I love pho. I'm always down to try pho spots but this one SUCKED. First of all, they have a $10 credit card limit and even though my total came to be basically $9 and some change, they wouldn't let me use my card until It was $10 or more. To get me to that ten, the man recommended me buying a whole sandwich which was $4 when i only needed about a dollar to meet the card limit, rude. I ended up just adding shrimp which was an extra $2 to my order. Now To the pho. I order the special with four different types of meat (3 beef and 1 chicken) plus my $2 shrimp. None of the beef was good. The chicken was ok. The shrimp was actually good but I was like 4 shrimp like come on now. $2 for four shrimp . I did like the amount of noodles they gave but It wasn't a good proportion compared to the rest of the soup especially when I didn't eat 3/5 of the meats because they were nasty and the other 2 were either subpar or scarce. I definitely will not be returning to this spot. So overpriced and horrible service as well as horrible pho. Save your money. read more

We just moved to the area and I was very excited to see this place just down the street, especially once I read the reviews. We have gone once now for chicken pho to go, and I know this will become a staple. The broth was some of the most flavorful I've had and everything was fresh. I would have liked a little more chicken, but that's just a minor thing compared to the overall experience. The place is clean and bright. You order at the counter and get a number-the food came our in a reasonable amount of time to know they were making it fresh. I love Don Cafe for the same reason I loved them when I was a little girl who went to the Bellaire location- the sandwiches!! I remember meeting the owner when she worked at Les Givral. She was always so sweet so when she opened her own place, my parents happily supported her dreams. Now I take my husband and daughter here. It's the closest one to Sugar Land. Their sandwiches are the best. My favorite is the shredded chicken- many vietnamese sandwich shops won't have this on their menu. They usually have just grilled chicken. My husband loves the special. I think it's that delicious butter these use in their sandwiches and the baguette itself that makes it so gooood! The rice dishes are great. I also like their spring rolls over the eggrolls. I like that they have combo meals- sandwich, eggrolls or spring rolls and a drink. I've tried the pho but you obviously eat pho at a pho restaurant... It's not the best dish but it's good enough for a toddler's cravings. This place take credit cards which is a plus and the people are friendly. The meals come out promptly and hot. I wish they were open on Sunday's. Banh mi with chicken - super dry Banh mi with meatball - moist and not bad Rice with beef steak - flavorless. The onions in this dish had more flavor than the actual protein. The worst was the spring rolls......... all I could taste was the wrapper. The rolls looked like they were anorexic. The Pho was good, it wasn't as good as my usual spot back in the Ft Worth area, but it was decent. You have to spend at least 10.00 to use your debit or cc, but the prices are pretty good, so that's not a big deal. Just something to keep in mind when going. I understand the sandwiches are fantastic, but when I go to a place like this, I've got to try the Pho. Again, not the best, but it was good. I'll be back when I'm in town. Crusty, warm bread, nice layers of seasoned grilled meat, and nicely seasoned fresh veggies, in good ratios. I've tried Parisian (bread quality is dollar store weird) and Les Givral (horrid meat "quality"). YUCK! Keep the crowds at the latter! Woo hoo! I have no idea why Dons is not the go-to place when my non-Asian friends suggest a great banh mi place. I do enjoy no worries to elbow myself into a line here. When I decide to eat here, I know I can count on gastronomic pleasure, with the least amt of guilt for consuming a satisfying sandwich. I have also enjoyed the fresh shrimp rolls. (Idk the proper name, even though I'm Asian.) The side porch is a nice view the proprietors have yet to take full advantage of. It is green and well-shaded, but I think it could easily be made into a nice little paradise niche for sitting & eating. If ever, hopefully smokers NOT allowed within a decent # of feet. I love the Dons cafe in Chinatown however this place is crap in comparison. The food is good but the service is so shitty that I would rather drive 45 min to go to Chinatown than eat at this location 5 min away from me. I used to come here numerous times but the service has really gone downhill everytime. There's only 1 waitress or waiter on the floor so drinks are never refilled, you have to go up to the counter to order, and ask for the check 5 times before you give up and just go to the counter again. And every time I leave a tip which I always regret doing but it's just my nature to leave a tip even though they don't deserve it. Last week I put a tip so the total should have been $25 (around a $4.60 tip) but I didn't write the tip amount, just the total amount. And they fucking charged me $26!?!? I know it's only a dollar difference but that pissed me off that they added an extra dollar of tip without my permission for a shitty service. So advice? This is a decent Vietnamese fast food place. The soups are pretty good which is what I normally order. I usually order a soda with my meal, but they don't have a soda fountain last I checked (which I like better than having to ask for another can of soda). I am not sure why.. but I give the Don Cafe in Chinatown a higher rating. Maybe it is because I do not really care about the environment (to an extent) as long as the food is good. I guess the only REAL complaint I have is that they cut the banh mi a different way that is more fancy but gives way too much bread on the first 2 bites. Also, they give WAY more lard/butter at this location for some reason. The meat/bread tastes the same than the other location. The place is way cleaner and the environment is nicer than Chinatown. A great Vietnamese place right on Dulles. I've got to hand it to them, great food at great prices. Maybe not the best pho I've had in town, but sandwiches here are top notch. You've also got the option to add egg on top, which is always a great choice. Only knock I've got against this place is the service time. I feel bad about writing my previous review as my wife and I are now addicted to their Pho. We've been going here a lot in the past two years since I've last written my review. Tastes pretty amazing now and gives alot of Pho places in the area a serious run for their money. I'd even go as far to say that their Pho is better than Pho Ben - which used to take the cake for the best Pho in Sugar Land. The great thing about Don Cafe is that they are very friendly and personable, and they don't try to rush you out of the place to seat more customers. They actually use really good quality vermicelli and ingredients in their Pho and don't skimp out on the veggies and meat. This place definitely deserves a lot more love. I have had a lot of banh mi and have yet to eat anything that contends with don's / les givrals. The lady who works the register and anwsers the phone busts ass all the time, and helps no matter what the request is. One time i walked in and just wanted butter so my fiance could make banh mi at home ( its not the same without their perfect butter). I had bo luc lac one time and it was too raw to eat a couple of pieces.. but it was still good. I will return because of the awesome service and food ( and its real close to my work). Please do not go here. The owner is very rude! When you place an order online he is very short and acts like he can't hear you, while yelling at you. I accidentally placed a wrong order here when I wanted the one on bellaire. Well when I got to the bellaire location they called this location and handed the phone to me. The man was very rude and yelled at me. He then said F*** YOU over and over again. I said excuse me and he continue to talk down on me and curse at me. I gave the phone back to them and said why would you allow him to yelled and curse at me. The person working at the bellaire location said well he would have curse at me. He is my manager. I said so you are allowing them to do it to me? And he's your manager? I said he needs to learn how to treat people. I stood, waited, and paid for my food. Then the worker at the bellaire location said oh they delivered your food here and you owe more money. I said how do I know he didn't spit in my food since he was cursing at me the whole time. I asked for them to make a new one and they refused. I said well I would like my money back and finally they made my new banh mi order. $20 really isn't going to break you. I have been to the Don Café in Bellaire many times. So, I was excited there was one in my neck of the woods. I ordered the BBQ pork banh mi "to go". My family and enjoyed them. I just loved the toppings that come with the sandwiches (pickled carrots, cilantro, jalapenos, cucumbers), which give them that added crunch and variety of textures. The bread itself had the right amount of banh mi mayo (butter-mayo mixture), but it could've been a tad more crunchy. However, it's still better than a lot of other places that serve banh mi.
