Don Churro has become our new favorite! We went there on a whim one night because there were fliers at our gym next door, and the food was outstanding. The restaurant is quiet and brightly decorated, and our server was so attentive yet unobtrusive. Every part of our meal was so flavorful, somewhat healthy, and freshly prepared. I have two friends who are, for all purposes, foodies. I am much less cultured and refined as my two friends. So they enjoy taking me to new places and trying to expand my horizons in food. Friend 1 heard good reviews of this place, and thus the 3 of us set out one night for a girls night out. They seated us near the kitchen, which turned out to be a mistake. Don't seat foodies with high expectations near the kitchen where we were able to see the kitchen and wait staff goofing off. Everyone is entitled to some levity at work, but not when you have customers who have been waiting half an hour for their starters! We never did ascertain who our waitress or waiter was, we had 4 different people serve us and even they didn't seem to know who was supposed to cover our table. One guy took our drink orders, and despite a relatively decently stocked bar, informed Friend 2 they couldn't make a whiskey sour (despite several drinks on the menu with the word sour in them). So we settled on drinks from the menu. A different person brought them to us, and to our amazement, they were virgin drinks! So round two of drinks were much more to our satisfaction (i.e. had actual alcohol in them). We then placed our order, I allowed my foodie friends to handle the ordering of the appetizers. Friend 1 weighs about 120lbs, but eats enough for 4 people. She ordered a wide variety of appetizers for us to share. He assumed this was our entire order and walked away. Friend 2 had to call him back so we could place our main course orders. 30 minutes later a totally different waiter arrives with our starters, and to say the least we were disappointed. Everything was deep fried and soggy with oil that had obviously not been changed in quite some time. We picked at what we could, hoping the mains would be better. A full hour later (after several attempts to locate one of the 3 waiters that had served us) we finally got our mains. Friend 1 had a meat platter. Everything was dry and obviously over cooked (even to my non foodie eyes). My chicken was dry and flavorless. The rice was swimming in overused oil and the veggies were limp and depressing. Friend 2 was never able to find the sweet potatoes that were supposed to be part of her meal. We skipped desert and headed to another restaurant to fill up on something edible. read more

We were frequent customers at this place because the food is good although is over priced. In one ocassion we invited our family for lunch to Don Churro and it was mother's day, the place was busy but it was not packed and we made reservations. Our appetizers came 45 minutes late and cold, I noticed that the two men who were next to our table had already their meal and they came at the same time. When we asked manager (female) about our appetizers, she said that we have to wait becuase they take long time to prepare. She made us felt like it was our fault. Our waitress never came to check on us, there was another waitress that I think recognized us and try to help us. Our food never came. Althogh the manager knew us, she never made an effort to make us feel welcomed or at least said that she is sorry for the inconvinience. We ended up paying for the cold appetizers and we left the place. The entire experience was very embarrasing for our family and it ruined our entire day. We never won't back to this restaurant and I hope that this experience have made the managment realized about their mistakes and start value their customers. I went there this past weekend and they definitely did not disappoint. The atmosphere was great, the server was friendly and very helpful explaining some of the dishes to myself and the people I came with, the mixed drinks were some of the best I've ever had (and at a great price), and the best food I've had at any restaurant in the area. Their customer service is very poor, coming from its owner, who is too old and out of tune with good service. My Groupon voucher had expired and I just want to use the $12 that I had paid for it. He made a very big deal that I need to "dine in" to use it, but, if I can't use the voucher anymore, then why do I need to? He refused to understand. So I sat down, took one bite, and packed it to go, while wasting an extra 15 minutes of my time. The place was not busy during prime lunch hour, and I can see the reason now. It took a long time for him to place my order and was not accommodating to a customer for a special order that I had witnessed. He does not seem to believe that the customer is usually right and does not want to please his customers. No wonder there is no repeat business. I will certainly not go there again, ever. We had a decision to make: DQ or unknown Don Churro Cafe??? Three adults three children to enjoy a fine evening of dining. Enticement at its best: "Tuesdays kid eat free!" Why wouldn't you eat there? Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, my strawberry daquiri was smaller than a serving of my pinky. The service was poor, with a server who did not know her own menu, and a shift manager who was not aware of his restaurant's promotion. That was the worst money I have ever spent! Additionally, the fare was suspect. Never again Don Churro Cafe (No Mas)! I would strongly recommend against this establishment. The final judgement: "See ya lata alligata! read more

