I've been sleeping on this place for all you can eat sushi. The sashimi cuts were delicious and huge. You can also order from their Korean menu along with your ayce which was awesome. The bulgogi was great. One thing I wasn't a fan of is the rice used for the sushi is Korean rice which is much more dense and has a strong flavor compared to the normal sushi rice. It was a fair price for the great meal. Service was friendly. Make sure to use the button to call for a server. Normal for Korean restaurants. I have a monthly dinner with the coworkers and we chose this restaurant. My coworkers were happy they joined, all you can eat for $40?? Sign me up!! Korean bbq and sushi included plus side dishes. We looked like piggies ordering everything. It was a first time kbbq experience for a couple people and they enjoyed it. I didn't make a reservation, but walked in and asked if necessary when I was waiting for everyone to arrive. Food was delicious! We ran out of room on our table, they gave us a cart to put additional plates. We marked off the items on paper for the items we wanted to order, food came out quickly. I do like going to this location for the taste of the food and the value . You can do a là carte or all you can eat kbbq or just korean food . A decent value price wise. The food tastes good and I like going for that. The service is always tough. They are usually short staffed. You feel bad for the team and they try but sometimes you sit and wait for 10-20 minutes before you get even a cup of water . How long does it take for food ? Expect to wait another 20 to 40 minutes . If you're patient it would be good food and make sure to have food company as you patiently wait for your food. read more

We were so excited to try this restaurant after we had tried on similar so we wanted to see how this restaurant compared. We came in and were seated right away, the restaurant wasn't busy at all. We were greeted by a woman and she asked what we wanted for food and drinks. We placed our order for both our drinks and what we wanted to cook on the grill. The person helping us turned on the grill and brought our food shortly after. We didn't know until a bit after that the grill was turned up way to hi it cooked the food way to fast which gave it a charred taste. Also the food we tried wasn't very good. Korean restaurants are limited in Minnesota. I love that they have everything I want to eat. It's a bit of a drive for me, but they have great portions. The servers are friendly. I love that they serve cold noodle soup all year. Our favorites are the Tangsuyuk, naeng myun, dol sot bimbim bap, kalbi, and sometimes we get sushi. First time coming here and it was okay. Not bad for Korean food, but I could get better from somewhere else. Service was fast for lunch and there wasn't much people there. I had ordered the chicken bulgogi and that was semi sweet which I actually prefer. There wasn't any food left on the table or floors, except for my 1yr old baby throwing his food around. I gave it a 3 stars because one of the side dishes had a piece of hair in it and immediately it's a huge turn off for me. Server was cool about it and came back with another new dish. Was really excited that they started offering AYCE Korean BBQ. However given the price point of $45 not sure if it was worth it. While you do get a variety of BBQ meats, Korean cooked dishes, and sushi menu (more so than other BBQ/hot pot AYCE), the flavors and experience did not hit the mark. The variety of options just means you fill up on the less value dishes when you should be stuffing your face with the quality meats. It is a setup like an Ala carte dining so don't expect a buffet style table and there are no DIY sauce bar. The fan exhausts are not that great but if you pull down on the fan closer to the grill it will work better. Since this is an authentic owned Korean restaurant, their banchan were better than most other advertised Korean BBQ joints. read more

When this place first opened, we went and enjoyed it. The food and service were both good. We went a few more times after that for the Korean BBQ and AYCE. The last time my wife and I went there, the place was nearly empty--just one other person in the AYCE section and two tables doing Korean BBQ. We opted for AYCE, but despite the lack of customers, the service was painfully slow. It took about 20 minutes to get our food and had to keep asking for other food we ordered but didn't get. When it came time to pay, I noticed they automatically added an 18% tip to the bill--even though it was just the two of us. That was already frustrating given the slow service, but then I gave the cashier cash over the total, expecting to get change back. Instead, they just kept the entire amount and said "thank you," as if I had tipped on top of the already-included tip. I was stunned. Coworker lunch on a Friday brought me here. This was my first time at a Korean BBQ joint, so I didn't know what to expect. Nice location off Lexington with plenty of parking. Walking in, it looked clean and inviting even though you see overstock of supplies in the back hallways. It