Terrible service, ok food When I gave them the name for my order they kept accusing me that they didn't have it. Then when they found it they told me I gave them the wrong name then proceeded to say the same exact name that i told them 20 times. Also took 15 minutes for someone to eventually help me. The food here is delicious! I started with the miso soup and seaweed salad (so fresh). I got the California roll and the tornado roll. My boyfriend got the Hawaiian roll, Philly roll and crunchy yellowtail. The fish is so fresh and tastes so yummy! I finished off with some green tea icecream and it was amazing! read more

Ugh it pains me to write this because I loved coming here so much for my weekly sushi lunch but the quality has changed and it's nothing like it used to be. The "tuna" was very dark in color and hard to chew threw the white part, the squid was fishy. I really hope things improve but I'm going to pass for now read more

This is a great restaurant. We went at noon on a Saturday. Service was prompt, friendly and the food wonderfully tasty. My wife got a special called an Evergreen Roll, and I got the Tokyo Roll. The Tokyo Roll was the favorite to both of us. We also loved the appetizer we ordered, which was the spicy calamari. It was not only really tasty but also a large portion. Prices were fair for the quality they offer. Definitely a restaurant you should check out. read more

5 stars for GREAT hibachi experience all around. I've been coming to Domo 7 for years and have never had a bad experience, so when I saw how badly people have reviewed this place I decided to write one of my own. For years I went to their other location on rt. 22 in Whitehouse, which was around before this one opened, and doesn't have hibachi) and it was always a wonderful time. The manager (I think?) always remembered us, and she was so friendly and accommodating. We lovedddd the sushi and yaki udon noodles. When the Chester location opened, we started coming here because it was closer. YES, the service can be slow at times and somehow they haven't managed to fix it despite being around for a while. HOWEVER, the servers and hibachi chefs are friendly, funny and happy to help. The hibachi is DELICIOUS and well cooked (the rice is my absolute favorite part). Not as salty/heavy/buttery as many other places. The sushi isn't the best I've had, and I usually go elsewhere for sushi. Despite sometimes slow wait staff, this place deserves for you to give it's hibachi a shot! read more

I decided to try this place out the weekend before Christmas since I really didn't feel like cooking. I dropped in to make a to-go order while The Man stopped into the pizza place next door to grab something for himself (review coming soon). From what I could see from the entryway, the dining area is split into two areas - the front has hibachi tables to the left with a few smaller dining tables to the right and regular dining tables in the back. I was greeted promptly and put in an order for tempura vegetables and a 2 maki roll lunch (tuna avocado and salmon avocado). I was told it would take about 15 minutes for my order to be ready, so I took a seat near the register to wait. It was about 10 minutes later that my order arrived and I shuffled out the door to enjoy my meal. We only live a few miles away, so my food was still warm when I got home. I immediately started on my miso soup to help warm up from the chill outside. Pretty standard stuff, and nothing really stood out about it. We next opened up the tempura vegetables so The Man could have a bit while I ate my sushi. Despite having been packed, the tempura still had a little bit of crunch left when we ate it. Again, pretty standard and didn't really leave an impression either way. I dug into my rolls and hate half of them before I came up for air - not because they were especially good, but because I was so hungry. Once I slowed down a little, I paid more attention to the rolls themselves. The tuna and salmon had nice texture, but not much flavor. They weren't bad, but honestly, I've had similar quality buying sushi at the supermarket. Domo 7 wasn't awful, but they definitely won't be my first choice when I'm looking for sushi. For the prices they charge, I really expected more from them. I could drive a little bit further and find sushi just as good but for significantly less. The convenience of it being near home (and the places I run errands) means I will likely order from them again, but they aren't my first choice. read more

We have been coming here for almost two years and the food is consistent. It's not the best hibachi restaurant we have been to but not the worst. Good points are that the hibachi chefs do a good show and they make tasty food. The sushi is fresh. The rolls are inventive. The bento is good for its price point. Now for what has happened tonight. My husband, our two kids and I arrived at about six Ish for dinner to a quiet restaurant. There was one other table in the Texan area that was seated and no one was seated at the Hibachi tables. I could not see into the sushi area to tell if they were busy or not. We were seated in a corner and had ordered (twice because we accidentally placed the order the first time with the bus boy) and were eating soups and salads when a party of six walked in. They were seated at our table but the guys placed them in a way that they will be uncomfortable the tables are set for 9 and they were squeezing in an extra person and even though it sounds ok, they originally placed the high chair by the grill which would eventually be moved. After they were seated, the service was still slow to take their orders and they forgot to bring us the beer glasses we requested as well as a hand roll that I had ordered. Then more groups trickled in. The staff did their best to accommodate but were obviously in over their heads because items were missed, the food was not cooked to its usual caliber and one group eventually just walked out. During all of this. I took my daughter to the restroom and there was something streaked on the toilet seat. I had to clean the bathroom before she could use it. For people looking to try this place out, I am hoping that this was just a singular occasion where Domo 7 is just understaffed. The service was so much improved yesterday when my husband and I decided to grab dinner out. The restaurant is located in the Shop Rite shopping mall. On the previous 2 trips to Domo 7, the service was slow and the waiters hardly come to the table to check on us. But last night, all was different. Our orders were taken promptly and our entrees came out just as fast. The Bento boxes are a bit pricey but plentiful. You never leave hungry. The salmon box was delicious. I asked for regular tuna and not spicy tuna sushi which regularly comes with the box. My husband's choice was the chicken teriyaki bento box. That looked and tasted good as well. This place should be named Don't go Japanese not Domo. I hardly ever write reviews but this place was such a disappointment I had too. First I will start with how I was looking for an authentic Japanese restaurant and that was not the case. The portions for the Hibachi were so small. To give you an idea we had a few children at our table and they order the kids hibachi and I am not lying when I say mine and my husbands portions were equal. Typically I always am full and have left overs when we eat Hibachi but not this time!!! The icing on the cake here is we ordered the fried ice cream desert which I always have enjoyed at other establishments well when we got our desert we noticed the "ice cream" tasted not like vanilla and realized it was frozen margarine!! I went there as Groupon customer. Everything we order was terrible. We started off with vegetable gyoza, it was like something come out from frozen and it had not taste. Then we tried Sushimi Deluxe, maybe it was Sunday night, their selection of fish were very limited and not fresh. We also ordered some rolls. None of rolls was good. They also used avocado which was hard, almost like having cucumber. They had crunch lobster roll which had no taste of lobster at all. Eel roll was average, plain no real uniqueness. Waiter never came to our table to fill water once it was delivered. Green Tea was in the pot and it was getting darker as we ate the meal. And price was higher for less then average meal. First time here and food and service was excellent. Hubby had the rainbow sushi as an appetizer and said it was very good and filling. He didn't need the hibachi dinner afterwards. Hibachi was great. My 7 year old son went for first time and loved it. They did the volcano, butterfly, and other typical tricks. Have experienced others with more showmanship. Will go back. The food is fresh enough, but tasteless. I had a salmon roll and a California roll and while both were edible, they were fairly flavorless,the rice did nothing for those rolls.. and the seaweed was a little dry and tough. The agedashi tofu, conversely, was pretty good. I will also note for the sake of non locals who might be shopping in the area and tempted..that this is not the most comfortable dining scenario if you go alone. Most places don't make me uncomfortable but this one felt palpably awkward. Perhaps that can't be helped; its suburban NJ... Now I know this doesn't always happen there but...A woman knocked over my flowers with her oversized hand bag during my meal drenching my food and my table and watching the chaos unfold without one word of , " excuse me", or "would you like a napkin".
