Very nice atmosphere. Friendly and efficient service. The food varies from excellent (the porcini souffle) to so-so ( the veal scallopine). The lobster ravioli did not have enough lobster. Fundamental issue is value. They have become too pricey , even in today's world of inflation, cost of labor and ingredients etc. That said, with a little more refinement in the kitchen and a more reasonable price point, this would, as it was in the past, be one of the best restaurants in the area. read more

The beet salad was perfect with hazelnut crumbles. The lamb chops was perfectly medium rare and the scallops were fresh and perfectly seared on mashed potatoes parsnips! The pistachio Baked Alaska was good! It was a first class meal and my favorite Italian restaurant in Waltham. I will come here again! The service was professional and ambience was contemporary chic. It's the first time I visited ll Capriccio and was impressed by the quality of their food and service. We booked a table for 8 on a Monday night and were given a private room. The place was clean and the hostess was friendly. Our private room was spacious and inviting. They do have outdoor seating and it looked nice. Food was amazingly good as they used fresh and high quality ingredients. Our waitress Ann recommended the Giannone Chicken 'Schnitzel and it was one of the best chicken dishes we had tried. The chicken breast was crispy outside and moist inside. There was a fried egg on top of the chicken and the smooth buttery flavor of the egg yolk enhanced the taste of the chicken. Veal Scaloppine Valle d'Aosta was a great option for veal lover. It was tender and the Porcini Marsala sauce had a delicate flavor. Also we tried two fish dishes and they were both delicious and fresh. Our server Ann was excellent and knowledgeable about all the items on the menu. She provided good suggestions for us. Having such a great server made our experience more enjoyable. Lastly they had a few options for non alcoholic mixed beverages. So it is a really good place to bring your family and friends here. Who doesn't like having a delicious drink in a cute cocktail glass while eating a delicious dinner? I am highly recommend this place and will definitely go back. read more

My experience at Il Capriccio was spectacular, from the amazing food to the great service. You could definitely taste that the food was very high quality, making the prices worth it. We started off with two drinks which were refreshing. My friend got the Sangria Rossa (which was very sweet but yummy) and I got the Strawberry Negroni (which was a bit on the stronger end but still great)! The escargot was excellent. We loved the Tarragon Cream as it was very rich and flavorful. The cream sauce paired incredibly well with the escargot and the herbed polenta. The herbed polenta was a bit crispy yet soft in the middle, which was delicious. I also really liked the Gnocchi I got, which was very creative with the apples, pears, and walnuts. I do wish there was a bit more sauce, but the quality and freshness of the gnocchi really stole the show. The pappardelle was also really yummy and the rabbit didn't taste overcooked at all. To end the night, my friend and I shared a Warm Pear and Almond Tart with Prune Armagnac Ice Cream. The liquor was super strong in the ice cream but was delicious nonetheless. I loved how fresh the fruit was and it was clear that the cream was made in-house. Throughout it all, our server would check up on us, provide recommendations, and ask if we wanted more bread. The bread was great as well since it was warm and fluffy! Overall, I'm super excited to come here again. The menu changes every month but there are always a lot of creative dishes that sound delicious! read more

Had the best Carbonara here, including my time in Italy. The Endive salad was sensational. It's pricey, but one of the few restaurants that are worth what you pay. Host was terrific. 98? "Phantom Gourmet" once gave Arrows in ME a 99 rating, deducting 1 point for price. Il Cap is close. I usually order "creative" dishes, but stuck with salad and chicken tonight. The best. Caesar salad was superb, as was chicken schnitzel. Dessert with mint choc chip ice cream had real mint. Wife also enjoyed her salmon and mussels. Deduct 1 point for their not having small forks for mussels, and 1 for every dish having same steamed vegetables (not listed on menu). read more

I have now been to this restaurant several times over the last two years. It is outstanding and may be the very best restaurant in the Boston area, including Boston. I am partial to the flounder when they have it, versus the halibut but that's just personal preference. The spaetzle is scrumptious. The mushroom souffle delicious. Service excellent. Parking is behind the building or on the street. I don't enjoy the ambiance as much as I did in the old place. I wish the chairs had cushions and arms. They are uncomfortable for me but I am older now. I have occasionally gone to this restaurant for 38 years or so. Give or take. I like creature comforts but that is me. I live in Waltham so I consider it my weeknight treat. And it is a treat. read more

We went to this restaurant for a birthday celebration. We had a wonderful meal. In terms of ambiance, the room was nicely decorated. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and provided great service. We had the signature soufflé porcini for appetizer. It was a rich and creamy appetizer full of mushroom flavor. We also had squid stuffed sausage and clam, which was also delicious. For entrees, we had mushroom risotto, pan seared scallop, and lamb. The scallops were cooked well but there were only four of them and they were not big, but it was tasty. The lamb was prepared perfectly. Mushroom risotto was a bit too salty to my liking. The cocktail was very good. All in all, although we had minor complaints, we still consider it as a great meal at this restaurant. read more

Well executed traditional Italian fare with fantastic service. The meat (veal, schnitzel and carpaccio) were all prepared perfectly and the accompanying flavors were unique but stayed true to the original dish. The service at il capriccio has always been fast and engaging without over-burdening. Of course, nothing beats the old Il Capriccio with it eccentric and warm ambience, but the Il capriccio at the newer location still boasts friendly, knowledgeable servers, wonderful bartenders, and the incomparable Jan for wine selection. And the food and drink are still very good. I prefer the appetizers, salads and pasta to the entrees. The liver pate with cornichons and balsamic caramelized onion was out of this world - perfectly smooth silky texture with perfectly pronounced warm spices. The gem lettuce Caesar salad with smoked blue fish was a stroke of genius, the blue fish elevating a Caesar salad to something different and very tasty. The pastas are always very well made and perfectly cooked, and the ragu sauces tend to be very good. While not on the menu, the Basque cake is one of the best desserts I have ever had - a creamy cake with a beautifully browned top served with blueberry compote was savory, light, elegant - just sublime. Although not as special as the old bar with it cozy feel and the 'parrot light' light at the end of the bar, it's still the best seat in the house. The bartenders make mighty cocktails served in beautiful, elegant glassware. Il Capriccio is still a special place. read more

