A group of us went here for dinner on a Saturday night since they had a graduation special discount. We ordered both AYCE and from the menu. Overall the food and cocktails were good. They automatically charged tip for our big group. It's nice that their menu separated raw and cooked sushi. Our waiter was friendly, explained the menu, and even joked around with us. A staff member had a birthday so they held up a birthday sign and another staff member dressed up in a Labubu mascot to celebrate the person's birthday. The place was big and decorated beautifully.

I did not like this place. I had friend who went here and had a different experience than me. So I guess this is a depends on who you are situation. There was a wait but it wasn't too long of a wait. First off, we noticed that we were not given the Signature napkins. I mean not a big deal but when we saw every other table had received it, we were just wondering why we were missed. Service was horrible. Our waitress took forever to come to help us. Our order was messed up several times and several times she forgot to bring something we order. At one point she disappeared for a while and another person helped us. The sushi was pretty basic. But the apps were really good. I usually list what's everything is but I think I was so underwhelmed with this experience I just ate and snapped. I took a picture of the bathroom situation. I'm a semi germaphobe and this doorknob is not a good idea. I want to be able to use the tissue to open it. You can't. You have to bare hand this. Yes I know there is soap and water on the other side.

Machi sushi was a great experience overall! My friends and I came here for our monthly AYCE outing and were not disappointed. Service was great - our waiter was really kind and attentive to all our requests. The restaurant itself was nice, clean and had Japanese-inspired decor throughout. We set a reservation for 8 and that was also greatly helpful to secure seating for a large party. My favorite were the seated nigiri. They did have a limit on how many pieces you could order per person per round, but that didn't hinder the experience at all. It was definitely worth the price and this was one of my more favorite AYCE locations.

$35.95 for Dinner AYCE Sushi. Overall everything was fine, nothing really stood out to me honestly. - Mango Salmon: Out of the raw appetizers we had, this one was my favorite. - Sashimi: Half of our orders were served on ice and then the other half wasn't. Slice thickness has slight variability, but overall I would say it leans a little bit more towards the thicker side. However overall size, slightly on the smaller side for some places. - Rolls: They were fine, I didn't feel like there was a big difference in the rolls. Out of the ones we ordered, I liked Monster and Orange Dragon the most. (I do have a slight preference for salmon over other fish, soooo do with what you want with that info) - Hand Rolls: Fish was mainly top loaded so I felt like when I was eating it, my last 1-2 bites was basically all rice, but the one I had nice thick pieces of salmon which I appreciated They had tempura vanilla ice cream which I haven't seen at other places so that was cool. I didn't try it because I was too full. They also had a vending machine that sold pokémon cards right at the entrance of the restaurant. They also had one of those little delivery robot thingys that would come and deliver some of your food, that was kinda cute.

The variety was great they have a bunch of different entrees and even ramen. I can't believe they even have seared salmon, shrimp, and beef. It's limited to 5 pieces per person. I got the salmon and it was delightful. I don't feel like it needed all the sauce on it but the Smokey flavor from being seared on the fatty salmon melted in my mouth 5/5. Their rolls were pretty thick inside. The service was fair they're short staffed. The lady I had gave good recommendations. I really enjoyed the skinny girl and Astro roll. The Astro roll had like salmon on top of it and the texture on top was like crispy. It was a bit drenched too much in the sweet chili sauce. I give that one 4/5 stars. The skinny roll had a nice flavor to it. It had a little spice. 4/5. The tiger eye was pretty standard but the roll was a little big 2/5. Angel roll 3/5. The Mexican sunrise was different it came with only 5 rolls and decent 3/5. The hamachi chili was my other favorite the flavors really brightened it and had some spice with the jalapeño on top 5/5. The pepper tuna tataki was ok 3/5 I liked how the texture was. The mango salmon was drenched in like soy sauce I was not a fan and the mango was just weird with all that soy sauce 1/5.

Very cute ayce sushi spot. Service was quick at first but then dwindled down. The food came out lightning fast. Sushi was good! Hibachi steak were huge pieces and came out medium rare and not well done like so many places do when asked for medium rare. They don't skimp on portions. The menu is a bit small compared to all the ayce sushi spots that's popped up recently. But overall good experience here.

Came for the 20% off promo for all you can eat lunch. Lots of parking in front and some behind the building. Loved the interior decor! We ordered a few rounds and food always came out pretty quickly. For AYCE, each order of sushi comes in 1 piece and rolls come in 4 pieces. Would definitely recommend getting rolls/hand rolls over sushi for a better fish to rice ratio! Standouts were: - Beef hibachi: unexpectedly super good!!! We ordered this 3 times. - Eel and avocado hand roll: large portions of eel and avocado, big fan. - Skinny girl, tokyo rolls. Pretty generous fish:rice ratio. I would come for the dinner AYCE over lunch; the lunch didn't include sashimi and seared sushi options. Overall the AYCE is a bit pricey for the quality but that is just my opinion!

