My go-to taco spot in Richmond! Their carnitas tacos are my absolute favorite - so juicy and flavorful! I recommend trying both the American and Traditional style tacos with the same protein if you're visiting for the first time to see which you prefer; I've found that the Traditional v American styles have slightly different flavors when you match them with chicken n v shredded beef v carnitas v shrimp etc. They do make you pay for each round of chips and salsa that you order, which I simultaneously love and hate - love because it prevents me from gorging myself with bottomless chips/salsa and hate because, well, I always want bottomless chips/salsa. The new building is super spacious with plenty of room even on the busiest night. They have an awesome happy hour and specials on different nights with Sunday karaoke!! Finally after 10 minutes of being ignored, I went over to the station, and a young guy told me that if I already had a tab open at the bar that I couldn't order food from a table,, that I had to order from the bar. Ok fine., the bartender who already had an attitude with us anyway told my friend that she couldn't order from the bar .. only if we were sitting at the hi tops by the pool tables, which were all taken. So I asked one of the servers "can't we just open a separate tab? @ First she said no but finally agreed when I persisted so we opened a tab and ordered. After discussing with my friend, abd noting the looks from the staff, we decided just to say the hell with it and leave so I saw the server and asked her to make the order to go. I asked the bartender for my bar tab and to cancel the pool reservation and told him that we were leaving because the atmosphere was unwelcoming. Picked up lunch with my coworker here about two weeks ago! We were craving tacos, had a STRESSFUL AF week being short so many coworkers, and needed a pick me up. Ordering online was super easy -- the most difficult part was choosing who was going to give the other cash, and who was going to pay with their card. I ended up paying her cash, but in exchange I drove us. Super easy once you get there. Since there aren't people dining inside, the spaces in front of the restaurant are generally free. All you had to do was give them a call, let them know you were there, and then wait for them to bring your bag(s) of food out. They even set up a little barricade by the door so people couldn't get in. Tofu tacos were different from what I remember -- I think it was seasoned more, not fried. I enjoyed my visit to Don't Look Back. For how rough it looks on the outside, the inside is surprisingly large and bright. I like the simple decor and that it's separated into half restaurant and bar and half table games ($10/hour and discounted during happy hour) and lounge seating. Even though there's no physical divider between the two spaces, it is separated enough that you're not intruding on anyone's meal or playing time, depending on which side you choose. I came with a friend for dinner and drinks. I was disappointed that happy hour only runs until 6pm, because that eliminates the opportunity for those of us who don't leave work at 5:00 on the dot. We both got house margaritas and shared an order of chips and salsa. The margaritas were small, but very good. Not too sweet, the right amount of tequila, and refreshing. The chips were fine but the salsa was bland. I ordered three corn tacos, carnitas, chorizo, and shrimp, traditional style for my meal. The carnitas and chorizo were very spicy and not amazing, but still good. The shrimp was my favorite. It also had a kick to it but was not overwhelming, and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Don't Look Back is an excellent bar for multiple reasons. Reason one: Excellent food. There are no bad combinations on the tacos. I love Traditional Style with Fish or Carnitas, on flour. Reserve a pool table, it's super easy and a ton of fun. Outdoor patio is easily forgotten but an added bonus. The bar staff is always attentive and friendly. Ordered from here tonight and I will probably not do so again. We placed our order at 7:30 with a pickup time listed of 7:59. When we arrived, we were told our food would be out in 10 minutes. 45 minutes later our food was finally ready and by the time we got home with the food, the tacos were lukewarm at best. To set the scene, I woke up Monday morning at 5:00 AM knowing it would be a busy week at the office. I knew I needed something more to get me through it than the prospect of a cold beer and a long cry at the end of each day. That is when the idea struck me, why don't I organize a happy hour for myself and my co-workers? Looking past the obvious reasons (their general disdain for me, my insecurity that I would arrange this and no one would show up) I decided to go for it. I had a set of criteria that I needed met to help choose the venue: - I needed a place that had a full bar to accommodate our gluten free members of the team, and people who drink not for the taste, but to forget their lives. This meant that breweries were out. - I needed a place that had activities so I wouldn't be forced to sit there uncomfortably when the talk inevitably died down putting me in a place where I needed to brain storm any discussion topic other than our default conversation (their cats). Don't Look Back has TVs, pool tables, and shuffleboard. - I needed a place with food so that way I can avoid talking to my co-workers by constantly taking bites of different food and acting like I couldn't talk because my mouth was full. Don't Look Back has a full and delicious menu. Don't Look back was the obvious choice. When arriving I first noted that they only offered on-street parking. For someone like me who is known braggart and show-off I enjoy parallel parking in front of a crowd. This did prove an issue for some of my other compatriots. When walking in they had a lounge area in addition to regular seating. With our large group we were able to commandeer that seating area, though we did still have to trek to the bar to order food