Carla and I had a wonderful dinner at Dolan Uyghur Restaurant in Rockville! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, from the refreshing Iced Dolan Chai and crispy Sigara Boregi to the hearty Uyghur Beef Stew served with naan. The Royal Laghman featured perfectly chewy hand-pulled noodles packed with flavor, and the Kawa Manta was a unique and delicious vegetarian dish. We ended the meal with the Pistachio Cake, which was the perfect sweet finish. The food, flavors, and variety made for a memorable dining experience, and we're already looking forward to coming back to try the Dolan Laghman, Mongolian Beef, Lamb Kebab, Whole Lamb Tandoor Kebab, and Honey Cake. We came back recently because we had a craving for their eggplant dish. Was a bit shocked by the price increase lately and the dish was $18 per order. It looked different than what we were expecting too. Seemed like things have changed since we last came here. The location is good. It is outside the busy busy area so it is more peaceful here. The decor is beautiful and I love just losing my train of thoughts to look at the lighting. Now, the food. We were a bit disappointed that the eggplant dish changed or the preparation of the dish changed. The flavor was not as penetrating into the eggplant. It was more so stir fried eggplant and then sauce poured around it. More similar to Chinese style eggplant dishes, but the sauce it noticeably thinner than expected. From ordering to pick up, everything seamless and one who took order and who checked me out were so friendly. We love love everything, korma chop of course a must order always, got that w/ beef, Mongolian beef, lamb kabob, dry pot and can't forget honey cake! I actually wanted Dubai choc cheesecake but they didn't have it. But now onto my dry pot, my disappointment was I only found 2 shrimps in it... plus side a lot of beef and meat/fishballs just not expected 2 shrimps for the big portion. Though it's very tasty, So maybe next time I'll order korma chop w/ shrimp instead to get more hehe. Wow, the interior looks so elegant and clean! The food is delicious. I really enjoyed the korma chop which tastes like a chewier udon stir fry (in a good way). I did mild spicy and it had a little kick. The beef noodle soup was more so on the bland side, so I probably wouldn't get it again. The Dubai magnolia was pretty good, but you can tell the katafi has been sitting since it isn't crispy. The service was also good. Our waiter came over a few times to check on us. I have been to the Dolan Uyghur in DC and loved it! I was excited to see that they opened up one in Rockville. The restaurant is really nice and bright. Filled with Turkish lamp chandeliers and beautiful ceramic plates around the restaurant. We were promptly seated. The service is slightly slow, but appreciative as the meal didn't feel rushed. The food, everything was delicious. I loved the samsa and korma chop very much. The royal laghman had long chewy noodles which were great. I was excited to try this fairly new business in Rockville. The menu looked exciting with a mix of Mediterranean, Indian, and Chinese influenced cuisines. I also like that there was a vegetarian section on the menu to make navigating the options as a vegan easier. I met up my friend for dinner there for girl's night. This business has the exact vibe we wanted for a girl's night on the town. I also want to come back for a date night. The interior decor is elevated with a beautiful chandelier. It is also pretty quiet inside so you can easily talk with a friend or date. I did see a small family dine in; however, I will keep my 2-year-old daughter at home for now. Our server was so sweet and attentive. She answered all my menu questions and helped us pick some vegan items to share. I saw rave reviews about the Dolan Chai, so my friend and I shared a pot of that. We also got dolma and spicy tofu. This tea was the best I ever had. It was sweet and a little floral. When you get the pot they will refill it with water as many times as you would like. My friend and I downed 2 pots of tea. It was the perfect complement to our meal, and I will most likely order it every time I visit. The dolma is vegan without modification and delicious! I love that the presentation was lovely with the lemon slices and bed of greens. The inside is filled with rice and was even a little creamy. The spicy tofu was incredible! We picked a mild spice level, and the savory flavors really came through. I saw previous reviews mentioning the food was bland. I highly recommend the spicy tofu if you want a punch of flavor. The sauce was so comforting, and I just about licked my plate clean. I would definitely order both of these menu items again; however, I also want to explore their other vegetarian dishes. Restaurant was beautifully decorated with deep blue walls and Silk Road style interior (lamp lights and decor). Staff was very welcoming. A nice dessert case was at the front near the door. Menu has many types of teas (didn't get this time). Food items had middle eastern and East Asian influences. Ordered samsas and lamb kebabs as appetizers to start. The samsas are flaky triangular pasties stuffed with ground beef and lamb. It was flavored very well. The lamb kebabs were very tender, juicy and had cumin and other spices detected. I had the spicy tofu entree and was able to have the spice level adjusted (milder side). Flavor was not compromised, very tasty with peppers, onions, red chili and garlic. Came for dinner Saturday evening. The restaurant is decorated very nicely, is bright and welcoming. My partner and I shared several items. The good news is that the Samsa was well prepared and very meaty. Delicious pastry. The Chuchura (dumpling soup) was good, also, with a number of mini and tasty dumplings. The broth had a nice flavor. The entrees were the weak spot for me. We ordered Baby Bok-Choy with Garlic Sauce. It was pleasant, with a garlicky sauce, but not particularly memorable. The Uyghur Pilaf was well prepared, in that the rice absorbed the flavor from the beef, but the beef itself was not particularly flavorful and, again, the entree was pleasant, but not memorable. Pretty bland. The Pilaf dish came with a fresh vegetable salad in vinegar that was the highlight of the meal. For $23.95, that should not have been the highlight of the meal. It is possible that we ordered the wrong things. What can you expect from a Bol Choy with Garlic Sauce? That being said, I did expect more flavor from the meat in the Uyghur Pilaf and the whole meal was pretty dependent on the rice. For food alone, I might give the place a 4 star review, although that would be kind based on our experience. BUT, our water glasses were empty almost the entirety of our meal, despite the Staff walking by the table several times. I did call them over for water once and then never saw them again until we had been sitting at the table with empty plates for a full 15 minutes and they walked by twice and I was able to get their attention the second time for the check (see picture). Overall, not great. While we were there, people were seated at the table next to us and they immediately asked what hot sauces the restaurant had to offer at the table. I thought that was odd until we are our food. We may come again and try other items, but not sure. read more

