The pulled BBQ sandwich had a lot of meat in it and sauce was tangy and delicious. Although we were stuffed, we had to have the banana pudding for dessert! Yum! But you don't have to take my word for it, you have to go try it yourself!

Yes, this place is take out only. The menu is focused on stuff that's smoked. We got sweet potato fries, smoked chicken quesadilla, and a smoked chicken sandwich. When my hubby ordered the fries, they said they have a topping for the fries that involves powdered sugar and maple syrup. He declined, since we were looking for a savory side and I hate maple. For $9 the fries were not plentiful, but they were very good and hot. Crispy, but not salted. We used our little provided salt packets to salt them. BTW, there are no sauces on offer either so a side of ketchup or bbq sauce was not available. Perhaps it is available on request. The smoked chicken quesadilla was good. It did come with salsa and sour cream on the side, but I could have used more salsa. It had around 8 pieces and I brought the leftovers home. I liked that it had peppers and onions in there, would have liked more. The chicken was good. The quesadilla was very hot. (I really don't enjoy cold food that is supposed to be hot, so this is a thing with me) My husband wanted the smoked burger bacon cheeseburger that was on the menu, but they said they don't have it anymore. He made a last minute decision to get the smoked chicken sandwich. (He thought afterwards that he should have gotten pulled pork). The sandwich was generous, with two chicken breasts well smoked. The bite I had was dry, but he said after you got into the sandwich there was tomato which helped things. In my opinion, all BBQ places should offer extra sauce on the side. And since we were at a non food serving bar (1405 Saloon next door) there was no ketchup or mustard that we could add. The sandwich was also piping hot (good thing). I suggested he could put some of the Cole slaw inside the sandwich, but he did not want to do that because my crazy-for-Coleslaw hubby did not like it! He said it was store bought and very sweet. It did look store bought. IMHO, all BBQ places should make their own slaw. Come on, it isn't that hard. This is all about the change, as the bartender at the saloon told us that Dex N Angie House of Flavor will be moving to larger quarters down the street and will be adding Cajun food to their menu. It isn't determined yet what will be filling their old location, but it seems per bartender that several other local and food truck businesses are in the running.

I ordered the grilled wings with buffalo sauce and a steak wrap that came with a creamy worchestishire (worsterchire... Worcestershire... there it is. I knew autocorrect would kick in eventually.) sauce on it. I very much liked the grilled wings, I've never been to a place that doesn't just deep fry them and as a diabetic without a gallbladder, I generally don't get to have wings. It was a nice texture and I rather enjoyed them. I did make the mistake of eating them first though, which was great for the wings BUT not great for my wrap because while the sauce on it was delicious, it made my wrap completely soggy. It would be infinitely better on the side, or learn from my mistake and eat the wrap first so you can enjoy the taste AND the texture. The ambiance is pretty cool if you are into sports bars. There are approximately 114 big screen TVs hanging around the place playing all the sports, and one playing trivia, which is more my jam. The bartenders were all super friendly and the locals were all super nice too. Apparently they do half off wings or BOGO wings on Mondays, which everyone recommends coming back for like they do. This was a very pleasant way to spend the evening when I was visiting a new town by my lonesome.

It's got that perfect mix of sports bar energy and casual family dining. The bar side has the buzz, the restaurant side is a little more chill, and both have plenty of TVs if you're here to catch the game. The staff is consistently friendly and quick, even on busy nights, and the food is always solid. Wings, burgers, wraps -- we've tried a little of everything, and it's all good. (Special shoutout to their fries -- crispy, golden perfection.) When it comes to wings, we're partial to ordering them "well Wally wet" -- trust me, that's the move. The guys love the "everything sauce," which is exactly what it sounds like: a mix of all their sauces in one glorious combo. You can even order all flats for a small upcharge, which is a nice touch for fellow wing purists. We just celebrated our son's 20th birthday here, and the GM surprised us by buying dessert for the table. Totally unexpected and so appreciated! It's little touches like that that make a place feel local-loved rather than just local-known. Whether you're watching the game, grabbing dinner after work, just giving your kitchen a night off, or having a celebration, Houligan's Palm Coast is one of those dependable spots that never misses.
