This place is SO much more than donuts. This was my first pho experience since leaving the Los Angeles area. Donut Bistro offers authentic cuisine in huge portions and VERY fair prices. My lady and I got the large Veggie Pho and an order of the Lemongrass Chicken. The pho was so filling and loaded with veggies that we had to take the chicken home for leftovers. One of my tests of good Asian food is how well it is cold the next day and Donut Bistro holds up well! I look forward to future visits this chilly winter for more pho. read more

The donuts looked good, the service was friendly and excellent. We had Hot Sour Soup, it was just ok, does have meat which is fine with me. The pot stickers where doughy and needed more sear time, filling a bit bland. The chicken chow main was very bland, no good sear on the noodles which is what I prefer. Fast service, good Pho and you can sneak a donut in without the wife knowing when you so graciously offer to go pick up dinner. Way to go you smart guy! I stopped by this new South Reno location, which I was told has been open a couple months now. It's address is: 465 S Meadows Pkwy, Reno, NV, 89521-5945; not sure how to update or add this address for Donut Bistro's second location to Yelp. I decided to give this place a try after receiving a mailer coupon for a free donut (buy one get one) and after reading Billy's review noting that they have chocolate creme-filled donuts (thanks bro!). I tried a double chocolate cake donut, and one of the chocolate cremes (it is a glaze donut with chocolate icing and filled with a chocolate-pudding type filling in the center). The cake donut was good sized but a tad crunchy for my taste; the chocolate creme donut however was delicious! The donut was light and fluffy; not too thick like some other places. I was on the look-out for the amount of filling in the center based on a previous review, but was pleasantly surprised as seemed more than a than a teaspoon to me and hit it on the first bite- so maybe they have increased the amount or was just a renegade batch one day. If the one I got had much more filling in it than it did, it might even have been over-load (too sweet). But then these things are always subjective to individual tastes and preferences. I confirmed they did indeed offer refills on the cofee, even for a large one. Service was great, a friendly cute young lady was the only employee and was on quick on her toes as people walked in. The location is small and non-descript; couple of booths and some tables, and is located just north of and in the same complex as the Wells Fargo at S. Meadows Pkway and Gateway. The name "Donut Bistro" could lead some to think this is a fancy gourmet donut shop; that it is not, but for what it is, it's quite good! I preferred the donuts to the larger nearby Doughboy's. The companion coupon to the free donut mailer coupon I used was a $2 off a dozen; good deal if you need a bunch! I will definitely be back, but will stick to the glazed donuts and the chocolate creme ones in particular :-). Last time we visited I inquired about non glazed raised donuts and was told just to call ahead about 10 minutes and they would cook some up. I thought that was amazing! I came here with my husband this morning for coffee & a snack before hitting the road to our new place. I ordered the white chocolate caramel cappuccino which was phenomenal, and a cinnamon roll that was also delicious. My husband had the French vanilla cappuccino which he instantly said was good after taking the first sip. He also had a bear claw that was really good and super filling. I have been coming to this PHO restaurant for quit some time (probably have eaten their 30+ times). You could call me "a regular". I have been trying to eat healthier so I would come in and order spring rolls. 1 order of spring rolls (4 pieces) was not really enough and 2 orders (8 pieces) was a little to much. So I would order 6 pieces. The first time I ordered they looked confused like I just ordered a pizza. So for the next couple of visits they would accommodate me. The third time I came in they told me I could only order 4 pieces or 8. I have NO IDEA WHY they couldn't give me 6 pieces but whatever. Over the next few months I would come in and had no problems. I would usually get 1 order of spring rolls if I wasn't too hungry and if I was really hungry i would order 2. Today WILL BE THE LAST TIME I EVER GO TO THIS PLACE AGAIN!!! I walked in at 12:15 with the place pretty full. The lady asked if I wanted a table and I said yes. She went over to a table that was messy and cleaned it. I sat down and waited for her to come back over and take my order. My wife was meeting me so I got there early because she had to go to work for a meeting. It was a good thing I got in because moments later about 3 people walked in for to go orders. Instead of coming to my table to take my order she took their order. I was a little upset because she should have taken my order. Anyway chalk it up to forgetting. Then 2 more people came in and wanted tables. She sat them both at different tables and served water WITHOUT COMING OVER TO ME TO TAKE MY ORDER. So at this point there have been 5 people that have walked in after me that have been helped. My wife walks in and I am pretty upset. Just then 2 more people walk in for to go orders. She takes their orders and then walks over to my table. She says, "What would you like" I ordered 2 orders of spring rolls and 2 waters. I figured It was a quick order and I had been sitting there for about 20 minutes so I thought she would expedite. I watched as EVERY SINGLE PERSON that came in after me receive their meal. I was about ready to get up but I really love the food and it is good for my diet. 35 minutes sitting there and SHE BRINGS 1 ORDER OUT......... We ate the spring rolls and waited another 10 minutes before she brought the second out. I can assure you I will never be going back. Absolute worst customer service I have ever seen. When I was ready to pay she came over dropped the bill and didn't even apologize. read more

