Dolce Bakery is one of my favorite spots for bakery items! I'm always greeted with smiles by staff members and the desserts are amazing.

Key lime cupcake was delightful. The oatmeal cookie sandwich with caramel sauce and cream filling?! I'd kill for it. So. Darn. Good. Everyone else has pretty much said it.. but of course I'll find a few more things to say. The carrot cake is.. near perfect. I wish the icing was about half as sweet, but the actually cake is INSANE good. It's packed with every good thing that exists. GET IT! I want a coat made of it for winter, so I can snack and be warm. It's dense and wonderful. The cookies we tried were also very good. They don't skimp on butter! The chocolate chip cookies are really perfect. The lemon bar was the tangiest most lemony bar I've ever tried. That's a good thing, but be warned, it is L E M O N! This is a very nice and classy place and the prices reflect it's location and nice décor. While it's a bit out of our way, and the prices are a bit steeper than some, I would absolutely come back. I love the area in KS that this bakery is in. The community is so friendly and active. The line for pre pick up was long but it is Mother's Day weekend! Dolce is a Prairie Village staple. For as close as I live, I don't visit often enough! However, I've been in a few times recently since they've added a full espresso and coffee menu! My first visit I wanted to try the gingersnap latte, but unfortunately they were out of the milk. I ended up getting a cookie milk latte (made with a milk from some of their cookies) and it was sooo delicious. Very creamy and great cookie flavor. That trip we also picked up a few pastries -- you can't go wrong with the cinnamon rolls or iced sugar cookies! My second trip this past month I was finally able to try the gingersnap latte! They finished making the milk after I had ordered, and the gal working at the counter was kind enough to tell me and switch my order! I really appreciated that, as I had heard amazing things about the latte. It's made with a milk made from their gingersnap cookies. It definitely has the flavor of ginger cookies - I only wish I had picked up a cookie to pair with it. Service is also fast and friendly when I've visited. Definitely recommend on the lattes if you have a chance. read more

I visit Dolce almost every month, whether it's for a random Friday/weekend treat or to pickup a box of pastries for friends, guests, the office. Dolce is my go-to for pastries for any event - I've ordered several cakes from them and dessert boxes/platters. Dolce's customer service, flavors, and pastry designs are beyond reproach! For my 30th birthday, Mary (the bakery's manager at the time), delivered my bday cake to my house for free! Just happened to stop in here today because we were in the area. What a great little gem! They were out of the ham and cheese croissants (darn! Means they are delicious!), so we got the butter croissants and an espresso torte to go. DE-licious! Both were amazing. Great little place and super nice folks. Small place. This place was recommended to me by an old classmate that I decided to try it out. I wanted to try it because I was looking at places to order sugar cookies for a baby shower and gotta taste the goods to make my decision, ya know? They have a lot of bakery items from cinnamon rolls, scones, croissants, cake, cupcakes, whoopie pies, etc. Their sweets are really rich and if you really have a sweet tooth, then you'll enjoy this place. I'm not used to sweets being so sweet that it feels like you're on a sugar high. I started coming here once a week to try more of their bakery items and my favorites from them are their regular croissants and ham and cheese croissants. Some of their bakery items can really last a long time, for example I bought a pumpkin spice cake slice and it was still moist 6 days later cause lol it was so rich, I could only handle 1-2 bites a day after my dinner. But at the same time, I'm not sure if their sugar cookies last that long. The first time I bought them, they were the pumpkin spice themed ones and they seemed to taste fresh and still tasted decent couple of days later. But then the next week, they had engagement party themed sugar cookies and they were harder and didn't taste as well. Maybe my taste buds were off, but I think I've had my fair share of their sugar cookies for now. If you really like sweet bakery items, then you'll enjoy their goods here. The service is really friendly and welcoming too! They are patient as you decide what to get and don't rush you at all. A cute little dessert shop located in the quaint neighborhood shops of Prairie Village. This little dessert shop is a hidden gem! I came here for fun with my cousins to taste test desserts aka "to satisfy my sweet tooth." We ordered the lemon meringue chiffon cake, lemon bar, lemon poppyseed scone, chocolate orange scone, chocolate cranberry oatmeal raisin cookie, peanut butter cookie, cherry almond biscotti, chocolate espresso torte, and cinnamon roll. Out of all 9 desserts, my top 4 choices (in order) were the cherry almond biscotti, cinnamon roll (which is what they're known for as quoted by the employee), lemon poppyseed scone, and chocolate cranberry oatmeal raisin cookie. Desserts and pastries at this shop are baked fresh daily, and you could really tell, it tastes fresh! The cinnamon roll was fluffy, sweet, and cinnamony - each bite takes you to a homey, warm, and safe environment. The biscotti was crumbly - cookie/bread like. Slightly sweet with light notes of almonds and cherry in it. The lemon poppyseed scone was to die for!! Light, buttery, and flaky with a light tarte lemony taste. The chocolate cranberry oatmeal cookie was well balanced with flavors of chocolate and berries. Overall, a wonderful dessert experience. My sweet tooth was definitely satisfied from this place. The goodies here just that, oh so good! The flavors are wonderful, the smells are great, and everything is baked to perfection with just the right amount of the moisture and solidness (whatever keeps moist cakes from crumbling, lol). I highly recommend this place. Seriously, highly recommended. I have had the cinnamon rolls (catch it during bogo), the salted caramel cake, the red velvet, the carrot pecan praline, the chocolate blackout, and a my daughter gets the mini cupcakes. So, why did they not get 5 stars? Well I placed a order for several of there 4 in cakes and verified by phone that the website was correct that the cakes feed 3-4 people. When I arrived, the box seemed so small, so I said hey, are these the cakes for 3-4? The staff person said, "these are cakes for 2." Of course I was like huh? I ordered the cakes for 3-4 (I ordered 4 different cakes). I wanted everyone to be able to sample the different flavors that they offered. She reiterated that these were for 2 people and that it could feed 3 but to get four slices would be very small pieces. I was upset, or course, but I had no other choice (I had prepaid). Needless to say I was able to make it work. However, I would suggest that they clarify that the cake for two either is the same for 3-4, or that they are different, in which case I overpaid. I really want to give them more stars because the food is good and staff friendly, but I cannot due to the inaccuracy of the advertising as well as the statements from staff. read more

