I've been eating here and craving it often for 25 years straight now!! Best Chinese food buffet in the world and there is not even a close number 2 behind Dong's China Buffet!!! I'm well-traveled, both for pleasure, as well as for tons of jobs that required traveling out of state previously. So, I have tried loads of local Chinese food buffets all over the Midwest, the east coast, in the San Francisco metro area and down south... Yet none of them "anywhere" tops the flavor of the food at Dong's!!! Couldn't ask for more perfect tasting buffet food, especially referring to the butter shrimp and their General Tso's chicken. They have great service as well and make sure customers drinks are never empty. The place is always clean; all of the staff works hard (including the family that owns it), bathrooms are never dirty and basically literally everything here is excellent. I know five stars seems crazy for an American Chinese buffet but listen, I haven't been to an American Chinese buffet this good since I was a child; I am 37. Everything was hot and fresh. Crispy foods were crispy. All veggies still had a nice crisp to them and not mush (green beans, mushrooms, cabbage). Ididn't have a single item that I disliked. Salad bar was fresh and cold. And they had cornichon pickles on it! Those were delicious. I also noted how many people were there on a weekday afternoon around 2pm! Plenty of tables were sat. Service was on par with any other buffet. Drinks were refilled and plates cleared. Seats are comfy, floors are clean, and gloves/hand sanitizer is available at the buffet. read more

I've been here a few times and thought I had previously reviewed Dong's. They weren't crowded around noon on a Thursday. Therefore access to the buffet was easy. The dining rooms have very nice artwork on the walls. The presentation of all the various buffet items looked great. I chose their rice to start with and then opted for a spring roll instead of my usual egg roll preference. I selected the pepper steak and finished off my plate with a portion of fried fish. I thoroughly enjoyed the rice, fish, and spring roll. I liked them so much I went back for a second helping of each. The pepper steak was not to my liking, a bit tough and lukewarm. These selections were all I could find that appealed to my palate. The service here is something to see. Greetings, drink orders, drinks delivery are very prompt. But it is when folks are done and leave that the staff here descend on a table with a minimum of three employees. They have the table bussed, wiped down, and vacuumed within just a couple of minutes. I am writing from a vegetarian perspective. And as a vegetarian, I won't be back. The food almost all had meat added, even the dishes that most chinese buffets have as a veggie option. There were countless options, but all had meat. Even if I ate meat, I felt like it was overpriced. It was close to $20 for a dinner buffet...and I now know I should have ordered from the menu. Food was OK. Definitely not my favorite quality for a buffet. The fried food tasted like it sat a while. You may enjoy it more than I did. I heard many good things about this Chinese buffet so a friend and I made the hike to Mooresville. I suppose I was expecting bigger and more variety, but this place is basically a hole-in-the-wall with pretty sub-standard fare. We got there about 11:30 am and some of the food had not had time to warm up on the steam tables and was cold. The teriyaki chicken on a stick was awful - cold, tough, with NO flavor. The General Tso consisted of way-overcooked little hard pieces of breading with just a hint of chicken. The "baked swai" consisted of swai fillets swimming in WATER, and tasted watery and flavorless. The only truly edible thing I found was the garlic fried green beans. Also the baked creamed spinach with cheese on top was not bad. I didn't try anything else here. Not a lot of seafood dishes for lunch- and not sure if they add more for dinner-- but for the price ($28 for 2 including a soda) it was great! I had not been to Dong's for at least 12 years. I changed jobs and left the area. My return was merely me passing through memory lane on a lazy kinda of day. Nonetheless the restaurant is a full service buffet. Dong's specialized in the freshest ingredients and sensational flavors. None of this has been lost over time. I ordered the beef and mushroom and two shrimp egg rolls. ( my favorite from back in the day.) the portions are humongous! I shared my meal and still had leftovers for the next day. My dish consisted of equal parts beef and mushrooms with bean sprouts- so delicious. The egg rolls were good but not outstanding. Everything seemed fresh and well prepared when I visited recently. I am not an expert on Chinese buffets but this one was better that I expected. Nestled in a strip mall in Martinsville it has served this community for years. During my wife's absence to take care of a friend recovering from surgery I found it necessary to cook for my self. When I ran out of milk and Cheerios I decided that coffee for breakfast and an all you can eat buffet was in order. Dong's was close by and met the purpose. I'm not typically one to frequent buffets of any kind, but I was practically next door and hungry so I decided to pop in for a quick lunch. Dong's is pretty much what you'd expect from an American-centered Chinese buffet; simple atmosphere, typical Americanized Chinese dishes, soups, salad and dessert bars. The salad bar was above average compared to what I've seen at other Chinese buffets and they seem to do an excellent job of rotating out the dishes with fresh, hot replacements and the quality of the food was pretty decent. They were quite busy, so they seem to be pretty popular with the locals, but having lived in China and eaten authentic Chinese food, Americanized Chinese food isn't all that appealing to me. I don't really have anything bad to say about the place and if you happen to like Chinese buffets, then I'm sure you'll find this one to your liking. read more

