I can't be the only one that thinks Dominic's has gone completely downhill. Do they have new management who decided to cut costs? We've been coming for 5 years and up until early 2018, it was our go-to for delicious and fresh salads/sandwiches with homemade doughy bread. The salads/sandwiches and their ingredients are no longer fresh and the last few times we've gone in particular, the ingredients taste, old, wilting, and even rotten. The fresh mozzarella is no longer fresh and a lot of the proteins have an odd after taste to them, like they have been made days prior. Customer service there is really difficult too - forgetting to make online orders and waiting over a half hour on multiple occasions or forgetting components in the salad or sandwich that we paid extra for. I'm taking a break from Dom's and hope someone can come in and revive this old gem. The price point is way too high to have anything but delicious and good quality components. read more

Have never had a bad sandwich from Domenic's. They aren't cheap - but still a better value than some of the other sandwich places in Waltham. I was blown away by their meatball sub with little balls of mozzarella. Bomba is excellent too (hold the eggplant). Chicky Chicky Parm Parm! When you are in a new area and find that the hunger monster has stopped by, you have to do something about it. So what do you do? Grab the handy handy and look up a yelp stop that finds your fancy. And Domenic's did that on this particular day! The chicken was pounded properly and breaded to perfection. The marinara sauce was the right consistency to sit on the bread.....oh the bread, such fantastic bread. Tasted just like it came from the old world! I have eaten a lot of sandwiches here and while the food is pretty good, I will never eat there again. I went in to order a chicken parm and they tried to charge me $4 extra. I told them to delete the order since that was ridiculous. Then I went online to see what my order would be if I ordered online. Yup, $4 less. Blatantly tried to rip me off and I just won't stand for that. I even gave the dude John a chance to explain himself and he stood by his $4 price hike. read more

I used to love Domenics, but the last 4 or 5 times I've gone, it has really been disappointing. The sandwiches are haphazardly made, without much pride. The Parma - once a go-to is now a let down, filled with tough, overly fatty prosciutto and soaking wet bread. Recently, they messed up my take-out order and left out a sandwich. It's a sandwich shop, so a killer sandwich, the chicken parm, gives Domenic's 5 Stars. Period. So here's another thought; this parm was a great 1 napkin sandwich. What that means? It means, it wasn't sloppy. Bread held everything together nicely. And the bread is phenomenal. The sauce was rich AND not messy (as stated above). The chicken was perfect. I am SO VERY sad to report that somewhere in the past year I believe they changed their bread recipe or baking procedure. I have been enjoying Doms for decades and every single time I returned to MA from CA I would make a point of going within 24 hours of my arrival to get what was THE best sandwich I had ever had. I did that for around 10 years and was thrilled to taste my first bite each time. It got to the point that when I was flying back to CA, I would stop in at Doms on the way to Logan and buy 2 or even 3 sandwiches to take on the plane with me. Most recently I returned from living a year in Europe with the same longing for a Dom's Special with extra hots. The thing is, I think they changed their ciabatta. For like 20 years it had that amazing crispy crunch just on the surface and the softer airy inside absorbed all the excellent flavors...now they have a soft crust bread that feels like biting into a sponge. I went twice on this recent trip hoping that the first visit was a fluke. Nope, I am sad to say they have gone backwards to a point that Dominic's will no longer be my spot. read more

First visit: They were closing in 10 minutes but insisted on still serving me (A+), asked if they had the lamb still and they said no because it's a very popular item and come back earlier next time (let that one slide considering they were about to close), and so I decided to just order a chicken parm sandwich (B, the bread they make in house I would say was the only item that really stole the show. Most of my sandwich consisted of a way too much mozzarella cheese and not enough chicken or sauce. I was surprised that they didn't even add any fresh basil to their sauce or even when building the sandwich. Overall: B+, wasn't entirely bad but not what I expected still planned to come back to try again. Second visit: Me and a friend decided to switch things up and come much earlier this time in hopes of trying the legendary lamb. Long story short...not what I expected. For all those out their that enjoy a good roasted lamb this place really knows how to ruin it! Imagine going to a restaurant and ordering the prime rib and instead they serve you deli sliced roast beef. That's how I felt when I got my sandwich :( The lamb was so under-seasoned and was treated like a deli meat instead of Greek delicacy. Anytime I see an Italian deli and bakery doing fresh sandwiches and paninis I have to stop in. The real way to tell a good sandwich spot is to try the Italian. I was about to order when the "Doms special" caught my eye and made an impulse change and got that. Turned out to be a great decision. Capicola, sopressa, mortadella, prosciutto and fresh provolone with all the fixings. The thing that really sets Domenics apart is the great fresh ciabatta bread. A little crunch on the outside soft on the inside. I'd recommend getting it heated up a bit too! can't beat a scratch made sandwich on great bread. If the picture doesn't make you hungry I don't know what will. As I'm writing this a few hours after I went there I'm kicking myself a bit for not getting another. I have had Domenic's in the past and really liked what I got, but yesterday I ordered a meatball sub and a chicken cutlet sub. I took my first bite of the chicken cutlet sub and immediately spit it out. I told my husband it tasted really bad, like fish (which I don't like). He didn't believe me and said "I don't even think they serve any fish". I asked him to try a bite, which he did, and he immediately spit it out too. Not sure what we took a bite of...something with a very pungent taste. I then called Domenic's to let them know about my chicken cutlet sub tasting like fish and he said "we don't have fish", which then made me wonder "what the hell did they give me to eat"???? It just bothers me that they claim to serve "fresh" food, yet they were okay with selling this to a customer. Someone must have known that the chicken (if that's even what it was) was expired, right??? read more

