We were looking to try a new sushi place and Domodachi came through! We ordered take out, but the staff was so friendly they all gave us big smiles and thanked us for ordering (even the chefs). The spicy tuna roll was amazing and the salmon avocado roll was to DIEEE for. The quality of the sushi was outstanding and you could taste the freshness. 10/10 would definitely recommend this place. I'll be ordered again soon!

Pretty disappointed with this place. The special rolls were good (the crazy salmon was the best thing I ate, fuji mountain was so so). The sashimi and sushi were not good. The fish was too fishy and didn't taste very fresh and we couldn't even finish the platter. Sad because the service was very good :/

Delicious and creative sushi! Loved every roll we tried, this is going to be another one of our favorites in the area. We tried the following specialty rolls: dynamite special, lobster popcorn tempura, wow shrimp tempura, crazy shrimp tempura. They were HUGE and full of flavor. Also tried the spicy scallop and spicy tuna crunchy regular rolls. The spicy mayo is actually spicy here. They gave us a complimentary side of edamame in soy sauce which was delicious served that way. We got delivery via seamless, which had a lot of extra fees, but worth it when you don't want to drive anywhere. Overall the prices of the actual food were not super inflated like others we have been to lately. Would like to dine in at some point too but so happy they deliver all the way to my house! They're also open on Monday when my local place is closed.

One of the best sushi places in the area! The sushi is extremely fresh and tastes amazing! They start the meal by serving soup and edamame on the house. We then got the special sushi for 2 to share. We were so full by the end of the meal that I practically had to crawl out of there!! The service is wonderful and people are very warm. It is byob and there is a liquor store right opposite to the restaurant for people like us who forget to bring a bottle of wine! Overall I'd definitely come here again and again because this is going down as one of my favorite sushi places!

Absolutely love the sushi here! The first time I ate here I underestimated the serving sizes. They definitely don't skimp out on the rolls! The restaurant itself has really great ambience with wooden decor. Staff is super nice and helpful, which makes the dining experience that much better. Seating is on the more limited side so I'd avoid large part sizes. I highly recommend the Fuji Mountain. It's piled high and jam packed with some great stuff! I really want to try some of the kitchen entrees next time because the sushi has been stellar both times we dined here!

This place is SO good. We got the Spicy Salmon Crunchy Avocado, Salmon Mango Avocado, and the Dynamite Roll (Special). All three rolls were amazing. Service was great. Portions were solid. 10/10 experience. My fav was the Spicy Salmon Avocado with crunchies on top and a side of spicy mayo. Definitely will be back

Had gone for lunch yesterday, and I have to say it was great. The sushi was fresh and I LOVED the edamame they served. So good, it's not just salted. Not sure which ones what sushi, but I have to say it was super filling and so good.

Solid sushi! I liked it! It tasted fresh, it was good and the precautions were pretty good when I came to pick up my takeout. We ordered the Sushi for 2 Deluxe and it came with a lot of sushi for $65! I thought it was a good price for what we got (Sushi Deluxe is 24 pieces of sushi, rainbow roll, dynamite roll and california roll). I thought that was a pretty good deal in itself but they also included some free edamame! Usually I'm pretty indifferent to those fuzzy green soy beans but these were yummy! They're seasoned differently than just with salt like how most places do it. Definitely try this place! (FYI- it's located in the old location of Nizi Sushi.)

DomoArigato, DomoDachi! When my Yelp Elite Bro and Sis asked what I was craving for dinner I said, "Whatever." That whatever turned out to be my favorite meal that week. We called ahead for takeout service. We ordered several different rolls, a bulgogi bento box, a chicken katsu bento box, and dumplings which came with miso soup and complimentary edamame. All the rolls were delicious with the flavorful sauces, the crispness of the crunch, the perfectly made sushi rice and the fresh tasting fish. Each bite was enjoyed thoroughly. The dumplings tasted homemade and not from a bag in the freezer section at the grocery. They were stuffed with goodness and did not need to be dipped in the sauce because they were packed with plenty of flavor. My picky, McNugget loving God-kids devoured their bento boxes. I was hoping they didn't want the shumai so I can eat them but alas they loved it and ate it all. Looking forward to visiting DomoDachi again!!

