After hearing so many good things about Don's Downtown Diner in Bellefontaine, we finally made it in--and I'm glad we did! This super cute little diner is family-owned and operated, and from the moment we walked in, we felt right at home. We had the pleasure of meeting Tania and her granddaughter Maddy, who were both incredibly friendly and genuinely excited that we stopped by. The diner is absolutely oozing with personality. It feels like you're visiting family... if family charged you for a great hamburger! I ordered the Body Bearded Burger, a smash burger topped with your choice of cheese, crispy bacon, peanut butter, and the option to add jelly for just 99 cents. They offer grape or strawberry jelly, and of course I had to try it. All burgers come with fresh-cut fries, though you can upgrade to onion rings for a small additional charge. The burger was outstanding. Cooked perfectly on the griddle and served on a nicely toasted bun, every bite was packed with flavor. The peanut butter added a rich, nutty taste, the bacon brought a salty crunch, and the jelly added just the right touch of sweetness. It sounds like an unusual combination, but trust me--it works incredibly well. The fresh-cut fries were a great side, and the whole meal felt like classic diner comfort food done right. If you're anywhere near Bellefontaine, do yourself a favor and stop by Don's Downtown Diner. Stopped here today for lunch. We had tried two times in the past but they were closed both times. We were hoping the 3rd time was a charm and it was! This was a cute family owned restaurant. We met the owner Tanya and her granddaughter Maddie. Both were super nice and told us a lot about the customers, the history of the place and the food everyone loves! We came for their fresh local meat hamburgers. I got the portobello burger. It had swiss cheese, fried portobello mushrooms, and horseradish sauce. I opted to not get the horseradish sauce. The burger came with handcut fries that were hot and fresh. The burger was hot and tasted very good. This is a very family friendly place that serves good home cooked food. I highly recommend coming here and make sure you talk to Tanya. She is super friendly! You will really like her and the food is GOOD!! Take a walk downtown after you eat. Who would have thought? I understood when I went that I was going to try their famous BBQ Bacon cheeseburger. The standard is a 1/2 # patty, but there was no way. We got the 1/4 # burger and their big accompaniment of fries. Good fries! Perfect fries! Back to the burger - fully dressed. You could tell that even the pickle is specific to that burger. I want to locate their bacon - really great, real-deal hickory smoked and crisp. And Don's own BBQ sauce is great. The burger is smashed and perfectly griddled. Everything is so good here! Got the bacon blue burger and it tastes amazing just the right amount of bacon and blue cheese. Yum!!! If you're in the area you have to stop in for a bite! Not familiar with the area but ran into this diner. You can tell they have a lot of regulars and have been around for a while. Very fast service! We sat at the bar and could hear all of the food being cooked right in front of us. Great prices, and they even have a food challenge for $65! Very nice diner. My burger was excellent. It was big and a bit sloppy, too much to finish in one sitting. Adding an egg was a welcome option. The bacon on my burger was nice, but not quite as crispy as it probably should be. I'm sure next time if I ask for my bacon to be crispy, they'll oblige. Test tasted the homemade bbq sauce that my brother was using as a dipping sauce and it was awesome -- obviously homemade with a nice bit of molasses in it. Although none at our table ordered the rack of ribs, I saw a serving at the next table and it looked phenomenal. If in Bellefontaine, definitely check it out. This is more of a classic food diner that features burgers of all types. The portions are humongous!!!! I promise you will leave with food to go! I tried the Rueben (my fav) and the onion rings. My onion rings were massive, maybe the biggest I've had In the state of Ohio. Had a great crunch to them. My Rueben was just great and was grilled to perfection. ( my only suggestions is that I would like more sour kraut on it) lots of meat and killer rye bread still put it over the top! Dons diner has very limited seating and can get crowded. Don's is a pretty well known burger joint in Bellefontaine. They even have a challenge burger that can only be ordered if you are doing the challenge. $60. If you win, eat the burger and fries in under an hour, then you don't pay for the meal. From what I have seen, you better bring an appetite if you plan on attempting this monstrous feat. Tonight I had the BBQ bacon cheddar burger. It was a pretty good burger. They have good shakes too. This is a nice little old fashion diner. Definitely worth a stop in. What a great little place! 1st things 1st: Do not try the peanut butter and chocolate milkshake, I'm pretty sure it has crack in it - freakin' yum! Cheeseburger = yum; His patty melt = yum. We ordered 2 -1/4 lb cheeseburgers, and spit fries (not my idea, hubby trying to cut calories). Quick service, cooked to order, hot, and perfectly amazing, greasy to perfection. Fries, fresh and crispy with soft inside. Best burger I have had in a very long time, husband agreed ( perfect amount of fries to share). Don't miss this diner, a must go to!