    Seared salmon and beef nigiri

Solid ayce option inside the loop. Amazing sashimi and seared sushi options. The sashimi cut is a bit smaller but I didn't really mind as it prevented over ordering. I like that they have a spicy sashimi option where they place the chopped sashimi of choice over a slice of cucumber. It was refreshing. Seared salmon and beef sushi were also perfect. Really nice charred flavor on both. One thing this place does really well is their beef. I never have high expectations for beef at an ayce sushi place and they tend to be very tough. The beef yakitori here is to die for. Extremely soft and buttery. The beef for our seared beef nigiri and beef ramen was also pretty good. Highly recommend the yakitori though. Ramen was average. Too much sesame oil. But plenty of toppings (fish cake, egg, kani, mushroom, bamboo, and your choice of protein). Good if you want something warm. The only items that were disappointing are the rolls. They come only in half rolls which I don't really mind. However, unless you get the really basic rolls, their other specialty rolls are not great. Sauces are too much and too sweet, shrimp tempura thick and cold, rice a bit mushy. I'm especially not a fan of the spicy garlic sauce and sweet chili sauce that tastes exactly like egg roll sauce that they put over two of the rolls. Overall, none of the rolls really worked for me, which is kind of a bummer, but they still have great sashimi and nigiri options.

Pretty solid AYCE sushi! They have a parking lot, but not a lot of spots. Their options are what you would normally find at an AYCE sushi place. Everything tasted delicious! The service is great! Our server was very helpful and attentive. Definitely worth going. (Coconut shrimp was bomb)

Machi Sushi offers a huge wide range of items for Sushi & Japanese food lovers. They do not skim out on portion size and provide great tasting profile to the table. The services are very kind with providing help on ordering and brings out the food fairly quick. One of the best AYCE sushi in The Heights area with modern luxury ambiance providing a great friendly experience. Will definitely be back!

I WOULD SAY 3.5 STARS. The sashimi tasted fresh, good quality, I loved the amount of miso in the miso soup. I think everything was good except for the rolls. The texture on the rolls were off bc the rice was pretty mushy and like squished together. The seaweed on the hand rolls were soggy by the time they arrived to our table. I think I would go back for the sashimi and the nigiri, but it was a little far for me, and there was nothing particularly special to make me drive the distance for it. Service was pretty fast, but there weren't that many people there.

I went on a Friday night so dinner service was understandably slow and busy leading to our plates to be given sporadically either all at once or in between long waits. To best give them a chance at performance, consider visiting during lunch or earlier in the evening. Food quality left plenty to be desired. The sashimi quality especially did not reflect the starting dinner price point of $36 a person. Cuts were small and had a noticeable low quality taste. The fried appetizers, sushi rolls, and hand rolls were decent enough, but the fish quality really left a bad taste in our mouths, figuratively and literally. Overall, this restaurant is a good looking place to eat and sit in but doesn't excel at much more. For a newer AYCE sushi spot they may need to step it up to compare to the several that have done the same.

So we walked on over to this little speakeasy and were immediately greeted by the bouncer. On a Thursday night, it was quite crowded, but were able to find the last remaining seats at the bar. We were seated at the left end of the bar, which was nice because we had our own little "nook" away from the rest of the bar. Adjacent to us was the server station - the one server tending to the tables, Marilyn, frequently came by and we immediately befriended her. She gave us excellent recommendations and provided her opinion on several drinks. Robin was the bartender who took care of us throughout the night. She was super friendly from the moment we sat down and gave us stellar recommendations on food and drinks. She was happy to tweak a couple of their seasonal drinks to our liking, and even offered to mix other drinks that weren't on the menu. Fantastic service from Robin throughout the night. I started out with Tommy's Margarita - this was just their take on a classic margarita, nothing super special. I then ordered the Oaxacan Old Fashioned - think of an old fashioned made with tequila and mezcal in lieu of bourbon. I was a bit cautious about this one since I am not a fan of mezcal, however the smoky flavor was not very apparent in this one, which was a huge plus! I also got the Ardilla - very unique drink made with mexican corn whiskey, cocoa nibs, sherry, and a milk punch. I award this drink for most unique I've had in a while, definitely give it a try if you're up for something new. To finish, I had the Cariña - their take on an espresso martini made with reposado tequila. I really liked this espresso martini - it was a great way to finish out the night and I left feeling inspired to make my espresso martinis at home using tequila now! With the little room we had left in our stomachs, we tried the Pato Tinga Memela, which was duck leg (no bone) with beans and onions and cilantro atop a memela. I haven't had memela specifically per se, but consider me a fan. It is basically a mini "cake" of masa that is pan fried to a slight crispiness. An Oaxacan speciality, where else can I find these in Houston!? We also tried the Guacamole y Tostadas. The guacamole was unique in the sense that it was Oaxacan style, so contains pepitas, pickled onions, and queso fresco. The tostadas were super crispy and reminded me of how they serve guacamole in Mexico (rather than with chips/totopos). Fun fact is that this bar is owned by Goode Company. Next door to this is Goode Co. Cantina, so it's nice that they created an adjoining restaurant + speakeasy concept within the same strip. At one point in our visit, Levi Goode was standing next to us. We didn't know until after he left and Marilyn informed us, that that was THE man. Just doing a casual check-in of his bar. We really had a good experience at Bar Buena and look forward to returning. The food menu has quite a few offerings I wanted to try had I not come from a cooking class. We were also told that the seasonal drink menu was set to change shortly after our visit, so I look forward to trying these drinks!