The last Saturday in May. We have ourselves another #YelpsBigNightIn on deck. I wasn't going to pass up the oppor-tuna-ty (warning: low-flying dad puns!) to try a newer sushi place a town over with a perfect 5-star rating here on Yelp. The prior residents at this location (Nizi Sushi) were (and still are) wildly overrated in my humble opinion. But the current occupants? Positively delectable. Immaculate looking rolls that were overflowing with flavor. (The aftertaste lingered a good hour after dinner and kept reminding me just how good their food was.) A bonus container of free (!) delicious (!) edamame was a nice surprise. My wallet wasn't too happy (almost $20 for their 'Japanese Hot Dog Roll'?!) but the food is firing on all cylinders. Cool staff. The restaurant looks great inside (even though take-out is the only option nowadays). There's plenty of sushi heavy-hitters within a ten mile radius and Domodachi has definitely broken into the Top 5.

I don't know how this place has so many five star reviews, but this is easily the most disappointing sashimi I've had in years. The quality of the fish was around supermarket sushi. It was just bland, flavorless, and for the sashimi assortment, I got mostly salmon, which is good, because I had to spit the tuna and the other fish out. The dark spot on the one piece of sashimi? That's a fish scale. There were a few other fish scales interspersed, so I don't think they were really keeping clean cutting boards while prepping the fish. I typically order from a different place, but they had a much longer wait time on UberEats and now I know why this one had a much shorter wait time. What a waste of money.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Everything was delicious and super filling! My boyfriend and I go here often for dinner and the food is superb and staff is so kind. All of their specialty rolls are great. The tempura is a little different but still delicious. FOOD I RECOMMEND: the seared salmon appetizer, soft shell crab tempura, the lobster roll, anything with seared crab on top, NOTE: It is a smaller restaurant, they don't seem to have a proper reservation system so it is first come first serve for tables. bigger groups may have to wait longer. BE PATIENT. Often times I see people come in and leave soon after because they can't wait- then 5 minutes later a table opens up. The staff is trying as hard as they can to seat you! Just be assertive but kind (remind the the woman and male host, how many are in your party). It's a small business, don't be rude! If you can't wait just order take out :)

The food here is excellent. I have been here for lunch three times and dinner one time. The sushi is delicious. Service is fast and professional. The lunch portions are big enough to satisfy. The quality of the fish served in their sushi is some of the best I've had in town. I will be back again soon. read more

My wife and I have been living in Rutherford for almost 5 years and we were regulars at Nizi Sushi, which recently moved out to East Rutherford, now out of walking distance for us... We had been waiting patiently for Domodachi to open up to see if it could fill their shoes and we were not disappointed! This place is great and they have super delicious sushi rolls and very kind staff. We're regulars now and encourage anyone out there with a craving for "soosh" to give them a try, even if you already have your go-to spot. Keep it up Domodachi!! read more

I ate sushi for the very first time today - and it was delicious!! Everything at Domodachi was SOOO good. I had the soup, spicy tuna roll, and salmon teriyaki roll. Let me just say, the salmon teriyaki roll was out of this world! In addition to the yummy food, the owner, Kathy, was so friendly and welcoming. She chatted with me for a while, recommended which rolls to order, helped me with my chopsticks, and was just really nice. I am so happy I decided to come here for lunch today. We will be back! Service was amazing and the staff were so pleasant and nice. Food was delicious and very fresh. We got our food very quick and even got warm delicious edamame on the house. The atmosphere is very cozy inside with modern wooden tables and chairs. The dinner box was scrumptious and was very generous size portion. My Kani salad was so tasteful and had a great presentation. I went there today for lunch With a friend. One of the main reasons I went is I read somebody else's review that said this restaurant was run by actual Japanese people and not Koreans which most Japanese restaurants are run by. Anybody who has lived in Japan for a while can tell the difference between a Korean Japanese restaurant and a Japanese Japanese restaurant. There are certain things that are just done differently and the food does reflect that. I got there a few minutes after 230 and right away I realized it was a Korean Japanese restaurant by first of all the staff not speaking Japanese and there being Korean menu items. we had to pay dinner prices because we are a few minutes after lunch ended. We ordered a lot of food so I hope she would give us to lunch prices which she did not but she did give us a couple freebie appetizers which is nice the food was not bad it was OK but nothing spectacular typical Korean Japanese restaurant staff was friendly which is nice especially for Koreans read more

