye surgery and Dr. Ip was wonderful at attending to him and was able to perform the surgery the next day. However, the first time seeing him was a 5 hour ordeal. I thought, ok...he's seeing us on short notice and we're in high need. But each subsequent follow up appointment has been the same..at least 2 hours. I have no complaint with Dr. Ip's work, he's wonderful. Just be prepared to experience the seasons change before you get in. read more

I saw Daniel B Rootman for eye pain. He looked at my eye, said nothing was wrong and took a digital photograph with an everyday digital camera. Then they sent me a bill for $246 for the digital picture they took of my face for my profile. CRIMINAL. In addition to that, they charged my insurance $800 for the whole visit of him looking at the exterior of my eye only to say you're fine. A week later I went to a different eye doctor and she dilated my eye - gave me a real and thorough exam and found I had holes in the back of my retina and needed a laser eye procedure to fix it. This doctor and institute are not unethical to charge someone $246 for a digital picture. I reported them to my insurance and the California Department of Insurance for insurance fraud. And plan to follow up with the Beter Business Bureau and Attorney General Consumer Protection Agency. Don't fo to this institute. They will unethically over charge you. read more

I do not recommend this eye center because it is totally disorganized and the important information you share is completely lost with the many staff that you see (new faces every time), their inexperience and inability to extrapolate and communicate important information to the doctor, and a lack of organizational and communication structure that works. Yesterday, I was left unattended in an office for more than hour, told I would be visited by a fellow who never appeared, was given an inappropriate exam by a technician when the kind of exam I needed was clearly discussed with two other people and agreed upon with the doctor in a previous visit. Plus the exam should have been given by the fellow. The technician didn't even properly align the equipment to my eyes. I could go on. That this office has the venerable UCLA name is misleading and a shame. I would find better. read more

Dr. Hugo Hsu has been treating me for several conditions, for which he appears to be an expert. His medical background is UCLA and USC, no easy programs to be admitted to. What is reassuring is that I have another condition that is treated by his colleague in the same practice, Vikas Chopra. There is a unified medical record, so both MDs have access to the info. The practice has a portal for communicating, and Dr. Hsu responded promptly to concerns I had. I needed cataract surgery, and another MD said he would trust his "family member to Dr. Hsu" for that surgery. I just underwent cataract surgery, and I was impressed with Dr. Hsu's professionalism, experience, efficiency, energetic take-care-of-business attitude, approachability, attention to detail, and how much time me spent with me. Instead of having others instruct patients, he actually goes over everything 1:1. He instills confidence. The surgery was a complete success. read more

Went for a Glaucoma check-up and a discomfort in the left eye and spent about 2.5 hours there. A couple of weeks later, I got a bill with $265 after insurance. They charge every little thing (all dollar amounts below are before insurance): * $830 - Eye exam, new patient (for talking to the dr. for 1/2 hour? Seriously?) * $150 - Special eye eval * $375 - Visual field exam (~15 mins) * $405 - Fundal photography (2 pictures of my eye balls) * $170 - US, eye, for cornea (totally no idea what this one is for) Total: $1930 I know the Glaucoma check-up costs probably close to $1000, but they charge double the amount. This office deserves high marks for cleanliness and a very pleasant intake procedure however internally they are excruciatingly slow. It would appear this is a teaching organization - we have been in the office for 90 minutes and have spoken to three different people none of them being the doctor and continue to wait. What a strange organization and the one that certainly does not respect the time of the patients. We will in all likelihood to not continue to seek medical services here. read more

I saw Michael Ip and another "retina specialist" here with severe signs of a retina tear and they completely missed it. Shortly after I started having a retina detachment, and when I called they told me to go to Jules Stein at UCLA. I wish they had passed me off to start with, now I am about 50% blind in one eye. Do yourself a favor and drive to the west side, your eyesight is worth the extra distance. The Doheny office did however refund my eight dollar copay. read more

