Dooley's I have waited to visit this establishment for 2 yrs. I thought it would be awesome, but on a leisurely drive today we decided to drop in. From the first encounter it was mediocre, and got worse by the minute. Not sure if it was just an off day or what? I'm pretty easy to please (as long as the food is decent) but they got my order wrong from the beginning and from the experience I had, I won't be back. The waitress was Debra. They all wore sweatshirts and seemed lacksidaisilcal. Maybe if they were all tired they should've closed down because it was bad enough that I had to write a review. I ordered chicken bites, plain and when they came out they had buffalo sauce all over them. (NOT WHAT I ORDERED)! They seemed to be pre-occupied (ballgame on and hard-rock music playing at the same time -C L A S H)!! The type on menu was so small I couldn't read it (with glasses on) and had too much info on it! The prices were high based on the quality I received. Everything claimed to be gluten free and fresh but my tenders were anything I but fresh. So I had to walk the tenders up to the waitress because she never came back. They remade them and while we were waiting on the remake them the "chef" strolled thru to see who was complaining about his creation. He had a soiled chef uniform and looked like he'd walked out of the woods. I can assure you I will NOT be back!! read more

Stop for lunch and it was delicious! Staff friendly and helpful. Our party had the sliced beef burger and stuffed burger. Both excellent. Beer on two from the sister brewery was delicious. Great meal and atmosphere! Apple pie outstanding! read more

We came to Dooleys, driving from Banner Elk, heading to Charlotte, looking for a place to eat before leaving to Florida. After seeing the great reviews on Yelp, we decided to eat here. The reviews were right. Very happy with the service and food. Everything we ate was delicious! Loved the family feel and style, history pictures on the walls and the food was very good, large portions. We all had something different, from the club sandwich, tomato bisque soup, Reuben sandwich, fresh cut French fries, turkey wrap and cheese pizza, everything was delicious. Super fun atmosphere! The parking was easy and the waitresses are all very nice. the food is probably the best for the area. The cocktails are well-made with good flavor. We had a potato appetizer that was extremely over cooked. That's the only reason it is a four-star instead of five. read more

What a great little hole in the wall! This will be our regular stop when we go to the mountains now. The burgers were so good, with so much flavor... I wish we lived closer! The French Dip was HUGE and so tasty! I ordered it with the sweet potato fries and they were seriously the best I've ever had. Also, if you're looking for gluten free options THIS is the place for you! Almost every sandwich can be made gluten free, every burger, or wrap. The pizzas also, they even have a side of gluten free pasta salad AND gluten free coconut crust cheesecake or gluten free apple pie for dessert. So just ask, they like to accommodate! Dooleys has a laid back atmosphere with some really cool local historical memorabilia hanging around inside. There is a large bar area with booths and table around. Plenty of seating away from the bar if you so choose. They make the hamburgers fresh to order with various twists. You can get garlic or jalapeños stuffed in the bigger just to name a few. The portions are very large and the quality of all the food is really good. If your looking to have a burger and beer this is the spot. read more

Headed out on vacation and looked up places to eat in wilkesboro on yelp. Dooley's came up as the top result. Looked at pics and reviews and said that place sounds awesome. Plus it's right beside the historic courthouse and jail that housed the infamous Tom Dooley. When we went in it was a great atmosphere. Lots of locals and families enjoying the night, playing trivia. We first looked at the menu and the burgers seemed expensive, but when I realized how big they are, the price seems decent. I got a hamburger steak and two sodas for $9.99 and it was the best hamburger steak I have ever had. I can't wait to try their specialty burgers. read more

Very rarely Do I give 5 stars. But all I can say is.... the people that run this place looove to cook. You can taste it in their food. Home made fries, fresh pressed burgers. Wings so big and light it's like they flew in fresh ! Home made desserts. Eat in side or outside. Great service. Relaxing. Pull yourself up a seat and stay awhile in this home grown restaurant. That is steep in history also. The waitress filled us in on some of the history of the hanging tree and love triangle. If your traveling the blue ridge parkway this little spot is about 20 miles off of it, but so very worth it ! read more

If there's a better burger in NC we haven't found it. Beef ground fresh on premises daily. They also cut their own fries, which are top notch. Drink prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is casual with 4 TVs for sports. All the sandwich offerings are excellent. The only thing we've ever had that wasn't to our taste was the pizza which we found a little bland. But Dooley's is a burger place, and they do that better than anywhere else. read more

