I've loved Domo ever since it was a little-known sushi joint in a former Pizza Hut, years ago (even before the owners rebranded it to its current name and classier status). I was very sad indeed after the old Domo closed, and ecstatic when they reopened at their current location. My husband and I are still regulars, but not as hard-core as we used to be. We're enough of regulars that we're recognized by the staff, since we make a point to get our sushi fix here once every month or two when we're on date night, sans five-year-old. Which isn't to say that Domo isn't kid-friendly; we've seen several families dine here successfully with children of all ages. We tend toward less sweet-and-saucy sushi, overall, and we don't do deep fried rolls. That said, there are a few rolls we won't go without. The Black Dragon and Pink Lady are a couple of our highly-sauced favorites, while the Salmon Skin, Shiitake, and Philadelphia are on our short list of less-expensive rolls. Lately, we've been ordering both sashimi (that's sushi sans rice) and rolls, and that makes for a perfect date night dinner. The green tea is this fantastic roasted endless mug of awesome, and all the appetizers we've tried have also been worth the price (although we tend to stick with the edamame). Be careful -- some of the appetizers may as well be entrees, for the size of them! We split the salmon collar once, and we should have ordered one or two fewer rolls to compensate. The downsides to Domo are few and far between. The house salad, while huge, is pretty forgettable for the price. We usually skip it. Also, if you're not careful, dinner can get pretty pricey -- but you're out for sushi, so you're kind of expecting that, right? Oh, and they don't open for dinner until 5pm, so just chill in your car (or at the game store or the comic shop, both nearby) until they unlock the door. The staff is always cordial and makes us feel welcome, and they keep the green tea a-flowing. They have great suggestions, too, especially when the menu changes. I love this place. read more

My friend and I came here because we want some noodle and sushi. It was a pleasant lunch until we were sooo offended by the server - Matt. My friend ordered the Sushi Bento box which includes a California roll, three pcs of Nigiri sushi and four pcs of Sashimi. She can't speak English so she let me ask if we can choose the fish. She told me she only likes salmon and Tuna. I asked Matt if we can only have Salmon or Tuna for our Nigiri and Sashimi in the Bento box, he said "No problem!" He never mentioned there will be any extra charge if we select the fish until we see the bill. There is $4 extra charge for choosing our fish instead of "chef's pick". I questioned about this $4 charge because:1) we were never told before we order and there is no statement on the menu says customers's choice over "chef's choice" will be any extra. 2) Even it does, I don't think the difference worth $4. Because we are NOT choosing the most expensive fish on the menu, it's just the average price fish. The bento box itself only cost $13.95. If we knew it will be $17.95, we would not have ordered this way at all. After I express my concern, Matt's attitude turns into hell. He does not respect his customers at all. He yelled at me, said "yes I didn't tell you in advance which I should have. I'm sorry but that's the price! I'm not gonna do anything about it and now you've already eaten, so you can just pay and leave!" We are shocked by Matt's attitude. I requested to talk to a manager and he told me he is the manager. If I want to talk to the owner I have to call at night. I've eaten at hundreds of restaurants and never met a waiter so rude after he HIMSELF failed to notify the customer the price before they order and tell them "JUST PAY AND LEAVE". I am surprised a good restaurant would hire such a waiter/manager with no manner. And it's definitely not the Japanese culture would tolerate because it values the customer service above all. $4 is not a big amount. For the meal we have as today normally we will pay more than $4 as tip. But today I paid none to Matt. Although we paid our bill, we still think he or the restaurant menu should disclose any charge before guest order. The customer has the very right to know what they are expected to pay for. And I still think to add 30% to the total price just because we wanted Salmon is ridiculous, salmon is NOT 30% more expensive than any other fish and even we didn't ask there would still be some Salmon from the "chef's pick". We didn't really get much "EXTRA". The most unacceptable thing is, after we were blinded about the price, the server Matt yelled to us "Just pay and leave!", I told him I will share my experience with the community but he said he doesn't care. I feel so ashamed to recommend such a restaurant to my friend who has just come to Toledo from Asia for a short visit! Totally ruined our lunch. read more

