Since moving to Virginia Beach, I haven't found anywhere with sushi that I wanted to try... until I found Domoishi! It's a great spot for a quick lunch pick-up order or bringing dinner home for your family. The California rolls were great and decently affordable. I attempted placing an order from the Domoishi website for Hilltop. Saw a Family Bundle option for a pick 2 protein Poke Bowl. Made the payment and headed into the store for pickup some 10 minutes later. Things turned really sideways from there with added 20+ minutes to resolve the issue. The cashier claimed the Bundle is just a regular poke bowl with a drink for $23. It comes in a regular sized poke bowl and not family size or anything like that. There's no mention of this or about the drink. So we requested we cancel the order and we place an order for 2 poke bowls with 2 proteins. He said no. No order can be canceled for refund. Just grab a drink from the fridge or buy a separate poke bowl and get $5 off if we spend $35. First of all, the cost of buying a 2 protein poke bowl and a drink is less than $23. It's not on the website that the Family Bundle is not a family sized entree with a drink. The man kept arguing until the manager trotted in. She attempted making things right by refunding and voiding the original order and allowed us to order two Poke Bowls w/ 2 proteins. I still didn't appreciate being accused of not wanting the issues to be resolved and that she's just trying to help by giving us a $5 refund. Um..... I'm not the one who came up with this problem. I don't care who the website administrators or UI / UX engineers are. I'm the customer. I thought I can just go in, pick up the order, and eat. The poke bowl itself had meager amounts of fish, too much ginger and seaweed salad, and not much rice. The fish tasted sour and overcooked. The man did a poor job packaging the sauces and the manager had to step in again to assist. The lack of proper utensils or napkins included added to its poor experience. I may try Domoishi again in the future but not anytime soon. I sure don't plan to return to the Hilltop location again. The complete lack of customers and empty parking lot should have told me something prior to entering. read more

I stopped here for some lunch. This was only my second time trying this chain. The young man inside who attended me was very accommodating and helped me choose the best items for my poke bowl. I asked for his recommendation in teas and he suggested the amber Boba tea. My meal was delicious once again. I loved how fresh everything tasted. The ambience is quite charming. I eat here at least twice a month. I always get the Tonkotsu ramen, Thai Ice Tea and their calamari. The ramen is absolutely delicious. I love how you can customize it so easily when ordering. If you don't like something, there's an option to take it off and if you want more of something, there's an option to add more. The Thai Iced Tea is absolutely perfect. I would buy some everyday if I could. The calamari is always crispy and delicious and I love the dipping sauce that it comes with. You get to order the food by yourself through a screen and wait for your order to be called. I've never had a problem placing an order as the system is so user friendly. The staff is always so nice and the food doesn't take long at all to be ready. This establishment is very clean and well maintained. * I love how the food is packaged for take out orders. Checked out this location even though it was dad for us with one down the street in Chesapeake. We went there because I wanted to try their mochi donuts. Definitely pleased with the donuts! Consistency was better than another location in Hampton roads that sells mochi donuts. Our favorite was the cookies and cream. A must try when they're made fresh. Worth the wait. We also ordered shrimp tempura, garlic soy wings, side of fries, and ramen. Everything was pretty was good. We'd decided come back, just wash it was closer. Downside was the lack of AC, but cooled off shortly after sitting and waiting with the gas blowing at us. I come here for the wings. They aren't very large, but they are packed with flavor very similar to my favorite sauces from Bonchon. I was thrilled when I found out I didn't have to drive all the way to NFK when the craving hit and Domoishi quickly became a takeout favorite. I tried their ramen and takoyaki early on. Both were fine- but not worth returning for. There are several incredible ramen spots in the area- this will work if you're looking for "fast food" quality ramen, but I'd suggest sticking to the wings if you're spoiled by quality bowls of ramen from other locations. These wings though. The price is perfect and I love that if you get one of the bigger orders you can get half spicy and half original. I'm indecisive and love both sauces so much so that is my typical order. I also like their peach tea with crystal boba. It's been over a year since I've gotten boba from here so I hope they still have that variety. It turned me on to crystal boba in general and I'm grateful for that. Is it the best place for their items on the menu- nah there are better spots around town. However does this offer fast and affordable versions of your favorite dishes- yep! Definitely worth a visit! This fast asian-casual spot is a great spot to grab and go a quick meal. The unique thing about this domoishi compared to other locations, is that they offer MOCHI DONUTS! This is the only spot in Virginia Beach that has mochi donuts that I've come across. If you don't know what mochi donuts are, they're basically chewy Japanese mochi in the form of American donuts. The mochi donuts come in six flavors: strawberry, ube, nutella/chocolate, plain, matcha, and oreo. They are my FAVORITE!! They also offer unique asian street food, such as the beef bulgolgi bun. THIS BUN WAS PERFECTION. It was so soft and fluffy, and it exceeded my expectations! I'm still craving it right now. It had a perfect amount of sweetness. The ramen bowls are good for if you want a quick lunch! The chashu pork was cooked amazingly and flavorful. Poke bowls were really fresh and filled to the top! It had a good amount of sauce and is better than average. Their drinks and boba came in generous amounts for such a cheap price. The cups are HUGE! Last but not least, the korean fried chicken wings (soy garlic) are some of my favorite asian wings in the area. If you like asian style wings like me, this is for you. I've seen Domoishi's around Hampton Roads but hadn't tried one. Today we were driving around in the snow and tried to go to FedEx to find them closed - right beside them was this spot and my fiancee had been here before and said they had great smoothies. We came in and I saw the self-order kiosk which is kind'a cool where you can order and pay and then they make it when the order goes back to the kitchen. I saw Ramen, Rangoons, Seaweed Salad, and rice bowls I could def. come back and eat but this time we went with a Passionfruit smoothie with no sugar added, it was smooth and delicious. Probably still had a ton of sugar in it but we enjoyed it. It was ready quickly and the guy inside was super friendly. I will be back to try the other goodies soon! read more