I can only speak to the dish i had, but if it represents the rest of kitchen's abilities its truly disappointing. I ordered the gnocchi with wild mushrooms. Due to the cold cheese added on top and the use of reconstituted mushrooms the dish comes out to be a bland and wet mess. There is no sauce causing the gnocchi to sit in cold cheese water and hence tasting like pure sadness and not the pillows of love they should be. read more

We dined at Il Capriccio on Friday night. We originally had 20 family members and reserved two private rooms for 10 each. With all the travel hiccups, we ended up with only 14. Our server, Linda, and the restaurant manager were all amazing and completely flexible with us. We squeezed all 14 into one room and had a great evening. The food was just amazing and the service was perfect. A very extensive wine list certainly helped the family spirits. The appetizers in particular are creative and delicious. I enjoyed the gravlax plate and our party also raved about the waygu beef carpaccio, caprice salad, and the mushroom soufflé (which was so good they we're talking about it two days later). The entrées were just as great. My Italian wife says the carbonara was light and perfectly seasoned, the best she'd ever had. The halibut was perfect and the gnocchi also got high compliments. To top it off, we enjoyed the several chocolate lava cakes (including one extra that Linda added on the house). And don't miss the port wine list. Extensive choices of impressive age! read more

Recently celebrated a milestone birthday here. We were a group of six (with reservations) and, much to our surprised delight, were shown into a private dining room. The service was attentive without being fussy or intrusive, the food was outstanding, and the private room cozy but not stuffy. The restaurant surprised me with a complimentary birthday dessert beautifully plated and plentiful enough to share. Really nice touch. I thought I'd miss the wonderfully quirky and cozy old site, but this one is lovely. The outside patio looked spacious and comfortable as well. read more

Our server was Vinny and he was outstanding. We had a Napa valley Cabernet along with a couple of cocktails . For dinner we had the pappardelle rabbit ragú, the charcuterie plate and the cinnamon ice cream. All we're out of this world. On our way out we stopped at the bar for a drink and my wife lost the back to her earring and one of the servers (Liz) briefly helped us look, with no luck. Fast forwarding to the end of 2021, the new Il Capriccio at the Main St. location, a nice blend of modern and traditional styles, has become a second home. A highlight of the beginning of each month is looking at the ever-evolving Il Capriccio menu. I only ordered a roasted beet salad and a lasagne, but got to try a lot of items that others ordered: lamb chops, haddock, steak, clams, soft shell crab. All great. Especially the clams were much better than anywhere else. The lasagne is better than any other Italian place around Boston. The soft shell crab was a failure and cannot be recommended. The wine list is enormous. "Philip" was recommended by the waitress and a good wine for an Italian. The Chianti I picked afterwards unfortunately was nothing to write home about, but not terrible. Full disclosure: I do not like Italian wines although/because I spent part of my teenage years in Italy. Small winery, local production wines are fine, but what ever Italy export is mediocre and/or overpriced. read more

The restaurant's acoustics are pretty bad. It is quite loud when only half full. The chairs are hard and rather uncomfortable. Our service was noticeably slow. My lamb was overdone ($42) but the vegetables were perfect. For the price, this place should try much harder. read more

Overall: Clean, elegant, friendly with well prepared offerings. Superb diverse wine list that has many hard to find and many affordable offerings. Tell the staff what you like and they will know what to suggest. Several lovely wines by the glass. We had a biodynamic red from northern Italy which pleased everyone- a dolchetto (despite its name it is not sweet) The ribolita soup (veg bean) is a classic Florentine dish (sans bread due to gluten free diets) that I wish I would see more often. Two of our group had the meaty special, a quail stuffed with prosciutto wrapped veal. One had a half plate of rabbit ragu gnocchi and another had a carbonara, all prepared lovingly. Desserts were not needed but enjoyed- Had the baked Alaska and loved the freshness of the strawberry ice cream. You can celebrate to to max here, with four courses and desert or have an excellent supper that won't break the bank. Soup and salad; have half a plate of pasta and share an entree; glass of wine and antipasti would all be satisfying. And no, I don't own or work at the place. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect from Il Capriccio (I was on a business trip for the first time and did not plan out where to dine like I usually do), but once I took a look at the menu I had high hopes for the food here. Like most Italian restaurants, this place served free bread. The bread tasted okay, but I didn't like how they were served cold. I ordered the Steamed PEI Mussels and a small Lobster & Sweet Pepper Risotto. The portion for the small risotto was almost like an appetizer, but the amount of mussels I got was like the size of an entree. The mussels tasted fresh and had a nice texture. The risotto seemed a bit overcooked to me, but it was still delicious and I was glad they did not skimp on the lobster. For dessert, I ordered the Marscapone Cheesecake w/ Pecan Crust and Blueberry Compote. I liked the incorporation of marscapone cheese because it created a lighter texture in the cheesecake and didn't taste as heavy. I liked how the restaurant used pecans as the crust, and I also enjoyed the blueberry compote. I liked how the chefs put a lot of effort into the presentation.