We came on a Sunday morning (they will be closed Sundays and open Mondays after Oct.15) and they still had a great selection although by the time we left it was pretty wiped out. And now I know why. Everything we had was so fresh and delicious. Service was eager and friendly. They seem to carry standard items then some seasonal. Currently they have orange rolls and pecan rolls along with cinnamon rolls. Then they have sweet potato scones with their standard chocolate orange, cranberry orange and blueberry. Then of course they have cakes, cookies, bars, biscotti and more! We had the sweet potato scone, chocolate orange scone and a cran/raspberry bar. The sweet potato scone was amazing with lots of sweet potato throughout. The orange and chocolate scone had a lot of orange flavor and the chocolate chunks were smooth and melted in your mouth. Both scones had a softer texture more like a muffin. They were wonderful just not as dense as most are. The bar was cold and firm. The topping was soft and the filling was packed with flavor, not a sugary concoction. They have hot coffee and tea available currently. In the summer months they have iced coffee and iced tea. There is nothing fancy about the selection, one decaf and one regular. Given this is a bakery and not a coffee shop nor do they claim to have wonderful coffee I couldn't knock them for it. Besides my black coffee was smooth and delicious. Better than I can do at home. We did notice a lot of people with Starbucks cups so if you must stop there first then get your delicious goodies. read more

I recently moved to KC, so when I needed to get a cake for my boyfriend's birthday, I had no idea where to go. I did a google search for "best bakery in Kansas City" and Dolce was one of the first places to pop up- I decided to go with them and I'm SO GLAD I did. I chose the raspberry cream cake, and even though there were only four of us, I chose the 9 inch round so there would be plenty left over. Hands down- the BEST cake I've ever had in my life. My husband and I started our wedding consultation with a cake tasting at the bakery and we spent a solid hour going over flavors, design and how many tiers we wanted. The Dolce team has been nothing but kind and quick to respond to all of my emails. The cake tasted absolutely amazing and the design was perfection. My boyfriend went out of his way to find a personal, 4 layer cake--and ended up at Dolce. When he revealed the cake, he immediately tried to explain what he wanted--a tropical palm, my name--white wedding cake, real icing--easy peasy, right? I did my best to hide my disappointment, while thinking this ugly-ass cake better be the bomb-diggity on the inside. Uhmmm, yeah--No. The inside was dry, dense, and flavorless. The icing was delish, but not enough to save the cake or occasion. I told my boyfriend he should've left the cake on their counter and found something edible (at 1/2 the price) at Price Chopper. Based on this cake, I'm not sure how this bakery maintains its stars/high ratings. Nevertheless, I reached out to the operations manager, who politely apologized, admitted she knew what went wrong, and assured me "the problem was taken care of." Was this "problem" a person? Someone pretending to be a cake decorator? The manager did refund the cake, but that didn't negate my disappointment at having the ugliest, driest, most inedible birthday cake ever. I have to give a shout out to this place for having hands-down, the best carrot cake in Kansas City. I recently went on a quest to find the best one. I tried all of the usual places... J Alexanders, the Bristol, Jacks Stack, Beethoven's in Paola... While they all have excellent options, I have to say that Dolce wins my vote! It was perfect in every single way! Called on a short notice to have a custom cake made. Only had two days before I needed it picked up and they made accommodations. It was Game Of Thrones Inspired. Had a dragon scale effect and GOT lettering. I had a coworker bring some of the scones a while back to work and they were to die for. I came on this particular day because it was Valentine's Day and I wanted to give my mom a gluten free baked good that didn't test gluten free. One important thing to remember when buying baked goods that are supposedly gluten free and the baked good isn't in individual wrapping would be ensuring it isn't the same display case as any other baked good that isn't gluten free. My mom has a severe case of celiacs and any cross contamination will make her sick. When mom isn't happy or sick than no one is allowed to be well....Dolce isn't cheap but the baked goods are worth the price. Their gluten-free goodies are made at a certified gluten-free bakery, they look delicious, gluten-free items are kept in a separate display case, the employees put on a new pair of gloves which meant no cross contamination, and lastly my mom gave me a stamp of approval for tasting delicious. I will definitely come again to buy gluten-free and non gluten-free goodies for any occasion. read more