I was really excited to return to Domo after it had been closed for so long. We were seated right away (even though it was PACKED on a Friday night), and the server greeted us almost immediately. Our drinks, sushi, and appetizers were all under $60 for two people, which was a great deal. The sushi itself was fantastic, just like I remember. Everything was cut and made to order - we sat at the sushi bar and watched them make it. I've heard some people complain about long wait times, but it's not fast food. It's GOOD food, and despite the fact that they will be busy, it's because they're doing it right. It's worth waiting for. read more

First Visit to Domo Sushi after hearing such great reviews, we decided to take the trip to see(taste) for ourselves. First off the decor surprised us by being attractive and very upscale-hip urban for such a small store front. Lively atmosphere. Music was an electric-martini-lounge type music that was a little too loud and hectic for a peaceful Japanese dining experience. Had trouble hearing the waiter and my friend. First course appetizer Potato Korokke was the BEST thing we had. A flavorful fried potato cake much different than other Sushi restaurants. That's were it all ended for me. The "Domomite" sushi roll for $24 that was recommended by waiter as "the best"- was a deep fried roll with a extremely gooey mess of chopped seafood mixed with way too much mayo/cream cheese topped with a slice of Jalapeno and a dot of sriracha. Who made this?? No sushi chef I've ever met. Hard to eat without getting it all over yourself, the plate & the table. The other simple Maki roll we had (I believe "Three Musketeers") was large, but just not impressive in flavor. The seaweed was tough and difficult to chew. Well the potato cake was great enough for me to maybe try again with something else on the menu rather than sushi. Good green tea. The worse part of the visit was the waiter kept asking us if we wanted to "box up our food" 2 times while, obviously, we were still eating. Give me a royal break! Annoying. I'll start this out with this - like many others in this world, I have a severe seafood allergy (that I weirdly developed overnight), so I haven't had sushi since 11/01/11, but this place has a ton of other options! In a town full of strip-mall restaurants, my friends and I went to Domo on a Thursday night and we were all pleasantly surprised. There were about 10 of us, so we called ahead and they had a table ready to go by the time we got there. The setting was placed neatly, the chairs weren't too close together, and everyone working was very welcoming of us. The service was amazing! When we sat down we were quickly greeted and asked if we wanted something to drink. All waters were refilled quickly when the glass was about 1/2-full and all other drinks were offered refills prior to them being completely done. Everyone at the restaurant seemed to be committed to providing great service. Our waitress was awesome - she gave advice, took our orders, and then came back around to confirm them. I hadn't seen someone do that for a large group in a while, but it was something that was appreciated for sure as it always seems like something gets messed up with big groups. Having my food allergy, I of course ordered something without seafood. The kicker (and test of how they make their dishes) was that I did order something that originally had seafood, but had them replace the seafood with vegetables. This was absolutely no problem for them, and the meal turned out great! All of my friends who had sushi loved their meals! They thought the presentation was nicely done and the options were plentiful. I wish I had the chance to try some, but those days maybe long gone for me. Overall, I think this place was great! I'd definitely find myself going back sometime. Coming from a bigger city it's not uncommon to see sushi bars/restaurants have a strong nightlife after traditional working hours - it would be pretty rad to see this place get that feel sometime in the future! read more