One of my favorite places in South Reno. Cheap, but not at the expense of quality. There aren't many good, cheap Chinese places in Reno, and this is easily one of the best. After looking a lot and much disappointment, I saw this and had to try it. I was a little skeptical a place could offer donuts, Chinese and Vietnamese without failing at one, but it's highly recommended for great and simple food. Small, casual dining experience, and the variety here is amazing. I would imagine it's also great for takeout. Very reasonable prices and many great options. The Vietnamese/pho is also great. Solid donuts as well, but fairly typical. All their food is the perfect balance of price and quality. It's a winning combination! There are times that they run out of basil for the pho, you have not choice but to eat it, still tastes good, but-the-basil!!!!! Here's what makes this place good- after pretty good Vietnamese or Chinese food, you get to choose from a great selection of donuts! I had the pho, which really for the most part is about the same everywhere in Reno. Wife had twice cooked noodles, which was pretty good as well. Service was adequate. What I liked is that it was good, pretty fast, and then we got donuts afterwards. Here's something I particularly liked - the maple donut with bits of bacon. I was chatting with the guy behind the counter about voodoo donuts in Portland Oregon, and he stated that he makes his this way because you get a bit of bacon in every bite. Smart dude. Donuts and pho isn't the most fluid business combination but I guess if they can do both well why not. I haven't had the donuts but I did stop in for lunch yesterday and overall it was decent. It was slow so it was very quick and the prices are very reasonable. It's certainly not the best pho in town but it was pretty good. I appreciated that they had flame broiler chicken as an option as most Vietnamese restaurants don't offer chicken rather pork, beef or shrimp. I wasn't overwhelmed but for an inexpensive and quick healthy lunch in south Reno I would return. A salad and a vermicelli bowl with chicken came to $11.75. read more

Mmmmm. Maple-bacon donuts. The stuff dreams are made of. I was tipped off to Donut Bistro by a coworker who knows of my bacon needs. At first, seeing a police car in the parking lot was a good sign. As I got closer, it was determined to only be a refurbished private black-and-white. Upon entering, the Bistro is a very tiny shop. The windows are filthy inside and out and made it difficult to even see outside in the parking lot. Obviously never cleaned since store opening, and makes one worry about cleanliness elsewhere in the shop. They have machine-run cappuccino machines and hot chocolate machines. Might as well be at the airport or using a vending machine, which probably would have left us feeling more fuzzy about our service: When we walked in and marveled that the Tale of the Bacon Donut was true, we were interrupted by a terse "What do you want." Asked the girl how she was, and she just repeated, "What do you want." Nice. Then, we were trying to order other donuts, and she just wouldn't respond. When we asked if she got everything, she just said that she needed "more information. There are three different kinds of jelly donut." Seriously. Were you just going to stand there in silence until we told you? Then, we went to check out. She asked if we wanted a drink, and my husband ordered coffee. She asked if he wanted room for cream, then proceeded to fill it to the very brim to the point of spilling. Then, she asked what kind of cream. ? No mention of options, and acted like we were dumb for not knowing the contents of her refrigerator. When presented with the coupon from ValPak, we just asked her to redeem whatever one was worth more--free donut versus free coffee. She would not respond. Then just started cutting one of the coupons and asked again which was worth more, would not respond, just asked for the money. Will never return to this shop, regardless of quality of donut or bacon requirements. No one needs to experience this kind of service early on a Saturday, with no one else in the shop. Hate to think how much worse it would have been in a rush. Will gladly go to the semi-ghetto Jelly Donut on Wells, with enthusiastic lovely ladies that say "Thanks you!!" The food here is fantastic and made to order. Nice atmosphere, wonderfully nice owners that run the place and if you like rice noodles, the Singapore street noodles are the bomb. The fresh spring rolls are great, the pho is super legit, the pork pot stickers are not the small previously frozen ones everyone else serves, they're huge and a meal by themselves and I have yet to try something I haven't liked. Not the best.... by far not the worst pho..... so I give it three stars. Super convenient and fast they seem friendly and that accounts for a whole lot in my book. I always get the pho rare streak and it's passable and delicious enough. I sometimes get a donut for desert when I'm feeling truly diabolical. Donuts are good and fresh by the way. Don't be afraid to eat here - it serves it's purpose for location and speedy meal that you don't have to cook. If your a pho prima donna then make the ten minute drive downtown to fight the hobos and drug addicts. read more