Dongs has ALWAYS been a staple in Morgan county. Some of the best Chinese I have ever had besides in China town in Chicago & Massachusetts. Every time I go somewhere I compare it with Dongs. Food has always been fresh & service is always excellent. Only reason they received 4 stars & not 5 is that they are closed on Tuesdays. It seems like every time I want Chinese it's on a damn Tuesday. But I do understand that everyone needs a day off to reset. The inside hasn't changed much from when I was younger, but they always keep it clean. There is plenty of seating inside. My favorite thing is getting a to go box and filling it up. I made my first trip to this buffet after having lived in town for over six years and I will say that the food is pretty good, at least it's as good as the stuff you can buy prepackaged at the grocery (from the freezer section.) I was surprised at how large the dining area was and how many buffet lines (five in total) were available to choose from. But I found the staff a bit difficult to communicate with and maybe it's just a cultural thing, but they don't interact with the customers any more than the minimum. When I entered and let the hostess know I was by myself, I was directed to follow a server who showed me to a table. She provided my napkins, utensils, and asked my drink order. After bringing my drink, she then disappeared. I have been to restaurants that have buffets as an option, but also allow you to order from a menu. No menu here. I've also been to buffets where they charge you by the weight of your purchase. No scales here. And in almost every case, the server/hostess has directed me to help myself when ready or at least asked if I had any questions. I tried talking with the server and she thought I was asking her to get the food for me. Again, difficulty in communicating. So, I helped myself to one of the five buffet lines. I started with a salad. When I finished, I left my used plate on my table and grabbed another plate to try some Chinese foods, including the egg drop soup (help yourself to additional plates and bowls as needed.) By the time I got back to my table, my old plate was cleared. Yeah! What surprised me was that none of the other reviews have mentioned that there are quite a few American dishes to eat here: pizza slices, fish, chicken wings, Texas toast, and a separate line devoted to desserts. Who knew? It appears that you can continue going to get more food until you pop or decide you've had enough. All for under $10. Just amazes me how people think it's too expensive. Anyway, now that I know they have a wide variety of food options and that you help yourself whenever you are ready, I would probably have a better experience on a return trip. This place is awesome! Food is fresh. The fish was fresh...the salad bar fresh ...the fruit fresh! The service was fast would leave the table and like magic when we got back the plates were gone. I talked to the Manager who proudly stated that they have been open for over 35 years ....and no wonder. I like a place that has a Hamachi because that way the food is made fresh on the spot this place does not have one and doesn't need one. I had been researching a good Chinese buffet option and had read many good comments on Dong's. I convinced my family to head down to Mooresville and it is in the shopping area next to Kroger's. The price for lunch is a reasonable 8.99 and kids under 10 are 4.99. The seating area is large and it was busy but not too crowded on a Saturday afternoon when we went. There is an ample array of great items available which should please just about anyone. There is a full salad bar which looked great but I just wanted soup and got a bowl of hot and sour. Is was very warm but had lots of great ingredients in it and was good during the winter. Next I surveyed the options. I went for a crab Rangoon as good as I've had at other places and tasted quite fresh which is harder on the fried items as they can get soggy or stale. I saw them rotating items while I was there. The honey bbq rib was great really enjoyable. Also the chicken on the stick was flavorful and I wanted to be hungry to eat more but focused on trying more items. My favorite was shrimp in the white sauce with vegetables. The vegetables were great in this as was the shrimp. I also got some of the mushrooms and meat don't remember what meat it was but the mushrooms in this was excellent. I got some of the green beans too. They also have ice cream and some dessert items. I picked up two of the cream puffs. I was getting pretty full at this point. The service was very attentive with removal of dishes as well. Overall a great lunch.
