I took my 2016 VW GTI to Eddie's because I was having AC issues with my vents only blowing hot air. Jose recommended doing an AC flush since my car was 9 years old and the AC had never been serviced. It completely fixed the issue and the AC has been blowing cold ever since. Before going to Eddie's I took my car to a VW dealership where they quoted me 8+ hours of labor to take apart my entire dashboard and instrument cluster to replace a part in the AC system. Jose was able to fix my car in 1 hour saving me thousands on my repair bill compared to what I would have paid at the dealership. I had a great experience at Eddie's. I recently had an issue with my Audi A4 and they are quick in diagnosing the problem. In-spite of them being extremely busy they still managed to fix my car the same day. I would highly recommend them. They are honest and very knowledgable with German cars. read more

If I could give them 1/2 or no star I would. Long story short my moms car was towed to Eddie's because the key would not engage the ignition to turn on the vehicle and the key fob would not work to unlock/lock the doors. Jose called us stating the problem was a faulty steering lock mind you (the steering worked fine and didn't give us any problem) he also stated the battery needs to be replaced. First it took 1 whole week to complete the repairs. Then upon picking up the vehicle Jose states he noticed there is a problem with the ignition switch sometimes the car turns on, sometimes it does not (the problem we took it there for) but it's fine to take home until the part completely fails. The vehicle was driven home and the very next day the car would not start. We tried to start it about 15-20 times over about 2 hours and nothing. We left it and waited another day to see if things changes next day same thing it would not start. Jose was called and informed he said to bring the car next week Tuesday that's 5-6 days out. The car was dropped Tuesday he does not call back until Thursday stating it is the ignition switch and he will order the part to make repairs but we would have to pay. My sister tells him we should not be charged because they never made the correct repairs and they made the wrong diagnosis. Let me remind you he already charged over 1k for the steering lock & battery my mother is over 70 years old and retired. Jose goes on to say he was trying to save us money. We did not ask for you to save us money we just wanted the car repaired but now it will cost more because they made the wrong repairs (if they made any repairs at all) and now they want to charge us again. Eddie's is unprofessional, not reliable and looking to make a quick buck. They don't care about the customer or actually repairing the problem. Thanks for nothing Jose. My A/C wasn't working on my 2013 BMW. Took it to the dealership to get repaired. They wanted to charge me $5500 to fix it. We didn't have them fix it. I was recommended to Eddie's German Auto repair. They are busy. Took me a few weeks to get in. They have an organized efficient operation. They are honest. Thats the most important thing. Turns out my A/C wasn't all that broken. Just needed to be flushed and fluids added. Repair cost under $250. Needless to say we won't be going back to the dealership. We found ourselves a great mechanic! read more

I didn't want to let my mom take her BMW to the dealer, because of their mediocre reviews. I don't remember how I found out about EDDIE'S but that's not really important now. I read the reviews and was really impressed so I figured they were worth a try. Yolanda greeted us when we came in- and first impressions are everything! She is friendly, knowledgeable, and explains things in a way that the most inexperienced person understands (my mom). On our first visit my mom just had a tune up. There's not too much you can say about a tuneup but all went well and we were happy and they were on time and I thought their prices were very reasonable. We came back about two months later because we knew we were going to have to have the brakes done because they were 90% worn, and again Yolanda explained everything clearly and answered all our questions to our satisfaction....and we even had a muffler issue that turned out to be very minor and we were only charged for the actual cost of the bracket that had to be put on. No up selling, or telling us we needed a bunch of other things done-just good honest people. I like this auto repair place and will gladly take my car there as well when I need service! These guys are awesome, and I would recommend them to anyone!! read more

Initial impression was great on first review. I have since had my 98 BMW in for 120k service and major work with gasket replacements. I also brought my 93 Supra for 120k maintenance. The quote they gave me is always what I pay. Even when they had to buy some extra parts or the work was more than what they expected. That's just a great business model! After the cars were fixed, the cars drove great and with confidence! My bmw still does have a coolant leak that i knew was there to start with. Jose told me straight up that it needs to be fixed in the future and just add coolant in the mean time until I am ready. He changed my coolant to bmw coolant, and I didnt know where to get it when my coolant got low. Called Jose, and he told me to come by and get it filled no charge! I'm not the type to take advantage of what I can so I bought a gallon of coolant from him. Since the coolant was not premixed, he topped off my coolant anyways for me. You cannot get this kind of service in our nickel and dime world anymore! I have been paranoid of noises coming out of my supra. Thinking it was also a radiator leak and coolant issue from a gurgling sound and low coolant level in the reservoir, I called in today to drop it off. They let me come by after hours, looked in the engine bay for obvious sign of leak, we decided to go for a test drive which unfortunately/fortunately we did not hear any noises. in the end, Jose topped off my coolant again for free! seriously. I felt so bad wasting their time, I just had to write a review as a sign of my gratitude. These people are unbelievable. love them! read more

