My brothers and I have gone here for each of our birthdays for the past decade straight. It is hands down our favorite restaurant of all time. Many hibachi places are solid but Shogun is levels above the rest. Their noodles will have you asking for an extra serving or two and the staff is always extremely welcoming. Talked away in a strip mall on route 59, we discovered this little job of hibachi and sushi spot! We had hibachi, and the server was right! It definitely sent us straight into food, coma, especially with the insane amount of butter they added. But wow, it was worth it! The food was absolutely delicious. The service was fantastic and the restaurant I've had a really unique vibe. I unfortunately was unable to take a picture of my actual meal however they do serve soup and salad with hibachi. Not a huge hibachi fan anyway, but this really was one of the worst that I've had. Way too much rice, not enough meat, and the only vegetables were onions and carrots. The place is super tired. It really needs a decent overhaul to attract any diners. I'm sure it was great 20 years ago, but too many other great options near Fox Valley Mall. read more

I enjoyed the chef who I believe was going by the name of Adam (ok?) I enjoyed the shrimp with egg yolk combo. Other others in my group had the hibachi chicken and scallops combo, somebody had the steak and shrimp combo, another had chicken teriyaki. Appetizer was noodle scallops. Had miso soup very tasty. Very entertained by the chef's antics, had a nice dialogue with him. Quite an interesting and fun place. Definitely worth going to and I would go again. Bathrooms were clean parking is a little tight because of the fact that not only do they share businesses but whatever designed the parking lot put everything on a weird angle and there's a severe lack of parking right by Shogun. Expect a bit of a hike to your car and back. Not the restaurants fault though. I'd love to bring the engineer and designer in and force them to park their car in front of the restaurant and then try to access their car after the meal. We have a group of 8 people for New Year's Eve. Has a hard time finding a place that had room. This place was great. When you walk in, you wait in a bar area to be seated. The walls are COVERED in Polaroids of past guest parties. Absolutely everywhere. We looked and saw pics that dated back to the late 1980s so we figured this place had to be good. It's been in business forever. Once we were seated the server was alittle slow to come greet us. She was not super attentive and seemed like she wasn't listening but she got all of the orders correct. The grill ninja guy was great. Loved him. He put on a great show and was very personable. He also did an amazing job with the food. Everything was amazing. We have been talking about it for days how good it was. We are from Ohio so we were just in town for the holiday staying with friends. No one had been to this place and all of us were left very satisfied. They all said they would be back for sure. Best hibachi they had all been to in the area. My husband has a shellfish allergy, which our hill ninja asked about up front, and then left all the seafood til the end to cook up last. The soup was flavorful and delicious. The salads were great. Loved the dressing. There was a lot of it and the flavor was on point. I got steak and glazed honey chicken. They said it was spicy and I'm kind of a wuss but the flavor sounded good enough to try it. I was not disappointed. The chicken was amazing. It had a kick but it wasn't burn your face off. The steak was delicious. The yum yum sauce was delicious. The noodles. Omg the noodles. You get both noodles and rice here. The noodles were amazing. I could have been happy just eating those. My mai tai was decent. Pretty sweet. Didn't seem super strong. But it was good. The group did sake bombs. They were $14 which felt alittle steep but everyone had fun with them. I had been hearing so much about Shogun and its hibachi food that I decided to finally stop by and give it a try myself. Right off the bat, the inside is very aesthetic and there's Polaroids all over the walls from YEARS ago, showcasing all the different celebrations that have taken place here for so long. Even to this day, they snap a picture of you at the end of your meal and give you the picture to hang somewhere in the restaurant, which you can find when you come back! They start off with soup and salad, which is light and refreshing. Theres also tons of appetizer options on the menu, we didn't have any ourselves but a lot of people around us did and liked it a lot. The food consisted of choice of meat, veggies, rice, AND noodles. Most hibachi places offer rice OR noodles so this was a great surprise! I got the chicken and veggie and my husband got the steak and shrimp. I will say that Shogun is on the sweeter side when it comes to hibachi. Every single thing on my plate tasted more sweet than salty or spicy. We did