My die hard, Seahawks fan roommate was celebrating a birthday. I wanted to do something special for her, which is tough to do in a pandemic and the travel restrictions are high. First of all, I am a possible new customer. I don't know how good their donut taste like or how well they are made in comparison to Peterson's or the other two donut shop around Escondido. I was excited to order a dozen custom order donuts for Fathers Day and had given myself three weeks to order it. This is post pandemic time and I would have loved to support my local business owners. However, Donutgram have very very very poor customer service that I have ever encountered. They lie, they give you excuses and they do not care about their customers. So on 6/5 at 10:31 am I have reached out to Donutgram via their business Facebook page inquiring if they could create a customer order donuts for Fathers Day for my husband. The conversation went like this, I want to order a dozen custom donuts for my husband how much is it? I was told $30 for a dozen custom donuts however I like. Keep that in mind. However I like. I am attaching a messenger conversation of what they said. The conversation went on and I sent pictures of the donuts I like. The fruit ones 8 of them and 4 baseball ones. This was now 6/7. They didn't respond after my message so I am assuming everything I said was in order. Fast forward to yesterday. I got a text saying they are confirming my order and I confirmed the price again and the details. That's when everything was revealed that they are a scam or they have poor communication and business practices. I am not sure if it's both or the latter. I was told "no" the price is $45.99. To my shock, I asked why and I was told cause the donuts are 3.99 each for the fruits. How the heck did they jump $15? I told them and reminded them that they said on 6/7, I can order custom donuts for $30 however I like. I sent them the photos and the details and they never replied to say no that's not the price but now that they know I needed it they suddenly changed their mind? A disaster if you have an event that you are getting the donuts for. Then instead of saying okay we can honor what we said, I get a response of you should have called we don't monitor Facebook? Who the hell was I talking too? Why use Facebook as part of your business practices if you can't communicate or monitor it? Bad business, bad customer service, poor commutation. I will tell all my friends and family. This is not a good business to go to if you have custom orders. Hire more people to "monitor" your social media accounts or don't integrate it as part of your business. If I could give you a negative star, I would give you a negative 100. Thanks for ruining my Fathers Day plan. read more

Such a picturesque shop worthy of the gram. I love the display of donuts and the corner set up for a photo sesh. The kindness here is on a whole nother level. I already had a list of donuts in mind from their yelp posts and I was bummed two weren't out on display. I asked the cashier if they had the strawberries and cream. She went to the back and told me they don't but would make it for me. I also asked if they had the choco mazapan one and she went to the back and brought out a fresh tray of them and put them on display. I was in heaven. Horchata donut: light and airy, perfect donut but the glaze is hard to tell it's a horachata flavor. Choco mazapan: my favorite. It tastes like the Delarosa candy sprinkled on top. Highly recommend this one. Strawberries and cream: absolute favorite. Such a perfect breakfast donut. The cream is light and delicious. The Oreo bar doesn't have a filling but is very good as well. This place goes above and beyond in my book! I saw on Instagram they had Christmas tree donuts so I went in before work to pick some up. They didn't have any available so I asked about them. They didn't have any ready for the day yet, but immediately asked how many I wanted so they could go in the back and decorate them for me. I asked for 2 while picking out a few dozen other donuts for my coworkers. They boxed up the 2 trees for my coworkers' kids in a separate box all special with some donut holes and an extra Christmas donut. I didn't even notice until I got to work. I was already so impressed with their customer service when they made me those 2 special donuts.... but it was even MORE above and beyond to make a custom little box!!! A little pricier than other shops, but definitely worth the price. The chocomazapan is so creative and delicious! A little too sweet for me, but my partner loved it! Huge, perfectly cooked doughnuts. This was a spur of the moment decision while we were on our way to the Safari Park and we were SO GLAD we stopped. Staff were friendly and helpful, never rushing us. I got the old fashioned and an apple fritter and really I only needed one or the other because they were BIG but I couldn't decide. If I had one critique, the fritter could've had a bit more cinnamon but I'm not the norm there I'm sure. If I lived here, I'd be stopping for a doughnut frequently. I deviated from my go-to donut shop on El Norte Pkwy to try Donutgram based on some reviews I'd seen about their specialty donuts. I'm crazy about pudding filled chocolate frosted donuts so I got that and some donut holes to start with. I was amazed about how they split the donut and spread the Bavarian cream throughout instead of just pumping some cream in the middle like other places do. That impressed me so much. The donut holes are really tender a little misshapen which makes me think they're hand made and really fresh. Last time I was there I tried the ham and cheese croissant with jalapeño. It seems a little larger than others I've had around town and the quality of the ham is better as well. Most of the filling is on one side but that's not uncommon and it's still the best I've had. I love donuts and I pay attention