Being new to Louisiana I'm greatful to have run across this restaurant. RIDICULOUSLY GOOD MENU!

I recently went to Don's for the first time and I could not have been more pleased. Everything about the restaurant was above par. I had Jacked Up Shrimp and catfish Acadian and they were delicious. What I was most impressed with was the service. I made sure to ask our waitress's name (Samantha) so I could ask for her again! She was outstanding. I don't think my drink ever went below half full! I felt taken care of and she happily got me anything I asked for. I can definitely see myself becoming a regular there. read more

We have eaten at Don's many times. We have had the pleasure of having Leonard as our waiter several times. We had done an awesome job each time. If there is one complaint I have it isn't about the facilities or employees, it would be the etouffee.. it is not good. We live in Louisiana and it should have a lot more flavor and spice. At Don's it is like eating tomato sauce. It needs more seasoning. Same as the bisque. Spice it up some. Other than that it is our go to place for family outings or just me and my husband. read more

I have been to this restaurant over a dozen times and have different reviews each time that I come. Sometimes I order seafood plate and the fried oysters are amazing and then other times ehhh. The etouffee also changes each time I order it, having the same feeling as the oysters. I will say, when I order the jacked up oysters at the bar while having a few beers, they always have been outstanding. Consistency here is a rare thing. read more

Food would have been better if the waitress was more attentive. By the time our food arrived, it was lukewarm and the coleslaw was hot. It took her 15 minutes to get us to go boxes and another 10 for the check. read more

It all started when the waitress wasn't sure about items on the menu. I asked about the grilled stuffed shrimp... she didn't know anything about them but said that either 5 or 6 came with the dish. When the order came, there were 4 small shrimp, the loaded potato was half of a potato with cheese on top, and the green beans were literally two tablespoons of beans in a tiny dish. The food tasted good, but for $20 (including tax and tip) for lunch, I would like to walk away full. When I first walked into Don's Seafood last Saturday Night I couldn't help but be wowed. The atmosphere blows me away, the smells envelope me and I feel like I'm home. While on vacation, we were told to eat here by a local for local tasting food. Amazing authentic tasting cajun food. Staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes and area. Our waitress gave us sites to visit in the area and even wrote them down as not for us to forget. Wonderful place to stop. read more

Just had Don's on Mardi Gras, and I realized why we don't go very often....it is expensive for the portion size. The seafood platter at $24 was small. The seafood spinach dip appetizer tasted very commercial, as did the ettouffe. We had to ask the waitress for everything...napkins, silverware, etc. There are way too many options out there to waste my time and money on Don's. read more

Disappointed at our visit. Traveling home to Tennessee from New Orleans and decided to stop here with my family. Ordered food and and it took a long time to get our food to table. Waitress got my order wrong. And when we did get our food, it was all cold. Ordered the gumbo and it was too salty. Would not recommend this place. read more

Had a horrible experience today. We had a sleeping toddler on my shoulder and requested a booth. We were fine having to wait a few extra minutes. About 10 minutes passes and a different hostess called our name and attempted to seat us at a high top. We declined for obvious reasons. We were finally seated without silverware. We ordered our appetizer, a dozen charbroiled oysters and 2lbs of crawfish. The oysters came out with no cocktail forks, still no silverware and no bread. We had to ask for the menus to be removed to make room for the platters. Our crawfish followed, still no silverware. A few minutes into our crawfish silverware shows up by this time our oysters are cold. We were then told our entrees would be out in a few moments. 10 minutes later our server, Anders comes by to tell us our food is cooked but they are waiting on fresh gumbo to send it out and it would be a few more minutes. We requested the food that was ready immediately and the gumbo when it ready. About 10 more minutes and our order came it was slightly warm and the gumbo tasted like improperly cooked instant roux mix. I sent the gumbo back as it tasted burnt. No manager came to the table or seemed to be present. Our water glasses were never refilled nor were we offered to order another drink. Overall poor service + poor food= bad experience. this was the only place i could find that would be open at 10 pm. what a great find! there was music and tvs all around which gives you a very social atmospher. the special on monday is $0.25 oysters and tuesday is $1.99 crawfish. i came on both days! i ordered the boiled shrimp, dz oysters and green salad and on the second day got the shrimp, crawfish and oysters. all were super tasty and would eat there everyday if i could! read more

