Bomb authentic Mexican food. Pleasant surprise in a Scandinavian themed town. Perfect blend of a real Mexican restaurant and a walk up grab and go- meaning the food was restaurant food but the ease and efficiency was ridiculously good. Got a little upset for a second about there being no beer, but fear not, there a bar literally right outside the door and it was no big deal to grab a couple coldies and come back with them just in time for the food to arrive. Honestly I expected a little better considering that the restaurant claims to be authentic Mexican food. Of course being in solvang you should have I'm mind the dishes will be a little pricey. For $12 a plate of loaded nachos I was hoping it would be at least filling and "loaded" but I was wrong. The plate was cold, the meat was okay but it wasn't warm. The portion was that of a 10 year old, small. The service was mediocre, only 3 people working that were visible and it was packed. The restaurant is tiny so there isn't much room at all. Even sitting outside with my son in a stroller I had 0 leg room, no space to maneuver around people and there were various potted plants that got in the way. I was sat at a dirty table full of plates and when I asked a worker to clean my table where my family was already seated, instead of spraying his cleaner on the towel he sprayed the table and got me and my 6 month son wet with the chemicals! I'm not sure why this place has 5 stars, it's basic Mexican food, nothing special. Small little restaurant. You order at the counter, sit down and they bring you the food. Service was fine. This place was so yummy! Definitely a hidden spot in the midst of Solvang. It's very casual dining here but well worth it. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and they were great, I would definitely recommend. The rice and beans paired great as-well. Very authentic Mexican food here that I can approve of. The horchata was great as well don't skip it! They have limited seating inside and outside as this is a small spot. Prices were very reasonable and portions were generous. Tucked away from the crowded streets of Solvang, Don Nacho's has the BEST Mexican food in all of Santa Ynez Valley. It's a small family-run shop with a menu full of your typical street tacos, burritos, tortas as well as some traditional items like milanesa! Since we discovered it about a month ago, we've been going at least twice a week. Great place to try some decent Mexican food in Solvang. Small hole in the wall but the service is great. Price is fair and the quality is right. Tried the nachos, half pastor and half chicken. Whenever I visit Solvang I long for the carne asada tacos served here. I found out about this place from an obscure sign placed around Jensen's Copenhagen Square. That was the best sign I've ever read as this place is a Mexican Oasis. I can go on about the service, the smells, and the comforting architecture of the place however I am here to simply rave about the carne asada tacos. It is clear upon tasting the carne that the cow's sacrifice for my nourishment was warranted. That cow must have been a happy cow as the meat was as fresh as the Santa Ynez Valley can offer. Fresh meat seals the deal with any taco. The luxurious mahogany brown colors of the meat combine with the vibrant colors of the fresh tortilla, cilantro, onions, radish, and limes. Bougie vocabulary aside, it's a great tasting taco and the flavors pair beautifully with the Mexican Coke sold here. The only weakness about these tacos is that there are none. There are reviews that state that they are basic though, that's why they're very good. There's no need to reinvent the wheel or the taco. I would grade this place and the tacos with an A+ for outstanding service and food that makes me feel nostalgic. If you eat food, I recommend you try the carne asada tacos. read more

Amazing, fresh and hot food! This place had just 10 reviews and 5stars, I was kinda apprehensive to try out a lesser rated place in a new town. But most of the other restaurants were closed by the time we decided to eat. And thus walked down to this tiny place in an ally next to the solvang windmill and viking restaurant. We ordered chicken tacos, veg tacos and burrito bowls. The chicken tacos very super yummy and freshly made and nice hot on a cold day. We visited Solvang for the first time and the restaurant was vacant with only one customer at the time. At this moment we had yet to select a place to eat but upon entry into the restaurant we were greeted by the most rude hostess I have come across in all my years. I usually write positive reviews but I was so taken aback by her behavior that we decided not to eat there ever. I pray no one ever finds themselves in the same situation I was in and walks in there ... they will make you feel less than human. I now know why there were no customers in the restaurant. read more

What a wonderful small hidden treasure. My husband and I found this on the last night of our 4 day stay in Solvang. Food was simply delicious. Very authentic. I had the taco plate and my husband had the chicken fajitas. I've rarely had such deep flavors in the chicken and steak. The beans- homemade and so good. Rice was good. But the salsa was out of this world. Get the freshly made chips. They're extra but I wish I would have brought an order home. Same with the homemade salsa!! I got a bottle of beer and the nicest young man brought me a chilled mug and 2 limes. This is why we love dining at a small family owned establishment. We'll be back! read more

I really love Don Nacho's Cafe. We moved to Solvang about a year ago from SB and I've really been missing yummy & affordable Mexican food. All of the other Mexican food I've tried out here in the valley, I just haven't liked at all, except for Dos Carlitos, but that's in the "occasional treat" price range for us. Don Nachos is just as good, in my opinion, but more accessible for busy weeknights or a quick lunch date. Yes, you do have to pay for and order chips & salsa, but it's totally worth it! Seriously, just do it. You won't be disappointed! Their chips are super crispy and made fresh on-site, the salsa that comes with them is a roasted, spicy blend of greatness, and their Guac is one of my favorites! We've also tried and loved the Pupusas with pork, Torta with Carnitas, Tacos with chicken & pastor, and Chicken Quesadillas. All were GREAT and I can't wait to try their Sopes next time :-) read more

It's in the brick courtyard walkway area that separates Alisal from the back parking lot near the Mission. The food is delicious and they are friendly. The service is quick too. My burrito consisted of 80 % rice and the rest was beans, tomatoes, avocado and the sour cream. My husband's burrito had a very little meat in it. This is a great hole-in-the-wall place. The food is excellent. I had the taco salad and it was very good. The salsa is hot. Ambiance is meh, but the food makes up for it. We went Thursday after Labor Day and Solvang was very quiet. The restaurant across from us was empty, but Don Nachos was busy serving the locals. Also it is dog-friendly, with outside seating to accommodate dogs. I will go back. read more
