Our Subaru started having issues on a long two week road trip from Colorado. We frantically came into Don K Subaru to have the service team look at our 2019 outback. Despite them being extremely busy, the team took a few minutes to run a diagnosis on my vehicle and helped us be put in the right direction for what part we needed. I had my remote start installed by Don K after purchasing my new vehicle from them. They initially told me that I would have control over it through an app. That was inaccurate. Then the vehicle would not stay started for more than 3 minutes at a time. I went in numerous times to have them reset it to 15 minute intervals as 3 minutes doesn't help much in our winters. After a few months of having it put in the horn started malfunctioning. My horn will randomly start going off while I am driving. As per many sources this is​ because of the remote start not being compatible with the vehicle. I have been in to Don K many times for them to fix the timing issues with no solution. They refuse to acknowledge the horn issue and I am now paying for another shop to remove the remote start that Don K installed and install a different one. ​ read more

Very disappointed. I was quoted $1,500 to replace a stock radio that was still under warranty. Missoula Subaru replaced it under warranty with no problem. Please double-check any major repair quotes. read more

I purchased a new Subaru from Don K Subaru in July 2025. I don't live in Whitefish but this was the only Subaru dealership I could find in Montana that had the model of vehicle I wanted in stock. The first sales person who helped me seemed knowledgeable and trustworthy. However, due to family circumstances, I had to go back a second day to make the final deal. I am happy with the vehicle I bought but the salesperson was not honest with me about some things on the vehicle and also with the extra coverage he talked me into. When I realized the discrepancies and called a manager to talk about it, I was told there was nothing they could do to make it right and that they had never had anyone else complain. From what I am now reading in others' reviews, there clearly have been other unhappy customers. I love Subaru cars (this is my third), but I will never do business with Don K Subaru again. If you want a Subaru in Montana, go to Placer Motors in Helena. They sold me my last two Subarus and I have been using their service department for 13 years now. Our rental Subaru was giving us some trouble, so we popped in to see if they could help. The team there was very professional, very helpful, and kind! They helped us reset the notifications on the car after running some tests on it and gave us some good advice for the next time something like that happens. Bought a 2024 crosstrek sport . When I ordered it I put down a Thousand dollars and waited a month and a half. When the vehicle came in They gave it to somebody else. I was given a different color choice that was told has the same option. But the worst thing was we wanted remote start. We were never told that that is a additional monthly charge or yearly charge. I think its wrong to pay that kind of money for a new car and then have them charge you for a simply remote start thats was installed at the factory. Request for simple oil change. Was told 90 minute wait. Too long to wait. Called back 3 hours later and was told wait was running 30 minutes. Arrived 10 minutes later and was told wait was 90 minutes. Asked to speak to manager and he pretty must shrugged his shoulders. Last straw for Don K. Easy to see why they rate 2 stars. 2 stars too many. read more

They call it Express Oil change but they are very very slow. Will be an hour and a half even if you are first one there.

We were traveling from Ohio to Glacier National Park when our brakes, that we had just replaced before leaving on vacation, went out. Even though there were no appointments available for a couple days, they got us in and back on the road! Thanks especially to Ryan, our service agent for all he did to fit us into the schedule right away instead of losing more days of our vacation! Bought a new Forester 5 weeks ago in Southern Ca. Drove here for vacation. Had a rubbing and screeching for 2 days after driving on unpaved roads. Came at opening time to have our car looked at. Service manager refused. No openings for travelers or visitors. Very poor service not to have openings for visitors. Manager said the service dept couldn't look at car for 2 days. Said it may be a rock and would only take 20 minutes. Begged for him to look at it. Refused. May be only and last Subaru we buy. Very poor customer service!!! Service manager is Mark Ainslie and showed the poorest customer service we have ever witnessed. read more