I'm here on my. B-Day vacation the service was excellent and there was no wait time to be seated. I do recommend the Cajun ice tea(alcoholic drink) I had gotten the seafood platter everything was great not spicy but the fries did taste stall like they been sitting there awhile. My family and I went to Don's in Hammond on New Year's Eve. We had reservations for 17 people for a private room. Reservations were made three weeks before and subsequent phone calls to both Brandon and Jordan, restaurant managers, confirmed that everything was set. We were delighted to know that we were getting a private room. Unfortunately, when we arrived, not only was there at least a 20 minute wait, but the private room that we were promised was given to another group of guests. Staff at front desk offered no explanation other than to tell us that someone else was in the room. When I asked to speak to either Brandon or Jordan, I was told that neither was there. Once we were seated, we were very fortunate to have a great waitress. Her name was Jenna. She heard what happened to us and quickly made up for how we were treated. Not only did she offer helpful suggestions when ordering, but our orders were correct, and she made sure that we got everything promptly. She also spoke to someone in charge about providing our group with complimentary appetizers, which was a very kind, unexpected gesture. This was appreciated immensely. We still, however, cannot figure out how the staff at the front desk totally ignored our reservations, and simply gave away the private room we were promised. A complaint has been filed with the establishment. read more

We stopped here on our way to Texas. Food was okay. We had lunch and very small portions. I left still hungry. Overpriced for the amount/quality of food you get, but the food had a good taste. I think there are much better Cajun places that aren't chains I would try out instead. read more

Highly recommend. Fried shrimp well-flavored and shrimp etouffee outstanding! Smoked oysters are excellent as well.

I have eaten here many times before. I love the half off oysters on Monday. I probably wouldn't eat here if it wasn't for the specials because I think the place is way over priced for what you get, but the food has always been really good. We were on our way home and just passing through Hammond. We found Don's Seafood on Yelp and decided to stop and eat. It was delightful and delicious. The baked shrimp dish was soooooooo delicious. Service was excellent! So very friendly! A bit warm in the corner with all the glass, but it was extremely hot outside so that is understandable. Thanks for a wonderful dining experience. read more

Went for the all you can eat boiled shrimp. Took forever for the first batch to come after the salad. Guess they were waiting for us to fill up. Took forever for the second batch. The shrimp had a very good flavor but very hard to peel. read more

We have been going to Dons for years, but Hammond is the best This location is under new management and they have really freshened the place up. The hostesses are really sweet, the food was delicious and the beer was 2 for 1....lol. Our bartender was Elyssa and she is the Awesome!! It took 30 mins for our food to arrive. The waiter told us that some how our ticket got pushed back. We asked to speak to the manager (Jacob Allen). He told us that 30 mins was not bad and "what did we expect, it was a lent?" The food was good but the service was horrible. Wow. $10.50 for Jim Beam?! This place has lost its mind. You aren't on the south shore. Your seafood is not that good to cost over $80 for one appetizer, one entree , and two drinks! I used to go here all the time. Guess what? I'll make the trip to Chimes for now on. I'm sincerely disappointed in this place. The food was pretty good; but it could have been better if it was hotter. The service was not friendly at all; and it was very very slow. It took 40 minutes to get just our appetizer, which was Fried Crab Claws. Then after we saw two other tables, that arrived 40 minutes after us, were getting their food, we had to ask where our food was; after an hour. Our waitress seem to disappear, we never could find her. But, I guess she was too busy with the waiter that gave her the erotic massage, which I had to look at while I was waiting for my food!!! We arrived at Don's around 2:15 pm; and there were only a few tables with people. I would hate to see how long it would take, if it was crowed. Poor and rude Management. I was very disappointed in my meal at Don's. I wanted to eat at Don's before going back to the Northeast. It was my favorite restaurant as a child growing up in Baton Rouge and also enjoyed the Hammond location. To my dismay the portion size has dramatically reduced still with a hefty price tag. The quality also seems to have diminished significantly. I had the Crab dinner. The gumbo barely had any crab to speak of in it. The Jacked up crab was really tasty but a very small sample. The crabmeat augratin was runny and I even inquired to my server about the texture and he stated that is how it is suppose to be. I don't remember it being so runny with little amount of crabmeat. Why even put spinach crabmeat dip on the plate? I was surprised also by the size of the plate. Making the plate smaller does not fool the customer on the amount of food being served. My friend ordered her meal after I ordered mine by 10 minutes and I waited at least 15 - 20 minutes after she was served. This was my last meal and was so disappointed before going home. Plus! You no longer put hushpuppies on the plate! It is an extra charge! read more

I was very disappointed when they started charging for the hush puppies that used to be complimentary. Then, EVERY time I've been, my steak has been so spicy, I had to send it back to the kitchen. I asked them not to season my steak except for salt and pepper but no one listened. Then, I miss my baked potato. The scoop of potatoes they serve reminds me of high school. Haven't been back and probably won't be back. Sad, cause I really enjoyed going there for lunch after Sunday church. read more
