There are donut shops, and then there are places that make you stop mid-bite and wonder why you ever settled for less. This little walk-up spot is one of those places! The setup is simple; walk up to the window, place your order, and try not to get distracted by the display case packed with donuts that look like they belong in a bakery competition. The employees inside were ready to answer any questions and worked diligently to get orders processed. There are a handful of outdoor tables if you want to enjoy your treats there, but be warned that it can get busy in the morning. After one visit here it's easy to understand why. What really sets them apart is their willingness to get creative. They have the classics, but the adventurous specialty donuts are where the magic happens. I tried the Girl Scout inspired Samoa donut, and it absolutely delivered. A soft, pillowy donut with a rich chocolate-coated bottom, topped with a generous layer of caramel and coconut. The flavors were balanced deliciously. The chocolate added depth, the caramel brought just enough buttery sweetness, and the coconut gave it texture and a slightly nutty finish. Best of all, it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. Going back for this one soon! If coconut is not your thing, but you enjoy chocolate and whip cream I recommend the whipped cream stuffed chocolate Long John. The chocolate icing had a nice cocoa flavor without being overly sweet, while the whipped cream filling was light, airy, and pleasantly smooth. What really stood out though was the donut itself because it was soft, fluffy, and fresh. The freshness was obvious from the first bite. The donut had that perfect texture--light and airy inside while still substantial enough to hold all of those toppings. It managed to feel indulgent without becoming heavy. Even the atmosphere here adds to the experience. Standing outside with a fresh donut and coffee in hand while watching the steady stream of customers come and go gives you the feeling that you've discovered a local favorite rather than a chain trying to imitate one. If you're the type who usually grabs a plain glazed donut and moves on, this is the place that might convince you to branch out. Between the creative flavors, fresh ingredients, and consistently delicious execution, it's easy to see why people line up in the morning. Not gonna lie, I went here because the line to Krispy Kreme was waaaay too long and I couldn't have made a better decision. This place was awesome the staff were super friendly, the donuts were absolutely delicious my only regret is that I didn't buy milk from them to make the experience even better. For such a small ma and pa shop I was expecting their prices to be a higher like maybe 2.50 per donut, but their prices are surprisingly fair. I didn't pay more than 2 bucks for any of the donuts I ordered. I'll definitely be making this place a regular spot for me to visit and I can't wait to go again. read more

Came here to purchase a dozen donuts for my daughter's teachers as well as grab a few for us! There were a few people in front and behind us at 8:30 am on a Friday. The woman who greeted us wasn't exactly the friendliest but did seem to be short and in a hurry, likely due to the line. I said I wanted a dozen and she rattled off which ones were included in the basic and that anything else would be extra. I should've just pointed out what I wanted and paid extra for it because the box I ended up with was so basic and boring. I also felt very rushed. My daughter picked a cake donut with chocolate frosting and sprinkles and I had to clarify a couple times that it wasn't the chocolate one. I also got 3 apple fritters for our family to share since they're our favorite. It was $15 for the dozen and $9 for the 4 extra. I didn't realize there was an additional discount for purchasing 6 or more which I would have done. My daughter and I sat outside at a table and enjoyed our donuts. She ate all the frosting and sprinkles off the top as usual and I ate one of the apple fritters. It was crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside just like you want from a good fritter. The only downside was I didn't feel like there were very many apples in mine at all. When my husband opened his up at home, it seemed to have more, so maybe mine was an outlier. Overall good experience and tasty donuts. Next time I'll just get the donuts I want rather than worry about staying within the pricing of the regular box. read more

Everyone knows how incredibly hard ordering donuts can be--especially from a donut shop with indoor seating. Even Harvard educated JD Vance, the current VP of The USA, struggled to talk to the staff, identify 12 donuts he liked out of the countless options, and stand normally at a Holt's Sweet Shop in Georgia. Fortunately for all of us on the west coast, DK's has made some improvements on the original indoor donut shop concept: First major improvement DK's made is to delete the indoor space. No one can embarrass themselves inside a donut shop with no interior. Second improvement DK's made: a bell by the order window can be used to alert the staff in the shop. No DK's customer ever has to order anything until they are utterly ready. The days of pointing at the donuts behind the glass, making meaningless small talk to stall, or asking the staff to just pick donuts out are over Last improvement DK's made to the donut model: the staff is kept to a minimum in general, and the small order window keeps the interactions one to one. One of best and brightest among us seemed to be thrown off by the presence of multiple staff at that Georgia donut shop. At DK's only one face on either side of the small window, please. All of the above improvements saved me from the horrific fate the VP endured. The lack of an indoor space kept me out of DK's, the order bell/ringer gave me time to think, and once I rang the bell, I only had to pay attention to one staff member. I successfully ordered a chocolate bar without incident. The staff member slid the donut out of the window in a nice, waxy bag. I left that DK's without doing or saying anything so laughably foolish that it went viral or became a subreddit. After an Angels-Cubs game, my wife and I were in dire need of sugar. As good as the chocolate chip cookies at Angel Stadium are, we weren't feeling the $29 price tag for a bucket of cookies. Donuts sounded like an acceptable alternative so I found DK's on Yelp. So many pictures of delicious donuts. Unfortunately, being a few hours before closing time, our main choices of the premium donuts were sold out. We were left trying to pick from the leftovers of the day. We did the best we could and drove home. Lo and behold, the donuts were actually fresh. They weren't our first choices they were darn good. Most places closing in a couple of hours would have donuts made an age ago dying a quick death. These were impressive, most impressive. I dropped by today 7/21/26 to pick up drinks and donuts on my way to work. There are plenty of donut shops to choose from but I like this one the best. Its family owned and ran and I remember they would give me extra donut holes. I got 3 Vietnamese Coffees, apple fritter and a pink sprinkles. The employee was courteous packed my donuts and whipped out the drinks in a couple of minutes. My step dad was pleased with the fritter and the pink sprinkles was ok. I have yet to try the breakfast sandwiches which I may have soon. They bake various type of donuts and offer deals. I recommend giving them a shot. read more

