I was so excited to try this place after seeing it listed on the Houston Restaurant Week list! There is plenty of parking in the nearby garage, and it is free. Our party was served by Kei, who was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Everything my boyfriend and I ordered was delicious and did not disappoint! The highlights of the entire meal were definitely the Gyudon and Ube Tres Leches. The Gyudon was packed with flavor, the beef was incredibly tender, and it paired perfectly with the chimichurri sauce. The Ube Tres Leches was something I had never tried before, and it was a game changer. It was moist, flavorful, and had the perfect level of sweetness. Overall, I would highly recommend this place and cannot wait to come back for the Gyudon and Ube Tres Leches!

Interesting food concept, if you are looking to be adventurous this is a good place to go but the food didn't leave me wanting to come back again. Chill vibe and great service

My friend & I went here on a weekday and it was actually quite busy. The restaurant itself is pretty small but cute vibes. When we were finally seated, we got both the regular & Houston Restaurant Week menus. The service was great with both of the waitresses that helped us answering any questions we had and being very kind. I ordered the dishes from the HRW menu while my friend ordered two dishes off of the regular menu. Everything we both had combined was delicious that I don't even know what my favorite was. By the time my dessert came around, we were both surprisingly full. I'll have to come back & try more items!

Came from Houston Restaurant Weeks and it was a great bang for your buck. $55 for 4 courses - I got the crudo, spicy tuna maki, gyudon, and ube tres leches. The maki and don were super filling. Everything was really tasty and our server was nice and had great timing. I also tried the lychee martini which was good. The interior is pretty small so would definitely make a reservation. There's metered street parking as well as a parking garage, which the hostess said was free.

Came here for their March lunch special. Minimalist interior. Small amount of free street parking at Autry Park. Unagi Katsu Sando: what we came for... but not something I'd recommend. The bread was dry/stale and overpowered the unagi. The unagi itself could've used more sauce to amp up the flavor. The sandwich definitely needed more vegetables too for some more contrast in flavors and texture. Spicy tuna roll: Yummm! Good ratio of well seasoned fish to rice. Looks very pleasing to the eye as well. 5 nigiri set: was part of their lunch specials and very reasonable price. They dressed these nicely from what I remember. My notes while trying them were that the amberjack had a delicious dressing, the flounder was bland, Spanish bluefin tuna was fresh, strip jack was "good" (lol), and the Norwegian ocean trout had chili oil that you could really taste. The sushi saved the meal imo, I would hope they've improved their sandwiches since then...

I'm actually really surprised with this place. The inside was giving me a retro casual vibe. They have interesting seating at the bar where it's booth seating almost but more love seats, which is perfect for a date. The service was impressive in that the server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I could tell the sushi here was of high quality. The fish was fresh and had subtle flavors to it. I tried the chirashi which comes with an assortment of fish on top of a bed of rice. The rice is sushi rice. I also tried the chicken katsu which was a special for them It was suppose to be a fusion of Thai and Japanese flavors. I think the Japanese flavors came mostly from the chicken and the curry was more Thai flavored. The curry was creamy and the chicken was crispy and soft. It was just overall easy to eat. I did try a few different rolls. The rolls weren't my favorite but they were still good enough and unique. I've never had rolls like theirs before. One of them had a spicy flavor with almost too many flavors going on. The salmon roll was my favorite it had like a pickled flavor to it and carrots in it. It was almost like a Korean roll like gimbap.

I went to Doko Sushi with a friend on a Saturday night, and having a reservation is definitely a must since it's a pretty small restaurant. I had requested a booth ahead of time and was really happy they accommodated us! To start, I ordered the KFC, and it was so good. The chicken was crispy and juicy, and the caviar with the ranch sauce paired perfectly with it. I also had some nigiri, which was fresh and delicious as well. Throughout the night, I ordered a mocktail that was super refreshing and paired nicely with the meal. For dessert, we had the cheesecake and another dessert that was like a black sesame mousse. The cheesecake was definitely our favorite -- so good and the perfect way to end the night. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience. The entire staff and waiters were incredibly kind and welcoming, and I would absolutely come back.

