First visit and I was very pleased. We didn't even realize that we walked on ten minutes before closing time, but they still served us. I had a green chili chimi with red sauce. It was pretty spicy and very delicious. Mom had carne asada tacos and she said they were very tasty. I was not very impressed with the margarita. A little light on the tequila, in my opinion. Had the Pork Green Chile Chimichanga with Red and Green Sauce. The server was concerned that the red sauce was super hot. I've had hotter sauce at home. This was good . Local Mexican restaurant. We have lots of Mexican restaurants in the area so what sets this one apart? Well, the entree choices! Not the same fast food Carne Asada type of menu. I am happy this place is close to home! We shared the Creamy spicy shrimp plate and the girls shared the kids crispy chicken plate. We weren't too hungry so sharing was perfect for our appetite. We all cleaned our plates so I say we will be back to try more entrees. The only thing that I would change from the creamy shrimp is the tail. Normally it doesn't bother me when shrimp is served with the tail shell , but this plate is served with sauce so it gets messy. The flavor was great! The white rice wasn't too buttery and the cilantro dressing with the side salad was a nice compliment. The servers were super nice and friendly to approach. Price was pretty average for it being local and the plates are filling so I'd say we got our money's worth. I would go here over a chain restaurant for sure. read more

They are usually pretty good on orders but this one had to get tossed because I really wanted those beans. Good chicken but just missing key ingredients. Both inside and outside eating is a refreshing variance to other local joints in this area. They offer higher standards of ambience and food selections than most offer locally. Our selections of Asada (steak) with huevos and papas was excellent. Not far behind were the two Beef Gorditas we had as appetizers, not to mention a fantastic Chilaquiles, scrambled eggs with beans and a terrific and mouthwatering red spicey sauce. Food was great, took a while to come out but munched on some chips while we waited. The ceviche tostada was on the pricey side ok, and super lemony. The corn in a cup was very good. This was the only item we finished. Second time in tried their soups. Spicy fish and shrimp, they aren't kidding. The soup itself is super red and you cannot eat it to enjoy it. Soup didn't have much shrimp or fish in it. The beef soup was full of celery and carrots. Ordered this to go and waited a while. Tried calling in and they didn't answer their phone. I tried the pozole last week. It was delicious. Lots of meat and the broth was outstanding. A little bit spicey, but not overwhelming. You get your choice of tortillas, I went with the homemade corn that were so good. I've tried the green chicken enchiladas, ground beef enchiladas with half green and half red sauce, gorditas, green sauce Chilaquiles, abondigas soup, chorizo egg and potato burritoand the macaroni salad. I've driven pass Dos Gordos many times. But what drew my attention was their advertising sign that sits outside, advertising shrimp and fish tacos. I love a good Baja style taco so I was set on trying them. We were seated right away and brought chips and salsa. I was happy about the complimentary chips and salsa but the salsa was watered down and lacked flavor. The waitress recommended the Green Chili Chilaquiles and the Green Chili Enchiladas, so that's what we got. I added chicken to the chilaquiles and we also ordered the grilled shrimp tacos. The portion sizes were large and neither of us finished our meal. The shrimp tacos were good. The cabbage added a nice freshness and crunch. But the lime and guac salsa elevated the taste, without it they would have been tasteless. The chilaquiles were decent. The chips were fresh and crispy. The chicken didn't add anything special. The green chili sauce lacked flavor. The enchilada pretty much the same, lacked flavor and wasn't memorable, including the rice and beans.. As you can see the theme was "lacked flavor". Everything needed salt, garlic, spice, citrus something, for that good bite. The mimosa was actually what we appreciated the most. The menu was quite extensive. We had a really nice dinner at Dos Gordos. The food is no joke- authentic and delicious! We ordered the ceviche tostada as an appetizer, which was wonderful- except it came out just after our meals arrived. We ordered Shrimp Chile Arellano and Carne Asada meals, and both were delicious! Of the two, I would order the Chile Arellano again in a heartbeat- solid flavors, well seasoned and tender, and I really enjoyed the grilled jalapeño serve with it... solid food prepared well. Im sad to leave this review as this is one of the few sit down restaurants that is not a chain in Laveen. Food... overall is decent. Staff is friendly and attentive. The negative points really comes from the food. Complimentary chips and salsa had a good crunch, is fresh, and taste good. The salsa just lacks a body and I'm not a fan of its consistency - too watery IMO. Shrimp fajitas were pretty good actually. Nothin to rave about but good. Beans were okay - not great, not bad. The side of rice, however, very subpar. It lacks flavors of tomato base and other seasoning. With a few dash of salt and the salsa on the rice it was a tad enjoyable. Luckily the corn tortillas were good too take my mind off of the rice. Of everything it was the chicken enchiladas that threw my taste buds in the wrong direction. The red sauce just has a weird funk to it... almost like the taste of mild bitterness like a rubber band. I did see lots of people eating the beef dishes and they seemed to enjoy themselves. We went for a late lunch/early dinner last week and were very impressed. We started with the very refreshing Patron Margaritas and started feeling those before our Asada Fries made it out as our appetizer. Those were a great snack before our meal, along with our fresh chips and hot salsa. The Chile Relleno was good and I'm glad I went with the servers recommendation of doing half red and half green sauce on stop. Both sauces were great and made the meal. My wife and I stopped at the Black Bear Diner in Laveen for lunch, and as usual, it was packed. We saw this place on the north side of the same parking lot and decided to try it out. Let me just say, I can't wait to go back. The ambiance is very open and clean and the prices are very reasonable. I ordered the Spicy Chicken and my wife is Vegetarian and ordered the Vegetable Salad. You can see from my pictures how clean and fresh both meals were. The food here was like eating a freshly prepared homemade meal. The meals had excellent flavor and were not greasy. I am very picky about cooking and I have brined my own chicken. I don't know if they do, but the flavor was on par. It's great to know that there are places that still put effort like this into the food. I did not recognize many of the dish names so I was a little hesitant about eating here but the photos looked good and the reviews were good so we tried it out. First thing you should know is this is "Latin American" food. Not Mexican food. Latin American. We had Gordos pork and spicy chicken enchiladas. Be forewarned when they say spicy they mean spicy!! No joking around here. Having said all that the food was really delicious. The service was great. The restaurant is clean.
