My family and I stopped here after checking out Story time with Drag Queens at Women and Children First bookstore (highly recommend). We were hungry and had two small kids starving. This place was not bad -I had the spicy chicken sandwich, my toddler had grilled cheese off the kids menu, my wife ordered a salad with grilled chicken and my youngest had a scrambled egg. We wanted to try something new so we walked over here to check it out. The decor is cool. Kinda futuristic. We all ordered drinks and then ordered food. I had the Kale burger and my friends had a breakfast sandwich and some breakfast platters. All their food came out and mine probably took 5 more minutes after. Thats fine I get it the kale patty might take a little longer. So my food finally comes out and the kale patty is pretty crunchy. The sandwich comes with lettuce , 1 tomato, and their special sauce on it. I got the butt piece of the tomato. Cool. This is my favorite spot that offers all day breakfast! I usually like breakfast/brunch later in the day and most places offer it until 2 or 3 and/or they are very busy that includes a wait time. I can always get a spot, even if it's at the counter - which is fun because then, you get a real diner experience! I also love the friendly neighborhood feel! I've become somewhat of a regular and it feels really good to be remembered, even down to my order! Service is quick and the food is always hot and fresh! Great coffee; light-filled, fun space; lots of outdoor seating. Friendly staff (they offered a coloring book and crayons to our son), although we were unclear on whether one should tip at a place like this (the iPad where you pay gives you the option to do so). From reading these reviews I see we were supposed to bus our own table, which we didn't realize. Also, after we ordered, we were given a number and then our food was brought to us, so maybe they're changing that process from the buzzer mentioned in other reviews? I think the food is a bit overpriced, but we all liked our meals: the chilaquiles (daily special), homefries, pancakes, and chicken biscuit sandwich. Donuts are delicious, too. Good menu, great patio, and fun inside décor. It's a diner, a coffee shop, and a bar, with beer and cocktails on tap. This Swiss Army knife of an address always has great service no matter if you're sitting at the bar for a coffee or one of the tables for full diner service. I try something new each time I go here. I have no fear, since everything has been delicious thus far. They even have two high-functioning wifi routers, one for the front of the restaurant and one for the rear/patio. So many places neglect their barely-functional wifi these days, I'm glad Dollop is on top of the issue. Which of course, makes this a great place to get work done. read more

The dining area was incredibly dirty. There was food on the ground, dust and dirt in the back corners of the booth, visibly dirt-stricken tile flooring, and disgusting bathrooms. They also have limited vegan options (a negative for me), and I paid $16 for a small burger and side salad. I don't see what the appeal is. The decor is nothing spectacular and the food seems pretty average. Perhaps it's the "anesthetic" and prime location that they have that attracts American-cuisine foodies. Let's just say I'm a huge fan of this diner, let's also say that a 1/4 of my paycheck also goes to them. I've been coming to Dollop since they opened. I got to know the staff and owner and really enjoy the regular faces and consistent services. I really should have my own table there by now. My usual is the bacon, cheddar and egg sandwich with avocado if I can even remember to order it. Now why is that important? Any other sandwich with another restaurant is an absolute must to have avocado or I will not eat it but Dollop has perfected the crunchy bacon and secret sauce that makes this sandwich my favorite with or without avocado. I can do with out the potatoes but the cheese curds and dipping sauce are to die for. Now if you can through couple little curds with my sandwich every morning would be a perfect morning and 100% heavier. Kevin runs this joint and remembers my face which is welcoming and the staff for the most part seem to have good attitudes. I love that it's dog friendly on the patio and the menu is an upscale diner. My only qualms with Dollop is the hours, as a diner I expect 24-7 hours but if that's not an option then at least a 6-7am started and maybe midnight close. I live across the way and I often times crave a late night snack or would like a sandwich before work which doesn't workout when you start at 8:30a and they open at 8a. Dollop overall is my regular spot and I highly suggest trying them or giving them another shot if you had a bad experience. *Note this isn't a "cheap" diner, you will end up paying $10-$15 for a meal and drink + tip. read more

Tried Dollop Diner for breakfast this week and loved it! The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon, and sausage were delish and service was excellent! Fun to see there are folks who are regulars and nice to sit at the counter to have a community feel. Love the way they've set up the space. More like 3 1/2....I stopped in for breakfast recently, and it was pretty good! I ordered the biscuits and gravy and Mexican mocha. We also split an old fashioned donut. Biscuits and gravy for the most part pretty darn good! The biscuit was a bit tough; the bottom was a little burned, so it was difficult to cut. The gravy is good and and has a flavorful base. There is visibly sausage in it, but couldn't really taste it... Mexican mocha is a highlight! It has a nice subtle kick to it, and the coffee is decent quality. Very disappointed in the donut. I could only taste the fry oil and sugar. The donut itself didn't have much flavor. Fair prices and decent service bumper this to a 4-star rating. read more