How two friends and I made it out of Don Churro with no more gray hairs than we entered with is a mystery. We went in with no expectations, which was fortunate. If you're going to let guests sit for over ten minutes before taking their drink orders, it is not typically advisable to place them right next to the kitchen where they can see the waitstaff playing fuckaround. Eventually a server came to take our drink orders, but informed us that he was not assigned to our section and our waitress was MIA. We never did figure out who our designated server was. The drink situation was grim, and a telling prelude to the meal (which took about 45 minutes to get to the table). If you like to catch a buzz before feasting like a feral animal, this is not the place to do it. The server looked as if I had laid claim to his first born when I ordered a whiskey sour. It seems that despite having several "sour" drinks on the menu, they don't actually have sour mix behind the bar. The drinks on the menu described a sour mix made in-house, and yet somehow they couldn't (or wouldn't) just add whiskey to it. I settled for a margarita, and I do mean "settled". I've had better margaritas from those $5 buckets of powder mix. My friend's pina colada wasn't much better, though it did leave entertaining rings of ambiguous scuzz around the inside of her glass. They also brought us virgin drinks to start. It was an honest mistake, but they actually argued with us a bit about it. We ordered a smattering of appetizers. One was cold, one was burnt and dry, the "cheese" on the yucca was flavorless/shady at best, and the plantains were excellent. There were sides of fries (straight out of a freezer bag), sauces (tiny plastic ramekins), and avocado which managed to look pretty good. For entrees, we ordered the meat platter, arroz con pollo, and the 1/2 roast chicken platter. To be fair, the menu does mention that the meat platter will take half an hour to cook. On the same note, the foodie friend who ordered it didn't see how that could be correct since everything seemed to have been deep fried. My arroz con pollo was a glorified (yet generous) pile of oily chicken fried rice with some mild sauce sparsely mixed in. As it turned my throat into a well-greased luge track, the chef's ennui could most certainly be tasted. I don't claim to know enough about Latino food to say whether or not it was authentic, but as a Jewish woman I know Chinese food... and that was most definitely chicken fried rice with taco sauce. The friend who ordered chicken took a few stabs at the charred carcass and simply gave up. Though the idea of nutella-stuffed churros excited me, we couldn't bring ourselves to stick around for dessert. This is the kind of place I'd make a date take me if I never wanted to talk to them again. Between the small, bad, expensive drinks, slow, mediocre, overpriced food, waitstaff that defines apathy, and being provided with just enough time feeling ignored to breed irritation, this place will likely bring out the worst in folks who don't do well with lousy situations. read more

Rude owner added cover charges to everybody's bill without notification. The manager was kind enough to remove the extra charges only for me after I said the sign outside said live music but nothing about a cover charge. Then the Owner rudely confronted me, claiming it was advertised on Facebook with a cover charge and that he needed to pay for the band from Peru. I had to ask him to leave me alone so I could pay my bill because he would not stop defending the unexpected charges and rambled about whether I owned a business or not (I do), I think he was drunker than the birthday friend we came to see. The band was very great, I would have been happy to pay the cover if it was posted at the door like any other honest business, but decided to tip the band instead. Food was ok, not great - wife had to send back her steak because it was chewy but they fixed it, kinda - service was quick and attentive. After leaving the owner followed me outside and apologized, but refused to agree to post any future cover charges on the door so it fell on deaf ears. Beware, you might charged extra without notice, illegally. Scrutinize your bill. I won't be back. read more

This is my second time at Don Churro. I had some really good sangria last time I was here, so I decided to come back. I'm not sure if it was just me tonight, but the food tasted just ok. We ordered some empenada and corn cake with beef as appetizers. For my dinner, I ordered a grilled fish dish, and my husband ordered a fried beef dish.The beef dish was ok, but my fish looked and tasted like frozen and it's been reheated several times. It was so dry and tasteless. Actually, all the food we ordered were served at room temperature. I'm not sure whether this is how food is eaten in South America, but for me, I like to eat hot food hot. The positive side about Don Churro is the live entertainment on fridays and saturdays is really good. I enjoyed that a lot. This is a good place if you just sit at the bar and have a sangria and enjoy the latin amercan live entertainment. If you are a foodie, you will be disappointed. My wife bought a Groupon to go there. We expected better. The service was the worst I have experienced in a very long time. We did not receive drinks until after we received the entrees, and it took over an hour for the server to greet us, take our order and bring the food. They were not even busy. My wife did not receive her entree until fifteen minutes after my son and I received ours. The waiter then brought my wife's plate to show her that the did not have one of the sides. They would also not allow us to use the Groupon with their promotional items. I argued to no avail that there was no language on the voucher prohibiting using together. The server never checked back , and the service was the slowest I have ever had. As a result, we were there more than two hours. I have never been more ready to leave a restaurant after a meal. When the bill finally arrived, it was the wrong bill. The server tried to convince me that it was mine. All the menu items we ordered were way overpriced for what we got.I was very disappointed in our visit and do not plan to ever return. read more

