Called the store to check if they had a balloon in stock for my nephews birthday as I went to 2 other dollar trees and they were out of stock. Spoke to a very kind representative on the phone. The rep I talked to on the phone is the only reason this review has any stars. When i got to the store, I stood in line as the balloons i needed were not one that I saw was already blown up. The cashier, DENISE, gave a strange look, to which i explained I was purchasing balloons. She said "do you see it. is it blown up?". To which i responded "I just seen it was in stock, i called your store". She says "go and grab it then". I told her "it's not already blown up, but I called and you have it in stock". She then proceeds to give me a dirty look and respond through an unserious scoff, saying "Is that not what I just asked you." Genuinely appalled by the lack of warmth and rudeness that came from the worker. There were other customers around and I was beyond shocked someone would treat another person that way, let alone a customer. I've worked in customer service for 6+ years and it seems like she shouldn't be working in a position that has to work with customers. read more

No receipts offered with gift cards. I asked before purchasing and was told i would receive them with the receipt. Then the cashier said, "oh we don't give those". Won't be buying gift cards again! Cashier with white hair was not helpful or even somewhat rude by helping next customer rather than answering my questions regarding this. read more

Incredibly rude staff. From the moment we walked in we heard cussing and yelling and one of the women talking about how drunk she got the night before. One of their names was April. It was a very uncomfortable experience and completely unacceptable behavior from the staff. All three women working the Thursday night shift on April 6th 2023 we're outlandish and inexplicably unprofessional. There were children in the store as well. F bombs flying from their mouths almost every other word. We love the store but this was outrageous. read more

Can you believe everything here is a dollar!? Of course since this is a dollar store you will not have the highest quality products, but I've been here quite a few times to pick up cheap gift bags and tissue paper for presents, water bottles and candy for a bachlorette party and mugs for a wedding shower. I don't recommend getting food here because you'll find it cheaper at the store with a coupon, but there's so many amazing things to pick up, you'll forget how cheap the bill will be at the end!! Love the dollar tree chain, but felt super uncomfortable thanks to the staff at this location. I came in before closing with plenty of time to buy the two items I was coming in for, but an employee was locking the door at 8:50. She said "ma'am we're closing in five minutes." I said "okay." She asked, "so are you going to be fast?" I told her I'd be super fast. She replied, "okay, be super fast." Then, since she was still in the doorway, I had to walk right past her with her mask around her chin. I've worked in grocery stores and fast food for ten years. I know that you want to go home. It's no excuse for being just plain rude. I left within five minutes but had to wait at the door for her to come back and unlock it to let me out. Just, like, do better. read more

A little known fact about Dollar Stores... *BEST price (uh, $1) for balloon weights. Yep, balloon weights can cost almost $3 at Party City, et al...but the exact same product is $1 here. And they are often pretty, and do the trick for an event or party. 20 white balloon weights = $20. 4 spools of ribbon = $4 -------------------------------------------- Balloon centerpieces...VOILA! This particular Dollar Tree is just dandy. Very clean and well organized...and well, everything's a buckaroo. If nothing else, I've just saved you many dollars on balloon weights. I am a self-proclaimed 'Dollar Tree' aficionado - this chain is by far the most comprehensive and far-reaching of its kind. I'll speak, in this case, directly to this specific store. The Dollar Tree wedged in the corner of this strip mall is far more delightful than its somewhat bleak exterior would have you believe. In fact, it's the largest Dollar Tree I've come across in the 5+ states I've sought them out. There is a huge section devoted to seasonal items when you immediately enter. When I visited, this included a pantheon of holiday candies, bows, ornaments, glitter, table pieces, cards, and more ornaments - ornaments everywhere! The selection was massive and in my opinion, the products were of reasonable, if not better, quality. Despite the bustling atmosphere within the store, the supplies were orderly and stocked. The floor was clean and clear, unobstructed by fallen knickknacks. A nice thing about Dollar Trees in general are their similar, even shared, layout(s). Once you've explored one, you can quickly navigate almost any of them and find what you need without much of a hitch. I could go into depth about what you can find here, but suffice to say, that would require a full page of its own. However, not all Dollar Trees have the same depth and variety of supplies. This store definitely did - there were so many aisles, each with so many options of so many types of different products that I felt even overwhelmed. I even felt a bit distracted, which made it harder to find some of my items - I'm not sure if that's a plus, or a minus. I was in somewhat of a rush, but wish I had more time to explore, because as I stopped in each aisle and gave it the 'once-over,' I found it had products I hadn't seen in my own local stores (I currently live outside of Charlotte, NC). To summarize, the store has a wide selection of high quality goods - ALL FOR $1 [or less] - unlike many other stores, who seem to falsely advertise. The aisles were well-stocked and orderly despite crowding related to the holiday season. The layout was simple, though it's easy to get caught up in distractions when searching for a single item (but hey, isn't that how stores make their money?). The last component is service. The lines at dollar stores and discount stores in general never seem to move quickly, even when items and customers are few. However, in this case, enough lanes were open to ease the pressure. The elderly cashier moved consistently, if not quite efficiently, but she was very polite and did not slow down the line by drawing out uncomfortable small talk - which also often happens in similar stores. Overall, this Dollar Tree is a great representation of its franchise - but even moreso, an asset to the strip mall and surrounding community. It provides just about every daily product someone might need at a low price and at high quality, and offers a pleasant environment for shopping. I already said I'm a Dollar Tree fan, so my words my come off as overly positive and inflated. But I'm not afraid to note important weaknesses in a business or its service, and strive to portray my experience accurately. This store is a success, and I recommend it fully. read more

