I ordered the corn beef and hash, it wasn't my favorite. It's really hard to nail a corn beef hash these days. Unfortunately, this one had a very odd taste to it. have been going here for brunch for almost 3 years now. My go to is the chicken fried steak and eggs but with a side of french fries. I love the gravy here so I get extra always. I like that you can add yourself to the wait list before getting there. There usually isn't a host so you might be standing up there to check in for a little but it's busy and I know how to be patient. Staff is always friendly & welcoming. I love the customer service. We walked in on a sunny Saturday, expecting a 20-30 minute wait and got seated in 10 minutes. The outdoor heaters were excellent touch because contrary to popular belief, it does rain in Sunny California. FOOD - Listen - their mimosas are perfect. The right amount of champagne and a hint of orange juice. I absolutely loved the waffle. The batter was not too sweet, had a hint of cinnamon or nutmeg, and was good to go. I will say I got to create my own stuffed hashbrowns. That is what sold me. I found a location that sells stuffed hashbrowns! I love it. My children received customized meals - it truly was a family experience. my youngest got to order his own slices of toast and fruit. My oldest grabbed their pancakes however; he wasn't a fan of their eggs. My spouse went for a good amount of protein. It was a nice environment to start our day. I appreciate the vibes and the comfort. The customer service was on point. I will give it to Don. His country kitchen had the right kind of southern hospitality. Oh my goodness...I am so happy to finally find a proper country breakfast restaurant that knows how to make a PROPER chicken fried steak in Southern California! Not only was the chicken fried steak properly tender and flavored, they were very generous with the gravy--this is important!!! However, I do have to say that the biscuits were not so enjoyable--very dry. I'm wondering if it was just old??? The delicious gravy couldn't even save it. And even when I asked for extra, extra crispy hash browns, they definitely were not. Oh well, at least the service was very good and very fast. Our server was so nice! They do have some outside seating, but not a whole lot. One downside is the parking. There are only a handful of parking spots. So, unless you're lucky, you'll have to find street parking. A true hidden gem It's a small looking building on the outside, with only four parking spaces. The food is really good! And the serving sizes were bigger than expected. Delicious food and a yummy variety juices for mimosas! I visited don's a few days ago for the first time for brunch with a girlfriend. I ordered the banana waffle with a side of crispy bacon and had the mimosa flight. The waffle was delicious and I loved the variety of juices that came with the mimosa flight. I wanted to like this place but I never even had the chance due to the chaotic and unorganized seating system. We added our name to the waitlist only to wait more than an hour and when we kindly asked about why there had been 5 parties sat before us (when we were second on the list) we got a rude and condescending response from the employee at the front desk. Don't recommend unless you want to wait in the hot parking lot with no response about how long you will be there. read more

We tried this location after having been to the Carlsbad location multiple times over the past few years. - Small parking lot in front of restaurant, more parking behind in Red & White parking lot. - Didn't offer the delicious crabmeat omelette that is offered in Carlsbad. Hugh disappointment. - Pancakes seems like they were reheated in microwave since the stuck together and were rubbery. - Sausage patties lacked flavor and we cold when served. My favorite is dons country hash browns , it's like a whole plate of hash browns with various ingredients that you can add, really knocked my socks off the first time I tried it. Don's Country Kitchen is right on the ol' famous 101 Pacific Coast Highway. A true local with the hospitality and tender loving care you would get having a bite at your grandma's house. It's no surprise to see a familiar face at Don's. They have quite the following. And the staff is up to the challenge of making sure they make you feel welcome and at home. When you first check in, if you can't get seated right away, they take your name, group size, and your phone number so they can send you a virtual waiting room text to let you know just about how long of a wait you have. And it'll text when you're tables up. On this particular day it was a 50 minute wait which we didn't mind at all since we're so close to the beach we took a walk down to the water and by the time we started back from our beach adventure we got the text. What's nice about Don's is that you can let them know you need a little extra time to get there through the text. But because of a terrible experience we had with a different place a few days prior, I wanted to call them and let them know we were about a 15 minute walk away. They said, "no problem, we'll see you soon!" Even if that meant they let parties ahead of us go, that's fine but they clearly communicated with us and put us at ease so we didn't have to run and rush back. When we did get there, they remembered my name and we were seated immediately! I got a Raspberry Lemonade to start. It was very refreshing after running along the beach. For breakfast I had the Bea's Stuffed Hashbrowns. It's so good! Imagine a Hashbrown sandwich with crispy, crumbled up bacon, Swiss cheese, and avocado inside. Then it's topped with two eggs, usually over easy but I like em over medium. Then enveloped in a creamy Hollandaise sauce. I just got hungry and full again just writing about it. Their homemade biscuits go great with the stuffed hashbrowns as well! So flaky, buttery, and melt in your mouth. It's like a pillow of carbs to lay your cheek upon. The staff is full of friendly faces and they are on top of it. They all look like they work together so well and are like a well oiled machine unit getting guests in and out while still maintaining a level head and a warm heart to every table they pass by.