to the details. I also bake a lot and have made donuts myself. I love interesting interior design, and I was excited to see a donut place open during the pandemic. My husband and I went at about 8 am on a Saturday for our first visit. First impressions: The landscapers were out front using a blower, the door to the donut shop was open and debris (and air and gas fumes of course) was swirling so much that we couldn't even get out of the car immediately. It seems obvious that the shop would want to run over and shut their door for that but they seemed oblivious. The employee was wearing a mask. No spots marked on the floor to keep people apart, but signage was up to advise social distancing. Donuts: Not a huge selection (which is ok--but just so you know), and some categories were already low at 8 am, but the display looked nice. We decided to try an old fashioned with chocolate icing, a Horchata (raised) donut and a cinnamon crumb (cake) donut. The old fashioned looked a little thin and my husband reported that the donut dough itself was heavier and denser than he's had before (he orders only this style everywhere he goes) and there was no crispiness on the edges. I took bites of the other two. The Horchata donut looked like a very puffy raised donut with an off-white glaze and no other topping. Perhaps there was vanilla or vanilla flavoring in the glaze (didn't taste like much of anything) but I didn't see or taste cinnamon. It just tasted like a glazed donut--but with something off-putting which I'll get to. The texture was airy with lots of air pockets, as if it had gone too far on the rise. It lacked that beautiful squish and partial rebound when you take a bite, and just stayed airy. The cinnamon crumb was cake style (I assume that's what they were going for since a cinnamon crumb is always cake) and again the crumb looked like the rise had been allowed to go too far. It was very tall with lots of air pockets and not a uniform crumb and that dense but not heavy texture a good cake donut has (see photo). It lacked a significant cinnamon flavor or that nice crisp exterior and I didn't finish it. Issues with all donuts: I had to nibble the outside skin off the Horchata donut (it was only glazed on the top) to figure out what the strange flavor was on all the donuts. It's the oil. If you've ever tried those awful air fried snacks that come in bags of "spinach, potato and carrot" and have a texture like styrofoam, the flavor of the oil tasted like the flavor of the air fried potato and spinach snacks. It is a really weird flavor, by the way. They definitely need a purer oil that lacks noticeable flavor. And yes, I felt gross after nibbling that off, but I did it for you. Coffee: My husband asked for a coffee and she asked him if he wanted Columbian Roast or French Vanilla. He loves flavored beans and drinks his coffee black, so he said French Vanilla. Next thing we know, I observe her getting out a big jug of Coffee Mate and pouring it into his coffee. We stopped her since we didn't ask for fake creamer and apparently that's what she meant by "French Vanilla Coffee." She did pour us a new black coffee and apologized, but we were really surprised that's what they mean by "French Vanilla" coffee. The coffee tasted smoky and burnt to me but my husband said he liked it. The decor was cluttered by boxes which I assume were because of deliveries due to the pandemic--so no points off for that. There is a wall over in the corner where I guess you can take your pics for the gram, but I wasn't tempted. Decor--fine. More modern than donut shops usually look. I actually hope they tweak their recipes and survive, because the world needs all the donut shops it can get! read more

Of course everyone knows Petermans donuts, but they were closed on Monday so we decided to give donutgram a try. I'm so glad we did, this is our new spot! The bakery is clean, bright and open. The wall set up for photos is so cute! And the donuts are delicious!! My husband loved the Apple fritter, how it was nice and crispy on the outside but soft on the inside with a lot of flavor. Donutgram took the place of Marte's Donuts by Ash & Washington and modernized the place up. I didn't visit until the COVID pandemic already started so I'm not sure how it is regularly here. The place is relatively new and a welcoming place for locals. They have decorated walls that are instagramable (hence their name--do it for gram, guys) and provide drinks and donuts until all of the donuts run out. Currently they are offering fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee drinks blended, hot, and iced, among others. Last time we went to grab a half dozen of donuts to include a glazed old fashion, 2 apple fritters, a Boston cream, one regular glazed, and a strawberries and cream special donut (it's got fresh strawberries with whipped cream sandwiched between a sugar donut). However I think there was a slight misunderstanding when we got a regular cake donut instead of an original glazed one. Not to worry. We ate the cake donut with some lilikoi curd we had at home which made it just as good. We wore masks, social distanced in line, and they take cash and card. Woot woot! Oh and the apple fritter? One of THE BEST apple fritters we have ever had and it's saying a lot. One fritter is the width of our "small" dining plate at 6" across. Heck yeah! You can taste the fresh diced apples, its not greasy/oily, and each bite had some glazed apple goodness. They opened during the peak of the pandemic as the stay at home order was initiated in March 2020. My family was really craving doughnuts and saw that they had a soft opening the day before (announced on their facebook). My aunt and I walked there as we lived a block away. They were so nice and happy we stopped in. The doughnuts were great to where my family and I still go there to this day because the quality has only gotten better since.