was a quiet 2:30 lunch, only 2 other parties in the restaurant with us. Service was fairly quick. For those who are new to this place, be aware that there is no silverware (forks). Either be competent with chop sticks (not me at all!), or you will end up eating meat with a giant soup spoon (this was me!) Small dishes were brought out after we ordered. I was told this is "bon chon". Kimchi, sliced sweet potato, broccoli.... and served cold. Then sauces for entrees, and my rice came out. Then about 10 mins later, all the entrees. See pics for what others ordered. Everyone's food was HOT except mine, which confused me. My rice was room temperature, not warm/hot. (Why was it sitting table-side 10 mins prior to entrees, cooling off?) I liked the sticky consistency but not the temperature. And my beef bulgogi came out on a wooden plate/cast iron skillet but was still just lukewarm. Not burn-your-fingers hot like Mexican fajitas. I was also expecting it to have more sweet soy sauce than it came with. I thought it would be glistening with moisture, but the beef was dry. It did have flavor but could have been so much more. Clean facilities. Fast service. The staff were very friendly and nice. We've been here twice already. I would recommend the large portion of KBBQ combo you're a group of 4. (This restaurant replaced where orchid used to be) I'm never put-off from a restaurant with a couple bad reviews, and I'm very glad I stopped in try! I ordered for takeout on a Thursday evening through grubhub, and my order was ready within 40min. When we got to the restaurant it looked empty from the outside, but it was quite busy on the inside (Might be a good idea to get rid of the dark tinted windows?). They looked a bit short staffed for having so many customers, so I didn't mind waiting a bit longer for my food. When I got the food, it smelled SO good. The tofu soup (eek spicier than anticipated), seafood pancake, and kimchi pancake were delicious and full of flavor. The rest of my family had never tried these dishes before, and they all thoroughly enjoyed it. We also ordered the donghae roll, caterpillar roll, and avocado roll. The sushi was fresh, and the donghae and caterpillar rolls were very unique and aesthetically pleasing! Also devoured quickly. The avocado roll was smaller and just avocado in rice and seaweed, which we didn't realize but probably could have figured out from the description. The kbbq part of the all you can eat was great. Food came out in a timely manner and had good flavor. The sushi part on the other hand was very disappointing. The cook was so slow and watched tv or kept walking away and was not getting the orders out in a timely manner. We were only able to order a couple items and literally sat there waiting for them for basically the whole meal. Got 2 rounds of kkbq ordered and cooked before even getting some of the sushi. Very disappointing when some of your group was only there for the sushi items. And on top of that they add a 18% gratuity on top of the hill when ordering all you can eat and you leave basically having to feed your kids again not to long after. We stopped in for lunch. I had Jampong, seafood noodle soup. It was a large bowl with a lot of noodles and seafood. It was not very spicy so I added a lot of chili flakes. It was spicy enough then but still lacked flavor. For the price it was not as good as it could be. We also had Dolsot Bibimbap. Again, the price was a little high and it should come out sizzling in a hot stone bowl. It was hot but not like it should be. Our server was good and the banchon was also good. I happened to be in the area, and this looked like the best of the suburban strip mall choices, but I was wrong. Not very busy for lunch and that should have been a warning for how bad it would be. Two servers busy helping a nearby table with a friend, giggling and carrying on over there, then miserably assisting everyone else with a frown. Everything from the condiments to the sauce comes from a jar. Teriyaki chicken was dried out, overcooked chicken with a salty canned sauce drizzled over the top. Overall I would give this place a 3.5/5 The staff were very attentive and helpful. I love that the AYCE option includes korean food as well as the classic ayce sushi menu. The best thing we ordered was the black bean noodles. The noodles were perfectly bouncy and it came out piping hot. Next time I'll definitely explore the korean menu more because I don't think the sushi was up to par. The rice didn't hold its shape so it was hard to eat and lacking in flavor. I also ordered 4 pieces of salmon sashimi and they were the smallest pieces I'd seen. The wasabi was not spicy which was a let down because I love wasabi. The side dishes were great though. Been eating at Dong Hae 2 every weekend for two years and had done both BBQ and normal serving. The food and service have always been consistently good. The price is normal for a restaurant of its caliber and the prices are listed clearly. The free appetizers are delicious and change, so there is always something new! Paying to cook my own food at a restaurant, is a