I took my daughter for her post-op appointment to see Dr Lee. She is one of a kind and we are pleased with her treatment. The other doctors there seem to be just as great. This clinic is in a very nice buiding. It's worth paying a few dollars for parking. The clinic staff is kind and attentive. The front desk staff is friendly and always ready to help. After being diagnosed with glaucoma at a relatively young age, I was referred to Dr. Vikas Chopra for surgery. He took excellent care of me, and my glaucoma is now stable. Yes, there is a wait in the office, but if you need to go in for a concern or an emergency, you will get taken care of. If you want world-class treatment at a facility with access to current research for a serious eye problem, then this is the place. If you want to get in and out fast, and don't care so much about the quality of care, then maybe you will want to consider another provider. The staff are patient and caring, and remember the patients. Worth the wait! read more

Dr. Chopra did my glaucoma surgery and he is THE BOMB! He is friendly, considerate and willing to go the extra mile. My eye pressure is now just where it should be and boy was it very high to start! Dr Chopra is up on all the newest research and procedures.  He is willing to work with you if you are the eye squeamish type (like I was) to the point that you become extremely trusting of him to do what he needs to do for you. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT go to this place. This is the worst place to go to if you have a problem. I've been seeing Dr. Olivia Lee for a few years hoping for some results. I have scleritis, it's a chronic condition. She told me it's some very rare condition and kept calling me back. I assumed she is just collecting data, or something, hoping for some results. When I realized that nothing is happening but losing my time and money, I stopped going. After 1.5 ran out of meds. Called asking for a refill. They refused and forced me going there for prescription renewal. During the entire 2 hours I've spent there, she spent 20 seconds per eye to examine, typed something for 3-4 minutes and handed the prescription. The bill that they sent was for $835. When I called to find out why am I getting this outrageous bill for basically 40 seconds of her time, I was told that this is UCLA, i would probably be charged less if I had gone some other place. I called UCLA, even managed to speak to 3-4 different people in a duration of 4 months or so, everyone of them pushed me ahead to another person and at the end nothing was resolved. Olivia Lee is not a doctor, I went to another doctor recently and understood that scleritis is not rare and that Olivia Lee should never practice or at least go back to school first. read more

Horrible experience. The receptionist and technician are very kind, and I appreciate being squeezed in to see the legendary Dr Quiros. I have visual distortion from optic neuropathy following optic neuritis earlier this year. My neurologist sent me for a second opinion on the distortion. Dr Quiros' fellows performed run of the mill, standard testing on me for hours, took a detailed history, complained about my long list of medications to be input (I have RA and they requested it), and dilated my pupils. Dr Quiros came in only at the end, looked in each eye for less than a second, and said he didn't understand why I was there because my eyes were perfect (optic neuritis usually resolves with 100% vision recovery). Apparently my neurologist failed to send over adequate notes. Still, after 3.5 hours in the office, surely some of my history had been communicated from the fellows to Dr Quiros. I was there for the NEURO part of NEURO-ophthalmology all along. I am not an uneducated patient. Dr Quiros scoffed at my MRI which shows some optic nerve damage, told me it was probably my glasses - which I've been wearing for 4 years, or that the problem was cognitive. Then I was shown the door. I've never seen less concern or been treated like a hysterical woman before. The report sent back to my own Doctor was that my vision problems were functional (in my head) and potentially from conversion disorder (a mental condition). My Doctor couldn't believe another physician could be so arrogant and incorrect. My optometrist can see with his relevant testing that my eyes still don't focus together and is actually trying to help me see better with special lenses. That's what real physicians do. Help, not judge from on high. read more

I saw both Dr. Ip (Retina) and Dr. Irvine (Cornea). I have a long history of working in a hospital ICU and I can tell you these guys are fantastic! So knowledgeable and caring, but as important is their abilities to communicate with me, the patient. My exams were thorough, and thoroughly explained. The office staff is also great--Mary and Lorraine in the back office, and the front office staff, as well. Wait time was less than 10 minutes--very efficient time management. So happy to have their care for my eyes. read more
