Beef quesadilla

So I've gone back several times after my last review because I found an item on the menu that I really like & its consistently good every time. Unfortunately, I don't think I want to come back. I dined in recently on a weekday with only 2 other tables filled but my waiter decided to just hand me the bill and a carry out container while I was just starting to eat my burrito. I thought that was so rude, especially because I was sitting alone, had my headphones in and wasn't bothering ANYONE. The customer service here has always been meh at best but I ignored it because the food was good and I usually order takeout so I don't have to deal with them too much. My experience last week just made me realize that I'm not okay with giving people my money when they don't even want me as a customer. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt but that was unacceptable to me.

Don Patron. I don't think people can comprehend just how good this place is - not until they've experience a meal from there. For almost 2 years now, my fiancé and I have frequented Don Patron at least once a month. This is the best Mexican food money can buy in the state and quite possibly this side of the country. Pictured below are just a couple of the meals I've had over the last few years. The burritos are all massive, so exciting. The portions are huge here. Most meals come with a side of rice and beans. This isn't your average rice though. This is the best rice I've ever eaten. They must cook it in chicken or beef broth - it's absolutely packed with flavor. I always ask for a side of Jalepeno, too. They grill the jalepeno and put Tajin (I think) on them. SO good! The fiancé (picky gal she is) has only ever ordered the Quesabirria tacos. When my lady likes something, SHE LIKES SOMETHING. She has tried Quesabirria at other places, and each time she is on the verge of tears because she claims "nothing even compares to Don Patron's Quesabirria". That is a direct quote. This is a restaurant I would gladly drive over an hour to get too, or even just wait in line in a cramped vestibule for 2 hours. It's that good. The staff are the cherry on top. Everyone is so incredibly nice. Most of them recognize my fiancé and I as we go so often! Handshakes and catching up on life is always part of our experience. This is my favorite restaurant in Michigan. It's quaint, but WOW does it have flavor. The best part, I rarely run into any lactose issues (as you all know, I'm severely intolerant of lactose). I love this restaurant. I pray for this restaurant. May their tables always be full of happy, paying customers!! To the staff at Don Patron, God Bless You. You have brought so much joy and satisfaction to us here in the greater Detroit Metropolitan area!

We were recommended to check out Don Patron's by my boyfriend's co worker who bragged about the place and said he and his wife go every week to 2 weeks...They have a huge menu, so give yourself time to look it over beforehand. We were greeted and seated right away when we came in and were given chips and salsa. They do have one of the better salsas, I like it when I visibly can see chunks of white onion and cilantro. It's definitely not the best, I think Mexico City has a better one and our all time favorite place is Los Galanes in Mexican Town, Detroit. My Birria tacos were decent and my rice was nice and fluffy, seasoned. I think I enjoyed more than the BF did. Again he has a high standard ever since I turned him onto my family's favorite place we've been going to for 25 years lol. If you like margaritas, we didn't partake but they have huge ones with spickets on them at your table with blinking flashing colored lights if that's your thing

This is a pic of the dinner flautas with sauce and cheese.

Went for lunch, had to tell the employees their sign was still showing closed. If I was a customer not meeting people I knew were already inside, I would have thought they were closed and left (no biggie) Waiter had no idea what a Gluten Free menu was so we asked him to ask a manager. I was told, "you just gotta look through the menu to see if you can find something". Normally, I would have walked out at that point. Was with friends so I stayed. I order the flautas. Per the picture in the menu, they come covered in verde sauce and cheese. Mine were dry (see photos). My friend ordered the #12 fajitas lunch, which was supposed to come with a fajita, taco and rice. She had to tell the waiter she was missing an item. He came back and said no, it just fajitas, taco.... Oh yeah ok I'll get you one. The fried ice cream was really good but they only had 1 left, no biggie. The waiter either had not been trained or was so shy he needs some more training to get out of his shell. And in today's world of food allergies, he should have been trained on what gluten allergies are. He was inexperienced on the menu, had to look at at it to see what we were ordering. He was nice for not being talkative but didn't ask to refill our drinks or bring more water when our glasses were more than half empty. Not a big deal. However, when you roll all of those little issues into 1 meal experience, we won't be back, I know good help is hard to find, but I didn't think it was that hard to find. Would have been nice if the manager walked around and talked to the customers. However, after he ate his lunch, he was never seen again.

