I rented a car here on my last trip to El Paso. Getting my vehicle was fast. It was clean with a full tank and ready to go once assigned. Returning the car was easy, just took a few minutes. Remember your receipt when you refill your gas before you return it. The rates were rather high, so I only rented a car for the weekend dates of my trip. I did the lock and low rental to where I was guaranteed a vehicle between a compact or larger. I was given a Hyundai Accent. Military members are supposed to be upgraded one class (shown on their website). They told me it was a discounted 50% upgrade fee in person. I didn't do it, not worth it. read more

Called to confirm- guaranteed they would be open 2 hours past if I provided my flight info- not a sole in sight 30 mins past closing - no chance of getting a car even though they assured me this morning it wouldn't be a problem. read more

Dollar Rent A Car at El Paso International Airport offers good prices and newer model vehicles, which is always a plus. The big problem is the staffing--or lack of it. If you return a car after 9pm, there's rarely anyone at the desk, which means your car doesn't get checked in right away. More than once, I've been charged for an extra day because of this, and I know I'm not the only one. It's a headache for customers and needs to be fixed. Just double-check your return time and your bill, or be prepared to chase down customer service. read more

I rented from Dollar at the Buffalo/Niagara airport and was hit with a $139.95 toll fee I never agreed to. The transponder was already activated when I got in the car, with no clear disclosure that it would trigger an all-inclusive fee. I was never given the opportunity to opt in or out at the rental desk. When I complained, Dollar offered to reduce the charge by 50%, but that isn't the point. This is deceptive and unethical business practice. Beware of Plate Pass and these hidden toll fees if you rent from Dollar/Thrifty/Hertz. They are all owned by the Hertz Corporation. read more

Charged us extra and there is no customer service to explain why. When I called them to 877-433-6641 the agent tried to get me to pay an additional amount to receive a refund for the extra money that was charged to my credit card. When I asked why I have to pay to receive a refund he hung up on me. When I dialed the number again the new agent told me a had the wrong number. They tried to scam me out of more money. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!! I cannot believe this company would allow a reservation to be made when they close at 11:00 pm, and flights arrive at 11:00 pm, or later. We landed and the supervisor saw me in the parking lot and turned away and walked. My destination was 45 miles. North of El Paso, Texas so I had to scurry and find a ride nearly at midnight. Our flight from Dallas, Texas to El Paso, Texas was delayed and they know this! NO ONE CARED!!!! It was around 11:54 pm when we landed. I would expect that if a car is rented, and I've confirmed my reservation the day of, someone would stick around and wait for me to collect my rental. I just can't believe that no one at Dollar Rental cared they leave people stranded. I will let everyone know what happened with my rental. I will also post on every social media thread I can let others know about this horrible company who doesn't give a darn about service. read more

Patience if you want to rent here. First you have to walk to the rental garage. No problem. Then you have to wait in line at the Hertz rental booth? There were ten people in line when I got there with one attendant. They have to provide better service then this. read more

Rude employee at the inside counter, pleasant at least outside, serious bait and switch wrt cars, ridiculous add ons (want 13 a day for spouse to drive when the entire car rental world lets spouses drive). If I could give them negative stars I would. I made a reservation for a car for 1 week while I was visiting El Paso. Upon arrival I waited for 10 minutes before an employee walked up to the counter to assist me. I wasn't sure the requirements for instance for this company so I took extra precaution and printed out my insurance card. Check in went well- she asked if I would like the $60 coverage on my car and I explained my person insurance covered rentals, so I didn't need any coverage. My quote for the week was $240. (Which is high- but all rental rates are about that in the city of El Paso) Fast forward to my car return- I am presented with a receipt for $450 dollars for my rental. Shocked I asked why I was charged $30 extra insurance a day when I declined all coverages. The parking lot attendant explained that if I wanted to argue any charges I would need to go inside to front desk. Being the week before Christmas, the line was really long and I would miss my flight before I ever made it to the CSR. I decided I would call customer service at a later date. Fast forward to February- after my first phone call in January with dollar rentals national customer service center- I was told this was an issue I would have to take up with the El Paso location specifically. 2 months and 5 phone calls and 1 certified letter later I haven't received a single call or acknowledgement of my complaint. I have had to file a dispute with my credit card company and they are having to handle the complaint now. To say I am displease is an understatement. It's March and I still haven't heard a word from the Dollar Rental in El Paso. read more

I am denied the car at the location and customer service told me they would refund the whole amount. It's been two weeks and no money. I desperately need that money. Bait and switch. Highly recommend you find another car rental company. Went online and paid to rent a car for five days. Once I arrived to pick the car up, I was met with a surprise: $79 more to cover fees they "forgot" to tell me about -- another 44% in hidden fees. We rented a vehicle during our vacation (March 17th - 22nd). We returned the vehicle on the 22nd around 10am. The place was a disaster. The return area was backed up due to someone leaving a parked car and no keys. We have to leave the rental car right in front of the gate area (where you enter and drop off). My husband walked into that area and a lady (employee) told him the situation and asked us to leave the car where it was, with the keys. We did as told, we had a flight to catch. Today, April 3rd, I receive a letter stating the car was not returned and seriously overdue. This is completely incorrect!! I'm sure the area is full of cameras and will show we dropped it off and went into the airport. I've had to waste my time calling around to get this corrected and after I finally got someone, I was told to call tomorrow morning. This is absolutely unacceptable and will never rent from Dollar or their affiliates. read more

