We just tried out the new evening Something Burger menu and it was fantastic. I was expecting it to be pretty good b/c I'm a regular Dollop Diner brunch customer and have enjoyed their breakfast menu for awhile. These burgers are REALLY great! Both the Kimchi and Dagwood burgers were delicious and the perfect size as a single patty. The chile mayo and spicy ketchup dipping sauces are top notch too. If you're into In-N-Out burger but want something with more style/flavor, this is it. My new go-to burger spot! read more

Food was ok, but the service was just terrible. The attitude of the servers turned my stomach. Got our food, NO UTENSILS, NO NAPKINS, DIRTY CUP OF WATER. I eat out alot and feel the basics should be in place when you call yourself a restaurant. read more

I really wanted to like this place that's in my neighborhood and I and others have been anticipating, but it's not really a diner first of all. Menu is pretty lacking, food is fine (nothing special), and there are NO special sodas or any kind of shakes, which are diner staples. It's a cute atmosphere, but with such a limited menu I don't see myself going very often unfortunately. I would love for them to get some tasty shakes on the menu that are done right, offer some fun sodas or more beverages, and kick the menu up a notch. Or at the very least maybe offer a few more alcoholic beverages. If you don't like a negroni or manhattan you won't be having a cocktail. Lots of coffee though, so if you love coffee you might love this place. From what I understand it's like the people in charge of the other Dollop cafes around the city wanted to do a "diner" but just didn't commit fully. Good and solid diner in the heart of Andersonville. Such a wonderful addition to South of Foster businesses. Staff is always friendly and attentive. If you come before they close they'll give you free donuts! Breakfast sandwiches are absolutely delicious. Everything is priced reasonably. The guy that makes lattes and hot chocolates is not your regular barista -- he's AN ARTIST! He can make a galaxy, hearts, teddy bear, flower, leaves and other amazing barista art in your cup of beverage! I feel like he should be competing on the international lever! This diner is good! Why 5 stars? Because Dollop is a rare bird indeed. A corner city diner resembling Edward Hopper's 'Nighthawks' is not expected to serve up comfort food like burgers, sloppy joes, fried chicken and biscuits, and warm buttered toast and do it in farm to table fashion. But that's exactly what they do here. My wife and I made our first visit to the new Andersonville location today. Her chicken biscuit had extra maple butter on the side to mop up the crumbly pieces that broke off. My Sloppy Joe was made with Asian pork and topped with thinly sliced pickles and radishes and had a nice tangy slaw on the side. Now we have the best of both worlds -- a diner from a bygone era offering the freshly prepared and locally sourced tastes of today! read more

As a long time Andersonville resident, we always want new places to succeed. Since we love the Dollop coffee shops, we were SO excited to see the diner open. Went the first week with my wife and son. It was pretty busy, and I just don't think they were ready for the chaos. Got a coffee and ordered a donut and something savory. Waiting 30 minutes and didn't see any sign of our food coming. By that time, my son was over hungry and getting cranky. So, we had to cancel our order and leave. Service definitely left something to be desired. I would have liked to have reviewed the food, but we never actually got to taste it. Giving 3 stars because I'm hoping they improve. Would like to try again when things settle in a bit. read more

If you have been to the other Dollop restaurants here in Chicago, set aside your expectations because this one is slightly different. They market themselves as the neighborhood diner. In fact when you walk into the restaurant that is exactly what you find. Typical of any diner, the food is very good, the service was stellar, the prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is a bit noisy but fun. I found nothing that I didn't like or appreciate. In fact, this may become a place for my regular casual "I don't want to cook tonight" dining. read more