Really cool sushi spot, worth a try especially if you enjoy their sister restaurant, Handies Douzo. Food was great and so many amazing things to try. Not a single mid dish and extremely hard to choose a favorite, definitely ask your server for recommendations! The interior of the restaurant has a cool vibe and isn't too large. Even with most tables full on a Saturday night it felt lively without being overly noisy and tables had decent spacing between them. Service was great and our waitress was incredibly kind. We really enjoyed that she constantly made meaningful conversation with us without being overbearing. Would definitely visit again for good food and vibes

An off-menu alternative with strawberry syrup mixed with lychee syrup because they didn't have the lychee liquor to make a martini

Duck...Duck...Doko! Okay, I just had to. I have tried Aiko, Himari, and Handies Douzo, and they are all under the umbrella of Duckstache Hospitality Group. I'd say that Handies Douzo has been the most consistent for me personally as a patron and sushi-lover. With that being said, I've noticed some similarities between their dishes, and because of that, I feel like the dining experience is a bit skewed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but, even if they are umbrella'd under the same hospitality group, the dining experiences and dishes should be exclusive to each restaurant and unique based on the concept, but I felt that Doko was just an elevated plate and sushi roll version of their hand roll bar and sushi restaurants. It felt very much like a "copy cat" of their other restaurants. And for that, even their tasting menu was not worth what I paid. The umami and gastronomy experience was underwhelming and half of their dishes were overly salty!! So disappointing because it took away from the star of the dishes - which is the fish!!! Particularly, the maguro crudo...if you've been to Handies Douzo it comes in smaller pieces, rolled up in a little bowl and topped with the same toppings they use at Doko. And sometimes, even at Handies, it's pretty salty from the chili crunch. This time, at Doko, it was basically drowning in the sauce and chili crunch. It is still a fan favorite tho! I highly recommend trying their off-menu seasonal items such as the kanpachi crudo that was not part of the tasting menu. Less about the sauce and more about the fish. The shrimp yakitori, while fresh, was overpowered with sauce and toppings too. The better part of the tasting menu was when the server substituted the scallops for the wagyu skewers. yum!! Buttery and melted in my mouth! And the nigiri was good too, but not great. Another disappointing, but can't really fault them moment, is that they were out of the lychee liquor, and a few of their most popular menu items! I was really craving a lychee martini too..,And on top of that, they charged our tasting menu as itemized items separately, so it came out to more than the $120/pp which is what it should have been. HOWEVER, David, our server, and Alejandra the MOD, DID rectify both the drink and bill issues, and gold stars for David for being super friendly and apologetic about it all. But can't overlook the whole experience. That would've been a $100+ overpayment on our bill had I not caught the mistake!! I will leave this review on a high note, and say that their drink menu (alcoholic) and bar Doko is solid. Their cocktail menu is strong and I'd definitely come back just for the drinks! It's too bad that I can't say the same for their food. I'd say their small bites menu and their yakitori are the stars on the menu, but sadly, their sushi, nigiri and rolls fell short. PSA: they just brought in a new chef a few weeks ago I think....? Wondering if that played a part in the night we had. Chef-change did make me nervous.

I went here for my 8 year anniversary, and this place did not disappoint. First, parking in the garage is free if you give your parking ticket to the receptionist. The service is amazing here. They offer many off the menu items, so the waiter gave us multiple recommendations based on what we previously ordered. The maki and nigiris are so good, I would recommend the maki for more pieces. My favorite dish overall would have to be the Wagyu toast that's like tartare on toast. All dishes are relatively small, so I would get a few more dishes than normal to try various things. I would recommend this place for a special occasion. The vibe is really nice.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! Small, intimate, elegant... *Small plates but rich in flavor *Eclectic food, the ingredients are so unique, you'd be surprised *Service is excellent, we got Sakii and he was so helpful with the menu, everything he recommend was divine *Parking, there is some outside and valet across the street From the moment you arrive until you leave, the staff at Doko really makes your experience unforgettable This intimate restaurant is perfect for small to medium size groups Make sure you get your reservation, since it's a small place you don't want to be waiting for a table Our expectations were surpassed, there was nothing to I could say needed some improvement We ordered: Gyozas , Edamame (a must!), sushi, skewers, sashimi, dessert and a cocktail, we fell in love with the food! Check out the pictures so you can fall in love too!!