Clarkwood really does know what they're doing with these espresso martinis! I loved the added touch of the burnt marshmallow on mine, and the coffee seemed pretty good quality too. The second time I visited I also enjoyed their spicy watermelon margarita. Also amazing. It tasted a little bit like a spicy jolly rancher? SO good! They also let us know that if we posted and tagged them on our instagram, that we could receive a free round of shots. So, of course, me and my two friends posted to get some shots too. We were able to try the Mexican candy shot, the raspberry lemon drop shot, and the mini matcha martini shot. Honestly all were really good, but my favorite in order were the 1) raspberry lemon drop shot, 2) Mexican candy shot, then 3) the matcha martini shot. The matcha martini was good but as it's creamier, I think having it as an actual martini than a shot is more appropriate. Still, it's a great way to try a new drink and just sip on it rather than taking it as a shot. Also - the venue is so elegant and charming and such a cute spot for a date night. The music was a littleeee loud for me considering it's such a small space, but that's okay. Either way, I loved Clarkwood and will be coming back again :)

$200 to Get Cancelled On: A Masterclass in Hospitality…read more We had reservations for the 6:00 p.m. cocktail tasting in the Arc Room and were required to pre-pay $200--because nothing says "relaxing evening" like a firm financial commitment. Naturally, if we hadn't shown, we would have been charged in full. However, when we arrived right on time, we were informed the event had been canceled. Apparently, a text was sent. Equally apparently, none of us received it--nor did at least three other couples standing there having the exact same delightful surprise. The double standard was...impressive. The hostess was apologetic but clearly overwhelmed and not exactly presentation-ready (stained shirt, visibly frazzled), which didn't inspire much confidence that this was an isolated hiccup. The proposed solution was to seat us in the bar--with the added charm of a strict "out by 8:00" timeline. A bold recovery strategy for canceling a prepaid experience at the last minute. We ordered the Clarkwood gin and tonic and a lychee martini--both recommended--along with a charcuterie board. Neither drink made it to the finish line. The martini leaned aggressively sweet, and the gin and tonic featured fruit-infused ice that sounded creative but tasted...confused. It also arrived in a shade of neon blue that felt less "craft cocktail" and more "science experiment." The charcuterie board was, somehow, the standout disappointment. The almonds were oily, the meat had those telltale dried edges of something that's been sitting out too long, and the accompaniments included what appeared to be Wheat Thins and plain animal crackers. It was an unexpectedly nostalgic trip to a child's snack drawer--just not one anyone asked for. Overall, this might pass as a novelty stop for a 21 run looking for something flashy, but between canceling prepaid reservations, questionable communication, and execution that missed the mark at every turn, it's difficult to find a compelling reason to return.

If the parking lot is full you should be able to find street parking nearby Kanpai Club is a sister location to Handos. They share a kitchen and you can walk through an inside door access either. You can find the same cocktails and bites from Handos on the Kanpai menu, but there's also additional drinks and bites The bar feels like a Japanese Izakaya. It's a narrow space resembling a Japanese outdoor bar. It's intimately lit and well decorated. We went on a Friday night (fairly late), and they had two dedicated bartenders The cocktails were fun and were beautifully crafted. Most were served in novelty glassware. You can order classic cocktails, but both Kanpai and Hando offer a variety of signature cocktails. Most having some sort of Japanese or Asian fusion. They have beer, wine, and extensive sake list, as well as green tea and other nonalcoholic options The cocktails were tasty. The only one I was iffy on was their Espresso martini. It was poured from a machine and I guess there were having issues with it. The presentation was phenomenal. There was a roasted marshmallow garnish. The drink itself was far too Smokey in flavor than I like, or at least in terms of my espresso martinis The Yuzu Kosho fries were incredible. The flavors really hit the spot. I was a little worried about the cocktail being overly banana-y but it wasn't at all. It was a fantastic drink. For my last call, he recommended the Left Hand ($13) with Bourbon, Campari, Sweet Vermouth and Chocolate Bitters. Again, fantastic. Both nights, the bartenders and drinks were fantastic. Ambiance is nice with moody lighting. They even have a bidet toilet seat in the bathroom! Hidden Bar is a "hidden" gem, for sure. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I ordered the Side to the Sun Rises (gin, yuzu, mint, cucumber) which was light, refreshing, and well balanced. I would recommend it if you enjoy gin-based cocktails with a slightly fruity flavor. My friends really enjoyed their drinks as well. They have all day happy hour on Sundays/Mondays. We did not get a chance to try the food, but the menu looked great. Overall, a fun spot with great vibes and definitely worth checking out!