My all time FAVORITE restaurant. The setting is very open and inviting, the service is quick and delightful, and the food absolutely speaks for itself. I like to try new things every time I go out, but I am in LOVE with the Quesabirria and churros here.

Watch out for the takeout and convenient fee.

Food is good, but pay attention to the convenient and takeout fee. If we aren't struggling enough in this economy.

Update. They have been open a year and have really improved on a few items. The salsa now has flavor; yay! They have more personnel so service has improved 10X better. We live around the corner so we are now regulars and have noticed the quality of the food is very good.

Strange color and very bland.

Very over priced and very bland. Chimichangas came out like burritos swimming in some white sauce. Margarita was bland and well. With all the places around here for Mexican food this place rates very low on my scale. Would not recommend at all. Not sure how people rate this as 5. Chips are straight out of a bag taste like cardboard no flavor. Salsa is like tomato's probably out of a jar. Asked for hot they brought this oily stuff with seeds in it.

We were not planning on having dinner here but we saw it as we drove by and decided to dine in. We got the fish tacos and shrimp tacos. The shrimp and fish were very well seasoned but too salty for our taste. Even the rice and refried beans were very salty. Chips and salsa were good. Not sure if their other menu items are just as salty or if it was just the chef that made our meal? It was very busy on a Friday night and everyone around us seemed to enjoy their food.

Now here we are celebrating another family members Birthday and we were a party of seven tonight (Six of us were from the previous celebration)... stay with me, there's a point I'm going to make. So, we all had very different orders and drinks two months ago and everything was fabulous as it always is and it just so happens that we got the same Waitress tonight that we had before and not only did she remember us, but she also remembered what each one of us ordered. I mean food AND Drinks... down to the Sugar Rim on the Margaritas and the side shots on some other drinks being served! She even remembered that I ordered Lime and Cilantro on the side of my meal and had a preference of Corn Tortillas! COME ON MAN!!! PIA IS AMAZING!!! Juan Miguel's... I don't know what you guys are paying this young woman, but whatever it is... it is not enough! She is phenomenal! Don't get me wrong, we come there for the fantastic food but Pia has made the experience something much more special than we anticipated. She's truly the type of employee that you ALWAYS take care of. She's good for business. We'll see you guys next month. We told her so and we know one thing for certain... SHE WON'T FORGET!

Important point - their salsa served with chips before and with the meals is overloaded with chili powder (dark color) and would make an amazing base for chili. We didn't finish either dish due to the salsa and were really hungry by the time we arrived after traveling. The restaurant was semi full so must be some like that. For us - no bueno! Won't be back. We were kind about our critique and waitress received it well. Restaurant was clean and well kept. I mean this with kindness - Recuerdos! (Best wishes) PS: shockingly waitress agreed with us and stated she doesn't recommend the restaurant even though she works there. Try it for yourself and see if it works for you though.

If you visit Taco Bell or El Charro, you're supporting a corporation. If you visit this place…read moreyou're supporting a family. My wife and I have been running errands and wanted to try something new for supper and found this place on yelp. When we arrived it seemed a little quiet, but the hostess/waitress quickly appeared and showed us to a table. From there everything went smoothly. I opted for a plate of enchiladas, and found them to be very well prepared and seasoned. The salsa had that wonderful tomato forward texture to it that I enjoy very much. The room is small, and it's clear that they get most of their business on carryout. That being said I think if you showed up with a somewhat larger party they would be glad to take care of you. They certainly took good care of us.

Being that I'm on this side of town for a few days, I figured it was finally time to check it out. The location's much bigger with more seating than the Rochester Hills one. Nicely decorated with ample seating, you order at the counter and they run the food out to you. Not sure if they have waitresses or not, but that's how they were running it when I was there. I asked if they had Birria tacos and the man behind the counter said they do, just not on the menu. I ordered the taco dinner with shredded beef, rice, beans and a glass of water. I got served chips and dip which was okay, but the salsa was a bit runny for my liking. The "hot" salsa was good, and wasn't overpowering. Eventually, my food came out and it was a huge portion! I was impressed with all three tacos, rice and beans. It was only $13 on the menu, so I was happy with how much food I was served. The beef was a little on the dry side but still fairly good. Rice and beans were decent, but the music was a bit on the louder side. I docked a star for the meat being a bit dry and louder music considering it wasn't really necessary. The man who rang me up was super nice and friendly and also went through the menu with me since I had a few questions before ordering. Overall, a decent meal for the price and I'd return in the future.