Who doesn't love donuts?! It's notoriously bad for us but it's so satisfyingly gooood. A donut is so much more than I thinks! I have the fondest memories of coming here since I was in elementary school! My mom would take my brother and I here early in the morning to pick up a dozen variety of donuts in their signature pink box. So fresh, so delish! Now we can get donuts during anytime of the day (during their working hours)! Love grabbing some of our classic favs: donut holes, glazed old fashion, sugar donuts and maple bars! They got cronuts but I haven't yet tried but will one of these upcoming visits. Other than the sweet stuff we do like their savory as well - especially the breakfast croissants. The staff has been very courteous and helpful. Parking spots are kind of limited in this tiny lil run-down plaza. But if you don't go during the busy times you'll be ok! I didn't even know DK stood for Donut King until I recently watched The Donut King documentary (an immigrant story with a twist) on Netflix. it gave us quite an insight into an overlooked Cambodian community and the touching story of Ted Ngoy's journey of becoming the Donut King. I was surprised to know that I grew up where he started the business here in Orange/Tustin!! Oh, and I don't want to spoil it if you haven't watched it. But I will say the documentary has an excellent moral teaching about the importance of contentment and not falling for temptation. Here's the issue: there were 12 donuts in the box, and after I asked - dude stood firm on 12 being a dozen. Question for fellow Yelp'ers: how many donuts would you expect to be in the box in this situation (i.e. a baker's dozen - 13 - or a regular dozen - 12)? January 2023, I found myself at El Modena high school for my son's water polo tournament. Having never been there before, I dropped him off for warm-ups, and not wanting to sit around in the cold of the morning, decided to take a walk around the neighborhood. Nothing lost by trying to get my 10,000 steps in early for a day. About halfway into my long rectangular walk around the high school, I passed DK donut, and then went back, knowing that a little bit of fried dough and sugar is actually really good for water polo players. At least that's what I believe. I ordered up his usual: chocolate, old fashion, maple bar, half a dozen donut holes... And I got myself a nice black coffee. Aside: you never know getting coffee at a mom and Pop donut shop. Sometimes it's the most amazing fresh thing you've ever had, other times it tastes, like it has been slowly burning on the carafe heater since the Carter administration. Thankfully, the former was true, and I enjoyed a very nice warm cup of coffee on a chilly winter morning, walk in the mean streets of Orange. The donuts were fresh, served quickly from the outside window, and reasonably priced. Nice people on the other side of the counter, even threw in an extra donut hole or two. I've been wanting to try their cronuts, but never make it before they sell out. But today I got lucky and finally got to try them. They were all that plus some! The donut shop is at the end of the strip mall facing Chapman with two windows to order from. The line goes quick and the staff is friendly. I tried the original glazed cronut and a cruffin. Both super flakey and yummy! The cruffin had a custard filling and sugar on the sides. I cut it in half to make it a bit easier to eat - I did the same with the cronut. Every bite was like heaven and oh so good!! These things made my Sunday morning and I'll be back for more! read more

I stopped by to get some goodies before work to share with coworkers. I ordered 3 strawberry cronuts along with 4 other sweet items. To my surprise, when I was about to eat it during breaktime, the strawberries on the cronuts all had moldy fuzz on them. Had to throw them all out. What a waste! This used to be my go-to place for years for cronuts and strawberry cronuts, but no more. It's summertime and strawberry season so I don't understand why a business would use old and moldy strawberries in their pastries. The pastries aren't cheap either. Very disappointed. read more

The last time I came here I got a jalapeño bagel and left with an immediate bad feeling in my stomach. I have a good intolerance for heat and spicy too. For the next few days I had a stomach bug so uncomfortable. The jalapeño bagel looked grey and green. Dark brown. Not pleasing colors. I came back today and ordered an everything bagel, and when I got home, it was a plain bagel. I shouldn't have to check my food before I leave. I work with food, it's not that hard. Maybe the bagels here are cursed. Because of the last time, I also asked what bagels they had beforehand, hoping they had anything other than a jalapeño bagel.