It seems in today's world of passive-aggressive social media posts, insincere humblebrags, and self-righteous thunder-stealing (don't we all have that annoying relative?), fundamental virtues and values are in short supply. Honesty, however, cannot be compromised, particularly for lawyers, doctors, accountants and auto mechanics. I'm not a fan of dealership service centers. After your car is out of warranty, dealerships suddenly use fear tactics and promises of "authentic" repairs to charge you 2 to 3 times as much for arguably unnecessary and sometimes subpar services. Which is why I am grateful to have found Jose at Eddie's German Auto. This is an honest business of the highest quality. Last year, I had a problem with my BMW. Jose discovered an issue with the ignition coils and the spark plugs. I found this alarming since just a few months earlier, the Fremont dealership allegedly changed these. He discovered they replaced certain parts with non-OEM parts of inferior quality, while neglecting to change other parts entirely. And of course the dealership charged me exorbitant fees for their mediocre (non) service. Not Jose. He showed me the parts he personally replaced, took his time to explain how the parts worked and didn't work, and stayed a bit after closing to provide a thorough explanation. He also provided suggestions for extending the life of my beloved car. Jose also doesn't recommend unnecessary services. Today he examined issues the dealership pointed out during a previous recall visit. Jose served as a second opinion, and concluded that the dealership recommendations weren't necessary for now. We made a plan to address these issues at the next oil change. Most importantly, his quoted price was very reasonable. Of note, I actually enjoy bringing my car to Jose. From our interactions he's an honest, humble and practical professional, and I respect his opinion. Highly recommended. read more

You will not be disappointed to take your car to Eddie's shop, the amount of times I had to take my Audi In to other dealerships including Audi was ridiculous. When I took my q7 into Eddie's it only took them less than an hr to figure out the squeaking noises from breaking forward and in reverse. I drive down from Alameda to Fremont to get my Audi Q5 serviced and repaired with Jose, Yolanda and team. Enjoyed outstanding honest service with reasonable pricing when we lived in nearby Newark. But after moving up to Alameda, we tried a spot in Alameda that did okay for routine work, but failed miserably with a couple repair projects (fuel filter, engine mount and power steering) that took way too long to accomplish. So Jose came to the rescue with a drop off on Wednesday, and everything completed by Friday afternoon. He even changed my headlight free of charge when he heard me hesitate at the added cost that put me over-budget. Bottom line: It's worth the drive for me, and hopefully you'll share great experiences with Eddie's German Auto, too. I am surprised with all of the high ratings this place has gotten but I can understand why. Plain & Simple, Jose at Eddie's German Auto Repair is a smooth hustler. If you are working with Jose, you will find this guy is very personable with great customer service, but its all in an effort to squeeze as much out of your wallet as possible. Basically, I had an emergency situation & had to get my rear brake plate among a bunch of other things I didn't quite understand fixed immediately from Jose because my car became immobilized. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, & let him charge me $600. A little while later, I had a couple of other things I needed to fix on my 02 MW coupe - Serpentine drive belts, possibly Pulleys, possibly spark plugs. Called Jose back because he delivered good customer service, and he quoted me $225 for the serpentine belt alone, and an additional $200+ for each of the other items, totaling $6-700+ He also would not confirm if this was the reason why my car was struggling on a cold start & that my car needs to do all of the above plus maybe more. In an effort to get a better deal, I called up Performance Auto Care near Auto Mall, and these guys were honest & fantastic & definitely know their European cars. Bud quoted me $120 for the Serpentine Belt alone (HALF of what Jose quoted me), and said he would check if I even need Pulley's or Spark Plugs before performing & charging for work which is not even required. How Jose came up with $225 for the Serpentine Belt is beyond me, but it made me realize the previous work he did for $600 was probably 2x what an honest mechanic would have done the same work for. Bottom Line: Get a 2nd quote from the boys at Performance Auto Care - its the most fair/honest/quality shop I ever been to read more