When I left the diner, I was really feeling a 3 star review, but my major issue could be easily changed if they feel it is warranted. That issue is the iPad based POS (cash register) system. There is a mostly vertical screen that faces you and has very large type that: 1. Let's everyone behind you know what you are ordering which very simply is not any of there business. 2. When the cashier sub totals your order, a screen pops up with buttons a little smaller than a 50 cent piece that asks you to add a tip to your order. It is bullying you to show everyone behind you what kind of tipper you are. They obviously do not know the origin of the word TIPS. Let me enlighten you. The letters stand for To Insure Prompt Service. At this point the only service you have received only from the cashier and was only average at best. So now you have tipped 20% percent because it is the middle of the road choice, and you hope the server lives up to the tip, but this much of a self service restaurant and as a former server, when you do much yourself is not deserving of 20% of the check total. I felt bullied by an iPad! This alone might keep me from returning. The food was very good and the coffee was as well. As mentioned, the prices were a bit high, but not outrageous. The space is a little strangely set up, but also not doable. So *Food Good - would warrant a return visit *Coffee Good - also would keep me returning * Employees - adequate but not welcoming * POS system- very likely would keep me from returning read more

I don't know why I avoided going to Dollop for so long. The staff is extremely friendly, the food choices are wide and everything I've ordered has been out of this world. They use REAL MAPLE SYRUP standard for pancakes--which are amazing! I would have the pancakes here before Bongo Room any day. On top of that they don't rush you to get out and there's easy access to plugs at the counter so you can work from here. Annnnd they serve breakfast until close. New favorite spot! read more

I lived in Buena Park on the north side for almost 10 years so I've always been a HUGE fan of the original Dollop Coffee on Clarendon. Now that I live in Andersonville, I was eager to try the new Dollop Diner with my partner and a couple of friends. Our experience was indeed "underwhelming at best", as someone else said in her review. The service was odd, as there is none--other than cooking the food/making the coffee, you have to do everything yourself: retrieve your own silverware/napkins/condiments, bring your food to your table when a pager goes off, and bus your own dishes. Yes, it's fine to order at the counter, but it was extremely disorganized. The individual who rung up my order forgot to give me a pager, my partner's chicken and waffles was inexplicably ready in seconds--even before his coffee--and the rest of us had to wait an inordinately long time for our food. On top of that, my friend ordered a fruit and granola plate that was completely forgotten about. The food itself (when we finally saw it)? Fine. Nothing great. The chicken and waffles was an embarrassingly tiny (and I mean tiny!) little piece of cut-up chicken. Portions were small and everything is a la carte, so it's actually MORE expensive than going to a much more enjoyable sit-down brunch spots in Andersonville like M. Henry, Big Jones or The Bongo Room (and you don't have to bus your own tables!). The biscuit was decent. The eggs were fine. It was nothing great or even remotely memorable in terms of presentation or originality. The staff was all hanging out on the patio in the back of the diner, which I found off-putting and unprofessional. The only saving grace was the interior, which has beautiful tile work and a midcentury modern diner feel to it. A nice interior certainly won't be enough to bring us back for this bizarre and underwhelming dining experience. What a bummer. read more

As I gulped this coffee I had a very reasonably sized, perfectly cooked, eggs-over-medium w/ cheese sandwich with a generous portion of home fries. I will eat all of what you put in front of me, especially at breakfast, so just being completely and pleasantly full, rather than being stuffed and having to recover from breakfast (which of course I'm using to recover from a hangover) was refreshing. I want to pay for the quality I want, not the quantity I don't. Also: I got out of there for under $10 before tip! If you are selective but not fussy (and want some Pow! coffee), come here. I've lived in Andersonville for five years, and ever since Dollop opened in 2017, it's been my go-to place. The prices are good and there's a number of great things on the menu. I'll admit, when they first opened I wasn't too into it, but they've really stepped their game up and for the last year or so I don't think a week has gone by when I haven't stopped in at least once. They make a great cheeseburger and a terrific hot chicken sandwich, but my favorite thing on the menu is the breakfast sandwich; it is probably the best of its kind that I've ever had. The service is always great with a super friendly waitstaff. It's a great, low key alternative to other spots in Andersonville. read more

Went here for the first time with a friend and her infant son. This place is Not high chair friendly, so if you have an infant definitely not recommended, only older children who can sit in a regular chair. The space is very tight. The food was not bad, but the server was incredibly rude after confronted about a possible roach in the food, that was for the infant by the way. Not recommended, many more diners and restaurants that are more accommodating with better service in the area. read more