and drinks. The drinks were hit or miss, some drinks being strong enough that a spark would light the place up, and some being sweet enough that I wish it came with an insulin chaser. There was a decent beer selection and there was also a happy hour special which discounted margaritas as well as some of the other drinks. I also ordered food and the tacos were very very good. I really appreciate how they have an option to order them "Traditional" (cilantro, red onion & lime) or "Gringo" (cheese, lettuce, sour cream & salsa). I of course ordered "Traditional" because I have a reputation to uphold amongst them as a taste setter and I feel as though they would think less of me had they seen me eating my tacos with cheese like some toddler whose parents were too exhausted to cook a full meal. Overall the tacos had a great flavor to them, were nice and juicy and came out quickly. We made a good choice in going to Don't Look Back. It is a great option for both large parties and smaller groups. I would definitely recommend it. read more

I came during the lunch hour on a Friday and had no troubles finding parking or grabbing a seat at the bar. I can tell by the layout of this place that it must get pretty packed at night, especially being in Scott's Addition. The prices are very fair, ranging between $3-4 per taco. The bar has a variety of options available, though I would encourage them to carry Bold Rock Cider Otherwise, it's a pretty cool space & the tacos are delightful. The ambiance of this place is very cute. It seems like everyone's just there to enjoy some good food and have a good time. They have a decent selection of beers and wine to pair with your meal. I opted into having a mimosa. It was a good mixture, you know not completely engulfed in juice. The seating placement and the pool tables are easy flowing and allow the place to feel open. Second times a charm right. Lol. Well this place is definitely on my list for a few more meals. So far I've knocked down four of the taco options they have available. The meat selections are savory and tender ESPECIALLY the Carnitas which happens to be my personal fave . There's just something about the crisp from the grill . Yum. *Spice Alert* The chorizo falls in my top two and being that I'm not particularly a spicy food person I will say I'm sure it simmered the top layer of my throat on the way down. Some guy working late night at the taco spot and pool table que was the biggest Ass hole I have ever met in the restaurant industry...and that's saying a lot bc I've worked in the industry for 7+ years. My friend and I signed our selves up for a pool table...was told it would be a couple hours so we made friends with some other players that we took the spot of as they were getting ready to leave. As the other players got a last drinks and then subsequently left the bar, my friend and I were chatting and signing up for the karaoke that was going on that night. We were about to start our own game then 2 mins later, this a-hole comes up to us and says we can't play anymore because we've been taking to long...WHAT? I thought our name would have been called if a pool table was ready for us. We try to explain we are so sorry and we're about to play right now. But he is not having it. Apparently this guys wants to play "Don't Look Back" GOD and tell us it's either we don't play or we have to leave. My friend felt really bad and disagreed with him saying oh well we were just about to start playing. NOPE HE FLICKS US OFF. my friend starts crying and I try to calm the situation down as my name gets called for karaoke. I went on day two of their soft open. They admittedly have some kinks to work out but the food was worth it!!! When I came in I waited to be seated and it was only about two minutes. The menus are on the table and they are pretty simple. I was able to order quickly with my waitress but it did take like 20min to get grilled shrimp tacos. Then when we were ready for the check, our waitress was nowhere to be found. I'm going with it being because there was a larger graduation party there at the same time and again it's a soft opening. This was a nice, chill place to head late-night on a Friday. The kitchen stays open late, so we had some really great tacos and drinks. I wish there had been a little more salsa to accompany the basket of chips that we had - it was a bit disproportionate, and I would rank my margarita as being just average. After the same waitstaff's friends left unbeknownst to us, me and my were friend engaged in a conversation when the same employee came up to us and not five minutes later AGGRESSIVELY told us if we weren't going to play pool we needed to leave. We had no idea that the other people had left and our table was open. The waitstaff expressively said "I want to go home so pack up your balls" even though the bar was open for another two hours. When we tried to explain that we didn't know it was our turn this particular waitstaff FLIPPED US OFF and told us to GET THE FUCK OUT IF YOURE NOT GOING TO PLAY. The best year of my adult life was spent at their Carytown location, so when fire destroyed that one, I was emotionally devastated to say the least. Safe to say, this place is even more fantastic than the original. They've taken over an old and long abandoned pool hall in Scott's Addition, but kept all the fun. The interior is beautiful, with a long bar and plenty of space to move around, something the original severely lacked. They have four tables to play pool, and two tables to play shuffle puck. All the food is the same, and I have to say, these are hands down the best tacos in Richmond. The chorizo and the fish are my favorite, but if they ever have chicken skin during your visit, don't hesitate for a second - ORDER IT! I myself had three during my last visit. Speaking of, their tacos are C H E A P! They start at $2 and go up to $4, with most of their other menu items under $10. Another real treat is the Frito Pie - all the ingredients of their regular nachos served in a personal size bag of Fritos. Delicious!