Domenic's - where you can order the same salad every time and it's made differently each time. Unless you walk the staff through how to make an antipasto salad and inspect it before you leave, it will likely be made incorrectly. Food here is good but the staff is constantly changing and doesn't know how to make menu items properly or follow directions. I want to give this place more stars but I'm quite frankly tired of paying steep prices for Italian staples and having to watch them like hawks to make sure they don't add or substitute the ingredients incorrectly. read more

Not from the area. Tried two different sandwiches, the chicken parm panini and the domenics sandwich. Both were good. The Domenic's was delicious and I recommend adding the red peppers olives and capers. We also tried the risotto ball with ham and cheese and it was amazing. Order more than one (we didn't know the order was just one and they were so good it would have been awesome to have more). Inexpensive and you can order online. read more

I got the worst food poisoning of my life after eating a grilled chicken Caesar salad from Dom's and had to white knuckle it home in my brand new car while trying not to spew everywhere. For such a violent reaction to come on that swiftly, it had to have been food poisoning (it was the only thing I'd eaten that day). While I agree with the majority that this place is amazing and I originally gave it 5 stars, I am now only giving it 4 stars. Mostly because I'm a bad orderer. I get nervous in there, with so many people behind the counter harassing you to place your order, and so many people waiting in line. I never seem to have time to read the menu so I always respond with the same, knee-jerk "eggplant parmesan please". It's delicious and the bread holds up to it nicely. Eggplant is pretty delicate and a tad soggy, so you need a bread that can support it and not fall apart. But, you also can't have a bread that is too chewy and crusty for such a delicate filling. This bread is the perfect balance. And the eggplant is very good. The slices are a little too thin for my liking but the sauce is very good. It truly is a 4-star sandwich. I just wish I knew what to order at Domenic's to get the 5 star experience, because I know it exists. I re-read my previous review and I know it can't be the pizza or the salad that will put me over the 5-star edge. I'm going to keep looking. read more

Hmmm...where do I start??? I guess I should start with how the hell do the people who give this place a 5 star rating only write a mere 2-3 sentences?!?!?! Like really?!??!? If your going to give this place a 5 star rating then please elaborate on how great the food was and why it is worth the five stars. Enough of this... This place is more of a fast food/take out/catering type place I guess because there wasn't any table service or many tables. So we decided to do take out. We ordered our food and jet set our way home for dinner. We get home, unpack our order and OOooh boy was I was disappointed. I should have seen this coming as the food was precooked (Parmigiana, Lasagna, pizza, etc) in a glass behind the counter. But I wanted something hot and freshly cooked so I ordered the fusili chicken & broccoli, which was on the menu but not with the other precooked items. So I figured they'd have to make it fresh. My friend orders the breaded chicken with sauce but no cheese, which was precooked. I placed my order with a female who went directly back to the kitchen to make my food. There was an older white haired man though who took my friends order, he says do you want the family combo or one piece? My friend answers the family combo thinking he'd get bigger portions considering it was called "the family combo". Lets talk about what we actually got and how it tasted. Holly crappola!! My fusili chicken and broccoli was bland as bland gets. I think I tasted only a DROP of salt, olive oil, and garlic. The broccoli was so over cooked that it wasn't green or in tact anymore, it was mushed up. It must have been boiled forever. I was so angry and disgusted I only ate the penne, bitching, with a sad starving face too. Thank god it was small but then again that thing cost me $10. The friends dish?? Hmmm...his portion was in the same small container as mine, mind you he ordered the "family combo". His dish consisted of 2 small pieces of breaded chicken breast with tomato sauce on top, all of this on top of a few pieces of penne. He took his first bite and the first thing he said was "dang, this is cold, I would have thought they'd warm this up and the chicken is sort of dry". This cost him about $15. I will never, ever, go back to this place again nor would I ever recommend it to even my worse enemy. Thanks to this place I will probably not have italian for another year. read more

Domenic's is my favorite lunch spot near work. Great panini made fresh on incredibly tasty bread, delicious pastries, and pasta dishes that bring in the crowds at lunch day in and day out. There's always a line, but it moves pretty quickly, so don't fret, you wont be waiting long. I'm addicted to their chicken parm, but I've had just about everything on the menu and it's all been delicious. Great place to sit outside and have lunch in the summer or grab some sanwiches to go. read more
