Went there for the first time, spent $56.00 on 2 slices of carrot cake, 2 apple turnovers, plain cheesecake and a lemon meringue pie. Never again! Carrot cake was bland and boring...no flavor, meringue was crunchy and crumbled apart..loaded with sugar, made my teeth ache! I live in the area and go to Messina Market (same owners as the bakery) all the time. I have never had a problem with the bakery when ordering a cake for a birthday or holiday- they have always been delicious and perfect. This time around I needed to order a cake for my wedding and wanted to do a tasting/figure out what my cake would look like. When I called the bakery for an appointment they referred me to the owner, Dani. This is when it all went down hill. We had a lot of disconnects in our emails- I would tell him that one specific date did not work for me and he would mindlessly answer 'that date works, what time'. That same thing happened for about three emails. I thought I was on MTV's show Punked. Finally I told him to please call me because apparently communicating via emails was not working. I continued to be positive with Dani even though I should have dropped him at that point because of how unprofessional he was and how blatantly obvious it was that he didn't care about my business in the slightest. The day of the tasting came and I showed up at the bakery with my Dad at 3pm which was the time of our appointment. I told the girls behind the counter that we were here to see Dani. They told me that he was 'at a cake tasting next door' (which seemed odd considering our appointment was at 3pm, but I was still continuing to be positive). 15 minutes went by and we were standing there like idiots waiting for him. I went up to the girl behind the counter again and reminded her why we were standing there and she responded 'Oh! I have to call him and let him know you are here'. After 20mins no sign of Dani and the girl took over the tasting and brought over some flavors for us to try. I emailed Dani the night before requesting 2 flavors and when one of them wasn't there the day of the tasting the girl said 'these are what you asked for; you only get to try four flavors'. (We even offered to pay her to give us a sample of what I had asked for-ridiculous). I asked her if she would like to see the email I sent him to show what i did in fact ask for, and with an attitude she walked away and brought it for us. After five minutes, still no update on where Dani was and we realized how stupid of us it would be to give money to an establishment that has been so rude to us so we walked out. That was four days ago at this point and I have not received a call or an email from Dani as to why he wasn't there (I can't say I am surprised). Like I said in the beginning, the bakery is really good and ordering a cake for a normal occasion has never been a problem, but once you deal with Dani it is more than a nightmare. read more

I really enjoyed my experience, mainly because the service and quality were top-notch. La Bonne Boulangerie made the cake for my wedding last weekend at Giorgio's and not only was it beautiful it was DELICIOUS! Corey was great with working with my husband and I to finalize a style and pick out our cake flavors. The cake was more beautiful than I could ever imagine and it was delicious. The fillings were amazing and the fondant was tasty too! I'm not a big cake person but this cake was unbelievable. La Bonne Boulangerie got the colors of my wedding cake horrifically wrong. 3 stars because it tasted good, and it was delivered on time. I hated however the LIME GREEN flowers, the bakery missed the beautiful sage directed. The white styrofoam ball topper was also actually VERY visible. This bakery cheapened on the sugar flowers which were supposed to be tightly grouped!!! It looked like a kid's cake and a wedding heartbreak. It is hard to chose one cake but as they seem to always change it up I tend to try what the girls recommend. The sister cafe Messina is just as good. Simply, this place is amazing. I couldn't have better things to say. I went into a few other bakeries in search of a cake for my fiancé's 30th birthday party and was so disappointed in the rudeness of the people I spoke to and excessive costs for what I was looking for. I went in to LBB and met Angela and her daughter Sarah who were both as sweet as could be and helped me come up with the perfect cake. They by far exceeded my expectations, the cake looked a million times better than the Pinterest photo I had shared with them. Not to mention, the red velvet was absolutely delicious! Yunno what folks? I'm going to have to go ahead and give La Bonne a whopping 3 stars...if it was 6 months ago, I would be scoring it 4-4.5 stars... I really think the quality of this place has gone wayyyy down...think of a slippery slope from your Honors BC Calculus class from high school. Their cakes, pastries and assorted cookies aren't as good as they used to be, their creativity for cakes isn't up to par with other bakeries and "cake artists". You can thank the recent artisan CAKE explosion over the past few years to Duff from Ace of Cakes and other shows like Cake Bhoss etc. There is so much cake talent out there including your sister, brother and aunt/uncle who could probably match the talent of a La Bonne cake. I'm really sad because I used to recommend this bakery highly to several other folks and will only patronize them for their fresh french baguettes that you can't find anywhere else. If you are looking to pay extra for your wedding cake and be mislead on what are actually getting. Then this is the bakery for you. I sat down with Cory about 11 months before my wedding and went over all the specific details of how the cake would look. Pulling for cakes the bakery had already done. The cake not only had a giant bubble on the side of the cake but the flowers did not look like they were suppose to and the lettering on the cake was wrong. When I called to discuss the issues after my wedding I was told on three occasions that Cory could call me back which he didn't. I was finally told to send an email. In that email I included all the photos of how the cake was suppose to look and what the cake ended up looking like. I then had to keep following up and finally one of the women who answers the phone tells me Cory said I would be getting a refund. After a month of waiting for the check is was only 1/2 of what I paid. All of my wedding photos with the cake are ruined and mind you the cake was included but I paid extra for the specific things I wanted that I did not get. They have since refused to issued me the remainder of what I paid. Avoid this bakery at all cost they do not deliver on what they promise. read more