My girlfriend and I love Domoishi, so we tried one closer to us in Norfolk, but they didn't have the garlic chicken, so we came here instead, hoping they would. They did!! Two young men served us at our table (one was maybe 13, the other was about 17). The food was delicious! I wanted to try everything here (except for the boba). So with my family of four, I was able to achieve that goal. My wife got the poke bowl, my kids got ramen, and I got the soy garlic wings. I am a big fan of Korean fried chicken, so it's one of my go-to foods whenever we travel. Sauce was a little messy, flavor was good, chicken wings were decent size. I like poke a lot, but admittedly, I'm a little inexperienced about it. I usually get mine from Poke Bros. and use a lot of gochujang (Korean red pepper paste). Not available on their menu, so she chose a house light sauce. Very good, despite being absent of my favorite sauce. Ramen flavor was good...mild and not too strong. We got the shoyu broth. Eggs were cooked very well. What really impressed me was the packaging (which I actually don't think is necessary to go to such great lengths). The ramen in particular was very thoughtfully prepared. The noodles and other ingredients were placed in a plastic steamer bowl (think Healthy Choice microwaveables), and the broth were housed in a bigger bowl underneath. This is a great place for a quick meal. I have been several times and never had any issues. This time they were very accommodating for me and brought my food to my Jeep. I asked because I was on crutches. I ordered online and my order was perfect. I never went inside so I can't comment but I have been there before and it has been clean and service fast and friendly. I got the choose 2 poke bowl and it was delicious. You order like you order at Chipotle. I work nearby so I will go back. Just remember it's not the world's best but it is very very good. It's high quality but not the highest....obviously. I also love that they recycle and are as green as possible. My bf and I checked in to here for takeout via Grubhub and it was ready fairly quickly! Not many people around 730pm on a Tuesday night. We ordered a 12pc Korean chicken wing (spicy soy garlic) and 2 Pick-Two poke bowls with salmon and tuna protein (yumyum sauce and spicy ponzu sauce, all toppings, one garlic chips and one nori seaweed garnish). We REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanted to like this place more than we actually did but unfortunately, it came up just a lil short for us. Don't get me wrong, however. Nothing was bad but the first thing we noticed upon walking in was the strength of their AC was zero to non/existent. During 90+ degree VB temps, it's gotta be kickin'. I literally had sweat rolling down my face, neck, back, and arms. It was sweltering in there! And on top of that we were crazy enough to get Ramen. Silly us, right!? In the end, I really should've opted for their highly raved chicken wings instead. So let's break it down.... a) yeah, I get it... it's a fast casual dining establishment but I am not a fan of the plastic bowls for their ramen. I found the plastic disposable bowls were very similar to the frozen soups I buy at Costco but without the lid. I think reusable bowls would be a better option. b) if you're gonna serve any kind of Asian soup, you should offer proper sized spoons to slurp the broth! The teeny, tiny, plastic spoon they give you is hideous and borderline aggravating. Useless. c) NO nori in my ramen?! Is that even allowed!? It's like, a crime not to have nori with tonkatsu. Maybe that's just me? d) they only had cocktail napkins for customers to use to wipe their mouths and hands. Not even a single paper towel when I requested. What in the world!? Don't even get me started on the ONE teeny, tiny folded up napkin in the utensil packet! Not even big or strong enough for a baby's hand. I kid you not. e) AC definitely needs to be cranked up when it's hot & humid outside! Windows facing the afternoon sun is brutal. f) kind of hidden. Not the best location but hey. Parking is sufficient enough. g) I appreciate their efforts in trying to recycle and all that but I wasn't a fan of the trash system. Looked complicated to me and I couldn't fit my plastic bowl into the small slot for "Plastic" so it ended up going in the trash along with everything else. No place to put your tray either so we just left it at our table. The Good Stuff: a) Peach Berry Tea with Crystal boba pearls is the BOMB! I would def come back here again just for that. Worth it. b) Beef gyoza was on point! Get those for sure!! c) tonkatsu ramen flavor was actually good. Pork was very tender and they were actually quite generous with the portion. Big fan of that! Not so much a fan of the noodles, though. I got 3 fish cakes whereas my son didn't get any even though we ordered the same thing. Weird. I was sad I couldn't finish the broth due to having a small spoon. d) playlist was bomb!!! e) I heard their wangs are legit so if there's a next time, that's what I'm getting. They say it's Bonchon worthy. I'm on the fence about returning. It's kinda out of the way for me but since they're the only ramen spot in that immediate area, I guess it works. You will definitely find something that will satisfy all different types of taste buds. Pros: - wide selection of foods - very clean space - affordable food options - ramen was pretty good and it came with a seasoned egg that was surprisingly not bad! Cons: - More than half of the Boba in our drink was overcooked... and the drink was overly sweet (we got the Signature Amber). - Poke was below average... sushi rice wasn't good and the protein scoops were small.
