The dolphin we interacted with was raised in captivity by the US Navy, and I appreciate that these encounters are ethically conducted. Even though there were strangers in our group, it was small (~7) and intimate with lots of learning and dolphin time. Located at the gorgeous iconic Kahala Hotel, Dolphin Quest Oahu is an incredible lifetime memory experience. There are age restrictions on swimming with dolphins, but this DVM-founded program offers a tiny tot experience dockside for kids up to 4 years old. For myself and my kiddo and including a digital photo package we paid just under $400. Kahala is valet only and they park your car. Dolphin quest in the middle of the hotel grounds, validates parking for four hours. We were paired with a staff member, another mom and 4 year old, and Hua the youngest dolphin present. I think it is important to note that the pod of dolphins here is all the males in a small family, father, children. Each pair of parent and got got to separately spend individual time with Hua, learn commands and feed Hua fish! Hua was super healthy, curious, inquisitive, coming up out of the water to eye us and hang out. I swear he smiled. I could see him eyeballing us curiously- just as curious as we were about him! The grounds are beautiful and the lagoon is large. 10/10 would recommend for the experience. read more

I purchased the dolphin experience for my family which included myself, Grammie, our daughter, grandson and 2 granddaughters. Ryan was the individual that provided the service and activity with the dolphin, without words the experience was exceptional, the entire family had such a great time, highly recommended. Although you can have someone take photos it's very difficult to take any great pictures because you are limited to where you can take pictures from therefore if you want closeup photos you'll have to purchase one of the packages they offer which are pricey, we purchased the entire Digital Download only to establish an account and find out there was another family included in our download, after requesting assistance I was told that the digital download was corrected, however there is no way of knowing if any of our pictures were given to the other individuals, the new code would not work due to the fact that I had already established an email with the other code, I was then sent a link for me to view the pictures but the new link would only be good for 14 days although I should be able to share my account with my family and my account should be good for 90 days so needless to say I'm not very pleased with the package Not sure why the representative couldn't delete the first account so I could re-establish my account to view the correct pictures I purchased. Highly recommend if you should purchase the Digital package make sure you view all the pictures that will be included once you establish your account. My experience at Dolphin Quest made my birthday super special. The trainers were very nice and knowledgeable but the dolphins stole the show. Would highly recommend this lovely experience to anyone who wants a close up encounter with such a wonderful mammal of sea. I've seen the swimming with dolphins experience hundreds of times and never considered doing it, until my fiancé said it was something he always wanted to do. So, done! We're in Hawaii, let's do it, right? So, I booked it online and we couldn't wait for our trip! We were staying in Waikiki, so we hopped in an Uber and headed over to the Kahala Resort for a morning swim with dolphins! We got there a little early and enjoyed the morning sun on the deck while we waited to check in. Once everyone was checked in, we met our dolphin trainer, put our things in a cubby and suited up in our life vests. We had 5 people in our group, but they split us up between two trainers. For a 30-minute session, we had great one-on-one fun with our dolphin Noa. It was so much fun and exceeded our expectation. It was really one of the best experiences we ever had. It was so fantastic. We were able to swim next to him with our hand on his back, send different commands, I got a kiss on the cheek and so much more. It was really fantastic. It is great for couples, but it's great for families, too. I would go back and do it again hands down and I'd love to bring our family to do it with us. If you're looking for a fun, amazing experience, definitely do it. Yes, it's a little pricey, but totally worth it. Oh, and you'll definitely want to get a photo at the end because they are great and you'll want to look back on it. read more

Dolphins are my favorite animal. I feel so lucky to be able to interact with them so closely. We were able to feed them, touch them and swim along side them for a half hour. Our group had a total of 4 guests, one guide and one dolphin (Kolohe). You don't get the full half hour to yourself with a dolphin. Since there are four people you get roughly a quarter of the total time. This is a pricey animal encounter but it is probably a one-in-a-lifetime occurrence. I was hesitant at first to do this since we would be interacting with "caged" animals. The website for this company indicates that there is some good being done with at least some of the money. I hope so. Our guide today was Meg (?). She was wonderful. She had a great energy about her. She provided a lot of information about the dolphins. read more

We stayed at the Kahala resort and had a dolphin lagoon view room. It is obvious how well cared for the dolphins are at Dolphin Quest. DO NOT RECOMMEND. We just had the worst experience here! We paid $500 to have a dolphin encounter for our anniversary. When we got there they stuck us with a family of 4 and let a couple of two be their own group. We were off put but tried to make the most of it. We barely had a chance to be with the dolphin, our trainer gave that experience to the family of 4 they stuck us with. They let them get tons of one on one pictures and then ad the end she forgot to even let me get a one on one we had to ask her. My photos were so rushed and I was so disappointed and honestly sad. We let the manager know and he was so unsympathetic and said that's the "luck of the draw" like seriously!? Thanks for making what we planned and anticipated for our anniversary an absolute disappointment. read more