Traveled with daughter who rented this car, with me as authorized driver. The good part is you dont need walk to Hertz booth if you have your reservation - just go right to your car, if you can find it - they provide the section it is parked in. Easy and quick to get out, if can find way out of airport due to construction. Check in was quick, however, after getting inside airport I realized I left my RX sunglasses (visually impaired and color blind) in drivers side door pocket. Going back to garage, talked with gate addendant, as car was already gone - who eventually talked with Manager. Filed lost item report - including the car lic plate number, and where glasses were left not 20 min before. Bottom line, told car was rerented (was not in garage) and 10 days later still no sign of glasses. As pro photographer, these are essential for me to work and reordering them will take 6+weeks. Not Happy! These expensive glasses worthless to anyone else. The color blind correction adds $400 to the R X price and these are not easy to come by. read more

I made a reservation about 3 month's ago. I have called them more than 10 times in this 3 months and no answer or call back left about 5 voice messages and nothing. I'm about to fly to El paso and need to know if they provide a car seat for my baby and if I have to pay extra and the amount. I guess I'm gonna have to deal with it when I get there. I'm hoping their customer service doesn't suck as much in person than over the phone. Editing: the day I picked up the car they were very nice. Do not rent a car with them, ever. They slap you with hidden fees and the customer service is some of the worst I've ever experienced in my life. My fiancé and I have been on the phone with them for a solid hour and a half now and all because we wanted to modify our reservation by dropping it off an hour later than we had originally booked for. We called the help number given in the email and we were directed to the reservation modification service team - seems straight forward enough. They told us that our reservation was not complete so they couldn't make any changes to it. Confused we asked why it was considered incomplete - did we mess up on something? "As much as I would like to tell you, I can't." Okay why can't you tell us when we've confirmed our reservation number and we just are asking for clarification on what you mean? She said you need to talk to our contract team - let me transfer you. Long story short, after being transferred back and forth between these two lines for an hour and a half and explaining our story anew each time, no one was willing to help us. We asked to speak with management and were simply transferred to another person. We asked them are you a manager and they said no. So we were lied to multiple times as well. Once we did speak to a manager they said we need to physically go to the counter at the airport and talk to them. Okay but we're two hours away from the airport (hence us getting the rental car). They said that is not their problem. I said it is your problem because this is the customer service line and you guys are not upholding your terms of service. He said well you are the one trying to return the car late. It was just such a rude thing to say when we really did our best to be patient. No one would give us their direct extensions so we couldn't even call them back to let them know what was going on. It just felt like they wanted to get us off the phone as quickly as possible. Also they charge you an additional $200 at the time of pickup for "insurance" reasons. That's fine but put that on your website so that's it's noticeable when you are booking. We had to go searching for that info. I really cannot say enough bad things about this place. I will definitely be calling the BBB but please don't make my mistake and book with this company. read more

Ive made a reservation on August 1st for the 12th...ive paid 66% percent of it and it states i owe the rest at the counter...i printed the page where it states this with a booking number...i waited a day and didnt receive an email confirming this so i called...the first lady from india took awhile and kept telling me that they had no info...they kept telling me i rented through a third party which is a straight up lie...after arguing with her and telling her i wanted to speak to her manager a dozen times i finally got another indian woman who i could finally kinda understand...she gave me my confirmation number and told me that everything was ok and will send an email...its now nearly a week and i still havent gotten an email...and the confirmation number shows there is no such rental...ive used hertz and enterprise and never had this problem...gonna try again and will update once (if) i get my car... read more

Arguably the worst customer service (yeah, right) experience of my life. There was some confusion over my reservation (booked weeks in advance) but that wasn't the issue. The problem was the snarky, unhelpful, belligerent attitude of the young man behind the counter. A simple, "lets see what we can do to make this right" (they had altered the reservation without my consent) would have made things fine, but I continued to be treated with disdain by this obnoxious employee who refused to look for alternate means to satisfy my reservation. Should be no stars! While I did not detect any problems with people working here, I am having major problems now with the collections department! Upon returning from an overseas military deployment, I rented a car to get to the Armed Forces YMCA Lodge, and get established at my new duty station. The next morning, having driven the 5 miles from the airport to the Lodge, I noticed that one tire was low. Since I had my family with me (two small children) I didn't want to risk anything, so I took the car back, noted the low tire, and was allowed to exchange it for another car with no problems, or so I thought. Now, three months later, the collections department sent me an email saying that all other attempts to collect from me have failed (this is the first time I heard about it), and they are demanding immediate payment. They want $160 from me, presumably for the cost of the tire. Nothing at all was said when I turned the second car in, without incident. Only months later are they trying to gouge me. I did nothing except notice a low tire. They are crooks and thieves. They know that $160 is too little for me to go to court over, or protest to my insurance company. Dollar Rent-a-car is a disreputable company who are scamming a serving Marine and his family. DO NOT RENT FROM DOLLAR! You have been warned. read more