This was the first time my husband and I have purchased a new vehicle and the experience was fantastic. AJ guided us through the whole process and treated us like long time friends. Poor communication. I just tried to register my new car, which I love, but the lease was not at the MVD because another form was needed at the dealership. Why did I not know this before I got to the MVD? This does not make me feel like a valued customer. read more

Beware of parts replacement and inadequate diagnosis of problems. I came to Don K to see where the oil that was dripping on my manifold coming from on the driver's side. I have had them do most of my oil changes for quite some time. I called them and they promptly hooked me up with a 2020 Forester! I drove around in that for a full day. On the next day i had not recieved a call until 11 am. I know it would be more expensive the longer they waited to call. Upon the call back they informed me that my jead gasket was leaking badly and that the oil pan and the oil pressure switch were all leaking. Weeks ago I had a loose dipstick that was never seated correctly by the dealership and ended having to troublshoot that problem myself. While under ththe car, i noticed oil coming down and dripping off the timing belt housing. I didn't think much of it. I thought maybe a crank seal. The moment I walked in the door, the sales department was already hounding me about buying a new vehicle. They called me while the service writer was trying to sell me on a headgasket job. I informed him i had the multi layered steel gaskets installed 60,000 miles ago. He started to backpeddle and told me that it was only 1 side leaking. I returned the rental vehicle and drove away in my leaky car. They charged me a half hour of diagnosis time when obviously nothing had been even looked at. I went to a friend's shop and we began to investigate. I cleaned the oil pressure switch area, because i had a hunch that that was the problem. Is also the highest point covered in oil in the engine. I can see by that no cleaning was done and there were no signs of investigation. I cleaned the top and all the way under the head and the manifold. I drove ot home and checked it. In a 15 minute drive i leaked over a tablespoon of oil. It was pooled all over the top of the block and all around the switch. Guess what. The channels in the outside of the engine led it to the timing cover, and the manifold. The head is still dry. I am replacing the part today to the tune of 24 dollars. The only good part about this transaction was the loaner car. Don K, you should be ashamed of yourself for selling parts and work not required, for shamelessly trying to have me unload my perfectly good and well maintained car for a payment of a new vehicle, and for attempting to rip off a poor college student. read more

Worst dealership ever. Got hung up on trying to make an appointment to get my 2018 Subaru to stop making a high pitched noise. When I arrive I'm informed the vehicle has 4 recalls and they need it all day. Was told they would make sure the noise was alleviated and they would call me first thing in the next morning. No one called. When I picked up my car it's making the same high pitched noise. Terrible service, and terrible excuses. read more

If it were possible to leave a no star comment I would, First off if you have more than one customer looking at the same vehicle to purchase perhaps it may behoove your customers to know more than one party is interested in the same vehicle. But instead your sales team decided to sell the vehicle out from underneath someone and then call them the next day and say the vehicle is was sold AFTER stating the night before : "sounds good, looking forward to meeting you tomorrow." More than three days of negotiation and phone calls wasted because of EXTREMELY poor communication and customer service. Buyer beware, if you don't have a deposit for the vehicle in advance chances are they will sell it out from under you! I was looked forward to dealing with this dealership in the future but now... I bought a new car the last week of March 2018, trading in my old one. I told them every step along the way that I had just paid off the old car and didn't have the clear title yet. They said that was no problem. A week later I got a call that they needed the title and lien release. I requested those from my lender, but was told it would take a week to receive. I called Don K and left a message that it was going to take a week to get the title and lien release and that by that time, I would be out of town for 2 weeks. They didn't respond, so I assumed all was good. Little did I know that they were holding the new car's registration information hostage until they had this paperwork on my trade-in. They did not inform me of this at any time. Now my temporary registration is about to run out and their suggestion was that I DRIVE the paperwork there (100 miles each way) and then they will SEND the registration information to the DMV. When I explained that I can't drive the car without a current registration, they suggested I mail the paperwork. Of course, by the time I mail the paperwork to them and then wait for them to mail the registration information back to DMV, I will have been unable to drive my car for over a week. This is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. read more