I love Metropolis coffee and was blown away at how good it was this morning. I ordered a Bloody Mary as well. It was good and pretty potent. I prefer mine a lot spicier than they made it, but they offered sriracha when I asked. Like others who've posted, I think that the portions/price ratio is a little off balance. Especially at a mostly self serve cafeteria counter type of place. BUT, they are a new place and figuring out their kinks. I also commend Nate, the manager, for being receptive and adaptive! La la la, never going back. Off the bat, we had a server who seemed disinterested being there, so it was a chilly welcome. I ordered the chilaquiles; it was a mistake. The eggs were served on a bed of stale chips that were as cold as they were stale and chewy. I took a couple bites and just gave up. It was nasty. At least the trash food was comped. I asked between two fried chicken options, and the waitress recommended the chicken and waffle INSTEAD of the two I asked about. So, I went with it because servers are usually spot on. Well, they sent me out a dry waffle and forgot the chicken. When she got there she realized and they fixed it with a tiny piece of breaded chicken (looked like milanesa) and was tough, chewy, no flavor and definitely not what I would call fried chicken. I stumbled upon this gem by accident. It has a very diffuse menu . The extra seating in the back and the patio area were surprises. The seasonal soup had peaches as the main ingredient . I am not too much of a sweet soup fellow but a couple shakes of the hot sauce brought it tome. The burger was fine. I liked the breakfast menu but was not in the mood so I had beet salad with it. I tried this diner on grubhub. I ordered the breakfast which was the pancakes, bacon and eggs scrambled for me. It's a diner so i am not expecting 5 star restaurant quality. Simply put everything was okay. Kind of high prices but chicago is a high cost of living kinda town. They have to stay afloat like the rest of us. Let me preface by saying I left Dollop Diner perfectly full - Dollop Diner's food is savory and a bit rich, and that was filling for me. I have read complaints about portion size and just want to say I eat a ton, probably too much, and enjoyed my food here without feeling deprived. My friend and I split everything we ordered. I tried the chicken and waffles: I loved the batter on the fried chicken, it went perfectly with the taste of the waffle. Peppery, salty, vanilla-y. I also appreciated that it was boneless chicken but had no loss of flavor because of that. The waffle was not overly crunchy and had a lovely aftertaste of vanilla in my mouth. I wanted more syrup, though. The breakfast sandwich: so, so good and very filling. The egg was perfectly in between over easy and over medium so that I could enjoy the egg without making a mess. I had sausage in my sandwich and it was juicy and brown at the same time. Yum. Even the fruit cup was delightful - every single piece of fruit was perfectly ripe, which is quite difficult with pineapple! The potato salad had a vinegar that i wasn't used to and wasn't to my liking (champagne?) but was eaten by my friend, who savored it. The asian slaw was bananapants. Absolutely perfect. Coffee was hot and tasty, bloody mary was reported by friend to be amply charged, and my 6 year-old devoured the two small donuts. If you're looking for giant American plates of food, order more! Although this is technically called a diner, there is a nuance of foodie in the menu and its execution that is quite pleasing to me and the people who dined with me. I really wanted to like this place. The decor is fresh and clean. South Andersonville really needs a place like this, so I hope that they can improve. I had the breakfast sandwich that was okay. Super friendly staff, great menu with lots of options from classics to comfort to more modern/healthy, and honestly just an overall great vibe and energy in the space. Love how cozy this place is. Could chill here for hours. Had a baby in a stroller with me and they were very accommodating considering the somewhat tight setup. I know when they opened there were some rough reviews and hiccups, so you can safely ignore the kneejerk reaction reviews from that time and come hang and eat here with full peace of mind that it's a rad spot. read more

We visited for a second time yesterday and they have waiters and waitresses now (major improvement)! So. I was already a bug fan of Dollop... it wasnt until recently that I became a huge fan after bumping into the dollop diner. This quaint restaurant is perfect for taking a moment to grab a nice cup of coffee and a bite to eat with a friend. The burger was a lil less done than I would have liked, but everything else was fantastic. This isn't a fancy joint. It's a diner and it delivers just that, solid diner food. My family and I stopped here after checking out Story time with Drag Queens at Women and Children First bookstore (highly recommend). We were hungry and had two small kids starving. This place was not bad -I had the spicy chicken sandwich, my toddler had grilled cheese off the kids menu, my wife ordered a salad with grilled chicken and my youngest had a scrambled egg.
