We have a 2002 Ford T bird that wouldn't start. We called Dons and asked if they would fix it. We live in Lake Arrowhead and by the time the tow truck came to get the car and was brought up there they called in ten minutes and said we needed a new motor at 9,000 dollars. Our car only has 38,000 miles on it. There was no way they could have even had time to look at it. We had it towed back home. Well I am so grateful that I didn't listen to them because we just had it fixed and all it was was the fuel pumps. They caused a lot of heartache and I would never recommend them even to my worst enemy. read more

I literally just walked through the door after Adam dropped me off. I rarely write reviews, but was so impressed, I wanted to do so right away. I was at a restaurant in Running springs and my truck wouldn't start. I called AAA, who contacted Dons. Adam arrived about an hour later and tried jumping the truck. It wouldn't turn over, so we towed/dropped off at a local repair shop and he drove me home. He was so polite and personable, we had great conversation and I am really grateful that he melted away the stress I was experiencing and I'm at home safe. Thanks Adam! read more

This place overcharges people and depending on the situation, there isn't anything you can do about it. CHP towed my vehicle. I called on the day I was going to pick it up and asked for the total cost. The person I spoke with said $350. $300 for the tow and $50 for 1 day. They ended up charging $420. I called and asked what happened. The guy said that I must've misheard them. It's $60 a day, not $50. Me -- ok fine. So, you had the car one day. They picked it up around 11A on Wed, it was out by 12:15P on Thur. He said because it's 2 days they charged the extra $60. This is not consistent with what I was told by phone. I have given this shop a fair amount of business over the years and will not be going back. read more

I am unsure of the service, but a driver was driving down Green Valley Lake Rd and came to a blind corner going about 45 in a 25 mph zone. Most people drive approx 15- 20 mph around the lake to watch out for the ducks and ducklings in the road as well as the people out walking their dogs. Tell your employees to slow down! read more

I was forced to use this company in regards to a tow by AAA. They did not contact me to let me know they couldn't keep their word that they would be here in a couple of hours. Owner blew it off to AAA saying he told them he couldn't do it, but didn't bother to contact me. 3 hours later, im still waiting. Why is AAA using them. They didn't show when I had a flat and no spare last month due to a pothole. Do not use these people, shady and you will be stuck. They don't care. read more

The absolute worst. Why can't I give them zero stars? I don't think these people are even in business. They literally NEVER show up for a tow. For some reason Triple A uses them as a vendor and they NEVER respond. I'm waiting on them now and the time estimate is THREE HOURS. They are 10 minutes from me. I'm trying to get a different vendor. When I've needed them in the winter not through Triple A, he says he's too busy. I've been complaining through Auto Club for them to stop using them. Horrible business. Why can't we leave ZERO for a rating? I've never had a worse experience with any AAA responder in my entire life. I called at noon to have my tire changed. There's a nail in that tire. Three hours later, a driver from Don's Garage in Running Springs shows up on my property. He never called. He never knocked. I had no idea he was here. I saw his truck *leaving* and I tried to call out to him but he bolted. When I called AAA back, the dispatcher ~ from IOWA! ~ said, "He put air in your tire. He had another call." AIR IN A TIRE THAT HAS A NAIL IN IT!?? That's utterly absurd! I needed that tire changed! Obviously! Don's Garage will tell you that they DID call but guess what? That never happened! As a widow, I'm now forced to rely on others where once my husband did these tasks. I chose AAA for roadside assistance. They chose Don's Garage. Big mistake. If you think this AAA garage has your emergency needs in mind, think again. I don't know who raised these people to behave so outrageously, but I'd be mortified to think I'd raised a child who had so little respect for his customers as to leave a woman stranded for hours on end. In our family, we have core values ~ and that means doing your best. Somewhere along the line, this company succumbed to something worse than mediocrity ~ abject disdain for customers. Shame on this company for their cavalier attitude! Shame on Don's Garage for PRETENDING to be reliable. Absolutely pathetic! NOTE: AAA finally sent out Mountain Towing and guess what? Called AAA and they sent this company. Our car broke down and we needed to be towed to Corona. He picks up my car, drives me down the hill and drops my car off halfway to home. They stated that another tow truck was on the way. I called AAA and they said they knew nothing about it and would have to look into this. I guess the tow truck driver wasn't feeling well. He seemed fine while he was out talking with me. Also passed two of his other trucks that were empty. Why not have one of them take us. Horrible customer service. NEVER use them. AAA said they will look at the contract with them because they left my family on the side of the road with kids just sitting here waiting. Adding an additional note. When the tow truck finally showed up so did another Dons Towing truck dropping off another family. They told them the same thing that another tow truck was coming for them and this family also had two small children with them. After talking with another tow company, they stated that Dons does this all the time to get people out of there service area and they just drop them off. read more

My clutch ran out of fluid right after I had made a commute from Orange County back up the mountain. I got home, then was on my way to Big Bear, when bam! The clutch stopped working. I don't have AAA Roadside assistance right now, so a tow from Don's Auto was $65 (usually $75) even though they towed me a half mile. That was lame. Only $45 to refill the clutch fluid, and the owner himself rung me up. Again, I am super happy to have such conveniences in my little mountain town (being that I am originally an LA woman used to every convenience at my finger tips). read more