Have been using this local bake shop since they opened. Their rainbow cookies are amazing. However, they are not made in house. Most recently, we bought a cake for our mothers birthday when it came time to serve, we noticed the entire table including us literally put their plate aside. The cake was all sugar zero flavor, huge disappointment. Today Sunday, we went to the shop the staff was un_ apologetic for our disappointment. My wife and I were even more upset that they simply said this is their best cake. We demanded a refund or store credit but they said cake was almost half eaten. (The other half in garbage). Located in a small shopping center East of Mill River Road on the North side of 25A is La Bonne Boulangerie. While the area isn't very built up and the shopping center might not get your attention: put this on your radar. La Bonne Boulangerie boasts an impressive assortment of cakes, pies, cookies and pastries. They have cannolis that could kill, cakes that should be in magazines and they arrange the perfect platter. I disagree about the rainbow cookies (see Jamie's review). Not the best but still really good and it can be tough to find a good rainbow cookie. The staff is friendly and helpful and answers questions patiently. The space is tiny (I can't even imagine the rent) and for this reason the bakery is a little cramped. That's fine, since I usually think of bakeries and "get and go" kind of places. The problem is that the tops of the display cases are packed with samples obscuring your view of the staff person to whom you speak. La Bonne Boulangerie ships throughout the country - an added bonus! read more

Well, the place is very clean and modern which is a nice start. If you are looking for coffee and a place to sit, they only have two chairs at a counter which is up against a wall. This is the first bakery I've been in where you don't take a number so you have to wait on a line and can't really look at things in the counters for fear of loosing your place. The prices are not all labeled, only some of the items, so you kind of have to ask them what things cost. They were out of cannolli and a few other items on Saturday, which does seem unusual for a bakery to be out of cannollis. Coffee starts at $2.45 for a 12 ounce paper cup. Cookies are about $15/pound to $18.50/pound. It has a steady stream of business while we were there. They seem to make good bread and things but they seem to run out of things. We had been in Maria's in Westbury earlier in the day and they seemed to have a good if not better selection there. I am giving some demerits on service because it felt a little cold, and we didn't feel all that welcome. read more

I'm local and a good customer but have been coming here less and less due to the fact that the staff makes errors and the people who work here have ZERO customer service skills (writing the wrong name on an engagement cake, errors in filling pre-orders, rude owner, etc.) This morning I went in for bread and cheesecake and when I checked the bag at home they gave me a pie. I called hoping they would just hold a cheesecake off to the side for me to exchange it and I was told they don't "even have pumpkin cheesecake, she probably thought you said pumpkin something else." No apology, no attempt to make it right. My response was "I don't want pumpkin pie, we already have this." To which I was met with silence. It pains me to take my money out of the community I live in but I am done with this place. June 25th was my daughters wedding. The caterer, staff, food and place was fantastic...the included wedding cake, not so much. La Bonne Boulangerie was recommended. The cake tasted fine...their customer service was absolutely horrible. The cake size was determined by the number of people....five tiers was recommended. My daughter wanted it decorated in a Disney theme. We were told no problem but would cost an additional $200. To make the bride happy, we went with it. When we see the cake in the reception hall for the first time, we noticed it was leaning, crooked...sort of a Leaning Tower of Pisa. Everyone that seen it had the same type of response, "it's pretty but crooked." On Monday morning, we sent off a pic of the cake to the bakery. Relating our disappointment....after paying extra to make the cake perfect, we had a very imperfect leaning cake. Whoever received the text wrote they would immediately pass it to Corey. It is now almost 4 weeks later, not a call...text...word or peep from Corey or anyone else from La Bonne Boulangerie. If you just want cake, do whatever. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars was because of the lack of customer service that I've had there on more than one occasion. Every time I go to this bakery I have to break up the employees conversation after five minutes of standing there waiting to be helped. Not to mention 90% of the time the employees don't know what the baked goods are or the ingredients in them. Once I was told I bought a peanut butter moose tart and I got home and it was mocha, yuck! Though they are located in a posh neighborhood and draw from the sophisticated customer base, their offerings are sub-par at best. Cupcakes made with cheapest cake mixes and the vanilla frosting nothing more than Crisco and extract (grocery stores do better. ) Threw away most of the cupcakes as my guests complained about topping and basic flavor. At $3 per cupcake, they should at least use better raw material! Operationally, there are only two slow counter staff at the store anytime I go in, causing long waiting times in the line. This experience was the final straw. I can not in good conscience recommend this pretend bakery. read more

Execellent bakery, however, I think that their prices are a bit high. The only reason why I am not giving it an excellent review is because of an SUV containing two obvious elderly people, whose driving skills I highly doubt & should be required to undergo yearly driver's traning who, by virtue of their sporting a visible parking permit & whom I suspect works at the facility, think that they have the right of way by turning left in front when you are traveling east on West Broadway to drive down an alley separately the bakery from regular parking for the masses. I too am elder ly& disable, yet I do not display a handicap parking permit as I consider them to be for wimps. I remember the days before handicap parking permits came into vogue & yet handicap persons were able to move around without displaying that they are handicap. read more