I know at first I was a little skeptical about a place that listed itself as both a Pho restaurant and a donut shop, but I'm glad I tried it. I mainly go there for their more savory delights (though a donut is not often out of the question either). The staff are always pleasant, and the food tastes great. It's very affordable, and the Pho is delicious. The broth is flavorful and the portions are very generous. A small Pho soup usually comes out to about two meals for me, and the large soup usually comes out to about three, depending on how hungry I am. I've also tried a few other things on their menu, and their fried rice dishes are good as well. But my favorite is definitely their spring rolls, you know the ones with the rice paper? Delicious! Some places I've gone to taste off, or the taste changes visit to visit, But Donut Bistro's has a consistent level of flavor and never tastes off at all to me. The only downside is, I used to get the spicy pho with the beef, pork and everything else with pork's blood only to find out on my most recent trip there that pork's blood is no longer available. Donuts and pho. One if the weirdest combos for a restaurant ever. With that said, you need to try this place. Never had a bad donut, it's always fresh and perfect. They even have bacon on maple donuts for you adventurous types. I haven't tried too much of the restaurant items because I'm completely addicted to their spring rolls and peanut sauce like catnip is to cats. They are unbelievably delicious and better than the ones served in other popular restaurants in Reno. I'm not going to leave a negative review because I didn't actually eat there. We usually go to Donut Bistro in Sparks but thought we'd try the one in Reno for a change. When we walked in we were surprised to find out they also served Pho. Weird combo but whatever. Anyway, the place didn't smell like a donut shop, more like a Chinese restaurant, which was weird for 10 a.m. They had about half the amount of donuts that the Sparks location has, and they weren't very friendly. When I asked if they had any more maple bars, he said no, and then said the round maple was the same. It's not. We left and went to Sparks. I'm sure everything tasted fine, and they looked clean, so I'm sure they're a good restaurant, just not our type of regular donut shop. read more

Best donuts I've ever had! The chocolate bars are awesome. Not to sweet, perfectly fried to have a crunch on the outside and melt in your mouth inside. I've never had donuts like that before. They've never disappointed, and the buttermilk bar is to die for. They're always very busy, which can be a tad frustrating when wanting to just get in and out, but that is a reminder of how fresh their donuts are! And it is noticed that they use good oil to fry, and seems to be changed very regulary. What a treat!!!! read more

This little restaurant is super good, I'm so happy my husband and I found this place. We ordered mushroom chicken and pan fried noodles and both were so delicious, all the vegetables are so fresh. I bought myself a few lunch from here. salad bowl, and their spring rolls are great appetizers that is totally worth my money from here.

My parents seem to like this restaurant a lot, but I'm just okay with it. I've tried several dishes and I just am not a huge fan. I will say their donuts are excellent, but I don't come here to eat donuts. I've tried their pho noodles and I find it unusual that they use beef stock for their broth and not the regular chicken or vegetable stock. That makes it unlike traditional Vietnamese pho as it tastes like beef noodle soup, American style. I find that they give far, far too many vegetables also in their beef broccoli...I'm not there to get gas from eating a broccoli farm, I'm there to enjoy the beef that goes with it, and there's just not enough of it. I figure this is how they cut corners because beef can be pricey. I tried their sweet and sour chicken, and that was okay, but you have to be pretty fucked as a chef not to make that correctly...the sweet and sour is usually a packaged sauce anyways. Their mabu tofu dish is unlike any other mabu tofu I've tried...normal Chinese mabu tofu has ground pork in it and a very spicy sauce, and this one is vegetarian...which therefore, makes it NOT mabu tofu. All it is is vegetables ( again) and tofu, and the tofu is cut so large I feel like a whole package of it is just cut into four pieces. Their fried rice is okay, but again, you have to be pretty bad to get that wrong. All in all, I go here when I am with my parents. Personally, I'm not a huge fan. But, it could be worse. read more
