This was my worst experience purchasing a car. I purchased a used vehicle from the dealership on May 1, 2024. Although it passed Virginia State Inspection it did not pass Maryland State Inspection, which is where the car is registered. The dealership offered to pay for half of the costs to repair the car, which was nice of them. I put the car into the shop on May 12th. However, it took the dealership until June 14th to send out the check. Once I deposited the check, it voided because of something on the dealership's end. So it wasn't until a week later that I was actually able to deposit the check. Apparently even though the general manager Pete told me that the check was shipped out, someone on the finance team never actually sent it. Throughout all of this, I come to find out that my title had not been sent to the bank that I was financing through. I was first alerted on June 11th that I needed to show my bank the title or they would raise my rates. It took until August 12th to receive my title in the mail and be able to email my bank. It was almost impossible to reach anyone at the dealership also. I had called the general manager 6 times, emailed the used car manager twice, and called the sales manager 3 times. I only heard back on two occasions. I live almost 2 hours away and it was difficult to make it down to the dealership to ask them what was the issue getting my problems solved in a timely fashion. I had brought up the idea of having my mother and girlfriend buy cars at this dealership, but there is no way I would ever have anyone that I know buy a vehicle from this location anymore. read more

DECPETIVE BUSINESS PRACTICES! My daughter was so excited to buy her first car, but we were intentionally and completely deceived into believing this car had FAR few issues than it does. The salesperson offered us the invoice from their mechanic, assuring us that the car only had those issues and was "a really good deal", but we now have a car my 17-year-old daughter worked her but off to afford and we paid $5600 for that needs over $6,000.00 in work. She lost her job because she didn't have a car and now she has no car and no job. We tried to sell it but because we were honest about its issues (because, you know, integrity) we were unable to. I reached out to the dealership to see if they would make it right, but they essentially just shamed me for trusting them and buying it from them. Lesson learned, and for you too! I get that some car dealerships are shady and this happens but it is a shame and embarrassment that this multi-million-dollar car dealership with multiple locations would take advantage of community members this way. read more

Customer service in the establishment can be improved. Not by anyone individually because the people are generally pleasant here, but as a unit. I purchased a car here approximately 2 months ago & have yet to receive my tags. The response timing from the staff has been subpar at best for an unknown reason. I even drove to the dealership to talk to someone face to face just for them to tell me I have to wait until the three day window of expiration to get another set of temporary tags which will be difficult for me to do due to my work schedule. I understand that's not their fault but didn't even ask if I would be available to do so or if they would mail them out to me as a courtesy. Beyer please improve your customer service. read more

FALSE ADVERTISING! I left work early today and drove an hour from Maryland to Virginia to come purchase a beautiful 2019 Volvo S60 advertised on Don Beyers website. The Volvo was advertised as being a certified pre owned vehicle which came with an amazing 5 year unlimited mile warranty straight from Volvo the manufacturer. I spent 2 hours at this dealership test driving the car and going over numbers before we agreed on a final OTD price. As we were about to move forward with the purchase I decided I should ask about the warranty to see when it would start/end. That is when they dropped the bombshell on me that this cars 5 year unlimited mile warranty actually started when the car was originally sold/delivered which was all the way back in 2019. Meaning that this car was only under warranty for another year and a half and not the 5 years that they had advertised on their website. They told me I could add years onto the warranty but it would cost me $1000 per year I wanted to add... drastically increasing the price of the car. Even after providing said service, they made sure to call me up afterwards to ensure that I was completely satisfied with the service they performed, and made sure that they had done absolutely everything in their power to make me happy as a customer. Daughter brought our Volvo in to have airbag recall services and boy did the technician really try to upsell her on high cost and unnecessary repairs. It was truly atrocious. They also tried to hostage the car unless she agreed to services. I stepped in at that point and brought the vehicle to another specialist mechanic who didn't identify any problems. My 2021 XC60 was badly damaged in an accident, and Caliber Collision in Burke needed to have the engine removed and reinstalled by Don Beyer. What was supposed to be a one week job turned into three weeks. Beyond the unacceptable delay, the worst part was the lack of clear communication about the issue. No one ever really knew why the work was taking longer than quoted, and in the 21st century it's not okay for businesses to have a lack of communication with customers. read more

First off, Natalie saved the deal. May have been bitter sweet. After dealing with an aggressive sales agent with incorrect information, Mike assigned us to her. She was great in working with us to process the transaction for our 2022 S90. Although Natalie was GREAT, a month into the purchase, we aren't sure Volvo deserved our business. 3 days after we got it home, the google info system went offline. It has been in the shop twice because the module to allow Volvo to trouble shoot will not connect, is back ordered and after numerous attempts to @VolvoCarsUSA, there has been no action. Maybe Natalie should consider selling other vehicles and maybe we should have chosen a more responsive and quality focused manufacturer. We assumed that Google and Volvo would have been able to figure out a great reliable partnership before making it available but, maybe not. read more