have to order some hot sauce on the side to balance everything out, but if you enjoy sweet, you'll love it. Everything was well cooked, well flavored, and came in huge quantities so there's always tons to take home. The noodles were amazing so I would definitely order extra when you visit because they're so soft and your plate is finished before you know it! It's a great spot for celebrating anniversaries and birthdays because the chefs are always so fun and watching the food get prepared in front of you is such a treat! Positives - appreciated not being seated with strangers in this post Covid world, the photo with our family was a nice touch.. the kids were excited to find a spot for it. Negatives- take a photo of the three page menu at the front so you know what to order at your seats after you sit down (huh)? charged $5 for them to sing happy birthday with a slice of pineapple, and an oddly itemized bill without descriptions of what we ordered made it difficult to understand what we were charged for. Be aware this restaurant doesn't care about getting people sick. The mishandling of the situation was incredibly. 3 out of 5 people in my party got sick the night of November 1st; instead of addressing my concerns with seriousness, they made me feel as if it was an inconvenience to them. They offered no apologies or follow-up measures, nor did they seem interested in investigating the matter further. The lack of concert of customer health and safety is unacceptable. This place isnt what it used to be. We used to come here several times per year for birthdays/special occasions and always had a great time. We came the other day for the first time since moving back home from out of state with family and were very disappointed in the experience. The chef was nice but mediocre, seemed like he was very tired and/or overworked. His little performance was just okay. The staff at the front were not friendly, they seemed like they did not want to be there. We were told to scan the QR code at the front for the menu before being seated - they do not get great reception in there for any cell services so it is hard to pull up (different members of our group have different services and it took us all a long several minutes to load). A lady, whom I can only assume to be an owner/manager, sat at a back table the entire time playing with silverware. She was not walking around talking to guests or doing table touches. The place itself is dark and a bit old feeling. I was also surprised they were so dead for a Friday night at dinner time - only 3 tables. At least we got our own table! Personally, my food was good, but very greasy/oily. I had 3 family members get extremely sick after eating here-all with GI upsets. We believe it may have been the soup, as myself and my child did not get sick, but we were the only ones to not eat the soup. My husband called to inform them about the sicknesses and he said the lady on the phone didnt seem concerned, and didnt seem like she knew what she was doing. My family of 6 went impromptu as my sister recommended it. The drinks were horrible. The sprite tasted like the fountain needed to be cleaned. The chef was okay however, it wasn't much of a show, Unlike other Hibachi places I've been to. Also, they do not include "fried Rice" with the meal, it is literally $3 extra per person. This is the FIRST time I have ever had to pay for fried rice separately when the part of the reason most eat hibachi is because of the fried rice. Total Rip off and def not worth $245. My friends and I came here to celebrate a birthday hibachi style, and apparently about a hundred other people and their grandmas were also celebrating a bithday. It's just a great way to celebrate - with a show and a food. The walls are covered with pictures of people who have celebrated here over the past 20 years. I made reservations but the restaurant was so packed, I had to wait 30 minutes for a table to open up. We weren't able to get a drink while we waited because all the servers were busy and there was no dedicated bartender. A table can fit 8-10 people comfortably. Our chef was good, telling jokes and performing tricks while cooking our food. The birthday boy was in the mood for golden sauce (aka egg yolk sauce or Tokyo egg sauce) and he was not disappointed. The sauce only comes with the shrimp entrée, but you can order it on the side for $2 extra to put it on everything, which is what you want to do. Each entrée comes with a shrimp appetizer, miso soup, salad, and rice. Fried rice cost extra, but you might as well go all in. The salad dressing was really good and I actually wished I had a little more ice burg lettuce to go with it. Just coming in the door, the place is very dark. The floors were sticky and the ones in the bathroom (my husband's words) were so sticky it felt he had stepped into warm tar. The chef was good and the order was taken well. But the water had a horrible taste and smell, and since the rice is cooked in the same water, the rice had the same taste and smell the water did. Also the fountain drinks. And 2 of the 3 adults got sick right away. Never a good ending and just ruins the whole night. NEVER will come here again. read more