Right off the top the sushi chefs and cooks are amazing. Food was outstanding. The only reason this review gets 2 stars instead of one is because of that. Service is total shit. Don't expect to get a drink any time soon. The server literally was talking on the phone while pouring the drinks. Then we got ignored for a solid 30 minutes...DOMO a free piece of advice either get more waiters or take out some of the seats because honestly if you can't handle the capacity you shouldn't screw your guests. What a great place! Went for dinner with friends on the weekend. The wait staff is very courteous and helpful, and let me tell you your glass of water will ALWAYS be full! I had sushi and it was phenomenal. The rolls are very big and I thought the quality was very very good. It is pricy but I think well worth it for the food you get. They also had a menu of noodles and the like but I stuck with the sushi. What I saw coming out of the kitchen looked good though. Wait time for us was about 15 minutes but we were seated before that quoted time. The ambiance is private and the decor in the restaurant was modern. I've been to Domo several times, and overall, I am ambivalent about the restaurant. To start with the positive: overall the food is good. In particular, I greatly enjoy the sushi bar appetizers, which offer interesting possibilities and have always come out excellent. The rolls and kitchen entrees are also pretty good, but not spectacular, and as others have said, for the price you pay at Domo, you expect excellence. Domo also offers an interesting selection of drinks, which I appreciate as I find it fun to sometimes try a new beer or wine with my meal when I go out. If I were reviewing Domo only on the food, I would give 4 stars. However, the service at Domo ranges from bad to awful, and in my experience has been consistently bad no matter what time of day/week I have gone. First off, Domo is incredibly slow at everything. Once you are seated, expect to wait 15-20 minutes for your server to show up and expect very infrequent check-ins. Sushi orders take 30+ minutes even if the restaurant is mostly empty. The hot kitchen is a bit faster, but I don't go to a place like Domo to not order sushi. Overall, when I have gone to Domo to get an appetizer, entree, and dessert, it has taken about 2 hours total, which is much longer than comparable restaurants. Despite the slowness, the staff gives off a vibe of constantly being in a hurry and too busy for you. My waitstaff will show up(after 30 minutes MIA) to ask how things are and then by time I begin to answer they have already started walking away. If you do need something, you have to shout after them. The waitstaff also disappear into the back for long periods of time. This behavior has been consistent across waitstaff, so I am guessing the problem is due to the restaurant management assigning waitstaff responsibilities that make it hard for them to be attentive to patrons rather than a bad waiter or two. Domo certainly has its good qualities, but the experience of eating there will be frustrating for all but the most patient of restaurant goers, and for the prices they charge, I think you can find a better dining experience, sushi or otherwise, elsewhere. read more

Great meals. I started with the asparagus wrapped in beef. If they offered that as an entree I would have ordered it; it was just fantastic. I had the teriyaki shrimp for an entree, and it too was outstanding. The outside was crisp and flavorful, the inside moist with just the righty texture. My wife had the teriyaki salmon, and said the same thing about that as I said about the shrimp. A very attentive staff and good atmosphere earned Domo it's 5th star. read more

When my friend and I are in the mood for good, quality sushi, we always go to Domo. It's not the cheapest in town, but the meal is always delicious. I've never had chirashi anywhere else, but I love the Domo spicy bowl. It tastes as good as it looks, and is full of flavor. My husband and I arrived at 5:40pm on a Friday evening to an almost empty restaurant. The hostess asked us if we had a reservation, which we did not. I specifically checked Domo's website to see if they were requiring reservations and there was no mention of it. The hostess told us she could not seat us without a reservation. Again, there were numerous tables open. She made no attempt to get us a table or even ask if we wanted to wait so we walked out and went to Kyoto Ka; which is where we will go from now on. Not giving us a table in an empty restaurant that nowhere advertises that reservations are required is terrible service. read more

I was unimpressed. There was a pile of trash and food under our table. They weren't super busy and just sat us, it was just not taken care of. The menu is minimal for a sushi place. Very over priced considering the "quality " available. We were told the special was $15 for a particular item, then charged $45 on the bill. The waitress mistook the price but we still got stuck with the price. Had we known 3 pieces of negiri would have been $45 we wouldn't have ordered. To top it all off our waitress keep forgetting things we had asked for. She kept talking about how hung over she was our entire meal and as an excuse for her mistakes. I came here for my birthday and it was so good!! We got some drinks at the bar while we waited for our table. Matt was very attentive. We didn't have to wait too long to get a table. The waitress also was very attentive, but not over bearing.we got dumplings and calamari for appetizers. Both were amazing. For dinner we split a, crab rangoon roll, spicy tuna deluxe, pink lady, philly, and Godzilla rolls. For four people that was the perfect amount.