New Dolan Restaurant in Old Rockville Location I've enjoyed Dolan before at their Friendship Heights at a Yelp Event. It was a fun event with friend, this time I was flying solo at their soft opening at the Rockville Town Center, their latest location. It's beautifully decorated and designed with gorgeous hanging colored lamps, painted this rich Mediterranean blue. The tables are set with fine silver wear, folk, spoon and chopsticks. The staff are very friendly, cheerful and a little inexperienced but time will improve that tiny detail. I initially ordered a samsa (like an Indian samosa but made with beef), pulled noodles and a lamb kabob. I only wanted a very light meal. After 15-20 minutes they came out and asked me about the noodles. Would I like them to add meat and vegetables. I was agreeable, not realizing it was an up charge. It went from $11 noodles dish to a $19 dish, needless to say, I was surprised when I received the check. Please remove the noodles dish IF you aren't not prepared to served it "as is" and as listed in the menu. I wish them much success and prosperity, I'm sure that in time they will work out the rough edges and everything will go more smoothly. read more

Excellent food, service, ambience and location! If I could give this restaurant more stars, I would! This was my first time to this Rockville location and it was a real treat! (I had previously been to the Dolan Uyghur in DC.) We really enjoyed every appetizer and every dish - the cold skin noodles, lentil, soup, cucumber, salad, Uyghur pilaf with lamb shank, and Uyghur beef stew were stirring up my taste buds! We also loved the Uyghur tea, which was the most fragrant and special tea i've ever had! So nice to find out that you can actually purchase it and bring it home! An experience not to be missed! (Warning! You may not have the spiritual experience I did by coming here! Please pardon my gushing repetitiveness!) The new Uyghur restaurant experience I've eagerly awaited is finally here! Beautiful blue walls provide a calming environment in which you can feel perfectly secure to try new-to-you foods (or familiar ones!) with greatly attentive service. This particular beautiful, meaningful hue of specifically Uyghur blue envelops you so by the time you sit at your seat you are soothed, outer world edges smoothed, and you are able to enter the inner - of both Central Asia, and ... you! You may be seated on a chair or padded bench at a table, but ... while your body is here in modern Rockville, Maryland, your soul may be travelling along the Silk Road feeling itself to be seated much closer to the ground as well as to your own ancient ancestry. Well, that's how I felt here! I'd been so eager for this new Uyghur place to open I found myself peering into this space - or what I could see of the beautifully-adorned entryway, anyway -- a week before it opened, wondering what it would be like and now, I wonder no more, having experienced this most enchanting convergence of cultures in food and décor. Need I say more? Well, don't worry because I have plenty to say! The tea was remarkably tasty, served in a very modern device that still served as an appropriate vehicle for delivering ancient flavour to your waiting tongue. I found it harkened me back to a time before one for which I have words or images, just an ancient feeling and perhaps rhythm and movement of horses and riding, moving, sitting on a pillow in a tent -- having grown up near nomads I drank tea while sitting on a Moroccan pouf/ ottoman and this place reminded me of that. I like to celebrate everything I can, including holidays from around the world and in order to do that, I go to many restaurants for that purpose and I can say with absolute clarity and assuredness that this was by far my favourite of all the restaurants I have been to lately -- among them Italian, Japanese, New American, and Mexican and there is no doubt that this was my most comfortable experience. This restaurant, this culture is preserving so much of our common human heritage. This place is a great testament to a great culture! I highly recommend this place! Service was good, quick and attentive for the most part. All the dishes tasted fantastic, with the lamb and kawa gushnan being most popular amongst my companions. The portion sizes were pretty good as well for the five of us, and we were surprised by the size of the samsas. The only little issue was that the samsas were not heated through when they were served, but the server immediately took them back and the flavor was fantastic afterwards, (although they were maybe heated in a not completely dry setting like a microwave or something similar, as it wasn't as crispy as the original first bite). The desserts were very cute and tasted great (a bit too sweet, but very flavorful), and the waitresses were very eager to answer any questions we had. Generally a very pleasant experience! read more