Well I sure experienced an interesting morning when my car did not start today. We were enjoying brunch at the Bus Stop when my car wouldn't start. We knew it wasn't the battery, gas or oil so we had the local shop check it out. Thankfully they were located less than a mile from where we were... Long story short, we ended up getting the car towed to Riverside to have the Lexus dealership check it out. I was told the fuel pump was damaged and I needed to hit up a dealer for them to replace it. An hour or so later and $275 down the drain we arrive in Riverside. The driver was kind and got us there in no time. Within minutes Lexus service reps. asked me to follow them to my car and asked,"What seems to be the problem?" "Your car started just fine." Stumped, I let out a shriek and a little sigh of relief. The fuel pump was fine, the issue was my computerized key. My car key was in 3 separate pieces (my spare too) and the alarm section had popped out and I had placed it on the console. Well apparently I needed it closer to the actual key to start the car. Damn anti-theft. Bought a spare key for $86 and that was a deal. No joke. Problem solved and I was on my way back home. The only thing that kept my friend and I sane were the redickulous memories from our weekend up in Big Bear. read more

Took two cars there. One had no oil going to upper engine. They pulled the oil pan off disassembled the steering, charged me 600 bucks, put all the parts in the trunk and towed it back. Second car they charged 12 hours to diagnose problem, sent it down the hill to put the wrong cataleptic converter on, charged me 2k, the next day it broke down again, towed it back and had to pay for a new timing chain. Wouldn't trust them to polish my rims let alone work on my car read more

I broke a serpentine belt on my Chevy truck. Don's crew took care of me right away. After checking all the pulleys to make sure it wasn't a more serious issue, they determined it was just the belt. While off-Roading our a-arms came loose and made our tires super cambered which makes driving very dangerous. After we went to another auto shop in big bear who blew us off we called Don's on a Saturday at 4:45pm. Bill was amazing and said to come on by and would see what they could do for us. I gotta tell ya, Dons Garage got me out of tough jam with a vehicle (Yukon XL) where the battery went completely out and as a result the car would not start even with a jump. The fuel pump was out as well but we did not know that during the jump. The driver, Johnny, was excellent and very cautious with the flat bed tow vehicle on very rough road (unpaved and icy in spots. We did a little manual grading to level the road and threw rock salt on the one icy spot and were successful getting the vehicle out despite the rough environment. At the garage, they diagnosed a dead battery and failed fuel pump and 1 pm and I drove away at 5 pm. Kudos to their excellent driver - Johnny who went the extra mile! read more

I have been going to Dons Auto for about twenty years, these guys always do a great job and will be truthful and honest with you, I had them tell me either not to worry about something I thought needed repairing and to wait and see, or they have suggested something else which I had not thought of. They have always had time for me no matter how busy and have always treated kindly and fairly. These are great upfront guys in whom you can trust. There prices on parts are comparable, if not cheaper than any other major repair shop. They also do tires, which is a real deal for me! Don's AAA certified is one the best locations for Help in any situation. They put a new transfer case in my 1992 Ford Explorer XLT in around in 1995. I got another 240,000 miles out it. Yesterday they changed oil on my 2016 Ford Escape Titanium, so not to lose warranty. Moved here in 1989 and have always been treated well and the best they do. My ex just had full oil change for 2003 Toyota Tacoma, That has 401,200 miles on it. They have been the only Shop that I trust other than Ford Service Dept. Have to wait till September 21st at one pm. They got me in the next day. Hope they are able to work on my 1990 John Deere 36 inch snowblower. I've had it chained to my first home in Running Springs CA 92382 for the last 17 years. But did run it For Winter 2016-17 in January 17th 2017. The streets had seven foot verticals of snow. I'm sure they can handle something like a 10-12 hourse power 2 stroke engine. They say no winter this year, yeah right ( that means that they are unable to say for sure) I've seen it snow, hail, 12 out of 12 months out of the year, July 1989. end. read more

We went up to our cabin in Running Springs last week. When we got to our cabin, we could not park in our drive way because there was a truck parked there. Because of the snow, we had no where else to park, and so had to park on the street, which was very dangerous. We found out that the truck belonged to our neighbors. When we asked them why it was in our drive way, they told us that Don's garage towed it and left it there. We found out that it had been sitting there for over a week. We called Don to find out what was going on, and to have him move the truck. He told us that , yes he left the truck there because he was told to do so by the truck owners, and that was the widest place to park it. We asked him if he knew that this was a private driveway, and did not belong to the truck owners. He said Yes, he knew the trucks owners did not live there, but it was the best place to park it. Again, he Knew that he was placing a disabled truck in someone else's drive way.We asked him why he didnt just take the truck back to his garage since there was No safe place to park it. He had no response to this question. He just repeated, it was the widest place to put it,even though he was putting it on Private property. He then said, "But I understand you are part time residence on the mountain" As if this should make any difference at all.We let him know we were Not part timers and that had no bearing on what he did. He knew he was blocking a private driveway, and yet still dumped off the truck. We told him to come and get it out of our drive way, and he refused. Saying , it was too hard because of snow to get a flat bed tow truck on our street. We said, we did not care how he did it , but we wanted the truck moved because we had no where to park. We had to get the police involved, and then we called AAA to report Don. Triple A did agree that Don should Not have dumped the truck on someone elses property, and they registered our complaints. Any company that would knowingly dump a vehicle on someone else's property is a Horrible company. If we should ever need AAA in the mountains, we have already informed AAA that we would NOT allow Don to handle the call. He is untruthful, and not trustworthy. read more