How to Lose a Customer Avoid the service department! Slow response and unhelpful. No recognition/acknowledgement of the damage they caused to my car. After 5 year of using their service, I can't recommend them. I have owned Volvos for twenty years and have leased or purchased three at Don Beyer Volvo in Falls Church. I was satisfied with service and maintenance until I had a particularly bad experience this month (December 2019). My 2018 S90 has been serviced at Don Beyer exclusively. I even had the same service advisor for the past 5 years for a S60 and XC60. When I moved to California and had itge S90 serviced at the local Volvo dealership they discovered at dropoff that a rocker panel had been damaged by improper use of a lift- something you can only see if you are looking for it from below. The door above the damage was not straight which was the tell. The car had only been on a lift at Don Beyer Volvo. I called my service advisors Don Beyer and emailed him for a week with no response and then emailed and left voice mail for the Service Manager at Don Beyer Volvo. Only after I escalated to Volvo Care did I get a response. Apparently my advisor had left in November but they hadn't deactivated his voicemail or email address. In the end I was informed by the Service Manager at Don Beyer that they would not "participate in the repair". Volvo might do something for me but that is up to Volvo and I am on my own. No advice, not even a "sorry you are having to deal with this" - what you typically expect from a luxury brand. Terrible service and disappointing outcome. This is how you lose customers. read more

Today we took our car into Don Beyer Volvo for a maintenance check. We believed that we were doing an oil change for $99 and resetting the check engine light The service manager - who is not your friend, they are trained sales people. Their job is take money from you and hand it to the dealership. The first thing that they did was tell us we needed new wipers for the windshield. We passed on that option. By the way, the car is 4 years old and has less than 15,000 miles on it. They told us they would be doing a maintenance check. We did not know what that meant. We assumed we were there for an oil change, not a $450 bill on the day. Surprise, surprise, we got a nearly $600 bill. We were never, never, ever told about this amount Wow! Don Beyer Volvo this takes the cake!!!! Oh by the way, the final report says windshield wipers were in good shape despite that was the service advisors first recommendation. Too bad... You want to think that they would not take advantage of their customers. Considering the other comments here, we are not the only one that walks away upset with these folks. read more

Very impressed with quality of service. During a recent cross country road trip my vehicle began making a noise that was intermittent. The service writer had me take a road test with the technician so I could point out the noise. The technician was able to identify the issue and address the issue immediately. I still have not recieved parts of my purchase or the paperwork needed to register the vehicle. They also mis-charged me and even shipped the car to the wrong address. I had correspondence with a salesman for 4 days bc it's over 1 1/2 hrs away. I wanted to make this transaction happen, if all was approved by me, in one day. I asked for photos besides the ones through Carguru. I was given 2-3 photos that seemed ok to deal with as well as the carfax showing "No accident REPORTED" (big difference) but "minor" scratches and a small dent less than the size of a dime. I had an appt. For 11am after day 4. When I arrived ON TIME, the salesman I had been working with took a WALK IN!!! That made us wait an extra 30 minutes or more. THEN we were told the car wasn't even ready to look at. ???? So, we had to wait LONGER for them to even just basic run it under water and vacuumed. You could see the dirtiness when you FINALLY OPENED the car door. However, before we even did that, my we walked around the car and noticed a heck of a lot of more dents and chipped paint. Then my bf got to that front corner panel and immediately noticed it was a different color. We were both very concerned at that time. But we came all that way, we might as well take it for a ride. Buyer Beware! My car was hit while parked in front of my home and I took it to a shop that specialized in body work but I could tell something mechanical was wrong with the car and they did not fix it. Eventually, after 3 times going to pick my car up and it not working properly I took My Volvo XC90 to Don Beyer Volvo service center. The problem may have been that I needed them to check it out and tell me what was wrong and meet with the GEICO inspector. I think this made them see $$$$$. They told me it was going to be $4,900 for struts and more but GEICO did not want to pay after paying the "body shop" $6k so of course they said the damage to the car was not related. I asked Don Beyer to change the oil and I would pick the car up. They did send a Lyft to my home to give me a ride but also charged me over $300 for an oil change and labor to check my car and tell me something was wrong that was not fully true. I took the Volvo to a friends mechanic and he said only half of what Don Beyer said was needed was actually true and the other repairs were items that simply needed to be removed, wiped off and sprayed with wd40 There were no cracks and did not need replacing. So he replaced what was needed and charged me $421.15 and the car runs fine. Buyer Beware! read more