I visited this place many times last year and was great but today I went to get lunch and was terrible. The appetizer of yucas and huancaina, the sauce was very liquid nothing similar t Peruvian huancaina sauce and the ceviche was ok but the portion too small. We had dinner at Don Churro on a Saturday night. We arrived around 6:30 and there were many empty tables. The food was excellent. The wait staff was very friendly. I had the potato pancake stuffed with cheese--good, but a little bland. I had a mohito and asked them to go very light on sugar, which they did. Great drink. I had a combination with steak, churizo, pork belly and something else I can't recall. I really don't like pork belly as it's very fat, and this one was no different, but all the meat was well prepared. My wife had fish, which was very good. We also were served some beans, rice and plantains. I can't say enough good things about Don Churro. Our waitress gave us a card for a free dessert or coffee when we come back. I came here expecting the old menu and was totally bummed the menu changed...that was until we tried the food. OMG it was soooo good! The ceviche was just like the old menu with a bit of a twist. We loved the pisco sours. The lamb was tender and delicious, steak cooked perfectly and empanadas flavorful. Victor was our waiter and he provided amazing service. The first time I dined here was lunch during business hrs with coworkers. Our latin coworker suggested this place because I was craving saltenas. Boy were we in for a treat! The saltenas were huge & hot when they hit the table. The spicy green sauce blended perfectly with the saltiness of the appetizer. My favorite dish is the seafood fried rice. Flavorful smokey rice lightly fried with alot of squid and shrimp (my mouth waters thinking about it). The lunch portions were big for the price as I always (except one hungry day) was able to pack up leftovers for later. This says alot as I rarely doggy bagged anything. What separates this place from other latin restaurants is the food isn't too greasy and the entrees aren't loaded with sauce. You can actually see what you are eating and taste the delicious food. The wait staff are friendly and the owner is hilarious. You can always find him talking to his customers. I've been here plenty of times and don't plan on stopping. read more

Don't know what happened to this place. It used to be so good. Came in for a weekday lunch. There was only one other table in the restaurant. I ordered silpancho and the other person at my table had a salteña and arepas. 10-15 mins later server comes to our table to say they don't have silpancho. No problem. I order the pabellon criollo. I figure shredded beef needs to be prepared ahead so that would be fine. Server goes to kitchen for a minute, comes back, and starts apologizing. Doesn't actually say anything but continues apologizing, it takes me asking after waiting for him to spit it out already to figure out they don't have that either. I feel this is getting ridiculous so figure i should just order chicken or something. Arroz con pollo it is. I understand that the saltena and arepas come out earlier than my own food considering all the issues, but it's still not a good experience to watch the other person eat and finish and still not have your food. Arroz con pollo took a while to come out and had to ask as I had to be at work and it was going on 45 mins for our lunch. Crazy when the restaurant is almost empty. When it finally came out the dish was nothing exciting but it wasn't what I had originally wanted anyway. Also the arepas were bland and not the toasted brown I'm used to and the saltena dough was not fully cooked through. When it was time to pay we had to go find the server cause he was not coming by the table and I had to get going. Had to argue with him and have another customer help explain to the server in Spanish that I needed to get my own copy of the receipt. So disappointed. read more

We were in the mood for tapas, and we were happy to have found Don Churro Cafe after the lunch rush one Saturday afternoon. We sat at a two-top and were immediately greeted by Andy, our server. We tried six tapas in total, staggering the order. The tapas came out promptly, were hot, and were served with a side of cilantro-based dipping sauce. Our favorites were the Patacon con Todo (Fried plantains, topped one each with beef, chicken, and pork) and the Gambas al Ajillo (Garlic Shrimp), altho some other tapas seemed to blur together. As much as we enjoyed our tapas, we had to constantly shuffle our plates around to make room on the small table :/. The sangria (red) is one of the best we've had in any restaurant - delicous AND had some umph to it. We took our time eating, but Andy was attentive and refilled water glasses and cleared plates in a timely manner. Lastly, we ordered the Mixto Ceviche, which is comprised of white fish, shrimp, calamari, and baby mussels. This took much longer to come out, but we were happy to let our tapas settle a bit. The ceviche was fresh and the marinade had a kick to it (both spicy and tangy), and we enjoyed the sweet potato and (I believe) hominy, cooked two ways. The ceviche was served with MORE than enough red onion. Be cautious of the side of habanero sauce - hot hot hot, but it was good to try. Overall, we had a good time enjoying the sangria, hot tapas, and the ceviche. Maybe next time we'll sit at the bar or request a larger table for more room to spread out, but we will be coming here again. read more

Went here today for my birthday with my boyfriend. It was pretty good. Good customer service and terrific food. I don't even know what I got as an appetizer but it was some potato with cheese in it and it was amazing I highly recommend it. A lot to choose from as well. And delicious churros! The service is good, but I'm not sure the quality warrants the price. I got the Bendaje Paisa and while it was all around decent, the quality of the meats was nothing to brag about.