In these hard economic times, an honest mechanic can be a godsend. A shop that will stand by their estimates (reasonable ones at that!), while going above and beyond what you ask them to do, is what you will find at Eddie's German Auto Repair. I had them just do simple things like my air filter, spark plugs and an oil change. They went further and checked my engine compression, topped off fluids, examined brakes, tire pressure, etc. They also gave me a GREAT deal when the coilpack on my A4 went out. Not only are they honest and thorough, they also know their stuff when it comes to German cars (BMW, Audi, VW, etc). German cars are notorious for being difficult to work on, and my Audi and past VWs were no exception. Trust me, if they know German cars, they can definitely do Japanese or American too (which they do). The shop is off of Central Ave between Blacow and Fremont. Another overdue review, but Jose and his crew deserve it. I have received service from Winn VW in Newark ever since I boought my Jetta. I was especially looking for them to repair the "check engine" issue that persisted for over three years. Despite repeated visits to this VW dealership to fix the issue, it was never resolved. So finally I decide to look for another repair shop and found Eddie's and its owner, Jose. Let me just say that Jose runs the most honest and thorough repair shop that I have encountered. Although it took a while to determine the cause of the problem, he insisted on working on this until he did find it. I suspect that this is unlike many shops where they will only patch up the problem without getting to the real cause. He was also very fair with his pricing and proided me with options so that I knew what the repair costs would be. He even re-attached the fuel cap without my asking him (I had totally forgotten that the cap became detached!) What makes him the best is this...soon after I got my car back, the "check engine" light came on again, and I contacted him, He asked me to bring it back so that he could check it. Somehow the issue resolved itself (after he ran the diagnostics)...maybe my car is just weird. But when I asked him what the fee was for returning my car for further work, he said he wouldn't charge me. While many other shops will charge simply for the labor, Eddie is willing to stand behind his work and fix the problem until it is fixed, period. I wholeheartedly support this business and will return for any other car issues I encounter. read more

I came to Eddie's back in the middle of Summer. Just when the Bay Area was at its hottest, sure enough, my air conditioning crapped out. I was still quite new to the Fremont area at the time and found Eddie's online. I came in early on a Thursday and asked the impossible. "Can I get this fixed today?" Jose told me he was slammed but if I brought in the car first thing in the morning he would take a look at it and at least give me a diagnosis. I came in the next morning and waited in the waiting room while Jose did as promised. He informed me of the problem and said he could get the parts in just a few hours. Install would take just a half hour so. This was excellent news. By that afternoon I was back in my car enjoying air conditioned comfort once again. Both Jose, his sister (the receptionist) and the rest of the team were a joy to work with. It's not a fluke that there are so many positive reviews on this place. His staff seems very happy with their jobs (can't say I've ever heard a bunch of mechanics singing along to Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know!"), and they know their stuff. There was never any pressure to fix other things, and Jose asked my permission to perform even the most minute services (like topping off my windshield fluid). I got a very high estimate for my 120000 mile maintenance checkup, and a timing belt replacement, from the dealership in Fremont ,for my Passat. I decided to take the car out after they gave me the estimate on the phone, and started looking for an alternate place online. I found Eddie's German Auto Repair online and read the reviews here, and decided to have the repairs done there. I had a wonderful experience with both the work and the shop owner Jose. The estimate was much better than the dealer's and the job was done with a bit of delay over the estimated time, but quite to my satisfaction. Jose offered to extend my rental car when the parts were delayed, personally gave me a ride to work, and I got to know his son who also gave me a ride on a different occasion. I just took the car back to fix a nagging problem with the secondary air pump. It intermittently would come on/off by itself even when the engine was shut off. It had taken a couple tries to diagnose the problem and perhaps the faulty relay could have been tested the first time I took it in. However they found the problem and fixed it. I like the fact that Jose will show you all the replaced parts, answer any question, spend time looking at the problem with you and will give you an honest and very competitive estimate, all with the friendliest demeanor that's hard to find these days. Since my warranty expired, this is my new go to place. It a family owner business and everyone is great. Please make an appointment and just don't show up. The lady at the front office was really helpful and setup a time and date for me ASAP. Jose, the owner, called me before he did any work to ensure that I was okay with it. They replaced my brakes and gave me a change oil. Prices were great. I would've spent 40% more at the dealership. I love that they already carried BMW parts, so my car was finished on the same day. I dont trust my beloved 2006 VW Jetta with any other car shop!!! I have had so many faulty experiences with mechanics, so I was truly thankful when I discovered this place. I found Eddie's German Auto Repair about a year ago. I needed to get a leak checked/fix (I am not 100% sure what I needed) and I called all over trying to find prices that wont leave my wallet empty. Jose quoted me over HALF of what other car shops were charging me and I have been coming here ever since. He gives me the real deal with whats going on with my car and I trust him. Even though I don't speak car/mechanic lingo, I still get the rundown (in layman's terms) of what's up with my Jetta, what they did to fix it, and why.
