The food here is always great! Though you could eat it all by yourself, the Italian Sampler is nice for sharing. You should also consider sharing one of the many delicious large entrees! When I'm there I know I'm eating at one of those good, family owned restaurants. When people travel to Daytona Beach, I'm not the only one to make a point to eat at Don Vito's to catch-up. There is no ambiance in restaurant, it is drab and dark. The owner is the only server, but that was not a problem since there were so few patrons. We wanted lasagna but they did not have any and we were at restaurant by 5:30. We ordered a pizza which took over 30 minutes to get. Once we got pizza all of the above was redeemed. It was deliciously made to order. We had far too much pizza left and it was wrapped up very well and not in a box because we were traveling and our server recognized a box is more awkward to handle. It was disappointing that we did not get to eat authentic Italian food that evening(I know pizza is Italian, but when you go to an authentic Italian restaurant that is not what I look for.) On a family vacation and didn't know where to go. Leaned on the good reviews this place had and was extremely disappointed. Not sure how it has such high reviews. Upon immediately entering it was a sad scene--super empty on a Friday night before the 4th of July in a beach town. The ambiance was not homey, instead everything was black and grey, with not much to make you feel comfortable. The staff was fine but the food was not. We were immediately told there was no pizza left, but it was only 7:30pm on a Friday night and it was really disappointing they were somehow already out of it. We ordered the garlic knots and they were raw in the middle. The tomato sauce that went with them had no flavor. We order some chicken and pasta, and spaghetti and meatballs for our kid. The food was so bad we all had stomach aches after and could not finish our food. My son threw up at the table as well and we realized we never should have sat down--our gut was right as soon as we walked in thinking this place wasn't great. We sat down anyways and wanted to give it a try since it had good reviews, but it was major waste of time. Really sad place and the food not great. I love supporting mom and pop's but this one might need a restart. TLDR: Average Huge foodie who doesn't always take the time to write reviews but after being asked by our server (who I also believe was the owner) to write one, I feel compelled to not only act upon the request but to also be honest about my experience. To start, we walked in expecting it to be extremely busy due to our peak weekend dinner arrival time and the place having a lot of reviews. The inside wasn't anything fancy but it felt homey and like a family establishment. As stated above, I believe our server was the owner and must get a lot of tourists because she immediately assumed we were from out of town. Overall experience wasn't bad but nothing stood out and not necessarily a place I would run back to. For food I had the chicken parm which was recommended as the most popular dish and substituted the marinara for vodka sauce. The dish was also covered in a good amount of cheese which was definitely the highlight of the dish. My lovely girlfriend had the eggplant parm which I honestly enjoyed more than the chicken (if you added the vodka sauce lol) and I was debating on including this or not but was a bit put off by the server when we also asked to order a smaller pizza to share. I don't think what we ordered was an unreasonable amount especially given we were going to take some of the pizza home for leftovers but as someone who has struggled with disordered eating and going out to eat can often be stressful, so multiple comments such as "wow you guys are so hungry" , "dang he's still eating the pizza" and telling stories about other customers who have come in and finished large amounts of food just rubbed me the wrong way. I must add that I don't think it was meant with an ill intent and you can tell they know/care about their visitors but nonetheless still an honest feeling to note. The pizza itself was alright, but similar to the food just lacked any unique flavor. I enjoy more doughy pizza and this had a lot more crunch so my girlfriend enjoyed it more than I did. We skipped out on desert (probably out of fear of hearing another hunger joke) but the cannoli looked good. Bill was $85 for us two and would say that it's a decent place to take your kids for pizza but if looking for a nice date night or more fancy Italian I'd advise elsewhere. read more

So disappointed in our experience with Don Vito's. We ordered cheese pizza + garlic knots, how could that get messed up? The garlic knots were literally attached to the foil that they came on and were hard as a rock, they seemed to have good flavor, but would break a tooth if you ate them. The cheese pizza - had so much flour or cornmeal on the bottom that you could shake the "dust" off before eating it and still have it all over your hands, table/lap. We felt like family the whole time, our food was almost TOO good, we left so stuffed because we couldn't stop eating it. If you see 1 bad review, ignore it because it's not true. I had the penne ala vodka (picture attached), and it was so good. I tasted my SIL's lobster ravioli too, and it was INCREDIBLE. The vodka sauce is just really really good. We arrived around 8:30 pm Saturday night and outside the restaurant seemed dark. Both my brother and fiance questioned by pick but I told them we should go in and arent we glad we did. First we started the night with garlic knots and marinara sauce. The marinara sauce stuck out as it was AHmazing! Being italian myself I never order red sauce out (no one can do it like momma) but Don Vitos did! The dinner salads were mostly just a small bowl of romaine with two tiny chunks of cukes and a few thin slices of tomato for $4.95 a pop. The medium pizza was large. Not salty at all. In fact, there was almost no detectable spice. We had the veggie. Satisfactory. They are a little skimpy with the topping. eg. just 2 tiny slices of broccoli, a few chunks of pepper & onions.