little oxymoronic to me. But spouse and daughter wanted to try it and my curiosity frequently gets the best of me. I ordered the sizzling bowl and I let the family have at the grill. They had a blast while I ate more of my bowl than I thought I would. The presentation, in a hot stone bowl, was fun. Two disappointments. The egg was not sunny side up as described, thus the yolk, well there was not any yolk to spread. It was closer to hard cooked. Great for the liability insurance, not so tasty. Also, the vegetables were scant. A lot of rice. I like rice. I avoid meals that are mostly rice. I don't need a Budda belly, unless it comes with a main course of enlightenment. Meantime, my family is having a great time trying to figure out how to cook the veggies and meat as they tossed everything on the grill. Ok second time here and something has changed!!!! It's really understaffed or the kitchen is incompetent. The night we were there people all around us and including ourselves got wrong orders and or missing orders. I could hear customers all night asking about when their food will be ready. Asking if someone can take their order and so forth. The waitress was heard apologizing all night to customers. Ok but here was my biggest issue. I will not order or recommend to anyone to get the sushi there. Korean dishes are excellent, when they are served timely. But that's another subject. Korean dishes in my opinion are excellent. My issue is with the sushi we were served. My son wanted sushi. He ordered and ate 3 rolls. Yes he did. Shortly after eating I noticed his face turning red. We dismissed it because the lighting isn't too bright in there. We when we got back to the hotel I saw that his face was really red. He also had red blotches all over his body. He started complaining of a bad throbbing headache also. Food poisoning was my first assumption. He has no known food allergies that we know of. He eats sushi all the time and loves it. But this seemed different. He had no stomach pains. No nausea and no excessive gas. In about 2 hours, all this redness went away. After going over every possible issue it could've been. The reaction he was having was similar to drinking alcohol. I know that sushi rice is made with Mirin. A rice vinegar which has small traces of alcohol in it. But it should boil off when mixing with hot rice. But what if they didn't use hot rice. Could there be enough alcohol left behind? I also found out that sometimes sake is used. So I'm theorizing that sake was used instead of Mirin or the preparation was the cause of his reaction. Since I didn't taste the sushi, I am only theorizing at this point. He was fine after, and we even ate sushi again a couple days later at the Mall of America. He is ok. So parents, if you order sushi from this place. Please taste it!!! My son is only 15 and this possibly was his first experience with alcohol. But regardless if I'm correct or not. We are not ordering sushi again for here. read more

My favorite KBBQ in the twin cities. It's very hard to find particular items that are good for Korean food here - we've tried 3 different KBBQ places and this one is the best so far - the meat is VERY good, the soups are good, and they offer fried mackerel - it is very satisfying if you are wanting KOREAN entrees. It is also comforting to see that each time I've been, there has been a group of older Koreans eating too. Coming from Cali and other places with larger Korean populations, we are often let down here by the Korean food lacking - but Dong Hae 2 has been satisfying us. The banchan is so-so - there are certain side dishes you always wish for (spinach, namul, radish kimchi or cucumber kimchi, potato salad) but understandable that no place would have every favorite dish on deck each time. The service is hit or miss, pending who is working and is the ONLY REASON THEY ARE GETTING 4 stars instead of 5. The meat was very bland. No marinades, very dry and no flavor. They need more options. There were no sauce options just what they provide for you. No salad bar no sauce bar. It's much more different experience. We did go for lunch so maybe this is why. The sushi was good I did not like how they had the menu set up as it doesn't explain what some of the items are or what you get with your meal. Just needs to be better. Moved to the neighborhood about two years ago, but in spite of loving Korean food I was put off by the number of poor reviews of this place. However, my husband and I were pleasantly surprised, the service was prompt and friendly. This is a copy/paste of my review of Dong Hae1 If you're looking for a dining experience that is a perfect storm of bad food, terrible service, and disrespectful behavior, Dong Hae Korean Grill and Sushi is the place for you. Despite making a reservation for nine people, we were met with rude and dismissive behavior from the manager from the moment we walked in the door. And things only got worse from there. Not only was the food sub par and overpriced, but the manager's behavior was downright appalling. At one point, he came to our table and asked us what we do for a living. When