Stainless steel chairs are pushed up against 2 wooden laminate tables, and the remaining counter space is littered with old appliances, pink takeout boxes, and other knick-knacks. The poorly lit donut display is filled only with the most traditional varieties -- the apple fritter and cinnamon roll are the edgiest options. Chinese pop music plays, interrupted intermittently by crackling feedback and newscasts from the tiny flatscreen television behind the counter. A consistent trickle of regulars arrive to dine in and take out during the weekday earlybird service. When I arrived about an hour into opening, I was surprised to find that not all donuts were yet available -- specifically, I was left without any maple or chocolate-frosted options. Instead, I settled on a plain glazed raised donut and an apple fritter.
