This is no knock on the donuts, they are delicious. But their customer service is very inconsistent. A friend of mine grabbed a quick donut and they included free donut holes so we thought they were included in every order! When I walked in not two minutes later and ordered a donut, no donut holes were added. After I exited a bit disappointed, a different friend went in to purchase a donut and came out with donut holes too. All three of us were extremely friendly and cordial with them yet they showed favoritism in two cases. To add to this speculation, I am Hispanic and my two friends who also went in were Asian. This place is absolutely amazing! The definition of comfort food and the environment of a mom and pop shop, Dolly's Donuts (and Cookies Too) satisfies my incredulous sweet tooth. I'm not sure how long the cookies had been sitting there, but 70 cents per cookie was a small price to pay to perhaps discover a fabulous cookie. With "cookies" being included in the name of the store, I was very hopeful, even when I saw their small selection sitting on a covered tray on the end of the counter. The chocolate chip cookie was an average, crispy chocolate chip cookie. The peanut cookie (not peanut butter, like I had hoped) was just a crispy cookie with peanuts on top. I took only a few bites of this tasteless cookie. Cookies are definitely an afterthought at Dolly's. The highlight of this experience was biting into the donut hole included with every purchase. After a less than filling meal at Hollingshead, I decided to get dessert in the form of a deep fried round thing with a hole in the middle. It was around noon on a Friday and the selection was limited. My daughter likes coming here, cuz they always have lots of plain cake donuts, the only kind she will eat. It's in a strip mall across from CHOC Hospital and the original Aneplaco's and in the same parking lot as Hollinghead's and Euopean Cleaners, so lots of reasons to be here! As they are open 24 hours, the donuts are abundant and fresh. Two sizes of apple fritters are available, a first in my experience. Lots of specialty donuts, too. I like that there is no Gatorade in front of kids' faces to tempt them. That way my daughter always gets milk. Me, too. This is definitely not the best donut shop around. Unfortunately, it is the only place in the vicinity of where I work so it leaves us very little choice in the matter. While the prices are reasonable, the quality just isn't there. There is a decent selection but from what I've had, they all taste basically the same. Not that I am a donut connoisseur by any means but I believe if you order a cinnamon roll or a chocolate covered cake, there should be a different flavor between the two. I am a little concerned in the fact that their products don't taste really fresh either. I am expecting a glazed donut to be light and flaky but unfortunately these were dried out on the inside and tasted a little old. If you're in a pinch for something sweet, Dolly's isn't a terrible choice but believe you / me, there are better options out there. read more

My daughter and I stopped by Dolly's a couple of weeks ago. This is a pleasant little shop and the women behind the counter were very nice. The donuts looked good, we ordered and left. Then we had our first taste. Now, I'm no donut expert but these little treats were light and airy. I had a chocolate bar and my daughter had a chocolate cake donut. Both were so tasty. I guess we had grown use to the heavy, kinda greasy donuts so were pleasantly surprised by these. I took my husband there yesterday and the donuts were just as light and flavorful. Dolly's is not the best donut shop. Their donuts are OK, nothing special that you'd go out of your way for. The store itself is run down. I have often found many homeless people hanging around. It's really not great...I only end up coming here because it is a convenient location near where my father lives. The employees are nice though AND they are currently in the middle of renovations. So I may have a positive update in the future! Another plus is that if you're a lottery player they do sell lottery tickets and scratchers. Every once in a while though, it's nice to have a donut or two at a reasonable price that are just good donuts. We have been going to Dollys for quite a while. I really miss the old owner. The new owner is rude and pushy. She used to be the old owners employee. I went in to get a dozen donuts. The prices have gone up! I spent 12.75 for a dozen donuts and $1 of donut holes. Not even specialty donuts. I got the basic donuts and was surprised of how much the price went up. Just got bobas drinks here today. I was with young friend when she ordered her drink. She asked to get lemon Thai tea with bobas, but woman who works here said to my friend that is not gonna be good taste, you should try it with Thai tea instead! So my friend said ok. As I was waiting for Hollingshead's Deli to open the other day, I decided to stop by Dolly's for a donut or two (or seven). This is a quaint little donut shop down near downtown Orange, right in the same shopping center as Hollingshead's, Duke's Charbroiler, and Staples. What's nice is that it's pretty close to the Main Place Mall in Santa Ana, St. Joseph Hospital, and the 22 freeway. Although there's nothing that truly sets this donut shop apart from other donut shops in the area, I did find a donut that looked really interesting here: a butterfly-shaped raspberry donut. Of course, I ordered one and split it with the wifey (but I ate most of it). Although I love hole-in-the-wall type donut shops...since they usually have the cutest old ladies who've been baking donuts the good ol artery clogging way for 30 years, I was pretty disappointed when I took a bite of the chocolate "cake" donut I got from Dolly's. I use the word cake lightly because it tasted more like dried brownie crust minus the sugar. Although the donut was topped with a chocolate sauce and nuts, it still wasn't enough to make me take a third bite (the first bite was "hmm is this really this bad?" and the second bite is "yes, it really is.") I had to chime in. I have been going to this gem of a donut shop for years. It is run by the nicest couple. Real small business folks that care about their customers and products. They have the absolute best donuts. They are made fresh every morning. I know this for a fact because I am usually there when they are making them. I work the early shift at the Children's hospital across the street. They are not in a shady location. That's kind of rediculous for one of the reviewers to say that. If you're looking for generic tasting donuts from a big overpriced franchise served up in a cookie cutter environment by a high school kid that doesn't care about you or your business, this place is not for you.
