One of my favorite spots in the area for breakfast. Usually go there every weekend for a Hangover Cure breakfast sandwich, which is absolutely fantastic. Bacon is very good and spicy sausage is tasty! The price is really what makes this place great because it is under 5 dollars for a good sized sandwich, and the cashier and cooks are always super friendly. The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars is that about a year ago, my roommate went in seeking employment from this establishment. He was told by staff that they do not hire men, which I thought was totally unacceptable and illegal in fact. About a few days after that incident, I went there to get a sandwich and noticed men working there. I didn't like that too much, but regardless of that the food and coffee are very good. read more

This used to be my favorite breakfast/lunch place when I lived in Brighton. The woman who runs it (not sure if she's the owner) is so friendly and you can tell she really cares about the place. The food is made right in front of you so it's very fresh. Ny favorite is the egg and cheese on a bagel - simple but surprisingly delicious. The coffee is good too. This is a great little cafe and perfect for the area it's in. I can't recommend the breakfast sandwiches enough and the coffee tastes freshly brewed not old and stale. The owner is a very nice lady and the customer service is incredibly welcoming. Food is cooked fresh, always nicely seasoned and tastes great. The dining area is clean and service is prompt even if you come during the weekend when it is typically quite bustling. Nice to have a cafe with great food and coffee right across the street in a location that desperately needed something like it. Not too sure what some of the negative reviews here are grumbling about, perhaps they are a bit dated. Looking forward to many more visits. read more

This place is my go-to coffee shop in the morning. Better coffee and prices than any Dunkin or Starbucks in the area. The breakfast sandwiches are well made (and cooked right there so they're warm and not microwaved or anything) and the service is great. Free wifi and a nice place to sit and do homework or whatever. Food and coffee is fine, but the men behind the register made me feel so uncomfortable. They were having a very loud and unfiltered conversation about Trump, referring to Hilary Clinton as a "war criminal." The only other employee on staff was a woman of color who said nothing, and I felt so bad for her to have to work with them all day long. I know I can't guess her political preference but even just having that conversation at their place of work on the clock in front of costumers is so unprofessional and inappropriate. read more

I was quite hopeful that this place would be a gem. The area could really use a solid cafe for a decent lunch or breakfast. Unfortunately, the sandwich I got yesterday was more akin to a school cafeteria lunch. I ordered a turkey and bacon sandwich on wheat with cucumber, dijon mustard, and cheddar cheese. What I received was low quality turkey, cheddar cheese that was a step above "american cheese", yellow mustard, and no cucumbers (the bacon was bacon, you can't mess that up). I informed them that I did not receive cucumbers and that the mustard was yellow mustard, not the requested dijon. They were apologetic, gave me cucumbers, and confirmed that they did not have dijon mustard (they thought the yellow mustard was dijon). My friend's roast beef was not much better. The meat was that brown/gray beef that just isn't appealing. The sandwiches were truly mediocre. My friend also ordered an eclair, which was clearly fresh out of the package (along with the devil dogs in the display case, nothing wrong with that though). Somehow this wasn't very good either. I hate to pile on to a new place in the neighborhood. The staff was friendly and the decor was nice, but I don't go out for those things, I go out to eat. I must also say that I did not try any breakfast items and I don't drink coffee so I cannot comment on what I imagine is their primary output. I hope that they can replace menu items with fresh ingredients and good bread, as I would really like them to succeed. read more

The owner of Dolce Vita, Marilda, runs a tight ship: she and her employees are incredibly kind, and make an effort to learn every customer's name. Food is delicious, fast, and made fresh on the spot. Finally... a breakfast place close to my apartment... too bad it sucks! I would give them negative stars if I could. I got an iced coffee and an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich. I had to ask them to remake the iced coffee because it was EXTREMELY watery and tasted odd. They told me I must be used to drinking expresso because they had double brewed it and claimed it was strong. I think I would know if I was drinking expresso... I definitely do not like expresso. They finally agreed to make me another cup... this one was still extremely weak and tasted like what I imagine toilet water to taste like. The breakfast sandwich was seriously worse than something I would expect to get at McDonald's... the croissant and cheese were very sticky... got stuck to my teeth. I was running late for work and didn't have any more time to waste here. Had I had more time I would have demanded they refund my credit card. Instead, I left and threw out the remainder of the coffee and sandwich. About 15 minutes later I started to feel ill and felt so for the rest of the day. I won't go into details with that but I was not well the entire day as a result of this disgusting meal. read more

I love this place. Its perfect for the Brighton/Allston area. All these people are complaining its not "gourmet"... you live in Brighton. Nothing is gourmet around here, go move to the north end. The owner is the nicest woman ever, she's wicked quick. The breakfast sandwiches are delicious. Eggs are cooked on the grill- no microwave. The iced coffee is 10 times better than dunkin donuts or starbucks. I give this place 5 stars for their service as well as their food/coffee. Again remember the area you live in and stop thinking you live in some high end area where there would be a gourmet coffee shop. Get real people. read more

I've only gone here for breakfast and I gotta say it's great. The way the owner and employee move around, smile and give each customer their attention really make you feel good about coming here. Doesn't hurt that the food is delicious and the quality shows. Good choice of bagels, pastries, breads, cream cheeses and flavored coffees. The coffees don't just taste like they put some sugary syrup in them, they have a nice flavor that isn't too overpowering. I get the egg and cheese a lot and absolutely recommend trying Dolce Vita. This neighborhood cafe has good food (try the breakfast sandwiches) and great staff. When I moved into the area last year I tried this place out once or twice. The owner recognizing I was new gave me free samples the first couple times. It's family run, and you don't get that sort of service now at the chains. Should I begin with the reasonable prices or the excellent food? Typically, I'm pretty picky when it comes to breakfast food, as I'm a pretty good cook, making something at home is way cheaper, and there are plenty of good options in this area. Terrible. Save your money and go to dunkin donuts. I always like to try small mom and pop coffee shops but this was not worth it. Got an iced coffee and went to pay with card, 4 dollar minimum. Okay what else, i wasnt hungry but the guy talked me into a bagel, everything. It wasnt good. The best part was the cream cheese and that was it. Coffee was weak and flavorless. I also drink coffee black as i am somewhat of a coffee lover but it was almost inedible. Again try somewhere else im sure there are other coffee shops in the area. read more

I really wanted to like this place but after today, I know I will not be returning. I often walk by on my walks and have never gone in. But since today is my sister's birthday, I decided to give it a try and treat her to some baked goods. I ordered a blueberry muffin and chocolate croissant - pretty pricey at $6.15 but okay I guess if it was tasty. The blueberry muffin tasted like there was lemon in it (also dry and not enough blueberries) and the croissant was not flaky and tasted somewhat stale. I brought home one of their take out menus and saw that the muffin and croissant were priced at $2.00 each! I usually let things slide but decided to call them and inform them that I was overcharged. The person on the phone confirmed that I was charged the correct price. When I mentioned that the take out menu had the items at $2/ea she said that the menu was 5 years old!! Unbelievable! If you can't have updated menus or manually correct the prices, trash those very old outdated menus!! Why confuse your customers? And this is false advertising! This is really too bad. I would've love to have a local place to go to for good pastries. You're better off driving the additional 5-7 minutes and head to Clear Flour (they are on Brighton/Brookline line). They have exceptional breads and very good baked goods. read more
