    Black Eye Peas with rice
    Najah H.

We had a craving for soul food but it was a Monday evening, after 6 PM and our local spot was closed permanently! I did a quick Google and Granny's popped up with great reviews. It's located in a gas station plaza so it's easy to miss - so much that I've passed this place dozens of times. Walking in I could tell this place had legit food by the patrons eating and food in warmers. All fried food is cooked to order and I saw some fish plates coming out. Our dinners included BBQ chicken, Mac & Cheese, collard greens, green beans and a side of black eyed peas with rice. The service from the manager was very sweet and conversational. He was surprised this was our first time in! We also ordered dessert - a peach cobbler, but it went so fast (my son) that I didn't get a pic! He rated it very high! It's a small, casual place but there's a few tables to wait or stay to eat. We took ours to go. Lastly, the prices were what I'd expect. There's no more $10 plates these days but a $14 plate works for me! Try this place out.

Fried Whiting, Fried Okra, Mac n Cheese, Cornbread Muffin

This review is based solely on the food because my husband picked it up for takeout. According to him, the service was excellent, and the staff was warm and welcoming. I ordered Fried Whiting Fish, Macaroni and Cheese, Fried Okra, and a Cornbread Muffin. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but a few small details kept it from being a true standout. The Fried Whiting was seasoned and fried well. I also liked that they removed the skin from the bottom of the fish. However, the fish didn't taste as fresh as it could have. There is a noticeable difference between fresh fish and fish that's past its freshness date. Unfortunately, this fish leaned more towards the latter with an unpleasant "fishy" taste. The fish also had a few bones in it, so if you order whiting, be mindful of this. The Macaroni and Cheese was decent, but it could have used an extra layer of cheese, or an additional kind of cheese to make it pop, but that's my personal preference. The Fried okra was fried well, but it could have used just a pinch more salt to liven it up. The Cornbread muffin was excellent! It had the right texture and flavor. No complaints there at all. All in all, I enjoyed the meal, and I look forward to ordering from here again!

Real home cooking! In an effort to ditch fast-food I stopped here on a road trip and I was not disappointed. Service was super friendly and the food was incredibly good. I can't wait for my next trip down I-20W to stop in.

Mac n chs fried okra, rib tips, candied yams, rice casserole, squash and onions corn muffins

This place is a little hole in the wall next door to a gas station and a laundromat. What I like is that almost all of the food is already made when you arrive so you just have to pick what you want. The only exception is the fried foods, which are made to order. I had the oxtail plate and ribs on the side. I added rice and paired it with yams, macaroni, and corn bread. I really enjoyed the food for the most part. The sweetness in the cornbread and the yams is subtle. This place isn't much for ambiance, but they do have some tables and chairs so you can dine in if you like, but overall it's more of a carry out vibe. Customers consistently came in and out which shows that people like the food. My friend ordered the beef tip plate and she felt it was just okay. I would come back again. Though I could do without the styrofoam containers.

So I decided to come back and try their most expensive plate, the Oxtail plate. Everything tasted good, no complaints on that, the Oxtails are thin but they gave me like 7-10 pieces so they made up for it. I'll be back to try something different.

Ambience: Granny's is attached to a gas station and I couldn't tell it was open from the parking lot but then I finally saw the open sign and walked in. Right by the front entrance was a smoker that was cooking and smelled so good. I couldn't wait to see what the were serving. The restaurant is cafeteria style with a few seats to dine in. Food: They have a big selection of ready made food but all the fried food is cooked to order and takes about 10 minutes. I opted for the Salisbury meatballs, green beans, and potato salad. All the sides looked so good I added a veggie plate with Mac and cheese, broccoli rice casserole, squash, and dressing. I finished my order with banana pudding. The Salisbury meatballs were really good, tender, and well seasoned. The banana pudding is good too. The banana to cookie ratio was great, and the bananas were thinly sliced and did not overtake the pudding. Everything else is decent. The food is solid, nothing tasted bad but everything could have used a little more salt and season. It all tasted like Granny is watching her sodium intake. Service: The guy serving me was friendly and patient as I asked a lot of questions and was really unsure of what I wanted. Overall I would give this place a 3.5 star rating and I will definitely go back. Despite the mediocre score, this is the best soul food I've had in the Austell area.

Baked chicken with Mac n cheese, broccoli and cheese, collared greens and cabbage.