Dolce had only a few reviews but seemed legit so I phoned in an order for half dozen peanut butter chocolate cupcakes to be pick-up in a few days for her birthday. The day arrived and I picked up the cupcakes without a problem and the shop was very clean, modern and nice. Where I was slightly disappointed was in the cupcake themselves. The cake didn't even reach the top of the paper wrapper. The peanut butter cream on top looked nice and tasted good but was nothing spectacular. The chocolate cake seemed like standard Betty Cocker straight from the box. My wife liked them but only because I gave them to her for her birthday and she wouldn't tell me otherwise. I was hoping for more of a "shock and awe" but I could have received the same reaction by making these myself and would have saved about $10. read more

The rolls were probably made in the morning but they had obviously been sitting out all day and by afternoon they were just stale, not good. I've had thousands of red velvet cupcakes and this one I would never remember because it was so average. Actually everything there was very average and I would not remember anything I got from there because simply nothing stood out. Oh, I almost forgot. I stop here almost every single time I am in the area. It is a MUST on my list (and it should be for you too). This new location is great, even more inviting than the last spot was! I have not met a baked good here that I didn't like, but some of my top favorites include: carrot cake, lemon cake, chocolate blackout cake (are you seeing a trend yet?), macaroons, lemon bars, zebra brownies, cinnamon rolls and any of the seasonal roll flavors, and snickerdoodle cookies!! I like that they use simple, fresh ingredients, and that everything is made from scratch. No mixes here! The cakes are the most delicious I have ever shoved in my face. Most of the time, I don't even bother with the individual slices, I just buy one of the small cakes from the case. If you are going to a small dinner party, they are the perfect size to share (or, if you had a rough day, just tear straight into that sucker with a fork, don't feel bad about it). One time for my birthday I got some sort of a chocolate cake with salted caramel cream cheese frosting and salted caramel drizzled on top and in between the layers. I'm not going to lie, I have had dreams about that cake ever since. The cinnamon rolls and orange rolls are perfect every single time. Never dried out or crusty like a lot of places. They also always have some type of a seasonal offering for the rolls as well, lemon blueberry is my fave in the summer. The bars, brownies and cookies are always awesome, my husband can't get enough of the snickerdoodles. And the macaroons...don't even get me started. Long story short, if there are multiple things that look good to you when you are there, just get it all, because something might only be seasonal, or there for a limited time. If you think you will get it next time, you will be hella disappointed when you come in and they don't have it. Just save yourself that disappointment, trust me. Oh, one last thing I almost forgot, they make croissants on the weekend. They have some with ham and cheese in them. If you are there and they have some, GET THEM! Because they run out of them pretty quick. I've met the owner, Erin, a few times before and she is super nice and great to work with if you need a special order. You can tell that she puts a lot of heart into every single item that is in that case. If you have something special in mind that you need, just ask, they have been very accommodating for me whenever I needed something special for an event. I got here in the early afternoon, around 1:30 p.m., on a Sunday and, as you can expect, the supply was limited -- suggest getting here early, before 9 a.m., if you want to get any of their popular cakes/desserts. The chocolate chip espresso cookie was fantastic, avid coffee drinker and the espresso was tasteful but subtly so, not overwhelming, and the chocolate complimented it well. The blueberry pie bar, fan of these, was just mediocre. A bit too dry and not enough lemon zest to give it that nice tartness. I like to spoil my dog, so it was nice that they offered homemade dog treats for $0.50 and my dog seemed to enjoy it too. The lady at the counter was helpful and gave me the background of the bakery, since it was my first time, and some suggestions based off what I told her I liked. Quite a few people picked cakes while I was waiting, so a good indication that their cakes may be delicious, they looked as so.