We came here somewhat impromptu with the intention of enjoying drinks after having dinner nearby. We originally wanted to try Bar Doko but were turned down so came here instead. It is the same restaurant group as Hando's, but more focused on sushi and nigiri. The hostess was very kind and worked with the GM Alejandra to get us seated without a reservation. We were seated at the sushi bar directly in front of Chef Hugo, a real treat! For drinks, I got the Ube Espresso Martini and my partner got the Umeshu Old Fashioned. We both loved our drinks! I am a sucker for ube so that in an espresso martini was chef's kiss. The old fashioned also had a twist of chocolate in it. Since we were sitting in a sushi restaurant, we thought why not and decided to try their nigiri. We decided on the kanpachi and the masu. Both tasted very fresh and I liked the added touches that the chef added to the top. Chef Hugo even gave us both a freebie of madai on the house. Super kind of him! GM Alejandra kept coming by to check on us and wanted to make sure we got a chance to try Bar Doko. Upon making a last-minute resy there for 2 hours later, she kindly walked us over to the bar and made sure we were taken care of. Because of all the trouble, she took care of our drinks at Doko. The staff here really cares and that stands out! We had a great experience at Doko and will definitely keep it on our radar for sushi in Houston. They have a daily happy hour so I'd love to try that as well and continue supporting them.

Upon arrival, I was told that I could not sit at the sushi bar and eat. If I wanted to order I had to go sit in the common area of this dining hall. After this discussion, I said fine and asked for a menu. They then told me I had to get up and order at the register and view the menu glued to the counter. They took the order of a couple who sat down maybe 2 minutes before me in front of me. I will never come back to this place. They seem to be the last man standing in this dining hall, and with this kind of customer service, they won't last much longer. It's a shame because I love the food and I am a regular at handies and aiko as well. Won't be back to any of them.

The restaurant itself was pretty packed - there wasn't any parking (but they do have an overflow lot you can use). Inside the vibe was nice & upscale. It was surprisingly not intimate & was a little loud. The bathroom hallway was very cool (as the other reviews have said) I got the three course lunch w/ an added chutoro nigiri. The restaurant week lunch was fine, but the nigiri really stood out. I wish they would've had even just one nigiri on the restaurant week menu. The kombu salad was good & had nice flavor without being too overpowering. The hamachi crudo was awesome!! I'm a big crudo fan, but this one was above and beyond my expectations. All of the flavors played so well together & my yellowtail was so fresh and light and buttery. I loved the creaminess of the sauce & how it balanced the acidity of the tomatoes & onion so well. I savored every bite. Honestly the hand rolls left a lot to be desired. The kani hand role wasn't super great. The flavor was mid & the texture felt a bit off. I also thought sake hand roll was just ok.. My chutoro nigiri was also awesome. The cut was beautiful & the fish was super fresh and had an awesome texture. It just melted in my mouth. I'll definitely be back to try the lunch nigiri tasting menu. I'd recommend trying this place, just make sure to get the crudo or nigiri

GENERALIZED REVIEW:…read more Came here with a friend from theatre after a full run--he had this place recommended to him by another theatre friend, so we're just passing on the word. The plaza was a bit confusing to navigate, and I'm pretty sure if the place weren't full of Asian parents and their kids, it would've felt like the shadiest place ever because you have to enter from the back. Otherwise, the plaza had a lot of great-looking stores overall. My first go-to: I've loved drinking Kirin Light ever since I discovered it in Chicago. The flavor is literally so light, with a slight acidity that brightens up my meal. The sake here was frankly also delicious. I didn't order it, but my friend did, and they had it warmed. The flavor was soothing and subtle, almost like tea. It was exceptionally easy to drink, and the ocean-themed ceramicware was a beautiful touch. We ordered two rolls: the Shaggy Dog and the Truffalufagus (a fun tongue-twister). I personally chose the Truffalufagus (which is not fun to spell) because it seemed like the most unique dish on the menu, and I enjoyed it very much. What I liked most about it was that it was subtle yet impactful. I also loved the textures--from the internal crunch paired with the fresh jalapeño to the softness of the fish. I'm glad I gave this roll a shot, and I would be excited to try it again anytime. The Shaggy Dog was great, but it appealed less to my flavor profile. It was a little too rich and creamy for me. I recommended this place to my BF as a potential future date spot--I personally think he would like it... if he weren't the type to enjoy AYCE sushi so much. If they had more unique rolls, I would definitely come back just for those. I was tempted to order the Surf and Turf for this round, but I didn't want to seem like a glutton, hahaha.