Let me start with how we even got to doing this - As a health care industry employee we were offered a free 30 minutes virtual experience a few months ago. I signed my son and me up not knowing what it was going to be or feel like. It was AMAZING!!! Kaitlyn was the trainer and Kolohe was our dolphin. My 12 YO loved it so much that he wished for one in real life. Fast forward to his birthday in December and we decided this was going to be a great family, Covid safe activity and the perfect birthday present. We signed up for it online. We chose the 30 minute session (max 6 people). We requested for Kaitlyn and Kolohe coz we enjoyed them so much last time. As a military and kamaaina you also get 10% off. Purchase with regular price and then once you are there show your ID and get the discount refunded. Super easy and fast refund too. You need to wear your mask all the way upto the pool and then you can take it off. I was so nervous about a 450 pounder swimming up to me, but it was done in the most gentlest way possible. We were able to pet, play, dance and splash with Kolohe. My son absolutely loved the whole experience and honestly could have stayed and played with the dolphin all day. They give you life jackets that are then sanitized and wiped down after you have used them. The water is around 15 feet deep, but you go in slowly. It is cold to take a couple of minutes to acclimate your body to the water. They also have a photographer on hand and he took some great pictures. It is pricey to buy all or even one, but let me tell you it is worth every penny. Memories for life!!! read more

This was my favorite activity that we did in Hawaii. My six year old and I did an encounter where we were able to go in the water and swim / interact with the dolphin. The trainer was so nice and gave us a ton of opportunities to touch and interact with Leho the dolphin. Following our experience, my younger son was able to do a dockside encounter where he could touch and feed the dolphins from a platform without going in. You can tell the dolphins are well cared for and loved. They are given a lot of enrichment activities to participate in and the dolphins seem to enjoy the human interaction. My research prior to this shows that they are a humane training and research facility, and is recommended by professionals over similar experiences on Oahu. read more

I have had a wonderful experience with Dolphin Quest during my stay in Hawaii . This review is overdue as I came here in April , 2023 . I was in a group of six nice ladies and our dolphin trainer Lauren gave each of us enough time with the dolphins . We met male dolphins Kohole , I believe and Lono , named after the Hawaiian god Lono , and also the same name as my dad ! . There were seven male dolphins altogether in a saltwater lagoon like area parallel to the beach at the beautiful Kahala Resort . We learned so much about how to be a dolphin trainer for the day , by learning hand signals and an educational lecture intro . A very nice girl gave us an educational talk at the beginning , and I thought It was very interesting that a little tool that made clicking sounds was used to reward the dolphin with a new behavioral skill . Once in the water , our guide Lauren , and our dolphin trainer was patient , Kind and enthusiastic . The dolphins looked like they were very well cared for and the staff truly loves them . I even got extra tips on how to buy a good fitting pair of goggles for all water related activities and how the dog paddle stroke was a great stroke for beginning open water swimmers . We all had life vests on and I felt completely safe the whole time . And there are opportunities for visitors of all ages , as well as those young at heart ! One of the most interesting facts I learned was to tell the males from the females apart by looking at their slits underneath . The male slits on the underbelly look like exclamation marks and the female's slits look like division symbols . I also thought it was fun to learn how female dolphins don't go through menopause . We learned hands on about the vertical position the males get into for mating . The lagoon looked beautiful and natural and we had other fish swimming in the lagoon with us . So it wasn't just a swimming pool . I learned about sound production in the dolphins , as i noticed the blowhole open as our dolphin friend made his sounds. When my time here was over , the gift store clerk was kind enough to talk about with me about the Kind tide during Hawaii's winter time and how Hawaii's weather could affect trips here in the near future as I hope to return again and can't wait to learn more . I am also extremely happy with our photos and they are well worth it . I would recommend Dolphin Quest to anyone and would love to do this again ! read more

We were assigned to work with the incredibly handsome and in-shape 20 year old Noah. He let us rub his belly and play games with him in the water. We got to hold on to his strong back as he swam and took us along too. Kisses goodbye and then some amazing back flips concluded the experience. Noah was our dolphin. Such an amazing experience. The trainer, Alicia, who swam with us and led the experience couldn't be more perfect for her job. Patient and just genuinely in love with these animals is what she certainly demonstrated to all of us on this tour. Noah is an amazing animal. What a memory too. We played some memory games with shapes with him and he was as accurate as he could have been. This is a once in a lifetime experience. All ages were present. You're in a 14 foot deep lagoon but safely secured in life jackets. There isn't much to navigate in the way of mobility issues. Just a few slippery spots from where you enter the water from the small dock you sit on. The trainers take excellent care of everyone. read more