Came in at 6pm on a Friday with a toddler and was seated immediately in a clean and well-furnished, nicely decorated space. We ordered the chicken pilaf with near-zero spiciness for our toddler, which they readily and effectively accommodated, and our toddler absolutely ate it up! As did my wife! I ordered the korma chop noodles with just veggies and extra spicy and it was very good. We also got the honey cake which was rich and moist and just the right way to top off the meal. All of the portions were generously sized, and the food came out very quickly for us and the other guests. By the end of our meal, there were lots of people in the restaurant, but it wasn't moist or crowded feeling. Very, very happy with this place and just want to flag it is totally chill and toddler friendly, both in terms of food options and physical accommodations and service! read more

We visited Dolan and the experience was exceptional. The food is insanely delicious, the combination of flavors is complex but precise, and the dishes arrived quickly. The waitress served us with a smile, explained the menu to us patiently, and we felt that she really wanted us to love every bite. The owner of the restaurant welcomed us warmly, talked to us, and proudly shared with us about the origins of the dishes, this created a homely and warm atmosphere that completed the culinary experience. It had the unfortunate texture and taste of being reheated, not freshly prepared. · Stewed Beef: Flavor was okay, but the portion was shockingly small for the price--felt like a side dish, not a main. · Green Tea: Essentially warm water with a hint of color--no aroma or flavor. Service: Our waitress seemed new and poorly trained. She didn't announce the dishes when serving, and only visited our table once in over two hours to ask "everything alright?". We had to request a refill for our tasteless tea ourselves. Verdict: With high prices and low execution on both food and service, I cannot recommend this experience. On March 14 we went to this restaurant and were next in line for a table. The waitress ignored us and seated the customers behind us first. I was a bit annoyed but assumed they were just busy and had forgotten. After we were seated, we told the waitress we were ready to order; she nodded and said she'd be right back. The same customer waved for her, and she served them before coming to our table. I tried to dismiss it as busyness, but I became very upset when that customer's entire table received their food before we had even gotten a drink or a single dish. I can't think of any explanation other than possible racial bias -- maybe they served the white customers first because we are Asian. If you're a person of color and want to avoid being treated differently, I recommend getting takeout or ordering online so staff can't judge you by your appearance or accent. read more

I was so excited to try this place but was a little disappointed. The food is good but not great It wasn't anything special. We got samsas, beef and vegetarian. They were good but small and pricey. They were out of egg noodles which is weird. How can a restaurant be out of a cold noodle dish? The place was dead at 5 pm. We got cold skin noodles instead. They were spicy and very oily. They were ok. Lamb kebab was flavorful and cook nicely. The chicken kabab was average. Korma Chop is stir fried udon noodles. It was meh. Piter Manta were good but pretty pricey for buns. There were 6. Value is a 2. Portions are small and service was slow considering the place was empty. Honey cake is $12 for a slice of cake. Way over priced. Great location, beautiful ambience, good crowds food is hit or miss. Grilled chicken and lamb is out of this world. Great texture and taste and not too dry. Potato is good as is the cucumber which have good cardamom and cumin flavoring. Korma noodle is a let down, considering that this should be their signature dish and there are better competitors right within 15 min walk. Noodle texture ok though not great. The taste is blend. Dolan Chai is decent not to sweet. Service is slow, especially on the grilled meats. 20 minutes after we ordered the personal tandoori lamb they said they ran out, which is too slow for notifying customers. Servers are doing their best though can tell they are still sorting things out. Kitchen seems understaffed. This is a really nice restaurant, I love the ambience. The rice was a little undercooked, but I think everything else is good and well seasoned. We arrived around 3 p.m last Tuesday. and were glad to find the restaurant still open (many places close for a lunch break at this time). As soon as we stepped inside, we were warmly welcomed by the servers and struck by the beautiful décor--it truly felt like a Uyghur restaurant back home in Ürümqi, complete with authentic cultural ornaments. We ordered our favorites: Dolan Leghmen and Chochore. The Chochore came out first, served with two bowls for sharing. I was impressed by how perfectly it was prepared--cooked just right and full of flavor. Then came the Leghmen. The noodles were thin yet tender, reminding me of the Leghmen I grew up with in Kashgar during the 1990s. Overall, the experience was wonderful: delicious food served in a fine dining setting, with an atmosphere that celebrates Uyghur culture. To top it off, we later learned that we could park in the garage and get our parking validated by the restaurant--a very convenient bonus. For lunch I had mouth-watering tender lamb kebab w/ Uyghur spices, we shared a plate of 6 tasty steamed buns w/ diced veggies inside including pumpkin & a yogurt-y sauce on side, & my friend had a very large Dolan salad w/ excellent vinaigrette. I enjoyed a mango yogurt drink (very light & refreshing). We split a large piece of raspberry layer cake, yummy & presented so well on a plate w/ cream & chocolate dollops in patterns. All portions quite generous. Large menu, not identical to what is shown online. Disappointed no Arlash Korma, but still more good choices that can eat in one visit.