my wife mentioned that we clean restaurants for a living, the manager's smug face immediately turned to one of disdain and condescension. It was clear that he thought we didn't belong there, and he made no attempt to hide his contempt for us. Things only got worse when we questioned the surcharge of 4% and tax rate on our bill (11% for downtown vs 8% in Mpls). Instead of apologizing or trying to help us, the manager started berating me in front of my family. He insinuated that there was something wrong with me for even questioning the tax rate, and his behavior was completely unacceptable. I begged him to stop harassing me in front of my kids. My wife was teary. Overall, this was a terrible dining experience that we would not wish on anyone. The food was bad (the rice was dried and they did not give us many side dishes), the prices were too high, and the service was terrible. And the manager's disrespectful behavior was the final insult that made us feel unwelcome and unwanted. Two items from the Korean menu came out, which was shrimp tempura and mackerel. Missing our two Miso soups that should've came out well before those two items. Note that we ordered sushi and sashimi also that never came out before the COOKED food! A group of ten came in and ordered and their food came out like instantly. And here we are still waiting for the rest of our order. I mention this to the owners wife and all she says is sorry and leaves. Finally 15 min later the sushi comes out and it just looks like old fish and missing half of what we ordered. Then one miso soup comes out. I tell the server that brought it out and told him that I was here week before the late group that came in and that their getting their orders and we didn't even get half of ours. He goes she check on what we ordered and ten min later, brings one miso soup that wasn't brought before, but still missing out other orders. At this point I just gave up and didn't bother asking for anything cause I was just ready to get out. I sat there watching them just past attention the the tables that had the large groups vs tables that had only two. There servers were everywhere not knowing what tables ordered what, but only know what's ordered for the large tables. They were more concerned for the large tables cause that's where the money's at and with that 18%service charge the servers aren't dedicated to tables. They're all around. My total came to be a whopping 91 dollars for half our order and bad sushi and sashimi. Tokyo sushi has better service and better quality fish. This place seem to airways have new servers working. Saw this place a few times going to the froyo place near it, and decided to go in and try it for dinner. The place absolutely did not disappoint, the food was great, they had good options, and the service was as good as I could ask for. We got the all you can eat kbbq deal, and while it is a bit pricey at 45$, it seemed well worth it after we were already stuffed only an hour into our hour and thirty minute time limit. Next you are not allowed to bring the excess food home and you get charged an extra $10 pp because we didn't eat everything THEY brought out. So be prepared for being over charged Make sure to select your food and don't let them bring out anything you don't ask for as they intentionally bring too much to bill you $10 pp extra. As a person that regularly visits both this location and the first, I'm sad to say that today will be my last time to either of the locations. My husband and I started going to the main location and have become friendly with the waiters/waitresses there. We frequented the business so much that when we visit, they know us. However, as time passed and the more we visited the arden hills location, the service declined and today, we were told that they will not give us an order sheet for the all you can eat until we finished all the food in front of us. It was more of an insult. Being told that put an end to my attempts to come and go back to either locations. Good Korean food? Takeout quality wasn't great in previous tries so we went in person. Prices are kind of high so we only got the Mandu Gook (rice cake dumpling soup) and black bean noodles. They were tasty and big portions but I didn't see much of the pork that the menu said was supposed to be in the noodles. Prices? $15 per dish is the cheapest. Also, they charge a 4% surcharge for credit card purchases. I only saw this in small print on the receipt and not on the menu. Luckily I had cash. Service? Not super happy with it. Everyone was nice but not once did a server come to our table unless we asked them to. The half of the restaurant we had only had a few tables full. This restaurant is nothing like I've been to before. I ordered a rice dish with beef and eggs and veggies. The beef was tough, but the super hot bowl cooked the rice so that it was crunchy which added a bit of fun and flavor. We also got octopus, a spicy tuna roll, and a dragon roll. Each were fairly average for the price range to be honest. I liked the spicy tuna roll the most out of the three. Additionally the service was very meh.
