Please take this review from someone who is generally very generous. We ate here for the first time tonight. Friendly hostess. VERY loud environment. We ordered a Texas shelf marg that was like water for $16. Do NOT recommend . We were advised that we could not sit at the bar and get a cocktail as there was no bartender. We were seated before the 35 minute wait time which was great. Some of the support staff do not understand English- "hot salsa?". Received our food after a bit of an extended wait. Food was pretty good-I say better than Mexican village, but my husband is partial to them so he said MV was better. Worth a try if you don't mind noise and a bit of a language barrier. read more

I've been here a few times and the food has always been good. This time I ordered the fried ice cream which was nothing but a ball of ice cream rolled in corn flakes and put into a shell. It was covered in whipped cream and chocolate sauce. It was not fried ice cream as I've had before. In fact the past few Mexican places I've been do not fry their fried ice cream. read more

It's hard to do a review on a new restaurant as they are still ironing out their wrinkles. Owner has done a nice job giving the restaurant a more modern flair. I feel their wait staff did well. It appears some could be just learning the profession? Staff presents pleasant and generally happy to be there. Great fresh salsa served in your own small carafe with good chips!!! Has a little heat but one that makes you want more! LOL The queso with chorizo was yummy. The food is fresh. Beef and cheese burrito was great. The beef tacos with the dip was good but needed some salt. The beans were prob the best I have ever had. The pork burrito was good but had a scorched flavor to them. Possibly from the warming up process on a dry very hot grill? Minus this flavor, they have the texture and moistness combination mastered! I prefer pork dishes myself and was happy to see this on the menu. All and all I would come back again. Went today for lunch & ordered the #16 lunch special, which is the same as their Chori Burrito (I asked) with the exception of added pineapple as well as $6 less. I asked for no beans & I still wanted the rice, which our server told me it had & was the same as the Chori Burrito, with the addition of pineapple. The #16 was good, but it didn't have rice or pineapple & very little chorizo which I was disappointed in. The chicken had great flavor, but was a tad bit dry. The white cheese sauce on top was yummy. It was the perfect size for lunch & the Chori Burrito listed in their Burrito area of the menu I was told was larger. I'd still go back & try something different. read more

First off, the food was amazing! They just opened so yes they were busy and a little chaotic in the waiting area but it was worth it for the food! I had the taco sampler which came with a chicken, beef, steak, chorizo, and pork taco. My husband had steak and chorizo tacos and he said that they were some of the best tacos that he's ever had. Currently they only have one high chair so plan accordingly. The party before us got it, but thankfully our toddler was behaving. BEST Mexican food in Macomb County. Everything is made fresh with "old family recipes". Service is awesome and servers are so friendly and attentive. We were really spoiled by the Mexican Food in Colorado and have lived here for 15+ years, always on the lookout for good Mexican and happened upon Don Patron which is now our favorite. We've had many of the items on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. Highly recommend the restaurant for the food quality. We also NEVER feel the menu items are over-priced. All I can say is what a pleasant and unexpected surprise this was. Was headed to a different restaurant and stumbled upon Don Patron while driving by and of course Mexican always takes top preference. Service was friendly and timely. The restaurant itself was clean and modern. The food arrived and our eyes bugged out at the size of the portions and how nicely it was presented on the plates. I waited until I had been here a few times before leaving a review. I know everyone has their own opinions regarding Mexican food, and to be honest I've never had authentic Mexican so I have no idea if this is it or not and frankly I don't care. It's definitely different from El Charo's, Juan Miguel's etc. that said it's actually pretty good! After my first visit when I knew what to expect I enjoyed it a lot! A lot of people complained about only getting mild salsa, but if you ask they will bring you hot. I imagine they do this to minimize food waste. Out of the 4 times I've been there they only made 1 mistake on my order: I asked for a chicken chimichanga and got a ground beef instead. (Worked out well as I liked that better than the chicken) I'm not a fan of their rice or beans though. The beans taste like coffee and the rice is just...basic. You have to ask for sour cream, it's not automatically served. I find the service to be just fine, however I usually go during off peak hours. The inside decor is just ok. It's an old Pizza Hut so they did the best with what they had to work with. It doesn't look like a Mexican restaurant and with all tile floors it gets loud. read more

