This restaurant is nothing like I've been to before. I ordered a rice dish with beef and eggs and veggies. The beef was tough, but the super hot bowl cooked the rice so that it was crunchy which added a bit of fun and flavor. We also got octopus, a spicy tuna roll, and a dragon roll. Each were fairly average for the price range to be honest. I liked the spicy tuna roll the most out of the three. Additionally the service was very meh. This is probably the best Korean bbq place in the twin cities. The side dishes are always good. And the meat is always tender. If you have not done korean bbq before it's pretty easy. You just grill stuff and cut it up with the scissors they give you. The sides are almost always served at room temp or cooler because the contrast in temperatures and textures create a different eating experience. So while dishes don't come out "burn your fingers hot" like fajita plates - they don't need to because that's not the point. Try this place. read more

When I get bad food I am always wondering if they even know they are serving bad food, especially since the server never asked, or wasn't even around to complain. I ordered the Korean short ribs ( Kalbi?). Had them before in a different restaurant so I perhaps had high expectations. Well, these ribs were so tough, I couldn't chew them. I am not Korean and have made these myself. You need to MARINATE the meat before you cook it, especially if you cook it to death. It's a shame to serve such food despite all the great recipes on line... But you need to care or simply take it off the menu. read more

It was one of those Fridays, first rainy day of fall. Worked late, took a nap, woke up slowly realizing I hadn't eaten a thing other than a protein bar. And a breakfast sandwich. 8:30 and Dong Hae 2 was open. I wanted take out but the presence of Korean grills made feel as though I ought stay. Being now comers to the idea, we ordered conservatively; marinated sirloin and scallops. To start dumplings and stuffed jalapeños. The food was amazingly flavorful. The pre-requisite foodie label does not apply here. My friend & I came on NY day. Our waitress (this young lady with short brown hair) was incredibly rude and dismissive. Clearly she has an issue with explaining things & made it seem like we were bothering her when we asked clarifying questions about the menu. Instead of her doing her job, she just told us to scan the QR code for the menu. Frustrated, I went and asked the hostess for clarity- literally the only one available. Turns out, we were misinformed by the waitress that Korean bbq was included in the acye (it's not). You either order meat to grill or opt for ayce. We ended up ordering Korean bbq since she took us to the section of the restaurant already. If you want ayce, you are on the other side of the restaurant. They do not accept tips but will add 18% gratuity for parties 5+ and if your order Korean bbq or ayce. They also will add a service charge of 4% to help the business due to covid. You can ask them to remove it. I do not recommend this place. Meats tasted old, the sides were very bland & they never come back to change your grill. They should! Go to Hoban in uptown. Stay away from this place! Other reviews must be people they know. Some food inedible and extremely overpriced! I had to spit the "noodles" out in a napkin because I knew I would vomit them up if I tried to swallow them whole. You couldn't chew them! They were like strands of silicone. We got the "all you can eat", no pricing to be seen, couldn't understand them to ask. We were given two sheets of paper with items to pick, no explanations of what anything was, and told if we didn't eat everything we would be charged $10 each. Now I see how they make their money, it's so disgusting that if it weren't for my husband choking it down we would've had to pay an extra $30. The bill came to $135 for three people for an inedible "all you can choke down". Plus several surcharges and an 18% tip added as a "surcharge", so my polite, shocked husband tipped on top. The food here, although not plentiful, was adequate and quite tasty. The service, however, was deplorable. Our young waiter must have had a date, as he was most anxious for us to pay the bill and get out. He asked us, while we still eating, if were ready for the bill. and, a few minutes later, asked again, and then a few minutes later yet again...even when he told him we would ask for it when we were ready, he asked yet again. Me and my wife used to love coming to their first location downtown and then this location when it opened up. We often ordered the all-you-can-eat option because it had a wide variety of sushi and Korean options. Recently they halved the number of Korean options from the all-you-can-eat and still have it at the same price. Also when ordering, you can't order your next order until you have finished your first order. This doesn't make sense because we use to do lots of small orders but place them while we were still eating to make sure we didn't order too much. Now we have to wait an extreme amount of time between orders. We will now just go to Kings which has a better selection and their food has more depth of flavor. I would not recommend either of the Dong hae locations. read more

Worst place ever with horrible service and unfriendly staff. They didn't bother to ask if we need anything. Our water wasn't even filled to the top of the cup they filled it to the middle halfway really? They even charged us for tip with is 18% when we wasn't even treated right. Wow what a rip off place. i would give zero if I could. the quality and service was just awful. this was the second time visiting here and the food tasted nothing like before. i am embarrassed that we brought our friends to here. just pure embarrassment. Nothing taste like korean food at all and none of the foods we ordered taste fresh. side dishes were just horrible. The server had no idea what he brought out. I understand that he doesn't have to know the ins and outs of the korean food but at least know what food he is holding in his hands. Been here a few times and service was never really good. A week ago, went with a couple family members. We did the buffet. I asked for just hot water as it was very cold outside and I was told they don't do hot water but I could order tea. I simply said I could not have yea and would like just a cup of hot water but was refused and was told they don't have hot water. I went on to ask, how do you make hot tea if you don't have hot water? The tea can't be pre made and warmed up in the microwave?? I was willing to pay for a cup of hot water, but never got it. Instead I got a cup of room temperature water. We also ordered sashimi which came after all the hot foods--how can something not being cook come way after your hot foods? Also, we were never asked if we needed anything else or wanted to order more since we did AYCE. Ordered the japche noodles--it was the first thing out, I took a bite of it and the noodles were still so stiff and hard. It was like chewing plastic and the sauce was way to sweet! We finally flag down someone and ordered some shrimp tempt and more sashimi. We never got the sashimi and just finally gave up and paid and left. This will be our last visit. read more

Fantastic food, authentic Korean dishes, and that's coming from an actual Korean! The staff was sort of short but I think it's because they're a family restaurant, and they were all very nice to us. Went there on mothers day...first time there....was about 1/2 full. We were promptly seated and asked if we wanted to do the KBBQ and we said yes....We were seated and waited for the menu to come from the waiter...Finally the waiter came over and asked us what we wanted to order? At that point our young daughter figured out you had to use your smart phone to scan a QR code and the menu popped up on the smart phone. It would have been nice if the waiter told us....We ordered the Seafood Large which was $120...not bad since the waiter said it served 3-4 people. We ordered some Sushi and a Korean appetizer. All total the bill came to around $220. The automatically add a 18% tip on...That's OK with me if the food was good...but the food was very average, tasteless sauces, 1 small bowl of rice and the Korean side dishes weren't even enough for 1 person....We started cooking the KBBQ and thought nothing about it until our daughter told us there was a time limit you could eat in the restaurant....We are fast eaters anyways but after 15 minutes a Korean waitress came over and started cooking our Seafood...Being it was a family outing I really didn't like the fact an employee was breathing down my neck just to hustle us out of the restaurant which wasn't crowded. Bottom line Way over priced.... 12 Shrimp and 1 Tube Squid and maybe 12 small scallops for $120...But the biggest negative is you drop $220 for 3 people at least let us eat at a leisurely pace....We never linger...maybe an hour tops...1 and out on this place read more