Parts department parking is horrendous since they have this little alley to park down, but there is also a small lot in the back. I've been here twice, and admittedly for unpleasant car maintenance or repair reasons. That being said, this dealership is excellent - the service is phenomenal, the availability of loaners is superb, the online scheduling system works perfectly to avoid unnecessarily burdening my time, and the technicians are on top of car repair issues. As people note on here, this place is pricey. I'm sure there are cheaper places in the area - after all, it's a dealership, and they aren't going to skimp on parts or the extent of repairs. Selected a used Jeep SUV online. Website was clean and user-friendly. Showed up late Saturday without an appointment. The car was there--which isn't always the case, as company websites often lag their inventory. All the sales people were helping other customers when I walked in. The pleasant and helpful receptionist took me to the used sales manager, Max, who personally took care of me. Got me into the car for a personal test drive within ten minutes, while his techs took a look at my trade-in. I returned after a healthy thirty-minute road test. Max gave me a generous trade-in allowance, AND, after some discuss, ended up knocking nearly a thousand dollars off the asking price of the car I wanted to buy, which was already a couple thousand below book--and in great shape. I wrote a check and drove the car away an hour after I walked in, no questions asked--practically on a handshake. They even offered to hold my check until Tuesday, to let me shop with other lenders for competitive rates in case I wanted to finance the car. While the paperwork was pending, the GM of the dealership came around and swapped stories with me. This dealership projects an upscale, professional European business atmosphere but surprises you with friendly, hometown customer service. Super low pressure. Easier than CarMax. I won't be going back to have my car serviced here ever again. I can deal with sloppiness (to an extent), if it's resolved and handled appropriately afterward, with a basic level of respectful customer service. The issue is how the mistakes were responded to. First of all, I was quoted for a service on the phone (key replacement), and then when I arrived, the quote was nearly double because they had not included labor in the quote over the phone. Obviously that's an important part of the quote, and an omission on their part. Okay, so someone made an error over the phone, I'm sure it happens, but instead of apologizing (or saying something to the effect of "we will make sure in the future the full price is quoted"), the service manager I worked with acted like I just didn't understand how parts and labor work, and that I just misunderstood. It was truly condescending. The better answer would have been "oh I'm sorry that someone gave you the wrong info, and here's what I'll do to make this right"- especially since I took half of my work day off to get this done. The tiniest bit of acknowledgment that the cost was significantly higher than quoted would have made such a big difference. Secondly, when I got home, I realized there were pieces of fabric sticking out of one of the back panels of my car. I was a little concerned, given that my seatbelts had been replaced during my visit to Beyer Volvo and I wasn't sure if this was a safety issue. When I called, there was no apology or even acknowledgment that this is not normal, just "oh that's from the car wash, just pull them out." This was a second service manager who was also nonchalant about an error on their team's part, and frankly treated me like my concerns were unwarranted. I don't think it's normal to have pieces from a car wash stuck- deeply- in the side of your car. I'll be choosing another Volvo service center in the future. read more

He even brought in a car from another lot to see on Saturday. He was walking around the car and pointing out stuff they would fix before we had a chance. This is a truly first-class dealership establishment. It's NOT AT ALL the typical negative dealership experience you might have come to expect (like I had) with pushy salesmen, shady tactics, and ready-to-pounce dealers. When my wife and I, after spending hours perusing their extensive inventory outside, saw several we liked but wanted to customize our selection further, the sales team very patiently began a search of the local inventory, enduring our specific requests and many questions with great patience, and eventually found us exactly the car we had been dreaming of! Their pricing is reasonable and fair, and most especially important to me, transparent. I did not once feel like any costs were being hidden from me, or tacked on quietly, or that I was being pressured to purchase anything or any upgrades I did not want. This is not to say they are not persistent--they are, and will suggest all kinds of solutions to problems to keep your business, but any establishment worth its salt and as successful as this one should do business this way. After having spent time at FOUR other dealerships (some different makes, some Volvos), this was by far the BEST DEALERSHIP WE HAVE EVER VISITED. Our test drive experience was fun and informative, too (highly recommend you try a T8 trimline with the pure electric mode--exhilarating experience to say the least!) Again, the Falls Church location has me so upset. It's been years since I took my car there but I thought I'd give it another try since its so close to my job and I got an urgent safety warning while driving yesterday. On May 28th at 7:15AM I took my car there and worked with James M. He is a very nice and friendly service leader. He made me feel welcomed and appreciated so I was looking forward to a positive experience this time. He told me it would take about an hour to diagnose my issue and the approx cost. About 45 minutes later he told me all the other things that were wrong but I selected to just fix the most critical problem since I told him I'd probably be in the market for a new car soon. Once we confirmed what they would work on, he said that will take about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. At 10:15 I went out to see what was going on with my car since I had now been there over 3 hours. He calls the tech and now he is asking if there is an issue with my car window rolling up and down? I said no, I had my window down yesterday and its been working fine. I can't believe I am having issues again with this dealership. This is the 3rd time I've had big issues at this location. I am not quite sure what's going on but I was stuck here because my car was taken apart. I asked to speak to the GM, Pete K. I explained what was going on and he suggested they take me to work and then have the shuttle come back to get me. That was not acceptable since I'd been there double the expected time and I didn't have time to come back. He then offered to have them bring me my car. I thought that was a great compromise however, I have yet to hear back from Pete as to why this happened to begin with? Why was I left waiting so long, why did they break my window, why did they even have my window rolled down? They have since returned my car to me and fixed the window so for that I am grateful but this experience has me not wanting to buy a new Volvo because I wouldn't' have a place convenient to take it to for service. My prior issue a few years ago with Don Beyer, Falls church, was they had an employee inflating the bill and taking money. Once I alerted them of my experience they investigated my claims and got rid of that person but just wondering what else might be going on there. Not a good day at the Volvo place for me.