I was excited to try this spot, but unfortunately it was a little disappointing. Most of it was bland especially the chicken and Mac n cheese. The cabbage was really good and flavorful. The service was great and quick. There is no seating available, it is to go only.

I refuse to visit the south and not go to a soul food restaurant. We came across this place because most of the other soul food places we visited were only doing takeout due to Covid- 19 THE SERVICE ------------ The owner met us at the door and seated us. She was very engaging and gave us the history of how she started the restaurant. She made sure our drinks stayed full. THE FOOD ------------ The food was served cafeteria style and was hot and fresh. I ordered baked Turkey wings, collard greens, mashed potatoes and Mac and Cheese. The turkey wings were falling off the bone tender and very flavorful. The greens were seasoned but not overly salty with just the right amount of spice. The Mac and Cheese was cheesy and the pasta was not over or undercooked. The mashed potatoes with gravy were the perfect accompaniment to the Turkey wings. Sweet Tea is a staple in the south and Granny's Tea certainly hit the spot. Overall this was a great dining experience.

Food was better than average. The ambiance leaves a lot to be desired. All to go Styrofoam and it next to a shady gas station.

After seeing recent reviews online for the newer place, A1 Soul Food I decided to give it a try when I was in the area during lunch time. The area is a bit sketchy. It shares a lot with an vacant Dollar Tree & a few other businesses. Lock your car & be aware of your surroundings because you never know what you may see. That is honestly the way to be anywhere on MLK drive. When you get inside, the place is set up cafeteria line style with booths for dining in if you choose too. The prices are listed on the wall and they serve breakfast and lunch/dinner food with the prices listed clearly on the wall and daily specials also. You order by standing in line & they place your food into a styrofoam box & you can eat it there or take it home. I opted to take mine to go. I waited in line for about ten minutes which I hear is good for this place. I honestly did not know what I was going to order until I saw the fresh fried pork chops come out (please see my picture). Not only did they look fresh, but they were big, crispy & well seasoned. The meat only option included two and the price was more than right. I will be back for those again the next time I am in the mood for some soul food.

The portions are amazing, the food is always fresh, and you can genuinely taste the consistency and care in every bite. My personal favorites are the fried catfish and the smothered turkey legs--omg, they are so flavorful and always cooked just right. I've grown up eating here, and one thing I can say is the quality has never changed, which is rare and definitely appreciated. The vibe is simple and laid-back, but the food speaks for itself. It's all about good, hearty meals that keep you coming back. Also, if you're in the area, you definitely have to check out Wing Cafe right next door--another solid spot you don't want to miss

We had a long day and just wanted to eat at home, so we decided to place a takeout order. After browsing the website, we settled on the Salisbury steak meal, a veggie plate, lemon pepper wings with fries, a chicken tender meal, and a slice of strawberry cake. Second good point: the website was user-friendly. However, when I tried to place the order, the payment wouldn't go through. My husband called the restaurant, and we were told they were having some technical difficulties with their system--but we could place the order over the phone instead. Third good point: the person we spoke to was friendly and helpful. The food was hot and fresh when my husband brought it home. Overall, everything was good--there were a few minor issues, but nothing that was a deal breaker: The mac and cheese was a bit dry, and the cheese wasn't fully melted. The collard greens were a little too salty, and the chicken tenders were pretty bland. The icing on the strawberry cake was also a bit too sweet for my taste--but that might just be personal preference. Other than that, everything was delicious. I'm looking forward to actually going inside next time, whether to dine in or get takeout.

Barton was my waiter and he was very friendly and thoughtful, paid attention to details, and checked in often, making the experience really great They give you free biscuits, cornbread, and butter which are pretty good, I devoured them. Very nice touch and made the whole experience elevated as well. For food, I ordered the blackberry nogrito, crab cakes, and shrimp and grits. The blackberry nogrito was very good but quite sweet, it came off as a blackberry mint mocktail similar to a mojito but the syrup flavor was a bit strong. The crab cake appetizer was delicious, probably my favorite thing! It was huge and the flavor was strong but not overpowering or heavy, which made for a really nice appetizer! It came with a mayo like sauce and was on a bed of corn for some flavor variety, but really enjoyed the crab cake. It also came out PIPING hot and was very enjoyable. The shrimp and grits came with a Smokey almost gumbo like sauce, kind of like a Cajun take on shrimp and grits. It was filled with shrimp that was very bouncy (not overcooked!), smoked ham/sausage, and was very generous on the sauce and grits. Was very enjoyable. Will definitely come back for the exceptional service and good food!