Huge, delicious burgers. Both were cooked perfectly as well. One of us had the jalapeño burger and the other had a go to jail burger. We asked for the jalapeño burger with lots of peppers and it was nicely stuffed. It has more of a tavern/bar than restaurant atmosphere, but we're going back to sample more of the menu for sure. read more

We stopped at this restaurant the other day after getting our Christmas tree. It was highly recommended by the Christmas tree guy. I ordered the fried chicken special and when I got it not only was there too much breading the center of the chicken breast was still frozen. I would assume that all the chicken is frozen and not fresh. My wife had the barbecue platter and it look like somebody threw up on her plate. The salad bar was nice. read more

I very rarely give a whole 5 stars, but this place is very deserving! It is a hidden jewel in downtown Wilkesboro. I learned about it by visiting the health food store that is located next door. I have never been disappointed. I can't believe this place doesn't get more business than it has. I feel like if they relocated to a busier area, they would always be packed. The burgers are OUTSTANDING. Everything is made fresh, and the burgers are huuuuuge. I get the smallest one they have (1/2 lb) and I swear, it's about as big as my head haha!! They have a lot of different options to choose from. I usually get the bacon and egg burger with Swiss cheese, lettuce, and onion. So good!! The fries are delicious as well, as they are also cut in house. My husband ordered the 1 lb burger last night and the thing was monsterous. They also have stuffed burgers! Subs, pizzas, sandwiches, salads, etc. I mean this place is a gold mine. The staff is always so down to earth and attentive. Never had a bad experience. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat, and if not the best burger joint in the area (all the way from Wilkesboro to Winston!). They also have gluten free options, and do very well at accommodating allergen needs. They have a full service bar, and do special events like karaoke and music trivia. I really wanted to like this place. I love the vibe of the whole place and the reviews gave me reason to believe I needed to visit while I was passing through. The experience I had left a lot to be desired. I placed an order of vegan chili cheese fries and a veggie Ruben. My date ordered the Mac and cheese burger with baked beans. This was a to go order and we sat at the bar. I don't mind waiting for good food. 15 minutes after I place my order the kitchen tells the server they don't have the vegan chili... That's a very long time. We wait for 35 more minutes... Which is fine. We get outside and the ruben had been replaced with the equivalent of a Greek salad (no dressing) rolled up in a tortilla. The burger my date ordered was over cooked. The baked beans and potato salad was under whelming. The fries were good. So given that information the only things that weren't cooked a head of time were the fries and burger. The place had two other customers....So I don't know what took almost an hour to prepare. The whole time I was waiting I was thinking it may have been the ruben, that it took extra time to make, but they didn't even make it! Also the server stood by the kitchen repeating " where is that order, gosh they are pissing me off!" She wasn't talking to anyone directly, but we knew it was about us. Dooleys has been our favorite place to eat in Wilkes county since moving here in 2007. Seth does a great job running the place. Service can be a little slow but the food is always cooked fresh and taste great. It truly is gem. read more

We was in town and looked up they best reviewed restaurants this place had a lot of reviews and food looked good from the pictures. The taste wasn't there at all. I ordered the garlic burger, it had a good size patty. But that's all it was a burger patty and a bun. I had to add extras like cheese and stuff. The burger was good but it lacked. The fries was not good even after adding salt it still wasn't there I paid $13 ate half the burger. My boyfriend ordered the loaded potatoe skins that was $11 and they was burnt HARDLY any cheese and they was dry. It was SUPER hard to eat. He also ordered the bacon cheese fries and those was $13 and as you can see from the picture. There's no cheese and Barely any bacon. He choose not to eat. I ate half my burger. Our total was $80 We was offered Substitutions but we was already turned away from what we had . A 10%-20% discount would of been better. The service was good waiters was nice. We won't be going back though . We ended up paying the whole full price bill and left still hungry. We had to go somewhere else read more

The waitress was really nice and attentive. The food took a long time to get to us! Not sure why. We ordered a kids burger and some boneless chicken bites. Food took about 30 mins and it wasn't too busy. By the time we received our food it wasn't even warm. It was a bit cold and it seemed like it had just been sitting there I don't know. I did ask in how long our food would be out and said she would go check but never told me. 5 mins later she brought it out. The food should've been hot or at least warm not cold! read more

I came here for the gluten free options they have and saw and wanted an apple pie. Didn't like the cold greeting I received from three girls, they paid no attention to me, I had to tell them what I was there for (to pick up my order) they seemed to prioritize others when it wasn't a busy afternoon. I ordered another slice while there and I wondered why they went up stairs to a back room to get the pie and then just stick it in a microwave, it looked like apple soup. I was dissatisfied.
