Homie overcharges for a super even when marked 14.99. What can ya do, he's a hustler. Ain't gonna hate. Super carnitas - tad bit salty, little too much rice which I love, but was kinda dry. I had it spicy so appreciate the pickled carrots and jalapeño's. Thing was about 2lbs and I could only finish half. Solid 3.5. Cool little corner a pot. Hard to find parking, though. Recommend going with a homie to double park while you run in.

Unassuming storefront with a gem of a mini taqueria in the back. Staff were all inviting and engaged. The portion were very generous and everything felt like good quality. The proteins were all tasty and served out of steamer trays. Not sure which dishes use the grills but excited to find out on future visits. Plating was surprisingly thoughtful for take out with beautiful dishes for the foodies.

You're parked in front of Don Chuys, holding a box of nachos stuffing your face when the UPS guy stops next to you. He smiles and gives you a thumbs up. GREEN FLAG. Embarrassing but who wants to eat soggy nachos?! Over 15 years late on this but Don Chuys is an Excelsior staple...a IYKYK kinda place. They're a humble corner store with a taqueria hidden in the back. Takeout only. Their online ordering system doesn't work so call in your order. M E N U Typical taqueria staples: tacos, burritos (baby, regular, and jumbo), quesadilla, nachos, tortas, and tamales. Chips & salsa are +$1.50. --Protein choices (in steam trays): Asada, pollo (asada or guisado), carnitas, al pastor, chile verde, chile rojo, and lengua --Cheese choices: American, jack, pepperjack, or swiss --Bean choices: Refried, pinto, or black Cc's accepted (pay at the front counter). There's also an ATM onsite. Bring cash for tip! F O O D * Super Baby Nachos w/ half carnitas, half lengua, pinto beans, jack cheese, sour cream, guac, pickled jalapenos, pico de gallo ($12.95) // 4 stars: https://tinyurl.com/3r4vy8am --Requested no lettuce There's nothing baby about these baby nachos...they're huge and enough for two to share. The housemade chips are thin and crunchy yet sturdy. Since they microwave them to melt the cheese and warm the proteins + beans eat ASAP so they don't get soggy in transit. I'm a lengua girl but the carnitas shined. They're deliciously crispy and tender with golden brown edges. The stewed lengua in tomato sauce (guisada) was tender but hella salty with a strong gamey flavor. The cooling sour cream, creamy tang of the guac, and freshness of the pico de gallo provided a nice contrast to the hearty meats. S E R V I C E Cordial and fast (weekday at 3:45 pm). A M B I A N C E Hole-in-the-wall corner store. P A R K I N G Really really challenging residential street parking. There's one 10-minute green zone in front. Otherwise, prepare to double park and run in to grab your order. Overall, solid carnitas nachos (skip the lengua). Mexico Tipico is my go-to taqueria in the area but if I luck out with parking again, it's on with the baby nachos! If you find yourself around The Excelsior area, check out this local neighborhood staple.

This place is very unassuming from the outside and we had no idea they had some of the best burritos in town! We were told to try it and were not disappointed. We ordered the shrimp tacos and a breakfast burrito. The taco were very flavorful with plenty of shrimp and the sauce was delicious. The breakfast burrito was delicious as well. Large portions, very filling with reasonable prices. Great local spot.

The service is excellent. They tailor your order to your liking. The place looks like a regular shop but it has place in the back where you could order food. My Super Burrito was yummy and quite big. Fresh cilantro and very tender Lengua . The Avocado and Sour Cream was abundant. The burrito was creamy and delicious. I recommend the place specially if you are hungry.

Jumbo Burrito with Meat wow! I only ate 1/3 and was full already! Worth it for several meals!

¡Buenisimos! This is the The place to be for jumbo-sized entrees! Yep, this Jumbo burrito is legit - not just in length but in girth. It turned out to be over a foot long going 1 and a half feet! Not only that, it was packed thick as I had to palm it like a football or nerf basketball. They definitely filled it completely. No skimping on ingredients here. Every bite was good and covered in sauce or with the meat. The jalapenos gave it a nice kick too! What else? There is a green zone parking spot right in front for convenience picking up food to go! There is plenty of parking with just a little walk in the area too. The murals are also beautiful, and the people there were super nice and friendly. That along with the jumbo entrees is why I will have to return again and again to try the other dishes - 1lb carne asada nachos!

Crispy Carnitas super burrito with no pico de gallo I like it this way my favorite

We came back here again during lunch a bit after my first time. The service was nice and the location is convenient to grab drinks and snacks on your way out with your meal. I did not think much or watch while they made my food as I had an expectation from my first experience. Unfortunately, the experience was not consistent with my first time here. The super burrito I ordered this time was loaded with a pile of refried beans! It was like I was eating mush each bite. The next problem was that this burrito was loaded with a bunch of lettuce mix! I was not happy with the amount of lettuce in there and I did not even expect to have lettuce as I did not have that my first experience. I should have watched while they were making it, I suggest you watch too in case they had something you don't want.

Don Chuys located in Excelsior neighborhood is a liquor store/taqueria. It's a nice change of pace from the normal good taquerias on Mission street. It's almost like it has a neighborhood taste to it. How is that you ask? For starters, they give the choice of American cheese or pepper jack, different from the traditional Monterey used at the mission taquerias. Kooky right? The steak they use also isn't regular beef on the griddle but some sort of stewed chuck or shoulder beef. Not the normal flavor but it's nice that it's tender and moist chunks of meat. They are also the original taqueria to come up with the gut busting Jumbo burrito to my knowledge. I'm talking over 20 years ago, I was ordering these mammoth, my 600 pound life sized burritos. Prices have changed as well however. A super burrito is now $11.00, the regular is $8.50, the jumbo comes in at a $18.50. So my order totaled $55.40. Mucho dinero muchacho! The people who work here are friendly and awesome. Salt of the earth. So a place worth checking out but don't go in expecting a mission taqueria, go in expecting a neighborhood taqueria with a few mutations of the classic burrito.

Ordered the coconut braised pig ear banh mi since I never seen that on any menu before. Enjoyed the flavors. Ordered the combo with the $3 Vietnamese coffee. Also got just a bread and shrimp spring rolls. Because the banh mi is big, it seems the filling isn't as substantial but the flavors were there. The shrimp roll was ok. They don't make their bread by the hour but they make a huge batch for the day each morning. They use quality flour and the prices are a little higher but the bread is fresh and crispy. This type of banh mi reminds me of the $1.00 banh mi that my family used to eat back in the early 90s. The baguette is much longer and the bread tastes the same... nowadays the banh mi shops have adapted a thinner baguette and the bread is not the same recipe as back in the 90s, it's either too airy or too hard and sharp. So this banh mi here held some nostalgia within me as we were eating it. The bread tastes exactly like childhood. Firm not too airy and crispy (ghon as we would say it). We ordered different types of banh mi and enjoyed all of them. There was even a sardine banh mi which is something I'd see growing up or eating at home only. Not a lot of banh mi shops offer sardine version. I had the fish cake banh mi, sardine banh mi and chicken banh mi while my husband had the cold cut banh mi. We both thought it was good for SF standards. The street is very busy and there is no parking. My husband waited around the block as I went in to order and wait for the banh mi to come out. It's not really much of a long wait. And this area is pretty out of the way for most. We just happened to be around here to see what this shop had to offer. This is a hole in a wall kind of place. So don't expect any sort of ambiance. Get your banh mi and go. Most families buy their banh mi for kids as snacks in the afternoon after schools done, or at least that's how I remember my parents doing it for us !