My Arroz Con Polo with shrimp was a good size portion and the shrimp was properly cooked, but also bland. Needed more seasoning, lime juice, something. The rice was boring. again, minimal seasoning. Friend had the Enchiladas Vallarta with shrimp and fake crab. Krab. Also a good size portion but he really disliked the fake Krab and only ate the shrimp. This dish was also bland and needed more seasoning. I don't mean to drag this place too much because it was overall pretty good. But PLEASE start seasoning the food more!!!! read more

I do not think it's fair that this restaurant has the poor reviews it has received. Don Patron is the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Today, my husband and I enjoyed the lunch faijtas, and my children shared a kids' meal. I placed the order over the phone, and the server was courteous. My husband picked up the food, and he said everyone who worked there was very nice. The food was hot and perfect when he got home. They even threw in a free bag of housemade tortilla chips! The food was so, so good and made exactly how we ordered it. We will definitely order again, probably once a week, because we love Mexican food so much! Please give them a try. I ordered two crispy street tacos and they rang up three, I let it slide. I decided to add a side of pico sauce which they charged me $2.65 and was about two spoonfuls. The worst part was getting home and finding out the tacos were not crispy, just raw corn tortillas not even warmed on a flat top. I really hate to even say 1 thing negative but- the esquites was good- I'm just not used to have pico in it. Wasn't as creamy/ sweet/ cheesy with the pico de gallo. But don't let that deter you- this place is bomb, great people working here, great chefs, great service. 10/10! It was fine. I think the day we went they had just open that same day. They were short staffed, and some items on the menu weren't available yet. My son ordered a kids cheese quesadilla. The tortilla was crisp and buttery but empty, there was no cheese in it. But he was still able to get full off of the taco and fries. We'll give it another try in a few months when everything has settled down and hopefully all the menu items are available. read more

Everything! Delicious authentic Mexican food with very personable service. Has a full bar with fantastic margaritas. It's an open type style restaurant and it is not very large, but it's just enough room. I have been there several times and have yet to be disappointed. The prices are also fair! I've only done take out here. When I walk in to pick up, I've noticed it's very cold. It's not super inviting inside. Which is fine if you're cool with just going in, eating and leaving. Take out services we're outstanding the first time. The second time I called I was hung up on several times. When I finally got someone to answer he had an extreme attitude like he had better things to do. When I got there to pick up, I asked why their phones were acting strange. He gave me a very condescending smile and mumbled something I didn't understand. Then the girl working the register started laughing and saying "oh, it gets messed up when a lot of people call at the same time". Ehhhhh. I'm pretty sure they can have people on hold, even in a cordless phone. It's 2023. Just seems like they don't care about take out orders and the condescending behavior had me steaming when I left. I won't be back. I'm generally pretty fair. But if I have to call 7 times to order food, then the employees make ME feel stupid after asking about their phones. Im not returning. Plus the second time, the order got messed up. So. If you like mediocre Mexican food and a cold chair, eat in. If you like being made fun of in Spanish, then order a carry out. :) read more

Very good Mexican food, for the area. Great pricing for the portions. Salsa was excellent and homemade. (I would make a request that they add tomatillo green salsa to the menu). The shredded chicken in my enchilada and the sauce were wonderful. Refried beans were very flavorful & authentic. The steak fajitas and guacamole were also very good. Honestly, our server was very nice and I told her to take her time since they were so busy and clearly understaffed. My fiancé and I each had a jumbo margarita. The margaritas were great and pretty strong. The food on the other hand...not good. My fiancé is half Mexican. Him and I would not consider it authentic Mexican food. It was not flavorful at all. I didn't even eat what I ordered. I took a bite of everything to try and was super disappointed. My fiancé didn't like his food either. He didn't have the heart to tell our nice waitress about our food so he just asked for a box and we tossed it. I ordered the giant beef burrito and the taco combo with 2 hard shell, rice and beans. Requested no sour cream for the burrito. Weirdly, sour cream was added to the lettuce, tomato and cheese that comes on the side to add to the burrito. Strike #1. The ground beef itself is ground to the consistency of meal.
