Heard about this place and finally decided to try. Not too far from me but know that parking was going to be difficult. I was prepared. I lucked out and found a spot on the same block! Walked in on a Saturday around 530pm. No one in line so was able to order right away. 3 super burritos at $14.99 each with Carne asada. You have to ask for salsa (red and green) and the free ones (one per order) are pretty tiny. Burritos were spicy; which I love! I have to admit they were good, but the best. Unfortunately, this missed in the flavor dept. the asada lacked seasoning and since there was a lot of rice it made the burrito dry. Definitely can be split into lunch and dinner. Wrapped in 2 tortillas and must weight 3-5 lbs at $22.75 before tax. Order at the counter under the menu and pay in front at cashier. The service was really nice. Don Chuys has been serving up food in the E for as long as I've grown up here. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and it's still a spot I frequent. Back then, you could get a cold cut sandwich for $3-4 or a baby burrito; of course, the prices have increased now, but wow, they still fill you up. I remember the monster burritos they made (and they still do today!) when I took my friends over and said, "You won't believe the price you get for these burritos", I wish I still had the photos, but it was bigger than their heads. They were believers and have been coming here ever since as well. You've got your typical corner store in the front, but once you smell that food, you'll make your way to the back to see their variety of meats and options to choose from. I always come for a super Lengua burrito (and a corner store with Lengua, come on!!!) and usually grab a bag of chips to go. The carnitas are crispy and moist, 10/10 would recommend !! They add lettuce and jalapeño to the burritos/nachos which I think is pretty unique compared to a regular taqueria. Unassuming storefront with a gem of a mini taqueria in the back. Staff were all inviting and engaged. The portion were very generous and everything felt like good quality. The proteins were all tasty and served out of steamer trays. Not sure which dishes use the grills but excited to find out on future visits. A little taqueria located in an unassuming corner grocery mart. I ordered ahead and our two burritos were ready within 5 minutes - super quick! I like that they have the option of a regular and baby burrito and there is actually a noticeable size difference between the two. Both burritos were stuffed full of ingredients although they felt a little rice heavy. I could have used more protein in mine. While the burrito was tasty, a lot of the wet ingredients were all pooled on one end which made it messy. And maybe it's just me, but it's such a turn off to see chunks of carrot in your burrito - I definitely could have done without. But overall, not a bad meal. read more

Don Chuys located in Excelsior neighborhood is a liquor store/taqueria. It's a nice change of pace from the normal good taquerias on Mission street. It's almost like it has a neighborhood taste to it. How is that you ask? For starters, they give the choice of American cheese or pepper jack, different from the traditional Monterey used at the mission taquerias. Kooky right? The steak they use also isn't regular beef on the griddle but some sort of stewed chuck or shoulder beef. Not the normal flavor but it's nice that it's tender and moist chunks of meat.They are also the original taqueria to come up with the gut busting Jumbo burrito to my knowledge. I'm talking over 20 years ago, I was ordering these mammoth, my 600 pound life sized burritos. Prices have changed as well however. A super burrito is now $11.00, the regular is $8.50, the jumbo comes in at a $18.50. So my order totaled $55.40. Mucho dinero muchacho! The people who work here are friendly and awesome. Salt of the earth. So a place worth checking out but don't go in expecting a mission taqueria, go in expecting a neighborhood taqueria with a few mutations of the classic burrito. read more

It has been a hidden gem in the neighborhood for years, and I have been going here with my family since I was a baby. Food is always hot and ready to go, made just right and made right in front of you. The chips are made there and are the best tortilla chips ever, don't even need salsa to eat them.