Eh. I'm on the border about this place. While I loves me some $1 shopping, the store is always walking a fine line between icky and "just okay" in cleanliness and organization, and the management could use some fine tuning with their attitude. You can get some great finds here. I'm a huge fan of their teacher selections, as I'm a teacher. I get a lot of my bulletin board borders and letters here for only $1 while I see my co-workers paying $1.79 at their affiliate store, Deals, for the same packaging. I also pick up a lot of small storage containers here for my classroom, little things for my kids like reusable water bottles, and candy. I've had some problems with managers telling me certain items are sold year round when they are in fact, not. So, I've bought large amounts of storage containers expecting to be able to purchase more within the next 1-2 weeks for use within a classroom, only to have them never been seen on the shelf again. I've had that happen with two different styles of storage containers. Then I've just had issues with managers in the sense that, when you ask for assistance, they will help you...but their attitude...it's just...it's like, they'd rather be anywhere but helping you. After I spend all day in a classroom with students with behavior disorders I'm sick of attitude. I get it ALL DAY left and right. If I'm going to spend my money in your store and I'm being pleasant, I just appreciate a little bit of happiness in our interaction. There is one guy who works at this store and he's awesome. I can't remember his name, but I think it's Quinn or Quentin? I always try to go to him for help! He's not a manager, but he's very pleasant and always helpful. read more

The manager that approached me there last week was outright rude. She had a tone in her voice making it seem like I should've known of all the changes they made to the store. I later come to learn her name is Rosa. She also makes it clear in her voice and other things she stated that she hates working there. I hope she quits or is otherwise fired. I feel so bad for the people working under her. Her boss, Theresa, should consider finding a new manager to work there. Someone that reacts and treats customers right. I will be shopping at different Dollar Tree's moving forward just so I can avoid dealing with someone as horrible as Rosa. read more

This dollar store is my favorite. It has nothing over a dollar, and is also a perfect place to go for all kinds of party favors, candy, and holiday decorations. This store also has food items, but they are mostly canned and boxed goods. This is a great store to visit! Its all a dollar :) read more

I am a new resident of Downers Grove , I have been coming to the Dollar Tree on Lemont, in Downers Grove since December of 2015. I have recently seen remarkable improvements at this location. ordered online vases for baby shower, paid on line. Got email on March 25th saying case of vases was in store. The email did say to try to pick up by April 1. I could not get there until today which is April 3. the store manager tells me they have no record of anything for me. I asked her to scan the email I received (per instructions in email), she refused saying she can't scan it, my name is not in the system?? How would she know unless she scanned the order receipt, plus she didn't even take my name down!! My last name is 10 letters long! She did glance at my license. Then she said "well you placed the order in March, It is April! I don't care if it is December!! I paid for it. They would not give me a refund. Called the 24/7 number to be told that customer service is only in Monday thru Friday. Now the shower is a week away, I have fresh flowers coming at end of week and no vases. SO DISAPPOINTED AND ANGRY! I wish I could give this place a zero!! Also have to waste time during a busy work week to try to get my money back or find the vases read more

Although Dollar Tree has a variety of goods for only a dollar, I still won't be returning to this location. In the few times I have been there the cashiers have been either incompetent or rude. When I visited today, I encountered both varieties. The rude cashier shut down her lane right when I got in line. I only had two items but she refused to ring me up. This forced me to get into the lane of a very incompetent cashier. She could not figure out how to check out a customer using a gift card. After multiple attempts, she had to call a manager to ring the person up. It took around 10 minutes. After she rang me up I overheard the customer behind me say she gave him the wrong amount of change back. This place is a disaster. The workers there seem totally stoned. read more
