They said it was extremely corroded and needed to be replaced. I am doing a bunch of renovations to my house right now, and decided it was time to replace the old pipe. I called around and got a few quotes that were pretty ridiculous, and one company wanted me to pay for them to come out and give me a quote, even though they are literally 1.9 miles away from my house! I finally called my plumber who has worked with my family for decades, but doesn't do this type of work. He recommended John. I called him up, and he came right over and gave me a very reasonable quote. I booked him the following week. His crew came out at 8:30am. He had told me that the water would be off for 4 to 6 hours, and that they would be done before 5pm. They turned off the water at around 10:30, and were done with the job by 1:30. After quietly observing the derogatory lectures he ranted on about, I listened as he quoted some crazy price and left. He called a short while later asking what we wanted to do, and my brother said that we were leaning towards capping it, even if it was a temporary fix as we needed the water back on. John told him he'd cap it today free of charge, but he needs $2300 cash upfront tomorrow for the major fix. As it seemed a ridiculous (cash) amount, we sought a second opinion. Another plumber called after reviewing the videos of the leak and although he couldn't make it, he was happy to provide a solution so that some other plumber (I.e. John) could-- take notes John, THAT'S good service. When my brother proposed the idea to John over the phone he responded "I thoroughly explained to you why we could or couldn't do that", again in a derogatory voice. You don't want to take the time to explain it again to someone who isn't a plumber? Okay fine, I guess I get it. At this point I told my brother that my fiancé was arriving in a couple hours, and he's capped pipes before, it shouldn't be a big deal if you want to wait for the other plumber to be available. This December I had an aneurysm and then 4 days later pen heart surgery, now back home recovering to discover oh here's an issue for Tom, the shower faucets are original to the 1947 home and have finally given up the ghost. There was no charge for his visit to come over and do that temporary fix, that's the kind guy he is, a good one who won't take advantage of you. A couple weeks later he came over with the new faucet unit, installed it which was not an easy job considering the 1947 degraded tile he had to chip away at... It wasn't long before he had installed the new unit and it's been working like a charm since. His bill was fair and reasonable as is all his jobs that he's done here at my home. How about this, I'm away working on location on a movie out of state, the 1947 sprinkler pipes burst out front and who comes to save the day, Tom!