Ordered takeout on a whim from here recently. Arrived to the friendliest staff, who even knew my name. Although I didn't dine in, it had a great atmosphere and I'd love to experience it once indoor dining returns. The food was fantastic. Some of the best sushi I've experienced. They also included free edamame which again was fantastic. This is the place to go for great sushi. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

Love this place! There's new owner they took over from the other sushi place which is also good. The food is very fresh the service and the owners are super friendly . I go there once a week for lunch. I highly recommend it if you want good food nice selection and if you're not familiar with the menu they give you great recommendations to try. This place was absolutely fabulous. I ordered two sweet potato rolls for pick up on a Saturday night. The staff was super friendly and the cost was definitely affordable. The restaurant did seem a tad small, but can definitely see a nice weekday night out here. The food was phenomenal. I am truly impressed and will definitely be back! read more

We have become regulars since the restaurant opened in December. I have ordered an array of menu items and have been pleased with the quality and freshness of each. The customer service is gracious and quick. The prices are very reasonable, and the place is immaculate, including the restrooms. The "spicy salmon" wasn't the traditional sushi takeout spicy salmon, but rather a roll of salmon slices, and globs of spicy mayo blobbed on top. Lunch specials come with a miso soup but that wasn't very good either. There are lots of better sushi takeout spots in Rutherford. Skip Yamada.

It was crunchy and sweet. It didn't need much soy sauce. I also got the mango cucumber roll. It was rolled well. The mango flavor was not really there. I think they should add a bigger piece of mango. I also got the Avocado cucumber roll. It was filled and rolled well. At a price point of over $7 per veggie roll I cant see a value as nothing was overwhelming special. They do have a extensive menu so I may return for a dining in experience and try the hibachi or udon.

I was the only person in the place and I ended up waiting over 45 minutes for my order. For a bowl place I feel like that's way too long to wait for chilled food. It didn't seem like any of the food was prepped at all. Thankfully the food was very good and fresh. All except for the avocado, which was the premade mashed avocado. The staff seemed very overwhelmed but were very nice. Overall I hope this place succeeds the food was very good and there aren't any other poke places really in this area.

They were packaged well also and arrived piping hot and extra crispy! The stringbean was very garlicky (just like I asked!) and extra fresh- the perfect side dish. When we walked inside, we were seated immediately. I ordered the Garden Gathering omelette which normally comes with a side of homefries and toast. I substituted the homefries for a cup of fresh fruit. I also tried a small pancake from my mom which was very fluffy and light. The portions were pretty good and the food was fresh. The prices are reasonable. Service was prompt and the food came out fast once we ordered. When we were leaving there was a pretty large crowd waiting to be seated. Overall, it's a solid, classic breakfast spot right in the heart of downtown Rutherford.

But the showstopper? **Venison Wellington.** Tender, perfectly seasoned, and not something you see on many menus. I would order it again without hesitation. The meal came to about $20 per person (no drinks, just the entrée) and while the 'Kabob Koobideh' was a generous portion, the falafel sandwich (for $15) is wildly overpriced (it's about $10 from Greek Town right across the street, never mind about $8 from Mamoun's just about two minutes away over on Rt. 17N). Happy to have tried it, would come back (while grumbling about the cost under my breath because I'm a crabby old man).

If you want sushi, no need to think about where to go, just go to Domodachi, the sushi here is delicious. I now know where to go whenever I want sushi. You can get the best quality sushi without paying too much money. If anyone were to ask me where to go for sushi, I would recommend this place without any hesitation. Also, the owners are the nicest people ever. Both my stomach and heart is full coming out of this restaurant! read more