The food was good but nor qlly it is fantastic. Cook had an attitude for some weird reason. Nobody refilled our drinks we had to wave them down(it was not busy). It's a Wednesday evening, and I missed their food. We are very low maintenance(I'm a server/bartender). Then they drop off the check they hit me with a 20% gratuity for the first time ever!!!! For 3 kids and 2 adults. Not 6 or more... and they wrote over the 15%. I'm in shock and normally I tip 30 percent here... My boyfriend and I wanted to try a new restaurant and decided to try out Shogun; we are soo happy we did!! The service was amazing, the hibachi dinner was great, and the meal is reasonably priced. You can see this restaurant values their customers and are excited celebrate their special moments. Our hibachi chef Christian was an absolute delight!!! He really made the experience. I have been going to Shogun for over 10 years so I don't really know where to begin. I almost always get the salmon teriyaki dinner ($16). The dinner includes a shrimp appetizer, soup, salad, vegetables, steamed rice and noodles. I like the fried rice (extra $1.50) and extra noodles ($3)---- so it can get pricey. The soup is just okay--- but the salad is amazing. I believe the ginger based salad dressing is made in house and the best I've ever had. My other favorite thing here is their egg yolk sauce-- smooth, like butter except better. Don't be shy about asking for extra egg yolk sauce! It's supposedly goes over the shrimp appetizer but I ask them to smother my salmon as well (see pics under Cristina. F). Service is polite and efficient. The chefs are friendly/enthusiastic and are always a hit with my family/friends. This is our restaurant of choice for birthdays, graduations etc and the atmosphere is kid friendly. My little sister ordered her first Shirley Temple here, haha. They also have sushi on the menu-- which is okay-- I wouldn't go here for sushi. I guess we always order it in addition to our teriyaki entrees and it usually ends up being a mistake (read: too much food). I also recommend going during lunch for the great deals. Although, my only bad experience at Shogun was at lunch when they appeared understaffed so I guess ~you get what you pay for. read more

An excellent time to visit where the weather is extremely cold and the wind chill hits you sharply in the face. A great time where your face is so cold it burns until you are numb and where your toes are so frozen you can hardly move them. Yes. An excellent time to visit. Luckily, during this cold and blustery trip I was able to visit my aunt and uncle's restaurant. Located in Naperville (about 30 miles from Chicago) I was uber excited. Teppan style food is definitely the way to go in this freezing temperature. I've had my share of Benihana's during my heyday, but Shogun is far from that. FAR. Better quality food, fresh ingredients, better service and most importantly delicious food. My favorites: the filet mignon, shrimp with egg yolk, and noodles (included in the dinner). An amazing time with family, great entertainment and great food! Who can go wrong with that? This is my favorite place to go when I'm visiting the Midwest. The best place where I can see my family (literally) and a place for good eats. So, as I am back in Los Angeles, I droll as I write and only wish I can be back with my family soon. It's a great little place tucked away into an underwhelming strip mall, but once you walk in you'll be greeted and welcomed warmly. This place may not strike you as being much from the outside. It's in an older strip mall, and even once you get inside you'll probably still go "..." Dark, low-ceilinged, with Polariods stuck to the walls, it has the look of a '70s piano bar somehow. But the FOOD.... Here are the rules. Come hungry. Like, don't eat all day. ANYTHING. And don't fill up on the salad and soup they give you at first. This will take up precious room in your stomach that you should be saving for the awesome stuff they will grill up for you on the flat top! Our chef was handy with the tricks and quite clever, so it was an enjoyable show. I've been to similar places where they seem to phone it in, but this guy was ON. I'm not quite sure why you get pan-fried noodles AND fried rice, but you do, and both were really good, but again, don't fill up... My boyfriend and I both ordered sirloin and sea scallops. Next time we'd both skip the steak and just go for the scallops: they were DELICIOUS!!! Tender, cooked through yet not too well-done, with a crustiness on the edge from the grill. A few little criticisms: We got sushi to start (just a few pieces), which were pretty "ehh." Also, I ordered a Mai Tai, which tasted like Hawaiian Punch. Definitely needed more kick.
