I was feeling adventurous, so I went to Don Julios instead of my old standby, Dickeys BBQ. Everyone is so polite and attentive at Don Julios. I was quickly seated. They came by for my order before I figured out the menu. I'm assuming they have a solid regular crowd of locals. I base this partially on that the specials board just gave the number, but no description of some of the items. I ordered the fajitas de mar. It's just under $20 which might sound a little high for a Mexican restaurant in a strip mall, but wow it was good and a lot of food. Unless you are a big eater, you could split it with someone else. I didn't finish my guac salad or chips and salsa, but I still was overly full when I left. I need to learn to stop eating earlier than that. I had even burned off 600 calories on the bike that afternoon, I still didn't have room for all that food. Funny thing that happened was the assistant brought out all of the food except the seafood but still announced the dish. I was a little confused and poking around my salad to see if the seafood was in there. He came back a couple of minutes later with the seafood. I think that overall the staff is friendly here. I just had some shrimp tacos and the waiter spilled the red sauce all over me and the liquor menu. The waiter didn't bother to get me napkins to clean up the mess. I think the food is great, but that one waiter needs to learn to respect people who eat out at the restaurant. Don't get me wrong lost of the staff is good. It would just be nice to have silverware when you are sitting down at the table and have rice. Overall I find this restaurant to be mixed which is why I give it a 3 star and not a 2 star or a 4 star. First time going here for lunch. Wasn't sure what to expect. But was pleasantly surprised! The food was good, and very good proportion for the money you pay. I think it was one of the cheapest meals at a restaurant I've ever done with the most I've ever had. I will definitely go there over and over and over again. The only thing that I wish they would have, but I did not ask for either, was a nutritional guide. I do watch what I eat, and it would be nice to have a nutritional guide to look at. This place is for anyone who likes their margaritas out of a machine, stale chips, kraft singles on their quesadilla, mushy/soggy rice and frozen meat. The service is friendly, not too fast. We are trying to support local businesses in our small town. We ordered our food and they said it would be 15 mins we'll 25 mins later are food was ready. They don't take your name when you place your order so they call off what's in the bag. So hopefully you remember. When we arrive home to unpack our food half of our order was missing. This Don Julios has gone HORRIBLY downhill since my last visit in 2018. To critique the place from the start...We WERE seated immediately... awesome.. Drink orders were taken. Chips and salsa arrived.. but the salsa was bland and the chips tasted like the oil they were cooked in was a bit old. They offered no hot sauces either. .. We ordered 3 Jumbo house margaritas made with a Patron upgrade.. they were horribly sweet.. with no olive garnish, as their own drink menu showed. I have ALWAYS ordered the biggest item on their menu, the "Special plate".. THIS time it was absolutely disgusting... 4 of the 5 items on my plate were so salty I couldn't eat them after one bite. The Chile Rellenos on my plate was the ONLY lightly-salted food.. but it was frozen on the inside still.... Sorry MN.. but DJ's has lost all my respect. And Since WHEN... has Spanish rice been made with "Veg-All"? Horrible experience tonight. After tonight.. I reallllly don't want the alleged Pine City DJ' to open there... I've been in twice and I live in the area. I love tamales and when I tried a combo lunch it was the worst I've ever had. Mushy with no flavor. I would give them another try if a friend wanted go. Typical frozen chain food was my impression. The margarita's are ok~big batch made on tap, weak and over priced for what you're getting. In the future I'll stick with a beer, that way you know what you're getting. I sat at the bar and had a view into the kitchen/dish washing area and it was a dirty mess with a greasy wet nasty floor. I used to like Don Julio's but it continues to disappoint. Yes people are nice but had probably one of the worst service experience yesterday. First we are seated next to a table with 8 little kids and 4 adults. Not necessarily a bad thing but when the waiter appears to frazzled it's a bad thing. The rest went down hill. No need to go into details. The food was mediocre at best. I think this place should switch to fast food as that's the quality and as fast as it gets to your table. Which is baffling. Absolutely love this place, best authentic Mexican place in the area. Always get some sort of fajitas, but my favorite are the Hawaiian fajitas which contain, carnitas, chicken, pineapple, green peppers and onion. Fast food americanized mexican. The only thing authentic is the employees. Tap beers are cheap compared to other bars/restaurants and they give free tortillas and salsa. This restaurant is a great addition to the food fare choices in little North Branch, MN. I'm really glad that they opened here. We don't go out very often, but on special occasions, Don Julio's is consistently good. Love the chips and salsa before the meal, servers are friendly and service is speedy, and I LOVE the fajitas at this restaurant. I've also visited the Don Julio's location in Forest Lake and I personally like the food I have had here in North Branch much better. It seemed as if it caused him pain that we wanted to sit in a booth rather than at a table. Then every other person working there who came to our table had the same horrible attitude. We ate here last night and our service was excellent.... But then came the food. My husbands combo tasted worse than a frozen meal, my fajita's were ok but then I discovered a plastic baggy cooked in with my meat.
